When I see places such as this, I often wonder what people in the 1800s thought when travelling through with their covered wagons. Absolutely beautiful!
I wonder what myths, legends and fairytales the natives who inhabited these lands for hundreds of years would tell each other before it was colonialized.
Another wonderful job Christian. Both the visual and the voice over. I can't imagine what the scream of a mountain lion in my ear would do to me. Beautiful van, and you have to be one of the most minimalistic people I have ever known. You don't drag around a lot of extra junk like most of us. Love you and I can't wait to see the rebuilt interior of your van. Be safe. Love you. ❤🙏
That whole ending scene with the screeching and running around in the dark and panicked rush to get inside - I've had a few dates end like that ...😁😁😁😁
Gosh, the composing of the scenes - connection of pictures and music... always knock me off. True art and beauty... and the twist at the end is really scary. Thx for sharing
@@ChristianSchaffer My pleasure... I really love the song connected to the record-player... but I found out its not London Grammar - surely because of the (c)opyright issues? Would You mind sharing the artist and name of the song?
Etes-Vous une chat dans la nuit? Oh my!!! Quite scary when you hear a bump in the night. The van is quite wild with a push-button bed & turn table drawer - Wow! You are living the Van Life Christian - Merci encore!
My grandparents were from Lone Pine, my aunt and uncle lived right over that mound in Alabama Hills - I knew every place you were, did an Easter service right up from your parking spot near the Whitney Portal. my childhood summer visits brought back to life … thank you 🥲
My family is traveling through this area on the way to Yosemite next month. I remembered your videos on the Alabama Hills, which inspired me to see them in the first place. So I decided to watch the video again. As always, nice work.
I really appreciate how intelligent and articulate you are in your videos. Great photography, music and vibe from all your work. Keep it up. You know how to tell a story and you're a real talent.
You never cease to amaze, Christian!! I so love your honesty and humor. You are an example to me of someone who doesn’t take themself too seriously…yet do everything with excellence! As always, your films are impeccable, inspiring, and an absolute joy! I hope to head out in October, praying to be brave enough to pursue the solitude you have found so life-altering. Thank you for your vulnerability and joy! So grateful that whatever the creature was…it didn’t get you! YIKES! Also, can’t wait to see what changes, if any, you make to your van! I totally respect that you are protective of your friendships, as you should be…but as a mom and grandma, I am concerned about Mariah. Would you feel comfortable just saying if she is ok? I miss her videos, but more importantly, am concerned about her well-being. Thanks again for bringing beauty and joy into our lives! Christine
Mariah said in her last video that she was starting an organisation of some kind. (I don't remember what.) She expected to not do uploads for at least six months.
You have once again created visual magic with the help of beautiful landscapes. The van looks good, the bed is definitely the selling point from a comfort perspective. Thank God you are alright, that was a scary experience indeed.
Another beautiful episode, Christian. 🙏 Yes, that sounded like a fox shrieking. :-) A mountain lion has a deeper, more throaty, growly sound. And, you will feel their power. That was a gorgeous van! Yours is still my favorite. 💛
I really like the way you fade out the music and bring in the sound of the van. Its such a unique transition that adds an element of suspense that hooks you in to the rest of the video. Not sure if thats a signature thing you do but its a nice touch.
Christian, you had some really incredible video toward the end. You have developed a really good sense for capturing moments that are inspiring. Thank you.
SOOOOOO glad you didn't get eaten. Our son lives in Denver and when he goes running or climbing we pray that he doesn't have any animal attacks. So far he has managed to not step on the 2 rattlesnakes that he has encountered. Happy to see tyhat your van will soon be as GOOD AS NEW. Stay safe!
I absolutely love your videos…I get to see places that I will never be able to get to them….your photography is amazing….thank you so much for sharing 😊❤
I was mesmerized with your images and music choice and deeply wanting to be in the middle of nowhere on a rock looking at the stars. Until the mountain lion screeched at you, then I told myself Nope Nada No way! Bravo to you 😅
I cannot believe the shots you captured!! I rewound tonsee again and again saying aloud "cannot be real"!! Amazing and very glad you're ok!! Like the van but it seems to not fit you. Perhaps some of the things but need tonkeep the YOU in your van space. I am doing a build with lots of fun things but I am older, ehhem, and I justify my wants with that lol!! Perhaps a murphy bed will give you best if both without the height issue?? Another great one thanks!! Stay safe friend 😊
Wonderful images. You continue to amaze us with your eye for the light. You handled the possible mountain lion incident well, frightened but not panicked. Thanks for sharing your Alabama Hills time. We look forward to another chapter in your chronicle.
Even though ive subscribed to your channel, for 2 weeks i kept checkt YT thinking i missed the alert. Was happy to see a new video and I Agree as always with everyone else, always the best. Glad you're safe and yes i think that was a fox. They can still do damage. Be safe and cant wait to see the rebuild. ✌️
When I see a notification for your videos it’s like Christmas morning! I know there is a present waiting for me… I just don’t know what is inside. But I know I’m going to like it!
That sound sent chills down my spine. You handled that very well! Be loud, be big, and remove yourself. I tend to think it was a fox because lions hardly ever make it known they are there. That evening hour is the right time though for most predators. You better be carrying that bear spray on night hikes. It works on all animals. Can't wait to see our van after it is finished.
A little over a year ago I hiked through those mountains in the background and now here they are in one of your videos. Usually these beautiful places don't look as good on film as in person but you managed to do it.
You capture so perfectly what I miss the most about living on the road. I love the way you show the beauty of the landscape and sky and the light dancing all over. It truly is the most spectacular thing to see and it happens all around us every single day, but most of us miss it because we’re stuck inside in some office in some city somewhere. It’s so simple and so incredible. I get the same feelings of heartbreaking awe and peace and inspiration from watching your videos as I did when I could see it with my own eyes. Until I can get back on the road thank you for sharing 🙏🏻 And holy crap I almost peed my pants just listening to your mountain lion story. So scary 😳
I’m truly thankful for the time and effort you put into the videos. There’s countless people that you’ve inspired through your storytelling and cinematography. I’m one of them. Two months ago, my daily grind was in the ER back home in Alabama. Last week, I was in Alabama Hills. I’ve seen and photographed some of the most stunning landscapes on my journey. It’s something that I’ll never forget. Keep it up!
Wow! Scary as hell. Glad you're okay. Btw, so happy to have you back. Your background music seems quite a bit different from a lot of your videos that I've watched. I know when you're edit6, you are expressing what you are trying to convey. Not complaining, just making an observation. Looking forward to your next one.
Stunning photography as always, and the views of Mt Whitney are fantastic. I'm 62 and live in Ptown (East Bay) and came across a mountain lion about 10 yards away when was walking near my house on a bridge across a creek. Not my first rodeo w/ a mountain lion, but It was just past dusk and at first I didn't recognize it until it hunched down and growled/hissed/screamed. I tried to act big and make loud scary noises, but all that came out at first was the feeling of running and a whimper (i.e. all the wrong things)... took a few attempts before anything with "Meaning" came out of my mouth before it turned and finally ran the other way off the bridge. You should not be embarrassed about anything, and hate to tell you, but it will be a long time before you forget that sound. Take care and be safe.
Beautiful video, Christian! I hope your van gets rebuilt quickly - while that is happening, this 4x4 sprinter actually looks pretty amazing! Love the elevated bed feature. If you ever decide to head back to Switzerland and need a guide, I'd gladly show you all the hidden gems (that I'm still discovering myself for an upcoming video series). Stay happy. :)
Omg yes nothing like hearing a mountain lion call to poo and freak out! Such amazing beauty you always show us! Thank you (seems too small) for all the heart filling pleasure it gives. 💝💜
Hey Christian, what an adventure you are living haha, the feeling is that with each video we are venturing further and further to new places. You always bring this adventure in a beautiful, sensitive and real way, it's wonderful and inspiring to watch your videos. And damn, wow, I definitely wasn't expecting that ending. Until next time and stay safe ❤😊
That was scary but funny😅. The van is awesome and a 4X4 van is on my bucket list for the future. I love my DIY cargo van and being just two years old, I want to enjoy it longer. The Alabama Hills is a great area for lone time.
So glad to hear you're okay! You might think it's embarrassing to act like that when you're scared, but when you're out in the wild, sometimes we forget that we are just mammals too. When a wild animal rolls up on you, acting like a big scary wild animal too can literally save your life. Sounds like you scared it! I also have a mountain lion story. I used to live in Southern California in a small rural town and decided to go hiking in the wooded area at night because "it would be spooky" -_- Being alone in the woods at night is wayyy scarier than you think it is! I made it half way down the determined trail when I heard a very large animal give an annoyed, angry growl. I froze and decided just to back up slowly while scanning the forest line intensely with my flashlight. I eventually made it back off the trail in what seemed like forever checking behind myself every 5 seconds. When I got home, I did some googling and found that the growl I heard sounded EXACTLY like a mount lion! It was definitely a "who tf are you, go away" growl and not a "I'm going to eat you" growl. Lesson learned: Walking alone in the woods at night doesn't prove anything and isn't just a spooky activity, it's just stupid. Either bring friends and be prepared, or just don't go. Also, if a mountain lion or black bear ever rolls up on me, my plan is to act like a furious chimp/caveman and just yell and throw stuff around. Hopefully they'll think i'm too much trouble for a meal XD
So scary! Honestly, I’ve spent a lot of time alone in the woods at night. Usually because of poor planning, but I’ve managed to survive well enough. Imagine telling a fellow human from 1000 years ago that we are now incapable of being outside alone at night. Kind of embarrassing tbh 😅
@@ChristianSchaffer being scared, no matter where nowadays, is a bit where it has boiled down to for humanity...sadly. At least you took the right aproach here... :)

Greetings from Salt Lake City, Utah I've made it back to Utah to deal with some military transfer stuff, and I'm going back east on Sunday. Another beautiful video. Love the way you capture the feel of the environment with your beautiful photography and visual storytelling. The Mountain Lion encounter sounds really scary, although I smiled to myself at you throwing your arms wide and hissing. I met a Bobcat carrying a freshly killed rat on the trail while hiking yesterday and did EXACTLY the same thing. Amazing what your survival instincts make you do. I felt like a bit of an idiot afterwards, but now I feel totally validated! Although a Bobcat is way less scary than a Mountain Lion, and unlikely to attack.

Hands down the best eye of ALL travel UA-camrs for picture composition, lighting, and the right filming perspective! Every video is a feast for the eyes. And the ending of this one, with the mountain lion or bobcat screech and the sparse text on black background, was very well done.
You are just one remarkable woman who has given me so much confidence to be a 70 year old living off grid! Thank you and God bless you 🙏
I have considered the same. Is it difficult? Any tips etc?
Please be careful

Your video just popped up. I love to read what other people say in the comments. Like I said many times your video quality and what you shoot is head a shoulders above the other people i follow. if was ever doing a documentary of sights to see I would want you to shoot it. Amazing work.
Yes that was a mountain lion I've heard that sound before and seen their tracks in the snow on hikes. Be safe christian!
Wow! I am glad you are ok!
was quite the evening 😅
Thank you for being there!!!
I just left mammoth lakes and then went to South Lake Tahoe. So beautiful and so many bears! I love living in California. Great photographing.
Beautiful views and beautiful van ❤
Hello from SoCal! Looks like You've got some colors going on. Not sure what you're doing but I love the new feeling! it's like mixing in a little reality with some dreamy :) OMG some of those photos took my breath away like the one with the rainbow. 🌈 the best parts are sometimes scary as long as we get to live to tell those stories. Glad you're safe 🙏
☺️🙌🏻
coincidentally I played this tune watching your breath taking views - suits really well too! :) Ghost Riders in the Sky - Original - Stan Jones
Glad you're ok.
Here kitty, kitty, kitty?! Cheers Christian!!

I really love the video and the edit is so perfect! Van life is Love ❤️
That was fun. Thanks for tossing up such great videos. It's funny how you kind of feel like a pal, sharing your adventures. Great stuff every time, Christian. Nice to see you doing well. Catch you down the line!
No matter where you film, I always think ‘Wow! It is so beautiful there!’ You are a phenomenal photographer - you bring out the beauty everywhere you travel. 😊
Agreed! 🙃
Hands down the best eye of ALL travel UA-camrs for picture composition, lighting, and the right filming perspective! Every video is a feast for the eyes. And the ending of this one, with the mountain lion or bobcat screech and the sparse text on black background, was very well done.
For sure
oh my gosh, thank you Sarah 🥲🤍🙏🏻
