- Washington is the last place I called home before moving into my SUV full-time, and it was on these mountain trails and forest roads that I fell in love with living out of my vehicle and backpacking every other night until the rain or snow forced me south to warmer weather. Lately, I’ve been based around Mount Baker. Camping, hiking, and getting lost on mountain trails. If you’ve ever wondered what the Washington backcountry is like, here’s a glimpse into that world. Hey :) I’m Christian Schaffer, and I’ve lived on the road full-time since May 2018. This journey began in 2013 when I left the corporate world to build my career as an outdoor adventure & travel photographer. As a semi-minimalist, I eventually decided to donate/sell most of my belongings and move into my 4x4 Nissan Xterra. After 14 months of SUV living and falling madly in love with the open road - I bought a van and hired a team to build it out. Van life enables me to experience and document the beauty of our natural world on a whole new level, all while having my home and office nearby. My hope is that by sharing my own personal highs and lows along this (sometimes) wild journey, you might be inspired to hit the road or spend more time outdoors. Maybe one day I'll see you out on that open road 🚐

I agree, it's about presenting what you see in front of you in an artistic way. I mean I'm no pro, but there are UA-camrs out there that just push record no edits and upload and still get thousands and thousands of subscribers, but to me it's all about the creating of the content the story telling. This is why when I edit my videos! I try to portray the story that suits best of the situation (footage) that I am putting out in top the world.

I LOVE all your videos Christian! I'm a full-time freelance photographer based in London. And I REALLY want to go off-grid. @@ChristianSchaffer Van life would be amazing around here. Very rainy but all green and beautiful nature! Cornwall is incredible, I've been there once to surf. Maybe one day you end up exploring the UK, who knows. :D But all the places you show in your videos are so breathtaking! They make me wanna go! Looking forward to you next videos. :)

Bellingham and Glacier were my home for 25 years. The state left me behind and now I call Western Montana home. I will always have my old friends and memories though. That trail out Shuksan Arm is something I did every day every Winter. It is magical any season you go.

Sept’s always a favorite time for hiking, in fact we just returned from the Sierra! But with the change of seasons comes new opportunities to venture out to the desert and enjoy camping & astrophotography in dark skies. Love your videos keep ‘em coming!

Another great one, September is my favorite month too. I live next to Laguna Beach. The crowds are gone, the water finally warms up, and the sunsets get more interesting. I'd like to retire around Mt Baker as PNW is my favorite and Mt Baker seems like a good fit.
