The GM training videos that we watch today are still set up and spoken exactly the same as it was when this was made. If it wasn't for older looking pictures You would think this video was made last week. I guess it's something works good there's no need to change it LOL
Way back they did a three speed tandem..Never understood for sure how it worked but I think on axle was in low, the other in high and the power divider balanced it out to an intermediate ratio. Was very hard on the power divider.
Awesome! I sometimes grind my GM T170 rear because I didn't understand how these things work. Now I get it!

I just bought a 2-speed tandem setup for my kenworth
I just priced a Freightliner truck spec'ed with a 2 speed axle for a customer. They are still available

That looks similar in operation to a 4wd transfer case with 4hi and 4 lo
they do the same thing but with different ratios...
