I thought i got a bit lucky with the overclocking too, but it just doesent seem to tbe the case with this litle APU. Personally for me its kicked Intel out of the low end of the segment, as id much rather be on AM4 over 1151, especially if we're taking Pentium G4560. Still all value is lost when it comes to DDR4 Prices. Very nice review of the chip.

Budget-Builds Official true, that is why lga 1155 will be my favorite platform, i got a z77 motheeboard for just 70$ and it is very easy to find them at that price and the i5 3570k you can find it for as little as 80$ and not to mention i picked up a kit of 4x4gb ddr3 1600mhz for just 40$. It is a great chip but curently nothing will beat the 1155 platform

This is the cpu that lets Walmart sell pc's for $400 including monitor, keyboard and mouse. Or less.
When all you need is UA-cam/email/Facebook so Grandma can see pictures of the grandbabies, this type of thing is perfect.
Watching cat videos doesn't take a lot of power. This type of system lets people have brand new hardware, that is quiet and cheap to buy and run, on a modern OS that is decently secure.
I'd call it a win. We sometimes forget that for a VERY large percentage of "pc users', it's just an appliance.
And there's nothing wrong with that.

agreed, but I'd also say this a good PC build for giving to your kid as well as they can game at 720p - 1080p(depending on the game), and when paired with an OS like Xubuntu that uses less resources where the AMD open source drivers are very well supported in the latest kernel updates you can squeak out bit more performance than on Windows 10, while also not worrying about all the Windows BS.

This is going to be a budget champion for all the basic PC's sold in stores.
For some people the additional $45 for the 2200G just isn't feasible....
I know in markets in Russia and Turkey and Poland and Romania the price difference + higher taxes on the 2200G will make the 200GE a real gem for many.
A video should be done comparing this CPU with the previous budget king Athlon 860k! I built quite a few PC's using that chip and people used them for gaming for the past 4 or so years!

The 200GE in my cupboard reminds me of how hard it tried to be as good as an old quad while running at 3.8/3.9GHz.
While lightly loaded this CPU only used 8W.
It ran near silent as an HTPC.
The only thing it lacked was the snappiness of more, faster cores.

  • @lunchie80
    @lunchie80 5 років тому +1

I have 3 ryzen/athlon(zen based) systems running and the 200ge is a decent little chip. As mentioned, it has its uses(not every PC sold is to play CS GO) and mine is in my HTPC. I originally used a 2200g for the HTPC but it never needed even THAT much power. The 2200g is now my file server CPU and I have a R5 2600 in my main PC. All excellent value. The 200ge has been running 24/7 now for a few weeks. As it has an m.2 drive the whole system feels as fast as anything else for 1080p playback, youtube etc.
The 200ge happily plays 4k encodes and 4k youtube content no problem and generates very little heat doing it. Great for the money and the built in graphics/4k support is brilliant. Mine is in a Jonsbo U1 with a Wraith Prism RGB cooler(for looks) and it never hits 50C. The ONLY time you notice the lack of horsepower is if several processes happen together but that is rare and doesn't last long.

Truth be told, 2 cores are really not enough anymore, just get a 4C it’s a huge improvement unless you’re running a GT1030 in which case then you should probably just get a 2200G or a 2400G with the APU, not saying this is useless as I will be buying one for my grandfather who is still using a Pentium 4 and a 7800 GT

Great straight to the point review on this. I am curious what the 220ge and 240ge bring. I'm personally thinking it will be just some increased clockspeeds as the bin more of these from other silicon. That would likely do decent leap in performance though especially when later paired with dedicated. May still see a mix too though where its like the A6 vs A12 apu days and maybe the 240ge would bring a vega 5or6 onboard which would really keep the budget market aggressively tuned. Time will tell, cheers though!

7 days ago I bought 2600x because I believed it to be 20% faster than 2600.
I went back to store,to get coin back if possible(I did not open the box at any point).
However it was not possible for that.
2600 wasn't as cheaper enough as it should have been so there was little to no sense to replace my 2600X for 2600.
I briefly considered 2400G,but since 2200G has gameswise near identical performance,I figured I'll take it and 3TB or 4TB HDD.
But for reasons,I took this Athlon instead and G.Skill Aegis 16gigs( 2x8gigs Dual Channel)@3000Mhz instead.
Oh and 10 000mAh Xiaomi MI powerbank.
In 7 - 13 months time(each month or 2 I will buy something, some other component) and at it to a pile.
I've seen it coupled with GTX1050Ti and works wonders in some cases.
Well I plan to couple it with GTX1070 or 1070Ti.
It will be a temporary solution to a problem.
A problem called:"Unable to buy upermidrange GPU and 2700x at the same time".
However,by the time I'll have a coin enough to replace 200GE,2700X will likely become a new best buy, likely in similar price category as 2600 or even 2200G is today because 3xxx Raizen or maybe even 4xxx will be new kings of AMD offer.
Come to thing of it maybe some new Ryzen 3200 or 4200 will destroy 2700x for the price of today's 2200G.

This cpu might be great for a PFsense router build if you want cheaper hardware but are afraid of all the unpatched cpu vulnerabilities that are likely to be found on older used office PCs for a system that is going to be the main line of defense for your network.
Built in APU means you can save that top PCIe slot for a beefy multi-port network card.

Definitely would've been nice to see this come out earlier. I have a hard time seeing me buying this for anyone other than a grandma just using the internet because just a little more money gets you quite a bit more performance with the 2200G, but it's still a great option just because of those grandmas out there. The only problem is that the only person I can personally think of getting something like this for would prefer a laptop so she can watch her Netflix around the house, so this doesn't help.

I did some simulations of 2 cores 4 threads on a ryzen 2400g clocked at 3.3, and it handles up to about a RX560 on the AMD side before it bottlenecks a little bit on a 570, and is pointless on a 580

I will be watching for this cpu and mobo very closely next month as Black Friday and Cyber Monday come closer. I would like to see the 200GE vs.2200G vs G5400 or G5600 paired with a GPU, as I am looking to upgrade to some newer hardware by next summer and wanted to see what would make the best place holder cpu without giving up performance with a card like the 1060 6GB or RX 580 8GB. I know the Intel G5600 won't bottleneck the 1060 or RX 580, but would like to see if the 200GE does. If it can handle one of those cards I think it will make a great place holder cpu for me. Thanks man.

Going on a whim here that your best bet is probably the 2200G. Especially if you're going to use it as a placeholder cpu while you save up for a card. You'd still be able to play games with a 2200G with fairly decent performance.

    • @notatechguy1209
      @notatechguy1209 5 років тому

@Philis Goodman, thanks for the input but I already have a GPU for now. I know the 2200G is the best of all the CPU's I mentioned but do not want to spend $100+ on a placeholder CPU. I plan on upgrading to a 6 or 8 core CPU by next summer. I wasn't looking to use intergraded graphics that's why I wanted to see it tested with GPU's at my price range. I expect for the Intel G series to be close to MSRP by Black Friday or Cyber Monday and $55 to $75 bucks is all I would ever spend on something I'm going to be upgrading in 6 to 8 months. If I get the 2200G I might as well save up the extra $50 for a Ryzen 1600 or 2600. When all said and done I plan on my build being a RX 580 8GB and a Ryzen 1600 level build. Thanks for the feedback.

@Roikhan thanks for the info. I'm almost sure I'm going to go with the 200GE. I just want to see it tested with a GPU so I can see how much performance I'll be giving up until I upgrade. If it's anything close to the G4560 I know I'll be fine. I'm hoping it will be within 5 to 8% of the G4560 performance.

This processor has AVX instructions, giving you 24% more performance in some cases with respect to the G4560 / G5400. The Pentium G5400 does not have it either.
YOU CAN MAKE OVERCLOCKING, with some plates of MSI and ASrock (I do not know if with others too). So it would be better to buy the 200G and upload it to 3.9Ghz, being better than intel i7-3770 in mono-core.
In the Monte Carlo Excel 2016 test it is 20% slower than a Pentium G4560, so if it is for very heavy calculation tasks it is better to have a G5400, much better a Ryzen 3 1200 and much better an R3 2200G.
