Rabbi Tovia Singer Debunks Christian Claim that Isaiah Prophecy of Virgin Birth is a 'Dual Prophecy'

  • In this powerful Q & A session before a live Texas audience, Rabbi Tovia Singer illustrates how Matthew mistranslated Isaiah 7:14 and completely ripped this passage out of context. As it turns out, Missionaries attempt to explain away this stunning problem of Matthew’s complete indifference to the biblical context of Isaiah 7:14 by claiming that Isaiah’s words were fulfilled in a “dual prophecy.” Rabbi Singer utterly discredits this argument in this intriguing live presentation.

I was just reading in Bart Ehrman's book JESUS, INTERRUPTED that the OT prophecy in Matthew was misappropriated. Then the idea od3 dual prophecy, but this provides an answer I had not thought of. This is a lot to think about after 30 years a Christian.

Sorry not making one bit of sense...there are over 194 contradictions in the N.T. just look at other sources. Simpletoremember online, TorahAnytime, Be'Ezrat Hashem, look up in Chumash...G-d never changes...the foundation of the Torah is truth and if anyone comes along and claims that it has a new testament it must not have any errors contrary to the Torah...Please investigate further.. Keep questioning and praying the G-d leads you to understand correctly my friend...I appreciate your passion, but unfortunately I know that the N.T. is false, fake, nonsense. G-d does require sacrifices of a human being. That is idolatry and paganism...:)

Debra Hebb, you state "G-d does require sacrifices of a human being." My response, while what you stated here is indeed true I do believe you meant to state that God does not require a human sacrifice. Actually you inadvertently made a profound statement here. For God indeed wants humans to sacrifice themselves. Not in the manner of a crucifixion but rather in a manner of a broken spirit and heart. As Psalm 51 states... "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; O God, You will not despise a broken and crushed heart." (Psalm 51:19) P.S. In Christian Bibles it may be verse 18.

Maryam Merowing, how is she deceived? After all, the jesus story is obviously false. It contradicts Torah over and over. It even contradicts itself. The best proof the new test is a lie is the new test itself. As I told somebody who sent me the new test to read, "if I had been a Christian prior to reading the new test I would no longer be so after having read it". I have never ever read a single book in all my life with so many unresolvable contradictions. The narrative of his birth, the narrative of his death, the narrative of his supposed resurrection, the narrative of his lineage (which isn't even his lineage if you believe the virgin birth story, which in fact is thus another self contradiction of the new test) are all contradictory. & that's just the starters.

@@d.h.3395 What I don't understand is some jews say God doesnt change. Muslims too actually say this. But Jews sometimes bring this up when Muslims say the Law of Muhammad abrogates (parts of) OT law. But how can you protest against God abrogaging some of his laws, when we can also see this in the OT narrative. For example, many of the Mosaic laws werent binding yet before Moses obviously. So God didn't ordain all of them on Noah or Abraham, but he decided to ordain them later. So why can't he do this again then? If He wants to ordain a new law on Muhammad then why can't He do this per se? Obviously not any central doctrine or law is changed (still One God etc. No theft no adultery, no murder and so on) but he may change some laws.

It says they shall call his shemaw שְׁמ֖וֹ immanu el. That’s his renown, infamy, or what he is known for own by. Genesis 11 and Genesis 6 use the same variation of the word to mean renown. So God among men was more of an appellation than a name in this context.

You know that in times of war when Judah was being threatened, it was common for the prophet to remind the king that it had been prophesied that a king would come from David’s line… it was reassurance that God would fulfill his promise to bring forth messiah from his line. It says in the beginning of chp 7 that Judah was shaken like a tree bends in the wind. They were terrified. So how does this verse not apply contextually?

Tovia, could you please give your references as to what you spoke of in your video concerning the northern kingdom (house of Israel) being interchangeable with the southern kingdom (house of Judah)? I have searched all through scripture and have yet to see that there is a distinct difference between the two houses. I have seen some of your other videos but you always elude to both houses being that of the Jews. I am trying to understand where your references are coming from, please, I have been pulling at the skirt of many Jews as of lately only to be ignored.

    • @john8048

      Tovia Singer
Forgive me if I misunderstood what you said in this video about them being interchangeable. I am at work so when I get off in a few hours I'll listen to it again, but it was at the beginning of this video when you were speaking of the northern and southern kingdom and showed your drawing of the land. Again, if that is not what you meant by interchangeable, I apologise.
I have heard you speak in some other videos and have heard you referencing that the lost 10 tribes are coming around now. I will go to the video where I hear you refer to the northern kingdom, 10 lost tribes, as Jews. Is it still your belief that all Israelites are Jews?
I was having a discussion, for edification, on this issue with another brother and he sent me to all you links and videos. I am still searching for the references in scripture that make it clear that all Israelites are Jews. From my studies and understanding I thought all Jews came from the tribe of Judah, or the southern kingdom, is this correct?
In reference to the subject of this video I see exactly what you are talking about with the virgin birth. When I read all of Isaiah, 5 times, those were many of the highlighted verses I questioned too. When read in context it is exactly as you say and the outcome I came up with as well.
For the record, I was born and baptized into the Catholic faith, later went over to the Christian side of the faith, now with my deeper studies I consider myself an adopted child of Israel. I feel compelled to study daily for hours now, and since giving my life back to the Most High, amazing things have been happening in my life. I have been led to study about all religions and the different sects that each have. I have now been led to understand the Tanahk from a Jewish perspective. I wish to serve YHWH, and learn more of this beautiful path to this kingdom He has for those of us who patiently await. I do have more questions, but will wait for your answers to ones I posed in this reply. Shalom

Actually, the word הרה is acting as an adjective here describing the young woman as a “a pregnant young woman”. If it was a verb in the perfect tense, it would have been הרתה. Still though, it refers to the woman being pregnant at that time, not at a future time 😎

The Greeks thought that the messages in their allegories were more important than fact.
The Greeks were in awe of the concept of monotheism, but since they had militarily, temporarily conquered Israel (and therefore did not feel beholden to gaining from the wisdom of those whom it temporarily conquered), and were unable to mature spiritually to fully transcend polytheism, they tried to take baby steps, and graft a Greek, polytheistic story upon Jewish monotheism.
Obviously, the two are mutually exclusive.
There is, however, considerable value in trying to lead pagans into the general concept of the Creator of this universe being its Sovereign. There is also significant value in teaching polytheists that their insistence on "might makes right" is exactly what is WRONG in a civilized world. The fact that the Greek empire, the Roman empire, and all others who attempted to destroy the Jewish people, via that philosophy, were smashed, by The Sovereign, should indicate how ridiculous the immoral discharge of power (usually be highly misguided, unaccountable men) is, in the metaphorical eyes of The Sovereign (The Living And Eternal King).
If Greece, Rome, etc. had disavowed Might Makes Right, and treated The Jewish people/culture with respect, then they would have grown spiritually, and prospered, and discharged their temporary power more responsibly, then history would have been different, and humankind would have been so elevated that there would have been no need for any story beyond humans living up to their fullest potentials, giving The Sovereign their utmost respect, treating their fellow as they wished to be treated, and giving to the world hard work, love, mercy, and kindness.

First of all I wish to present important verses from Hebrew Scripture that reveal coming promised Messiah!
What is the really reason that He should be send to people ?
Isaiah is one of the most well-known prophets in the Bible for his prediction of the coming of the Messiah, who would redeem His people from their sins.
I am the Good Shepherd." (John 10:11)
"I am the resurrection, and the life." (John 11:25.) In His arraignment before Caiaphas, He was asked, "Art thou the Christ (Messiah), the Son of the Blessed?" He answered, "I am." (Mark 14:61, 62.) Jesus declared His Messiahship by direct testimony.
Turning Water Into Wine (John 2:1-12) ...
    Healing the Nobleman's Son (John 4:46-54) ...
Healing the Man at the Pool (John 5:1-11) ...
    Feeding of the 5,000 (John 6:1-15) ...
Walking on Water (John 6:16-21) ...
Healing a Man Born Blind (John 9:1-12) ...
    Resurrecting Lazarus (John 11)
Through Jesus's crucifixion and resurrection, Christians believe that God offers humans salvation and eternal life, with Jesus's death atoning for all sin, thus making humanity right with God.
Isaiah, a great prophet of the Old Testament, (Hebrews) announced the coming birth of the Messiah. “The Lord himself shall give you a sign,” he declared. “Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14).
Tovia Singer make our God a liar !
This deceiver, the false teacher named Messiah a FALSE PROPHET !
Never in human history any false prophet
were able to heal the sick, rise dead persons to life, feed thousands of people with 2 fish and a few loafs of bread.
Any false prophet did not do any good but deceive themselves and others saying lies and oppress people.
Why Jews avoid Isaiah 53? This is Hebrew's prophet who prophesied destruction from Almighty and desolation of the land for wickedness and active rejection of His law!
    And it was fulfilled !!!
Isaiah 53:4-6 "Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.5 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned-every one-to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him
    the iniquity of us all".
Then Deuteronomy 18:18-19 came to pass and we learn from Jewish Christ's disciples the eyes witnesses: Acts 3:17-26 "But what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ would suffer, he thus fulfilled. 19 Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, 20 that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, 21 whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago. 22 Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brothers. You shall listen to him in whatever he tells you. 23 And it shall be that every soul who does not listen to that prophet shall be destroyed from the people.’ 24 And all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those who came after him, also proclaimed these days. 25 You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed.’ 26 God, having raised up his servant, sent him to you first, to bless you by turning every one of you from your wickedness.”
Deuteronomy 18:18-19 "I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers. And I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him. 19 And whoever will not listen to my words that he shall speak in my name, I myself will require it of him".
As Yeshua Hamashia changed the life of Paul (before named Saul) from persecutor of Jesus' disciples into follower of Jesus Christ and become an apostol of Jesus, it happen to many people whose life was chenged from evil to good, they were born again from Spirit and water according to Jesus' calling!
John 3:1-8 "Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.” 3 Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4 Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?” 5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
Acts 10:34-43 "So Peter opened his mouth and said: “Truly I understand that God shows no partiality, 35 but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. 36 As for the word that he sent to Israel, preaching good news of peace through Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all), 37 you yourselves know what happened throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism that John proclaimed: 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. 39 And we are witnesses of all that he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree, 40 but God raised him on the third day and made him to appear, 41 not to all the people but to us who had been chosen by God as witnesses, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42 And he commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one appointed by God to be judge of the living and the dead. 43 To him all the prophets bear witness that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”

Rabbi Tovia Singer - As a staunch believer in Christianity, a friend introduced me to your teachings in hopes that we might go a bit deeper into things. I listened to your analysis of Isaiah 7:14 (Matthew 1:23). Fully agree with your point (KJV mistranslation of virgin), but think you are totally missing the point. Author of Matthew is indeed focused on the fact that a young woman was impregnated. Said author is also stating the woman was a virgin, but this is confirmed via many other text outside of Isaiah 7:14. Because of your Hebrew background, you will be able to see many of the hidden secrets that New Testament scripture taps into when it ties certain passages to the Old Testament.
Aside: I only read the KJV, not because of its accurate translation (it is not accurate), but because of the Strong's Concordance, which allows me to engage with you in the Hebrew/Aramaic. The Hebrew language is chock full of secrets, so I thank God that he preserved the manuscript. I'd love to chat more with you about Isaiah 7:14, Mathew 1:24 and other Christianity concepts. Not talking about most of the Christianity 101 theology that you refute (I don't believe most of that either), but the much deeper spiritual truth that is not tied to the literal reading of the text.
Regarding the virgin birth... Jesus (his human soul) is in fact the "virgin woman" that gave birth to the son of God. Mary is simplify a metaphor for what is happening in the Spirit. Said another way, Bible was not written to provide a history book, but the historical stories are being used to reveal timeless (eternal) ideological concepts about the power of love and its role in the evolution of humanity.

I believe it's a given that Jesus' virgin birth story originates in the New Testament as Matthew precisely quotes Isaiah 7:14 to make his case. The rabbi (rabbi Tovia) is correct to criticize the author of Matthew for his false claim about Isaiah 7:14.
I find it interesting that the Quran mostly borrows the Luke virgin birth story and not the Matthew one for this allows Muslims to not need to justify Isaiah 7:14 as being a virgin birth prophecy (Luke never quotes Isaiah 7:14) to defend the Quran.
However, I wounder where Luke got his virgin birth story because I can't tell. I know that Matthew was written before Luke but I'm not sure if one can make the case that Luke got his virgin birth story from Matthew. He most likely got it from some oral community. If so, Luke most likely knew he was making lies up in his report of the "good" news.

He's the son of Ahaz, king of Judah. But he hasn't been named Immanuel, but Ezechias (or Hezekiah). The name of his mother, the young woman mistranslated into "virgin", is Abi. They're mentioned in the 2nd book of the kings, chapter 18.
What's the story behind: There was the hope that, once the newborn would become adult and inherit the throne of the kingdom, he would be able to set them free from Assyrian's domination. This expectation was on a baby that wasn't even born yet, since Abi was still expectant.
This was the meaning of Isaiah 7:14. Many scholars are working on this topic.
The prophecy isn't even a prophecy, because the three words in Hebrew say "young woman - pregnant - parturient/about to give birth"

Nevertheless, this unborn child that will be Mighty God, Prince of Peace...it doesn't sound like a king that I've read about in 1/2 Kings or 1/2 chronicles. I know it may sound like a prophecy and concerning future facts, but that's attributable to a mistranslation.
The original hebrew scriptures, in Isaiah 7:14 says, literally:
      "almah harah yoledet".
      - Almah = young woman (pay attention, not "virgin" because that would be "betulah")
      - Harah = adjective --> "pregnant" (pay attention, not future verb "will conceive" but "already pregnant")
      - Yoledet = participle --> "is about to give birth"
That passage says that there is a young woman who's pregnant and she's going to deliver the baby soon. The baby, heir to the throne, brings the hope that he will become a just king.
      Where are the mistranslations?
      - In the greek language, Almah (young woman) is translated as "Parthenos", also Betulah (virgin) is translated as "Parthenos". Greek language makes no distinction. Therefore once the bible had been translated into Latin, the error has been dragged into future sub-trasnslations (modern languages).
      - Harah: out of all the times harah appears in the bible, the only time it's translated with a future tense verb is Isaiah 7:14, all the other times convey the meaning of some woman "already pregnant".
The hebrew tanakh, however, never mentioned any prophecy. The passage says it was at the time of Ahaz. It was contemporary.
      Don't you think?

would have simply said the people who wrote the new book(s) used the older book , mistakenly , not mistakenly , as proof of divinity ,, in their time
the person in question was allegedly known to be wise from an early age & later went into full verbal conflict with 2 big kings at that time , Herod & " the king of Rome ,, both were eventually taken down ,, to answer the question
yet , without using that as unflappable proof , think divinity on our planet is divided , not historically as we think ,, but divided between northern divinity ,, those north of the equator & divinity of people from south of the equator ,
those from the north have way too many issues on divinity itself ,, then argue strongly over identification, of any issue, particularly if bestowed upon an individual human being ,,
it means northern people have been basically for ever in fixed battles over the same divine story , many are programed to never stop ,, even if they win ,
the over all paradox of the north in a wide historical picture ,, is they can never accept divinity , to identify it , particularly if divinity manifested it self to be an object / human being ,, even a word,, unless it refers to themselves alone ,,
a good example ,, contradiction for people in the north is often the means to find proof of an argument for their own divinity ,, & against other groups
Therefore, the north always needs an ultimate contradiction ,, to make way for an ultimate proof ,, when at the end of they day ,, they all accept some form of divinity ,,, but do not want the other guy to win ; D , these are the ways of those of the north ,,
we should all become Buddhist guys ;D ,, because it seems they are never going to stop arguing in the north over the same basic story, our version of trying to understand divinity in the north is not great ,, if it ,was we would not be in this mess ,
Many say we need a definitive "once & for all" ultimate chapter on divinity to end all the doubt , maybe a discovery ? ,, ? ancient artifact(s) ? ,, however, the finger at the moment still points strongly towards "contradiction" as being the strongest ( typical ) element towards possibly ending the historical arguments of the north,,,

Since Genesis Adam begat Seth, Seth begat Enos(h), etc. Who is this Baby Daddy? It is not Isaiah because Isaiah went to his wife wink wink and she got pregnant and that baby was named Maher Shalal Hash Baz.
Immanu El [God with us] ≠ Maher Shalal Hash Baz [quickly to plunder]
furthermore atonement can only be made with blood and it is prophesied:
Numbers 35:33 So you shall not pollute the land where you are; for blood defiles the land, and no atonement can be made for the land, for the blood that is shed on it, ➡except by the blood of him who shed it.

Howdy... :-) Here is my response to your last post in the other thread... Antonio Pall, you state "me me but isaiah said that damascus is to be utterly destroyed, not to be inhabited again." My response, If I had not done some research I would have been baffled by your above comment as when I read the verse in Isaiah it said no such thing. Here is what the Book of Isaiah says "1. The harsh prophecy concerning Damascus; Behold Damascus shall be removed from [being] a city, and it shall be depth of ruins. 2. The cities of Aroer shall be abandoned; for the flocks shall they be, and they shall lie undisturbed." (end quote) However I also did some research and what I found is that for some reason the Christian translation of these verses are a bit different. In my research I found a possible reason for this variation. They changed the word "Aroer" (which is a grouping of cities mentioned in Scripture) to "forever". The theory I saw presented for this mistanslation was that the letter raish and the letter dalet in the Hebrew language have a similar appearance. I suggest you look here to see what I mean. Look at the third line to the right. You will see both the resh and daleth next to each other. www.google.com/search?q=Hebrew+letter+raish&rls=com.microsoft:en-US:IE-Address&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiNg7LbnaXZAhVrpVkKHWujBI8QsAQIMg&biw=1269&bih=606 Anyway, the point is if you switch them, you end up with aday ad instead of uh'ray Aroer." "Adai ad" means forever. Thus the source for the mistranslation. The problem with this is that even if the dalet was the correct way to word it, you end up with an extra ad that simply doesn't fit. What you end up with is "adai ad ad." This makes no sense grammatically. You will never find such a phrase in the Hebrew language. In addition to the above problem mentioned, there is an additional problem in that the words would actually not truly read as "adai ad ad". Rather since there is no separation between the two "ad's" there, the words would actually read as aday adad". & there is in fact no such Hebrew word "adad". Antonio Pall, you state "But yes, i am wondering about the whole israel syria thing now. It may set prophecies in motion, no?" My response, from my perspective considering that Isaiah 17 as I explained has already occurred during the time of King Ahaz, I am not sure which prophecies you're referring to. If you know of other one's, please refer me to them. Antonio Pall, you state "And i can't find your comment about Ariel. Maybe we should get off this long thread. Is this the post on Ariel you could not find?.... Antonio Pall, you state "me me isaiah 29 says Ariel, Ariel, the city in which David dwelt. In king james version, which is the only one i read, says Jerusalem was the lioness of God. I know that boys are named that too, but my wife thought it proper to name her that." My response, thank you for the source. I deeply appreciate it. I looked it up along with Rashi's commentary on the verse. Here is what I found in Rashi... Woe, Ariel: Jonathan renders: Altar of the Lord. Ezekiel, too, called it that, as it is said (43:16): “And the altar (וְהָאֲרִיאֵל) twelve [cubits] in length,” [because of the heavenly fire that lay like a lion atop the altar, as we learned in Tractate Yoma (21b)]. Our Sages, however, explained it in reference to the heichal (the Temple proper), which was narrow from the rear and wide in the front." Based on this it seems that it is not really the city of Jerusalem which is referred to as Ariel. (though of course the Temple (and Altar) are located within the confines of the city) Antonio Pall, you state "My wife is black btw and she was told by doctors that she could not have children. We got married in a romanian orthodox church and kids kept coming." My response, I am very happy for you. Yes, it is one more lesson that teaches us that doctors may know some things but they do not have the gift of bestowing children. God reserved that capability for Himself. Antonio Pall, you state "Will u share your info too?" My response, God willing. Well, my name is Shmuel Ende. I am an Orthodox Jew. (I assume you already know this) I was educated in a Yeshiva. (Jewish parochial school whose curriculum mainly consists of Jewish Biblical studies) I still attend Yeshiva though I am currently working as well. I work with kids with special needs. I am married but am still awaiting my first child. God willing He will grant that sooner rather than later :-) I live in New York city where I was born. My parents were born here too. I also lived in Israel for a total of 7 years though not consecutive. (I believe I already told you about that) What else would you like to know? Antonio Pall, you state "But as far as your rabbis, u r right, i don't know much. Only that they tried hard to dismiss Jesus. I heard of Maimonides and didn't like what he said. And also the Talmud." My response, without actually focusing on what the Sages of Israel said regarding him I would like to point out that if one looks at the writings of the Sages including Rambam (Maimonides) you will find that in the overall jesus is not really talked about much. Consider the following, even if the jesus in the Talmud and the one in the new test are the same, you will find that while the Talmud consists of literally thousands of pages what is said about jesus amounts to less than half of one page. (and that's assuming that they are the same person) As far as Rambam is concerned, he does indeed have sharp words for jesus, but there too out of a few hundred pages of his combined works, it amounts to one paragraph which speaks of jesus. Interestingly enough he also has something positive to say there for Christians in that even though they have it wrong in regard to jesus, at least the concept of a messiah is something that is no longer foreign. Thus when the true Messiah comes they will more easily acknowledge the true Messiah. The only point I am seeking to make here is that one should not mistake what they said to be a focus of theirs trying hard to dismiss jesus. Half a page and one paragraph I am sure you would not think approaches anywhere close to trying hard. :-) Btw... on a side note, if one actually studies the main Talmudic passage which references jesus, one will find that the focus of the passage was not really on jesus at all. Rather the Talmud attempts to use his situation as an example of how the Torah commands Israel to deal with the laws of enticement stated therein. Antonio Pall, you state "I would also like to discuss non biblical matters, like your thoughts on today's Israel, Syria. Will Damascus be destroyed like Isaiah said?" My response, anything and everything is open for discussion. But I would like to point out that from a Jewish perspective, EVERYTHING is Biblical. Meaning, God runs the world and we also believe that all knowledge is contained within the Torah. As far as the state of Israel is concerned I have mixed feelings on the issue. I would like to God willing deal with this in a continuation post...

    • @meme-bd5hk

& here is the continuation post of the Ariel post in case you did not see this post as well. (I assume you did see this post since you did make a follow-up post about Isaiah 17)... Antonio Pall, you state "I would also like to discuss non biblical matters, like your thoughts on today's Israel, Syria. Will Damascus be destroyed like Isaiah said?" My response, I believe the timeframe of when we Jews took over sovereignty on the land was wrongly timed. I believe the land belongs to the Jewish people as promised by God. But at the same time I also believe we were not authorized by God to take over the land till the Messiah comes. But I also look at practicalities which I believe we cannot ignore. At the moment Israel is surrounded by people who seek to murder the Jewish people within. We cannot ignore this. God does not sanction suicide & handing the land over to the Arabs is what that would amount to. Moreover, the Torah forbids us from handing the land over to Gentiles. So even if it was wrong to take it over at this time, it is even more wrong to hand it back. Btw... on a side note, if it was in fact handed back, to whom would it be handed? The British? I have to say I am a bit unclear when you ask me about Syria. Are you asking about the current political situation there? Or are you asking this relative to what Isaiah speaks about Damascus? As far as Damascus being destroyed as Isaiah (chapter 17) says, upon studying the relevant passage with Rashi's commentary I believe this already occurred in the times of King Achaz. Note Isaiah chapter 7 which speaks of Retsin king of Aram (whose capital was Damascus) is really the prelude to what Isaiah mentions here. Note also how Aroer (which is part of Israel) is also mentioned here. The connection being Pekach with Retsin mentioned sharing an alliance in Isaiah chapter 7.

I ask cause i just read something from this Christian guy who spent some time in Israel and said that this scripture scholar told him it's not Yahweh but Yehovah. Is that true?" My response, this is a bit complicated. There is a famous expression about this. It goes like this... "those who know don't tell, those who tell don't know." Are you aware that the Hebrew alphabet is all consonants? The only way we know how to sound o9ut a word is based on oral tradition. (which is part of why Jews are baffled when Christians disparage the Rabbis) If not for the Rabbis, Christians would actually not know how to read a single verse in what they call the old test. Anyway, in the case of the Name, the reason why "Yih-ho-vuh" is the way he may have told the Christian as to how it is pronounced is because traditionally, we Jews tend to write out the vowels of the word in such a way as to copy the way we vowelize the word "Adonoi".(which is another Name we use for God) So yes, the man is correct that this is the way it would be pronounced, however this is only so because we are borrowing the vowels from a different word in order to vowelize the word Yih-ho-vuh in this manner. The bottom line of all this is that if anybody actually knows the proper way to pronounce the Name, they would not reveal this. & personally speaking, I would highly doubt that there is anybody alive today who actually knows the correct pronunciation. (I of course can't be 100% sure of this) I will conclude this post with the following explanation that may shed some light on all this. Exodus 3:15 states something very interesting. Right near the end of the verse we find stated "this is My Name forever". However the Hebrew word used here for forever (lih'olam) has a very interesting anomaly. Normally the word would be spelled "lamed, ayin, vav, lamed, mem". However in this verse the word is missing the vav. Now with the missing vav the word can be read instead of lih'olam which means forever, it can be read as "lih'alem" which means to hide. We thus derive from this that God wanted His Name to be hidden. This is precisely why the Sages of Israel who did know His Name and how to correctly pronounce it, hid this information from the public at large. Tradition tells us that the High Priest would speak out the Name once a year on Yom Kippur when he stood in the Holy of Holies. The people gathered at the Temple would actually then hear the Name, but they would miraculously forget it once they left the Temple. Thus God's will for the Name to be hidden remained preserved.

I don´t think Matthew lied, but whoever modified his gospel, by inserting the virgin story, did.
Clearly Matthew wanted to give us the lineage of Jesus because the first sentence says the following: "This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham." He didn't say the genealogy of Joseph the husband of Mary.
In one of the oldest Coptic versions the geneaology indeed makes Joseph the real father of Jesus and he only became the son of God at baptism where the voice from heaven said "You are my son, today I have begotten you" instead of "You are my son in whom I'm well pleased.". Also in some church fathers this part is quoted like this.
This proofs that the gospel of Matthew was modified, very likely to add the virgin idea, to make Jesus compatible with the gods of the Roman Empire.

Here's a 'dual prophecy'--so deserving of sola scrip-tians: Mary is 6 years old, both an alma and virgin. Her Father Joseph is a carpenter, heard her prayer for "her own child" {a doll}. She CONCEIVED that he would be great, and grow up to be King. By the Holy Spirit, her prayer "became flesh", and dwelt among us.He did no sin, and all marveled at his countenance. Fulfill by letter, LIES get better.

Almah is only used a few times in Hebrew Scripture. Many scholars aren't overly conclusive that Betulah even means virgin all the time as in some parts of the Scripture it mentions 'Betulah who has not known man.' The Greek translation confirms what they meant. It's nothing to laugh about or to mock.
When God made this prophecy he spoke to the house of David, not to Ahaz, nor specifically to Issiah. Issiah did not have a son who was named Immanuel. Jesus is Immanuel because he is God. Immanuel means "God with us." The reason he was predicted 700 years earlier was because the line of David was being threatened. Ahaz was against God, he wouldn't put trust in him, and he acted as if he was a threat to God's people and God's promises.
As it says in his accounts Jesus was born of a virgin, he ended the iniquities of many, he brought peace to God's people by conquering sin, he answered Daniel's prayer fulfilled the 70 sevens prophecy, he was born in Bethlehem as prophesised in Micah, he resurrected in the same number of days Jonah was in the whale, the formation of the isrealites in the book of numbers was in the shape of a perfectly dimensioned cross, and he died as a perfect sacrifice. These are just a few references. If you would ask me, sacrificing animals is an unusual way to make atonement for sins. There was a reason for it from day 1.
That all brings me to my final point. There is a lot of argument about messianic prophecy in this day and age. Throughout the new testament, Jesus says to the pharisees who don't believe, that they didn't know his Father in heaven. The word "know" has always stuck out to me. The prophecies are more like hints about the Messiah throughout the Scripture. Some were directly known to relate to the Messiah and others weren't even known to be prophecies. You cannot intellectually derive everything about the Messiah from the Old Testament. You can only conclude on what was directly said about the Messiah. If you study the life of Jesus, you can understand that the whole Old Testament was written in preparation to him. Some prophecies about the Messiah werent known to be Messianic prophecies. Some werent even know to be prophecies at all. So when they were fulfilled it made the picture even more beautiful than it was expected. Thats only something God can set up. The Old Testament did not allow us to predict everything about the Messiah before Jesus came. The Old Testament did provide us, however, with bits and pieces of information that if we truly trusted in and truly knew God in the same way a child knows their parent, then we would know exactly who the Messiah was when he came.

Many Qur'anic verses state that Jesus called people to believe in Gods oneness and that he called him self " a servant of God " The Quran stresses that his mother Mary(Maryam) was sinless, dedicated to the temple, and raised under Prophet Zakariyas guidance. It also relates the miracle God gave her, Jesus, miraculous birth without a father, miracles were given to Jesus, his Prophethood, and his being rise to the sky by God(3:33-64). In Maryam:19, their behavior and postures are described and praised. Of all religions, Islam is the only one to attest that Mary was a virgin and gave birth to Jesus miraculously. Islam is even more sensitive about this subject than Christians. In fact, in the Bible says in Luke(chapters 2, 4 , 5) that Mary was engaged to a carpenter name Joseph, whereas the Quran mentions no such person.

    CHURCH --- FOR THE POOR
Three dead creeds, in a nutshell that is the Christian, Judaism and Islam no-morality religions. Just listen to all their sermons, so void of morality you would think they were social clubs with no burden but to keep the fellowship entertained.
Three worthless creeds, as virtually all their members are in the more intelligent upper-half of society, the half that since the beginning of civilization has hoarded all the land, wealth, political power and healthcare.
For a fact, if God had not created this liars paradise to reach the ultimate conclusion of violent sin, those three dead creeds would never have come to be and 90% of all the violence on earth would have never transpired.
For though the hallmark of true morality is to be a pacifist vegetarian with no more wealth then the poor, these the three most ungodly creeds on earth have 99% of their members willing to kill in war, eaters of dead flesh and have more wealth then they know what to do with, giving them full blood guilt for the one billion humans slowly starving to death,
And so, welcome to our no-religion and all-morality fellowship, where unlike the charismatic churches that say, “Leave your values at the door,” we say that values are said and done in public, while religion should be practiced only at home.
OUR ONLY JOB IN SALVATION --- BE GRATEFUL
For if our faith was created by God, our will to do good works the
indwelling Spirit of God, then as sinners we have been chosen from
a great many sinners by God and our gratitude is but the fruit of the Spirit.

Tovia is saying a young woman cannot be a virgin. (God is with us) just means God is with his people. It was a miracle to cause the seed (egg) of Mary womb to become active with the spirit of life without the man passing it on. Just as Adam was given the spirit of life to become the first MAN created in Gods image. Jesus was begotten by the power of God's spirit to become the second MAN to be created in Gods image who would remain loyal to God and restore the wrong done by Adam. It was just a sign. (A young woman or virgin would give birth to a son who when born would be holy and called Gods son, he never had a human father just as Adam did not) It was never meant to be an exact word for word application. Jesus was born of Jewish woman so he was a Jew and so was a legitimate heir to the throne of David.

    • @jacobdaniel5989
      @jacobdaniel5989 7 років тому +7

Nope on a couple these. 1)Jesus is not a "second man" like Adam. Jesus had a physical mother, Adam did not. Jesus having a mother means he was dependent on a human for existence. That makes him at best, a demigod. 2) Yes, jesus having a Jewish mother would make him jewish, but not a legitimate heir to....anything. If you claim god is his father, then he can't be David's heir. And lineage always goes through the father, not the mother.

    • @dudleybarnes8574
      @dudleybarnes8574 7 років тому

Well, I appreciate your comments! I think Jesus is a new creation begotten by God. The spirit of God causing the seed (egg) cell of Mary to become an active seed, producing a human who did not have a human father. Just as Adam had God as his father, Jesus had God as his father.
Jesus was formed out of the ground supplied by the natural process of the woman maternal organ, the spirit (principle of life supplied by God). Hence Jesus is refer to an only begotten earthly son of God. And Adam the first created earthly son of God.
And it is true Jesus depended on his mother and was fully human just as Adam was before he sinned. But like all of us, God is our ultimate source of life. Ps 36:10. I do not believe this makes Jesus a God in any form. Except to be in the image and likeness of God just as the first created Adam had be. He was to represent God, not be God.
And if God wishes to give him the throne of his forefather David than he can give it to ever he wishes. Dan 4:14.

    • @jacobdaniel5989
      @jacobdaniel5989 7 років тому +2

Dudley Barnes Adam didn't sin. Nowhere is that stated or implied. If you claim god is jesus father, then you are stating he is a demigod by definition. If God is his father then David isn't his forefather.

    • @dudleybarnes8574
      @dudleybarnes8574 7 років тому

If Jesus is Jewish, David is his forefather even if his mother is a descendant of David.
God had told David that God would be the father of his seed and he would be his father and he would be a son. 2 Sam7:14 (i.e for an everlasting kingdom)
Solomon was the direct result however it would be further down the track that God caused the seed of David in Marys womb to become active by a miraculous conception.
I take it you don't believe God was the father of Adam?
Jesus is a miracle of creation not the result of God having intercourse or sex with a human, as I understand demigods. God just created another perfect man in his image, but this time using that which he had created to form his son by Marys natural maternal organ.
Did Adam die? if he died he sinned according to the principle of Ezek 18:4, 20.
Did Adam eat of the tree of God and bad disobeying God?
Had not HaShem forbidden Adam from eating of that tree with the penalty of death?
      What does Gen 2:17 IMPLY?
Are you not aware of what the Torah says?

    • @jacobdaniel5989
      @jacobdaniel5989 7 років тому +1

Dudley Barnes 1)David is not his forefather if God is his father. Lineage never goes through the mother.
      2) "god had told David that God would be the father of his seed... " umm, god says no such thing. He makes it explicitly clear in verse 12 that this is David's physical descendant. (Small technical point, these verses are the words spoken to Nathan, not David, but I understood what you meant)
      3) Jesus is NOT David's seed if God is his father. (NT even acknowledges that Joseph/David is not jesus's father)
      4) God created Adam, he is not his father, in the sense that the NT claims god is the father of jesus. (If God were the "father" of Adam like jesus, then jesus isn't his "only begotten son")
      5) Sexual intercourse is not a requirement for a demigod. Demigod by definition is- The term demigod or demi-god can refer to a minor deity, a mortal or immortal who is the offspring of a god and a human being, or a figure who has attained divine status after death. Example of a God conceived without sex- Horus born of Isis .
      6) Yes, Adam died. Just because someone dies, it does not mean they sinned. Is a stillborn baby guilty of sin?
      7) Yes, Adam ate the fruit. Yes, he disobeyed
      8) Yes, god forbade Adam to eat the fruit. Yes, god said he would "die".
      9) Genesis 2:17 implies that God was not talking about a physical death. The verse states that " for on the day that you eat thereof, you shall surely die." Did Adam die that day? Seems obvious to me that God wasn't referring to a physical death.

Oh, Rabbi Tovia Singer, you're always wrong when comes to Isaiah 7:14 which was fulfilled as described by Matthew in his gospel as he didn't write by himself but by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
Now, you say that the word Bethulah is not applying to a virgin and only to a young woman and so on and on but fact of the matter is that there's a Holy Spirit exist even now and if the same Holy Spirit enters into any man, I say man, then that sorts of a man become like Christ, Now, Christ challenged the power of death b/c his physical body is the temple of God and the same manner the Holy Spirit indwells man might be a temple of God.
Therefore, you can test & verify b/c Temple of God can't be destroyed by cancer, accidents or even by weapons. Rabbi Tovia, you're only talking but do you ever think of demonstrating a Jew?
You know pretty well a Jew is the one who has God in him, if so, can you challenge the power of death like Jesus did in John 2:19? You can't do that I know, that only proves you're not a true Jew but Jesus was a Jew and his witnesses even in the 21st century also Jews and can challenge the power of death if you could organize a meeting in your Synagogue's then we can do some reasonable realities.
