I had been trying to find this film for years on torrents, since I owned it on DVD but the disc ended up getting beat up. Finally found the full film on UA-cam a couple months ago and it was so great to revisit it again. The music always reminds me of Mark Mothersbaugh's work on Wes Anderson films like Life Aquatic (especially the part right at the start of the final fight)

IMO Kazamatsuri is not a bad guy, but not a good guy either. He's just a normal dude, though a fine swordsman, caught up in odd circumstances. He's under appreciated and under utilized and falsely accused which is what leads to him stealing the Shogun gift. He really tries to avoid unnecessary violence.

I used to see it mentioned in some top 10 lists but never got around to watching until now.. It's a fun parody of what we're used to. Definitely worth watching.

Ive been on a bit of a samurai binge lately so i purchased Blade Of The Immortal live action movie, 13 Assassins and Rurouni Kenshin live action movies. WOW what a great time i highly recommend watching these movies.
