    I am impressed!!
    Even more than before!!
    You did the rewinding in a more mechanical way!!!
    I did it completely by hand!
    One turn at a time and marking down each turn on a piece of paper…so if I forgot where I was…then at least I had a reference.
    All that took weeks!!
    Of course I work a day job too…soooo, it was make a turn or two, eat shower sleep get up go to work….blah blah blah yada yada yada
    Then of course there was fixing a busted pipe and replacing a servo for the ice maker on my wife fridge and a full maintenance service on my Buick then cut the grass….ugh…make this ol’man tired just thinkin’ about it!
    Anyway…
    Again excellent video!
    And
    I learned something new!!

    Another thing with the brush installation, while you have the brush plate upside down with the brushes installed you can insert the armature into the plate to hold the brushes in place. The hold the armature shaft gently with a pair of needle nose pliers and then install it into the motor frame.

    Rewrapping an armature is one thing I’ve yet to tackle. I’ve read up on it, watched a few videos, it doesn’t seem terrible but it also doesn’t seem like it would be fun either. Eventually I’ll run into something that I’ll just do it and have something else in my bag of tricks that everyone else is afraid to tackle lol. Awesome job!!

  • @genemanno1533
    @genemanno1533 5 місяців тому

    Excellent, nobody has shown rewinding for train motors. You speed up the process with drill turning it. Clever. I’ve done it hundreds of times years ago for slot car motors to race at commercial tracks. Winding was with a clamp and crank spinning armature around by hand. The experimentation of different gauge wire and # of turns could yield higher torque for greater pulling power. 😊😊

    • @classicmodeltrains
      @classicmodeltrains  5 місяців тому

      Yup. Quite a few Fellers have shared with me about re-winding the slot car motors back in the day

  • @garysmith7056
    @garysmith7056 5 місяців тому

    Ron good job on the rewind. I remember when I was in high school we raced slot cars on a big track in "the slot car race" store. My car was slower than I wanted so I rewound the motor with bigger wire "which made it use more electricity more than the track supplied so I put 2 six volt lantern batteries in a brief case which I connected to the track and then my car ran so fast no one could even keep it on the track. but it was fun.

    Back when I had a hobby shop (late 80’s). RC car racing was the rage. Hand wound motors were a big deal.
    If I remember correctly:
    Thick wire with fewer turns yields, high RPM/lower torque.
    Thin wire with more turns yields more toque /lower RPMs.

    I enjoyed your video of rewinding the armature and the 250 E. I have a suggestion instead of using shrink tubing may use liquid tape may buy Garner bender It comes in black blue and red apply with a Q-tip small brush and let it dry for 10 minutes. Apply one more coat and you’re good to go. Situations, this is better than shrink tubing. Also if you forget to put the tubing on before you solder, this is a good alternative. This liquid rubber is made for electrical connections try it I think you’ll like it

    • @classicmodeltrains
      @classicmodeltrains  5 місяців тому

      This plate is actually backwards than you would think. if its installed there is no way to actually drop a brush in the holder. even if the spring was removed. its made to install brushes just as I showed. might be a prewar thing? I dont know.

    Another great successful video! Just an FYI, when you wind up the armature wire with the drill you can actually stretch the wire without breaking it thinking you vae the same number of raps of wire. This can make you resistance readings be different like you had. Not a big deal just an explanation. Good luck with the sale.

    Ron, thank you. I just had the best chat and purchase. This guy is the real deal. We yucked it up and I got some really nice rolling stock for my new layout. I felt like I was talking to a celebrity! Thanks Ron. Pleasure dealing with you. Matt

    I have a Marx 666 that needs rewinding. Can you help me with it?

      I dont want to take on any more customer work Frank. I have so much here now to work on. I would suggest buying a parts 666. There very inexpensive. I'm actually surprised to hear a Marx armature is bad. Someone must have worked hard on it to burn it out.

      @@classicmodeltrains l had a lion el transformer giving it too much juice. Pure ignorance on my part , trains are on hold still from the hurricane 🌀 Ian in Florida. The 666 is a scale sized engine since it's a small one , but you put it next to a steam turbine you see how out of place it is being so downsized the big locomotive is. Like when you put a 1:50 bus next to a 1:43 O scale car the size difference is quite noticable. But thanks anyways.
