- You need energy to do literally anything, even just lay still and think. Where does this energy come from? Well, food, right? But how? This is one of the most miraculous biological processes, and it happens in our bodies every moment of every day. It's quite complicated, so let's check it out in three sections. First up, glycolysis!

When I graduate med school I will be making a hefty donation to this guy. He has saved my butt.
same here
Update? Did you graduate yet?
actually you will be deep in student debt, maybe a decade or two after graduation though?
@@imawakemymindisalive13 well damn
😂@@imawakemymindisalive13
you're way better than my textbook and my professor combined
You have explained me concepts in 8 flat minutes which I did not understand in a two hour lecture. You are a legend Sir!
P.S. The introductory song is very catchy.
HE KNOWS A LOT ABOUT THE SCIENCE STUFF! PROFESSOR DAVE EXPLAINS!
exactly like me . Thanks Dr/Dave.
HE KNOWS A LOT ABOUT THE SCIENCE STUFF! PROFESSOR DAVE EXPLAINS!
@@syedshadmansakibsame here😊😊
Now, imagine you are binge-watching 1-2 playlists. I hear this song in my sleep. Still Prof.Dave = the GOAT.
This 8:11 min. video is much better than a one hour class, and that table at end which comprises all the important details and names of enzymes are mind blowing.Keep helping us like this. Thanks😀
Fell into depression cause I couldn't understand this topic in time for my med exams ...but wow ...that was so short, simplified but detailed at the same time🥺❤️👏 thank you professor God bless you
Thanks again Professor Dave, so far you have a video for all the topics we are covering in Biology. The videos are really helpful, I watch them after I read a lesson. I introduced one of my classmates to your videos. You are appreciated.
thanks kindly! happy to be of service
Thank you. Have been watching your DNA videos to supplement my biology class at UT in Arlington. Work in Engineering for the VA hospital and decided to study nursing. Thank you for clarifying!
Thank you, sir! I have a gigantic exam in just a few hours. This was the icing on my 'cake' of study! Fills in the blanks and provides short, but thorough, explanations. You've got a subscription out of me.
This is very comprehensive, well-explained, and easy to follow compared to a lot other vids on the topic. Thanks a ton for making this.
I wish I found you sooner. This video was so helpful for me. I have one more biochem test after the one I watched this video for. I'll definitely be watching more this semester!
you are a present to the world man i'm a loyal subscriber keep up the detailed interesting videos your THE MAN!!
thanks for watching!
you are literally doing God's work. Been with me since a freshman. I am now in my Junior year. LEGEND.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Clear, concise, and linear, your teaching method rocks!
A very clear and lucid explanation of respiration for the novice - presented in very simple language. Great stuff!
You’re the best. So simply explained, and the table at the end was a awesome addition
Thank you for simplifying this complex process...helped a ton with studies!
Another great class and another confirmation of outstanding machine our body is!
This video helps me in my biochemistry exam ... Thank you 💜💜
This is incredible! one of the best version I've seen. this guy's a genius!
This is just way too good. I find myself watching these just out of curiosity and not because I need it... When I think about it, I need this more than anything. Just knowing it is awesome. Thank you for your effort
that's the ultimate goal! people watching just for fun and general comprehension. spread the good word!
Thank you
Years later & still find myself watching your videos.
You’re the GOAT!
Thank you for actually going through the ten steps with each enzyme!!!
Thank you for making that very easy to understand. I've been struggling with this concept lately, and now I understand it. Thanks!
Thanks Professor Dave, by showing the molecules as they change through the process I finally get it!
thank you Professor...your videos are really helping me in all my biochemistry exams...keep it up🙌🙌
Thank you so much!! I was having a hard time trying to memorize these as I read my textbook but now I feel less lost! It's great to listen someone summarize for you
My professor recommended me this video and is just Gold! I can't believe a good video like this exists
Wow! You made this way easier to understand than by biology professor has. Thanks!
Fantastic, clear explanation of a complex biochemical process. Thank you, Prof. Dave!
Omg I have an exam tomorrow and you summarized the whole lesson in this video, thank you sm, this really made the studying process so much more simple for me.🖤
i always search your channel when it comes to biochemistry, thank you for sharing this video! it really helps us. your video is much better than the other channels because it was more precise and your speech was clear. :)
and btw, im from the philippines :) i will share your channel to my classmates!

@@aanandakrishnan8285 hello I am adeel
Professor where from you
You're the best professor Dev. Much love.
Such a great explaination ! U help me a lot
sooo basically,
Glucose (6C) splits into 2 (3C) Pyruvate
1. 1 phosphate added to 1 side (-1 ATP)
2. 1 phosphate other to 1 side (-1 ATP)
3. 6C splits into 2 C3
4. Hydride (H-) removed from each, reducing 2 NAD+ to NADH (or FAD+ -> FADH2?) .
5. Hydrides are replaced with an inorganic phosphate on both (not from ATP) Now, 2 P’s on either side of both GP3’s)
6. Phosphates on either side of both molecules then split and go to ADP to create 4 ATP, becoming 2 Pyruvates (3C)
NET = 2 ATP & 2 NADH
so what is the difference between the 2 C3 (step number three) and the 2 pyruvates?
@@maysk.5998 I’m learning this myself, but I think it’s the fact that the pyruvates get phosphorylated in step 3 by phosphofructokinase 1, and they get dephosphorylated, or lose a phosphate group, to replinish the ADP’s into ATP again.
you deserve more subscribers !! you helped me by sharing this video and now I'm gonna help you by sharing your channel to my mates
woo! that's all i can hope for!
you brilliant, brilliant guy! thank you so much.
Simple and straightforward, thank you!
This was very helpful @professor. I needed this for my biology and biochemistry class.. Thanks
Excellent, you made so each to follow and understand. Thank you Prof
thank you for this video prof. I almost spend 5hrs in watching other videos about glycolysis from various channel but thanks God your explained it very well. You're the living Gift from God for me.
Professor Dave!
I!
LOVE!
You!!!!!!!!!
I finally see the light 💡
Hallelujah 🙌
I'm way out here In Ghana and your videos have really helped me , you're the best
Explained beautifully. Thank you so much!
This is absolutely awesome
Best video for this lesson I’ve ever seen thanks teacher🌹🙏
Thanks for your video, has made me super with great understanding in biochemistry
Finally a video I can understand! Thank you!!
Thanks! I've just managed to go through all my notes with help of your videos(Biochemistry) to see if I missed anything. You saved my life! You also made it easier for me since you made a playlist with all the videos from Biochemistry (Y)
my pleasure!
tnq professor Dave, u made me easy 2 understand glycolysis
This is so awesome! Genius! Thank you!
A lot of videos repeat things "atp stores energy" and "you get energy when a phosphate group is released" but they don't explain it and probably they themselves don't know what it means. Professor dace does a good job at explaining it
Thank you sir you helped me in my last hope when I am stucked with these concepts thank you sir
THANK YOU Professor! I'm always following your videos. Please don't stop!
Thanks, for the video and chart!
Love your videos! You are building up quite an impressive and broad reperoir:) They are so great to catch the main ideas and concepts and to get some overview before embarking on a proper heavy reading:) But in this particular video the analogy of a living organism to a machine catched my attention. Because there is much to philosophise about this kind of perception. I'm reading a book titled 'The Turning Point' written by Fritjof Capra and it is basicly a book about the need of revolution in the modern science as well as our western culture rooted in mechanistic understanding of pretty much everything. I wonder if you will jump into this kind of stuff in the future. I mean covering the science of philosophy:) I'm studying Molecular Biology but I'm totally into having broader perspectives upon... Yeah, everything I gues: metaphysics and what not.
Incredible stages of respiration!
Nicely explained, but complex to remember! 😳
You are an amazing instructor!
This is so good! Thank you!
very nice. Thank you
man my exam is tomorrow morning and this literally saved me thank youuuuu
Cool, I am a DNA chemist, so I never learned about metabolism but I also new ATP was involved. Now I can see how are food is used to generate ATP through this cycle :) I heard we make 80 kg of ATP a day, pretty crazy synthesis scale!
holy smokes, that sounds like too big a mass! but i suppose it could be true.
hows it going? what do you do as a DNA chemist?
Is there a video like this on gluconeogenesis? Great video btw :)
very clear thank you so much
You're so good!Thank you so much!
Thanks professor Dave for clear explanation compare to my previous lecture which takes me a number of hours to understand but not real.❤❤
Dying laughing.. have no idea.. completely lost on the verbs you're using 😭. Imma have to Google so many words lol
Omg I love you for your work! Thanks a lot prof
thank you so much, professor
Thank you for your videos! :)
You have saved me and my midterms exam once again, science jesus
Thank you for existing. Sal from KA drives me nuts with his off-topic talking.
thank u for making it uderstandable to a 10th grade student
Excellent!
Thank you Prof.
Wow You are intelligent I really appreciate you PROFESSOR DAVE!!!
I LOVE YOU PROFESSOR DAVE
You are a great professor
Thank you
PROF DAVE i love you
You are great !!!!! thank you so much
Wow I used to watch you flat Earth videos a while back but now here I am studying for my introductory biology class. A true man
best bio vids fr fr
hulog ka ng langit, ser. salamat
Thanks!
GOOD JOB
Lol I️ watched this in bio 1 and skipped 3:33. Now I'm back for biochem and thankful that your're going over the reactions in 3:33
Have you upload that chart at the end somewhere? It would be useful to print it out!
just put the clip in full screen mode and take a screenshot! command-shift-3
Thank you a lot!
This video is going to save me. I did not explect the first class in my biology minor to be quite this memoriztion heavy.
I would pay you for tutoring !! Wish you lived closer
Thank you!
Just one question ..do you make lesson plan befor the video..?
1. Any glucose can enter glycolysis either beta or alpha right ?
2. I think the net overall equals 8 atp ( 2 ATP + 2 NADH )
Because starting from step 6 or after producing 2 GADP we will double every nad or atp
So from step 6 to step 10 we will have 10 atp
Minus 2 atp from the first 5 steps the net overall equal 8 atp
What do you think?
Thank u professor Dave
Thank you sir We as Tanzanian students we are now aware on it
you're my saviour!
Excellent
I liked! Very good 🤙
what an explanation!!!!
I wanna say thank you so much because I got a 22/18 on my bio test while everybody else got 10-15’s 🙏🙏
