I remember watching the 1980 NLCS Phillies vs Astros, WOW what an absolutely amazing series that was. I have watched a lot of baseball in my life, but I still rank that NLCS at the top, so much drama and extra inning games, plus Pete Rose and Nolan Ryan, Mike Schmidt, Tug McGraw, Jose Cruz, Lefty, Joe Morgan, Terry Puhl, just so many good players. What an amazing year that was, THANK YOU for putting these games up, this brings back my childhood, you are the best.
We don’t realise how spoilt we are these days where the score and running play is always shown at the bottom or top of the screen and of course with full HD picture. I love watching classic and vintage ball games. Thanks for posting.
A very nice game pitched by Lynn McGlothen. I loved him when he came up with the Bosox in the early ‘70’s. His early death was so tragic. Great to hear Brickhouse. A fantastic TV announcer!
Sutter saves another one ! This video reminds me of what I remember about old telecasts from parks with Astroturf. You could never see the ball in play.
LOVE the National Anthem being played on the baseball park organ! that way, some "up & coming" pop/rock, etc, singer can't twist it to Boost their career. This was pure and simple. Innocent.
@@BLaw707 no, original poster is correct. uniforms were light blue base, pinstripes were white, not blue. Cubs never had a road uniform with blue pinstripes
Great to see a rare road WGN broadcast from this era for the Cubs before the start of the Harry Caray years. I do think the Cubs should had their blue jerseys and white pants road look out sooner than 1982. I would've loved to had seen them start wearing it in the late 70s. I liked the blue pinstripe uniforms too.
1:08:00 Jesus Figueroa in CF. Figgy was the BP Pitcher for the Blue Jays from 1988 to 2018 and is now working with the DSL Blue Jays. A Blue Jays legend! Had to edit my post to get the time right.
This is no way diminishes my gratitude to you for sharing this: I'm curious to see how much they had to cut for a three-hour game to fit into two hours.
Faster than that actually, from the crack of the bat, I clocked him at a little over 11 seconds but we don't see him stepping on the bag so had to kind of anticipate. But, look at Garry Templeton's triple later at 1:39:25, he clocked even faster at 11 flat WHILE slowing down on his way to 3rd!
I think what they are doing to todays games is aweful --trying to quicken the pace and all to make the game 90 minutes or so. They're taking away ALL of the strategy of baseball. The runner on first takes a big lead, you step off the rubber. Or the batter stepping out of the batters box to regroup. And they're even told to swing more now so Walks and strikeouts will go way down. Why can't they just leave baseball to be baseball and all of the drama will follow? They don't want drama --they want ACTION! Baseball is at its best with action and strategy. I think they're ruining the game.
You should do a little research on Cardinals moves during the 70's. Carlton, Richie Allen, Jose Cruz, Reggie Smith, Bake McBride just to name a few were traded or sold for basically nothing
i would watch baseball from pre-1994 strike. To me that strike was equivalent to the COVID lcok-downs later on. I know all these players because I followed the Expos quite closely with my pocket AM radio (in French) in the summer.
.....always nice to have relevance tie into what is being commented on. I don't see or hear ANYTHING about a strike, Expos, AM radio or french language during this broadcast. Please, stick to the game on the screen.

Loved the play-by-play from Jack Brickhouse

I tuned in just to listen to Brickhouse
Can't thank you enough for adding all these wonderful Cub memories that I grew up with as a kid. Buckner, Kingman & Sutter...some of my heroes!
I totally love them, I need to buy that jersey, it's awesome, wish they can wear them more often

And he ended up being a big part of the Cardinals 82 World Champions!!!!!!!!!!!!
My mom used to serve Jack brickhouse at the Northshore country club in Glenview in the late 70s, she told me he was a good tipper
Five of the top ten 1980 NL Batting Leaders are in this game: 1. Buckner .324 2. Hernandez .321 3. Templeton .319 9. Simmons .303 10. Hendrick .302
Much better times.
I forgot Buckner played RF few games. His legs were already shot then .RIP.

Wonderful memories.
Why listen to lousy Holiday music, when you can enjoy old school baseball broadcasts on UA-cam?
this is GREAT thank You!!! more 70s and early 80s Cubs and White Sox!!
I don't care what anyone says; I love those blue uniforms with the white pinstripes.
But these particular Cubs road uniforms had dark blue pinstripes on light blue base.
@@BLaw707 no, original poster is correct. uniforms were light blue base, pinstripes were white, not blue. Cubs never had a road uniform with blue pinstripes
Not bad, but as a kid I thought they looked like pajamas.
@@scottunes3957It must be a Mandela effect because I "remember" the dark blue pinstripes as well
Me as well Mark 👌
Templeton! My favorite #1 before Ozzie! Back then it was the worst trade for me ever! Also Mike Tyson played for the Cardinals also.
Wow, the whole game with Brickhouse. This is amazing, too bad it’s not a home game.

Harry Carey was a Cardinals announcer as far as I’m concerned. 😮

Ironic. The Cubs announcer gushing over future Cub Leon Durham. “Good looking young player here.”
Traded, with Ken Reitz, to the Cubs for Bruce Sutter, on 12/9/1980, the day after John Lennon was murdered.
2:01:28... On 12/9/80... The Cubs traded Bruce Sutter to the Cardinals for Ken Reitz, Ty Waller, and Leon Durham.

Game was 2:30 and they cut the commercials
" Knocked down by Tyson" @ 34:00. Who knew in a few years many a boxing announcer would be saying this.😁
1:28:36 ok - did i just see de jesus go from Home to 3B in 12 seconds. that is not possible.

18:50 George Hendrick ahead of the times by wearing the long pants
As a Cardinals fan I remember Gary Templeton he was traded for Ozzie Smith
Best Cubbies uniform ever, I think the METS had a similar uniform to at one time.
リン マグロセンは打撃も素晴らしい!
I never knew Mike Tyson played base ball.
Lynn McGlothen sadly died in a fire at the of 34.
Not that Mike Tyson lol
That's why batting helmets cover one ear. Tyson bit off a batter's ear lobe one time and they had to change the helmet design.

Cubs fans hated the kennedy bungled trades and being too cheap to let the cubs be contenders.too bad he didn't work for st Louis instead.
Kennedy had to work within a budget, didn't he?
The Wrigleys should take the blame for that.
