April 30, 1980 fell on a Wednesday! I had returned about a month earlier from my first-ever trip to Florida, where I would go periodically the next 29 years! But the Cubs finished last that season; the Angels (who finished first in 1979) were in sixth place, too. Thank you for this old game (lol)!
Man do I love your baseball archive. Being a Chicago kid growing up with Jack Brickhouse and both the Sox and Cubs I was able to see the greatest players of the 60s, 70s, 80s on. These are gems for me and most likely being a big time baseball fan probably watched this game in real time. It wouldn't surprise me if one day you show a game I attended. Do you have any Cubs vs. Pirates with Clemente. I remember seeing him play against the Cubs. HOFes and All Stars on both teams. Love all these games. Great memories for a 23 year old! All I can say is thank you. Really am a big fan of Jack Brickhouse. The Ken Holtzman no hitters were great too!
Hank Mix That's because they wanted us kids to buy pack after pack in hopes of a card like Johnny Bench. Tom Seaver was another card that was a long shot. I had 20 Marty Perez and Mike Lum cards before I got a Seaver or Steve Carlton card.
Forget that, you wouldn’t see Herzog in another Miller Lite commercial again in 2 months. Gussie Busch hired him to manage the Cardinals on June 8, 1980. And we all know who owned the Cardinals I.e.( And it wasn’t Miller Beer, it was Anheuser Busch and Budweiser) I bet Busch never allowed those Miller Light Beer commercials with Whitey in them to ever air again. Don’t know how he could have kept it from happening but you can bet your @ss he did.
25:10 Ken Reitz always had funky runs scored stats. For example, in 1979 he had 162 hits 42 doubles and 8 homers, but only scored 42 runs. It was only in 1977 that Ken would score more than 50 runs. The pattern stayed the same when Ken went to The Giants for the 1976 season, scoring 41 runs.
Absolutely love the Blue Uniforms the CUBS wore in 1980 wish they would've kept it instead of going to a darker shade of Blue with White pants of 1984 which was a cheesy generic look
Lenny Randle played for the Cubs in 1980, but he is still best known for a fight with his own manager of the Texas Rangers whom he hit in the face after an incident back in 1977. He was suspended, and then traded to the Mets.
Thanks for placing on UA-cam. I also enjoyed the Don Cardwell no hitter film against the Cards that showed Musial still playing. Do you have any others from 1963 or prior with Musial still active? I was born in 1953 and those were my early days as a Cards fan in STL. Thanks!
Willie Hernandez Dennis lamp bill Caudill, Dennis Eckersley the Cubs had some pretty good pictures who could have been utilized in relief instead of being starter
I love watching baseball from 1979- 1987. It was great back then.
Totally agree, I’d rather watch an old game than a new 1 any day
I loved baseball then myself but loved the 60s the most. Some great memories of the greatest players in the game.
Started going down hill with LaRussa's Steroid Boys.
Terrible cookie-cutter ballparks with fake grass that played like billiard tables.

Since becoming a Metsie, Keith Hernandez has been my favorite player, I’m always happy to see him in his prime. Thanks for posting more Cards!
This game really showcased what a great player Gary Templeton was. Fabulous! The folksy style of Jack Brickhouse also never fails to entertain me.
Your channel releasing the goodies is like Christmas ever say. Thank you!

I absolutely love all of these! Thx so much 👍👍
Feel like there were always 50 Mick Kelleher cards for 1 Johnny Bench. Great stuff as always. Please keep the memories coming.

I think the 2d best are the light beer & car commercials
0:22 Whitey Herzog in a Miller ad. Wouldn't see that again in two years!

I agree. Some dismiss them as "pajamas-like", but I thought they were cool looking and uniquue.

I thought he was best known for trying to blow a slow roller foul with the Mariners.

Larry, as a Cubs announcer, I heard Harry Carry say. that Stan Musial was the BEST hitter HE ever seen.

Did Dennis Lamp pitch every game the Cubs played in the late 70's early 80's? I swear he always the starting pitcher in these videos. Ha ha
Lamp pitched in the games Rick Reuschel didn't
