Was there never a threat of consequences for this "fatal flaw" of his? At least I thought that was the source of tension in his story. Either he'd not be able to resist the temptation and be destroyed, or he'd find peace with who he is, or he'd fail to reach godhood AND fail to find peace with who he is... or possibly continue to grovel to Mystra for redemption. Idk, man. I've not gotten to the ending yet, so I don't know the explanation as to how/why he even survives the power of the crown. Just the concept has me kinda quirk my eyebrow a little bit.
In a sense I feel like the God Gale ending is his punishment. If you talk to him during the party it's clear that he becomes everything he resented/was jealous of the gods for, he demands his followers to achieve ambition without truly giving back and helping them on their way, just like Mystra does to him as a goddess. He has become everything that he originally wanted, the ability and the knowledge that he is above mortals and mortality, but he lost his humanity on the way. It's even strongly implied that the party is the first time Tav sees Gale again after the main game's events.
(ending spoilers!) Before Patch 5, Origin-Gale died because it seems he was directly planning to usurp Mystra of her domain, leading her to kill him since he threatened her existence. In the updated Companion-godGale AND Origin-godGale endings, he doesn't try to do that and instead wants his own domain of 'Ambition', which doesn't threaten Mystra and thus allows him to survive and successfully remain a god. I think actually being able to now see him live as a god in either an Origin or Companion playthrough adds a different reason as to why it might be his 'bad' ending. When he was mortal, Gale craved true connections with people and had low self-worth, but growing up as a gifted kid, he thought he had to continue proving himself as an accomplished wizard to earn that love or respect. But focusing too much on his ambitions to prove his worth caused him to push away the friends he already connected with, and even his family (Tara & his mother). Tara tells him she's no longer his friend bc of this, so Origin-godGale has a spell to turn creatures into Tara-lookalikes to pretend she's still by his side. He also has one to make people dance and one to summon ale to reminisce about when he used to hang out with friends at the Yawning Portal. Basically, he thought godhood would solve his problems- but staying mortal would've brought him the genuine connections he craved, so now he's dealing with the isolation his extreme ambition has created. I think his bad ending doesn't have to just end with him dying as Karsus did; this patch shows Gale is smart enough to know not to directly challenge Mystra and completely take control of the Weave as Karsus attempted to do, but his godhood can still have negative consequences in the future.
Gale Ascension drawbacks: 1) Disconnection. The isolation Beccazach mentions is one. In someone else’s playthrough where Gale dies after challenging Mystra, the recording said “to think I thought godhood was worth sacrificing all this [love, friendship, connections]. In someone else’s epilogue where he visits us as a god and Tara is there….He sounds so egotistic that Tara the cat disapproves of us not guiding him better. 2) External strife. Wanting more leads to chaos. Dekarios the Divine, god of ambition, will seek more beyond his station. In someone else’s epilogue, Raphael is powerless & upset that Dekarios won’t give him the Crown of Karsus….but then Raphael comes back in a later epilogue to laugh at us. Because Dekarios will cause such chaos between the gods that Raphael plans to take over what’s left. It’s not hard to imagine him wanting Mystra’s weave for himself, or even challenging Ao in the future. Dekarios didn’t answer us about him having evil and chaos aligned followers. He’s amoral about it, as long as they’re ambitious. 3) Internal dissatisfaction. Dekarios will never be content. It’s a far cry from his human relationship with Tav where he looks so happy and fulfilled. Maybe with that ending he could have ascended to godhood in a different way, far in the future. Using Karsus’ power means he’ll forever be an enemy to Mystra. And ambition alone seems like a lesser domain. If he’ll never be content, I wonder if he’ll have an ambition to have a ‘better’ partner than Tav someday.
Is it a good ending for him to keep depending on Mystra, being her boy toy, or lapdog, and having to serve her to achieve anything? Personally, I see him going off with Mystra or being her chosen as a bad thing as well. At least becoming a god means becoming his own person, even if it means choosing some of the worst aspects of himself. However, ambition isn't a negative thing. He's not the god of conceit, or arrogance. He does inspire others to be their best selves and pursue their dreams. He specifically mentions that he can help lead them in the right direction, nudging them here and there. Blind ambition is bad, but aspiring to be more is how humanity has achieved so much. I don't think it is the best ending for him, but I like that he actually brings Tav along. Tav has suffered so much, and did the right thing in this ending, willing to sacrifice everything to save others. Obviously, I think the best endings for most characters, where they are happiest, are the ones that end more humbly, where they don't chase their ambitions as much, but I don't think this is absolutely horrible. He isn't becoming a truly evil god. At worst, he might be Chaotic Neutral, or perhaps Chaotic Good, depending on how he fosters ambition. Again, just striving to be better and become more than you are currently, isn't evil in and of itself. If some evil people worship him or at least pay homage to him, it doesn't make him evil. Sailors pay homage to Umberlee, but that doesn't mean they follow her or match her alignment.
Can confirm just beat the game with this play through, i encouraged gale to usurp the weave from mystra & i got him the book of karsus (supported his ambitions) and he is alive and present as the God of Ambition & offered my durge a seat alongside him, I know the game is done now but i’ve been waiting on writing an elaborate backstory based on the scarlet witch and ending with her metaphysically destroying bhaals throne of blood and reforming it into a tree of Life and Death; Bhaal was her Cthon and her fate but now she has broken away to become a goddess of Destiny, Chaos & Rebirth. and she proves to be an anchor to the God of Ambition, Siphoning his divinity through the infinite branches of life and death that make up all the life she strives to safeguard; For what good is a God of Death that does not appreciate the intricacies of Life. She Strives to be her Father’s opposite, and she has the scribe of the end of everything as her advocate. Since the beginning it was the destiny she had strived towards, even if she hadn’t yet known it, for even in the darkest moments she had a glimmer of Hope for a brighter future, a future emancipated from the God Of Murder; In all of their travels they have become not just the Heart of the gate, but that of fate itself. Some companions persist on with the memories of the Scarlet Sorceress, following destiny towards their greatest ambitions; while some ever still have a greater connection to their friend/Goddess beyond the planes, given extra aid and inspiration in the pursuit of their ambitions and the following of a path of their own forging. Even as a tidbit my character has always had a red yggdrasil tattooed on their face, with her sacrifice every individual she has wished to help has become her roots for a new purpose of being; Through herself do the infinite roots weave and grow through her: the trunk. Its through her that those otherwise dead roots find circulation and life, through the heart of the gate/Tôril, and it’s at the end of the trunk where she relinquishes authority if the endless tide of fate; From there she allows branches to grow in any and all directions, each branch signifying a thread of destiny: a path in which an individual may walk. These branches will forever grow in separate directions but they’re all anchored to one trunk of life, through that point of origination; no matter how far a branch diverges eventually it will connect with the others: and with it Leaves of opportunity, seeds of rebirth. Where the leaves and branches all meet & connect they form purple fruit contained of pure potential and ambition; a chance at renewal & the culmination of a path walked. From the Dead crimson black roots arise and weave into an ever flowing Scarlet/red consistent solidified trunk, weaving life into a singular connected path and then allowing each infinitesimal strain to branch out in any in-numerable direction; the branches meet and so grows the blue leaves of a connected ambition & the Purple fruit that signifies the pure potential and nascent power formed from the weave. allowing freewill and giving mortals the chance to forge a path of their own choosing. To be a true lady of Death itself is to give the agency of mortals to walk their own path of life, to find the true meaning of existence & to find a satisfaction/personal growth in that life; For all blood eventually returns to the tree of Life & death, but death itself is no mere end. It is but a new beginning that Shepards the creation of new life/branches And With herself (Aurora Astrea/Scarlet Sorceress) out of the mortal equation she poses no risk of siring any new Bhaalspawn at her own hand (As it is evident narrator states even being free you can still pass on the tainted seed if Bhaal) , A last selfless act of Sacrifice to undo all the damage she had wrought in her previous life, a last act of defiance against her emancipated Father & and attempt to forge a livable future, To destroy the corrupted divine sphere of murder and turn it into a Neutral force of nature that Death is supposed to be. For each single life is of infinite value & therefore merits sacrificing everything for.

Okay, sir forgive my rambling, but I must say this to get it off my chest. I have Three Dark Urge Characters. All of them are canonically siblings/triplets, and each represent something that Made Baal Special. The Hand is a Paladin OathBreaker/Warlock Undead, and represents Bhaals Murders intent and rage, they romance either Karlach or Minthara (in cannon they romance both). The Tounge, represents Bhaals Charisma (I mean he had to have kids somehow), They are a Storm Sorceror/Swords Bard (they romance both Shadowheart and Halsin). And then The Mind represents Bhaals Intellegince and scheming nature, they are an Illusion Wizard/Assassin Rouge, and they romance Gale. Because of the minds Gale romance, those three send to Godhood, and take it upon themselves to get revenge on Bhaal. They split there fathers Portpholio three ways, The Hand Takes Murder, Assassins, and Betrayal. She takes the Murder domain of murder as essentially transforms it to be the act of taking life in general (ie, hunting, cutting out weeds, mercy killings, ect) and takes the Betrayal domain and turns it into the act of being betrayed. The Tongue takes the domain of ritual sacrifice, Deception, and Stealth. And The Mind takes the Domain of Schemes, Planing, and Mystery.
Is that it? Or is there more that your not sharing because you don't want to spoil it?! I romanced with Gale, but I didn't let him be a God.....I thought he would leave me for sure if I allowed him. He was my favorite character to romance with in any and all romance video games! He's so sweet, and he cares about you not just mentally/physically, but spiritually as well and that's what got me to fall in love with him. He's more romantic than the rest of the men in BG3, or even in other video games such as Dragon Age 2. If I didn't have a husband, Gale would be posted on my wall and I'd have a plushie of him or something to show that I'm on Team Gale! Btw a lot of romance games are hard for me to get into because there are so many of the stereotypes men that every girl goes for, but Gale is a rare one of a kind.
Absolutely. Ascended Astarion is just evil. I wouldn't recognize a thing about the old astarion. You noticed after 3 seconds. And it's the shittiest thing you could ever do to him. Somehow I knew I could let gale become a god. He's still gale. No difference. You can even kiss and hug him. Both not possible in the camp ending with the crazy vampire lord. He's so shitty I think it may be cazador having a plan b and he somehow made a soul transfer. And it's not only cazador it's his former master too. Forgot the name. You see it in every scene. He made karlach cry, that alone would be a death sentence from me. He said he's watching and threatening you and with a threatening face. Just a few of many examples. @@elenalizabeth some people told me that I do that. But I think gale is okay. And normal astarion too. I think I can differ normal trauma responses which can heal or gales normal goofy behaving and eben gale as God from real dangerous creatures like a vampire lord.
I do like both, obviously Ascended Astarion is a shitty person while God Gale is still Gale, maybe a little more arrogant since he didn't get the "you are enough" route, making his low self esteem arrogance into actual "oh lol Im a god so I'm better" arrogance, and to be honest they didn't make even very arrogant, just a little. However, the only reason why I prefer him over Ascended Astarion is because 1) becoming a god is cooler than becoming a stronger whole Vampire 2) he still loves Tav and makes them see what Mystra would never show him, because he sees Tav as equal even being a God and Mystra never did. Which is funny, because Gale was a prodigy, and Tav is just a nobody.

There must always be consequences to actions.
What about the god of promises? Promises and ambition go hand in hand, and given Tav's attitude to getting rid of the tadpol, from the start of the game to the end. I feel like it suits.
There’s a good chance they’ll break up after this. Like what if she gets a domain that’s opposed to his? Or what if she gets tired of divine levels of ego? Nope, this still seems like a bad ending.

If he’ll never be content, I wonder if he’ll have an ambition to have a ‘better’ partner than Tav someday.
my thoughts exactly
Your Tav is so beautiful 🥹🥰
Thank you so much❤️🥰
HOLY MACKERL HE BECAME ZEUS 😮❤
So... He became a tyrannical rаpist? That's fucked up...
@@ВладиславБулаев-л3эI think they meant he looks like typical depictions of a younger Zeus 😂
Its through her that those otherwise dead roots find circulation and life, through the heart of the gate/Tôril,
and it’s at the end of the trunk where she relinquishes authority if the endless tide of fate;
From there she allows branches to grow in any and all directions, each branch signifying a thread of destiny: a path in which an individual may walk.
To be a true lady of Death itself is to give the agency of mortals to walk their own path of life, to find the true meaning of existence & to find a satisfaction/personal growth in that life;
For all blood eventually returns to the tree of Life & death, but death itself is no mere end.
It is but a new beginning that Shepards the creation of new life/branches
And With herself (Aurora Astrea/Scarlet Sorceress) out of the mortal equation she poses no risk of siring any new Bhaalspawn at her own hand (As it is evident narrator states even being free you can still pass on the tainted seed if Bhaal) ,
A last selfless act of Sacrifice to undo all the damage she had wrought in her previous life, a last act of defiance against her emancipated Father & and attempt to forge a livable future, To destroy the corrupted divine sphere of murder and turn it into a Neutral force of nature that Death is supposed to be.
For each single life is of infinite value & therefore merits sacrificing everything for.
How do you trigger this ending? My Tav romanced Gale, gave him Karsus journal and encouraged him to take the crown. This doesn't trigger when I talk to him.
Now I kind of want to do this option on my bard... I feel like she would become a goddess of joy and inspiration for Drow that spurn Lolth.
That's a beautiful headcanon for a Drow bard!
i feel like god gale is going to be canon..
Would be cool! Still prefer his "good route"
Kinda doubt it. WotC likely won't wanna deal with the large scale implications of a second weave.
@@goji253 I doubt it too but you can never know, maybe it was their idea ahaha
There is a bit with Raphael talking after which confirms it’s a bad ending. Basically he says his meddling is going to mess up the world in the future.
@@crimsonroseRaphael is coping, he says it's good for him too in the long term if you give the crown to Mystra. He is just too in love with himself to admit he lost.
Can We just say his ending is probs the most wholesome. X3 AHHHHH
If i have to choose my end: Neutral goddess of life and adventure
or if you want to help withers cuz withers be best friend:
Goddess of Reapers and guide to the afterlife xP
i honestly regret having the companion mod for my first playthough but i really want to experience all the shit then i found out that you cant because the mod is not that advance probably because its too much work like a weeks or months i want him to ascend but it did not let me but im going to do that in another playthough hopefully
...Shit. I mean, fuck, Mystra, right?
I was on her side until they added all this!
Thank the gods you're not on her side anymore, Mystra if I catch you Mystra
Btw a lot of romance games are hard for me to get into because there are so many of the stereotypes men that every girl goes for, but Gale is a rare one of a kind.
a silly thought of mine but what if ur playing as ascended astarion would he have this option? more power more fun?
Oh yes, anyone can ascend to godhood with Gale! Even full illithids, which is a bit weird if you tell me lol
Can a Durge that accepts Bhaal become a god aswell? Or is it good Durge/Tav exclusive?
THIS alone makes Gale better that Ascended Astarion
nah both are cool, even better, romance ascended astarion with god gale
Everyone saying ascended Astarion is remotely acceptable is completely delulu.
@@Danileptic apparently red flags are just their favourite clothing on a man 😂😂
@@elenalizabeth some people told me that I do that.
HOW do you get this ending???? in my romance run i did with him he ascended and pretty much told me to fuck off OTL
Shouldn't Gale fall by Mystra's hand?
They changed it with patch 5! He still falls, but only with specific choices
HHNNNNGGGGG I DONT KNOW WHAT TO CHOOSE marry Gale and remain mortal together, or ascend to gods and keep his ego in check lol
Both, both is good! That's why we have saves!
How do you get this without him dying? I encouraged him to take the crown and in the epilogue he was dead
It's a new thing from patch 5!
I was wondering if you can romanxe Gale as a god!
It's a new thing tho, before patch 5 he would have died instantly if he tried to become a god
Wow, so this ending makes it possible for both Origin Lae'zel and Origin Karlach to ascend to godhood.
Quite insane, if you ask me...
just inspired me to do an Origin Karlach playthrough and romance Gale now just for this. She deserves to be happy
Eryn your viewers deserve the journalistic integrity only I could uncover and deliver- that in fact you weren't not with Gale shooting in the gym. You wanted to keep him in loafers, the prodigal professor grading papers in all his corporeal dad bod glory. You don't deserve him, Shadowheart does
I am so confused 😂
@@Chiaeryn were* not with Gale, you never wanted him to ascend become a high value male/diety! It brought you glee when you believed him to be eviscerated by Mystra! I have the receipts!
idk why i didnt get this option at the end and i am annoyed at it honestly.
While it's not the best ending for him; it's still very pretty. I like to think my Tav became the Goddess of Consequences to balance out Gale's being the God of Ambition; so while Gale will grant aid to his followers without question, my Tav will determine if those same followers deserve fullfillment or punishment for that same ambition.
There must always be consequences to actions.
How does Tara react to this? Is she still upset?
What about the god of promises? Promises and ambition go hand in hand, and given Tav's attitude to getting rid of the tadpol, from the start of the game to the end. I feel like it suits.
ok i romanced gale and supported him being a god but this choice wasnt offered. how did u?
It's probably because you did it before patch 5, this cutscene became available just recently!
@@ChiaerynNo this happened to me to on the current patch.
You’re not alone, in the epilogue he didn’t give me this scene either. I was very sad, I did the entire game for this scene.
does this end the game or can you talk to companions after
It ends the game unfortunately!
There’s a good chance they’ll break up after this. Like what if she gets a domain that’s opposed to his? Or what if she gets tired of divine levels of ego? Nope, this still seems like a bad ending.
How he becomes a god? I want him to be god but not challenge Mystra.
Wait i don't understand the mechanics of godhood, For Gale, i understand he was able to ascend because of his advantage with the crown and all that netheril magic nonsense, but how did he manage to ascend you too? Is it really that easy to become a god? Other gods can just literally pick some random guy to become a god? Wtf?
Question to other men:
How do you role play as a woman and romance male characters?
Too Immersion breaking.
While I appreciate the ending, I can't help but be a little annoyed at the liberties Larian takes with Forgotten Realms lore in this regard.
Gale has absolutely no power nor say in making someone else a god. It's not up to him.
