In what way would you consider it competitive with M-LOK? Sure, there WERE more options for KeyMod... but this is the middle of 2019. Have you experienced M-LOC yet?
I have rifles with both M-LOK and KeyMod, and I like both system quite well. There is STILL more KeyMod accessories, out in the market, than M-LOK. I know this because I have been looking for certain items for my rifle that uses M-LOK, and I can only find these in KeyMod. From personal experience, I learned that it is much easier to mount a KeyMod accessory in dark conditions, where one has to mount it by feel, than to mount the M-LOK accessories under the same conditions. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying one is system is absolutely better than the other system. I am glad that both systems are out here, and I am glad that almost every manufacturer of rail accessories make good accessories for both systems. The Picatinny rail system has been with us the longest, and it is the strongest of these 3 systems. The industry has made just about everything for the Picatinny rail. The manufacturers that make KeyMod and M-LOK accessories, all make Picatinny rail sections that mount to whatever rail system they manufacture. That is because there are tons of accessories out here that still mount to the Picatinny rails. We are all aware of the tests that were conducted on these three rail systems, and we know that the tests show that the Picatinny rail is best overall (it is just heavier and bulkier than we like), the M-LOK came in 2nd, and the KeyMod was last. We also know that the KeyMod rail system has been proven in combat for many deployments, and it has many followers. Right now, there are many rail systems still being used in the field. We also know that the US military is apt to standardize the rail system(s) it uses, and it will likely be M-LOK that wins the nod, although Picatinny is likely to remain. The reason these new rail systems came about in the first place is that Picatinny rails are heavy and bulky. They are also stronger than most anything in common use.
