I love your finds~ So cool to find a fellow sewist who is not adverse to polyester. Most of my favourite seamstresses are, but I have found that every time I wear a polyester dress, it wears fine and I love the flow. Also it's so adorable that you're making all these baby clothes for your friends. I love making baby clothes - they use so little fabric!
Those Stoff and Still fabrics are AMAZING. The wee outfit you made looks great. Those tops are super useful as that neckline means you can take it off baby down over their body and not over their heads, containing any poo-splosions and not smearing it over their wee face!
It is so fun to make baby clothes. I had scrapes of fabric from a skirt I made that I was able to make a 3-6 outfit- SOI Daffodil dress and pants. Love your makes and fabrics.
Love all the fabrics 😍 I never thought to make baby clothes however if you think about how much you can squeeze out of such little fabric it seems like I missed out on an economical idea! One thing I did find with a baby was that tops with the envelope neck band were quite handy in messy situations. Instead of having to pull a messy top and get it all over the baby's face and hair you can just wiggle it down and take it off that way. Just an added bonus but not a necessity or deal breaker. Look forward to seeing the finished makes ☺️
Thanks! Yes I agree I think that, although the neckline is fiddly, it will be worth it in the end :) Definitely makes it more practical as well as adorable!
A baby capsule wardrobe :-) I always loved making children's clothing. They're so cute, mistakes don't show cause they're so small and they're so quick to make. Making matching booties would be cute.
Hi Rosa, gorgeous fabric, I thought you might like the ruffle skirt pattern Simplicity 8606, however if you already have a ruffle dress or skirt pattern, you could double the width of the ruffle, fold it over and then sew it so that you can't see the back of the fabric. With the baby top that you made, the shoulder seams are perfect for getting the top over their heads, they are designed to stretch over their heads and don't require buttons or other fastenings which would be uncomfortable (and possibly dangerous) for the baby. They look quite fiddly to make, but they are very practical and super, super cute. You're doing a great job on the baby clothes and all of those fabrics are perfect together. Well done.
That's a really good idea for the frills, thank you. I agree on the little lapped neckline, although it's fiddly I think it will be worth it in the long run so it will get good use and be practical.
Great fabric. Just found out I am going to be a grandma for the first time, and I love the "baby" prints - and the mix and match is a such great idea. I'm excited to get started making baby clothes. . . . Kind of off the subject, hope I am not overstepping, but is that an engagement ring...
Congratulations! I hope you enjoy making some lovely baby goodies! And you are not overstepping, that is indeed an engagement ring :) I'm getting married in August yay!
Lovely colours and fabrics. I think the neckband is like that so the top can be taken off by sliding it down over the body instead of up over the head which is trickier with small babies. I think that's why babygros are so popular - easier to dress the baby! I think you should do a twin outfits video with Harriet when you have both sewed up your fabrics!! :)
For your fabrics any of the sewoverit patterns would look good. The neckline on the baby top is an envelope neckline They're good for babies as their heads are large and their necks small in proportion to their bodies,it means they slip easily over the head but fit the neck. For bottoms poppers are good on the inside leg as they allow you to change nappies with ease. Is there a reason you've decided to make baby clothes? The important thing is that the seams don't hurt and any closures are comfortable to lay on.I think some would look lovely as dresses with trousers underneath. Loved the prints.
Thanks so much for the tips! I was thinking of putting poppers on the trousers but all the ready to wear ones I've looked at don't have them. I think they usually have them on baby grows for sure. I am making them as presents for my friends so I am trying to make them perfect! :)
Hi Rosa, good to hear that you had a great time with Harriet and I have seen Harriet's haul 👍. You have some lovely fabrics and I'm sure that you'll do them justice 😉. Stoff and Still have some gorgeous jerseys for babies and children and so hard to resist 💞. I have made some of the Brindle and Twig patterns and they came out great and were simple to make. The Edgy Tee is so cute and I made the hoodie and yoga pants....they are lovely, so I would recommend them 👍 😍. Higgs and Higgs have some lovely children's jerseys too 👌. Enjoy your sewing Rosa and looking forward to seeing your makes 😁😘
Aw thank you, we had such a fun time together! I adore Stof and Stil, and I'm definitely tempted by some of those Brindle and Twig patterns- so much cuteness!
The shoulders on the top are designed to pull down over the babies shoulders when they get dirty if their nappy leaks. Then you’re not pulling a dirty shirt over the babies face.
I was always someone who did not want kids because I thought I'd make an awful mother. But recently I discovered that MAYBE having a little family will not ne too bad. So I started to make baby clothes from all the scraps I have left over and completely fell in love with making baby clothes. I will definitely try this pattern, the jumper is gorgeous! I already have this huge, secret basket of baby clothes for my (probably never existing) little one but I think that once it happens, you can never have enough changing clothes, can you?
Of course you wouldn't be an awful mother! It's such a personal choice deciding to have children or not- you should just do what's right for you. I'm sure your basket of clothes are gorgeous. You can definitely never have enough changes as they get in such a mess! x
Wow those baby fabrics are gorgeous! You just can't get that good quality here in Australia as easily, I have friends who are having kids and I really want to make all the gifts!! For the fabrics you bought for yourself, I love the idea of making the culottes into a jumpsuit, if you have enough fabric I feel like you'll get so much wear out of them! They're chic. And the white print with strawberries - I just love the idea of a shirt because then you could wear it with jeans, even on top of said culotte/jumpsuit! And wouldn't you have enough to make a shirt and a skirt? You always seem to get way more out of the fabric than seems humanly possible!!
Thank you, I would really recommend Stof and Stil and I'm sure they ship to Australia. It's worth checking their website. I really agree with you on the jumpsuit idea. I will share It as soon as I finish it! x
You probably already know this, but the lapped shoulder is designed to make it easier to go over baby's head. Also, you don't have to insert snaps with a lapped shoulder. You did a fantastic job on that little outfit!
Aw thank you! I was trying to avoid snaps as I'm a little paranoid about them falling off. I really like the look of the lapped shoulders I think I'll stick with it and I'm sure it'll get easier with practise x
What temperature did you wash the baby jerseys at? I would normally wash at 30 or 40 but don’t know if baby clothes get washed higher, considering what they end up covered in!
if you have enough of the red polka dot fabric, Sian from kittenish behaviour recently made a ruffle dress but cut double the amount of ruffles and sewed them wrong sides together so they were double sided, just a thought if you wanted to make a ruffle dress out of that fabric :)
Ive been watching your videos for a while now, even some of the older videos, and I just love all of your makes and fabric selections. I was just pondering , but how many dresses do you have so far?
Aw thank you so much. I've got quite a few haha! I have given some to charity if I feel they aren't my style any more, but I've got some pieces I've made 10 years ago as I still love them lol!
Loved your video. Polka Dots are my favorite fabrics to buy. Love that you went shopping with Harriet as well. I'm coming over from Oregon (USA) for the two big events in November (Sewcialite Soiree' on November 10th and Stitcher's Social on November 17th). Claire from Beautiful Things and I are going to Gold Hawk Road! Sounds like the fabric shop in Waltham Stowe (Do I have that right?) is around the same area and I'm loving the price and selection that you found there. I'll be buying a Brit Rail & Oyster Card for a month so please let me know what the tube stop is if you remember! Hope to meet you and Harriet at one of the events. Your T-shirt and Cleo Pinafore are perfection on you. I would use any of your drapey fabrics with several of Lisa Comfort's Sew Over It Dresses. I just finished the Lea Dress and it would be a good choice. I love sewing for babies and little girls too!
That sounds like an awesome trip! Walthamstow is the other side of London but you can get there on the tube fairly quickly, and it's definitely worth the effort :) I hope you love London! x
Ah I'm really glad! It's actually my boyfriend's camera that I'm borrowing so I'm not sure what it is, but It's good one! Definitely better than my iPhone haha

I am expecting a grandchild in February & these adorable fabrics you have selected have truly inspired me to get busy sewing for him/her. Thank you!
Congratulations! I hope you have lots of fun making lovely little clothes- it's addictive!

Oooo I love the idea of booties! So adorable
Gorgeous fabrics. Can't wait to see the finished items. So cute.
Thank you! :)

Thanks! Yes I thought that was why they had that neckline- it's so cute, but just a bit fiddly to sew. I second the twin outfit idea ;)
The pants and the tops are very practicle for a baby. Cute fabrics too.The receiver of your gift, will be pleased with them.
Aw thank you :)
Lovely fabrics! What cute little baby outfits! Those are great gift ideas too!
Thank you! They are so much fun to work on :)

Those baby fabrics are ❤️ and sewing mini clothes is addictive. I think the black poly would look great as a Myosotis dress 😊
I love the look of the Myosotis dress, its lovely!
Cute fabrics. You could make matching bibs too. They are always useful.
Cute idea- thanks! I'll look into it x
Lovely fabric. Your going to have fun sewing baby garments. Waiting to see what you make for yourself. Have fun sewing, later.
I can't wait! Will share them as soon as they're ready :)

I thought that might have been why!
Looking forward to seeing all your makes. Lovely choice of fabrics.

That's a very good point! I washed them with our towels at 40

The colour you have on with your hair colouring really suits you....
Aw thank you :)
Hi Rosa, what was the shop/shall you got all those from at Walthamstow. I have a trip planned and have never been!
I go to lots of different ones along the road. These are from one called Fabric Store.
Such lovely baby clothes! Did you use an overlocker or a regular sewing machine?
Thank you! I used my regular sewing machine and trimmed all the seams down so they are soft and comfortable.
For the red fabric you could double layer the fabric (wrong sides together) to make the frills.
That's a really good idea thanks :)
Hello :) I was wondering what the name of the market was - I couldn't quite catch that. Thanks!
Sorry- Walthamstow Market
Thank you so much. Will definitely visit it next time I'm in London :)
I love it as always! I can really tell a difference in the camera quality. Which camera did you switch to?
Ah I'm really glad! It's actually my boyfriend's camera that I'm borrowing so I'm not sure what it is, but It's good one! Definitely better than my iPhone haha
Great baby fabrics
Thanks :)
Where did you blog and Insta go?
They are still there, sorry I just forgot to share the link:
