I've listened to this piece throughout my life since childhood and every time I return, I discover an infinity of universes within. Bach was of another level that we humans cannot fully grasp.
It is a marvel. Supremely expressive, and a rhythmic vitality that elevates the interpretation to a practically divine level. Lovely sound of the instrument as well! Having been the recording person at the Yale Collection of Musical Instruments for 30 years I have heard many - many! harpsichord performances and there is no doubt Marco Mencoboni sits up there on Olympus at the right hand of Apollo! Brilliant performer.
Totally agree. Mencoboni is not the best, because he is imcomparable, unique. Nobody has his art, passion and sensitivity, a marvel of expression. We love Mercoboni!!😍😍🥰🥰
Unglaublich diese Interpretation; just perfect! Gracie Mr. Mencoboni, salute! :)
The spaces between notes, even in fast sweeping passages, are so critical to baroque interpretation and he executed them so perfectly. The piece feels like it is alive and breathing with such an articulate expression. Bravissimo!
I totally sympathize with the 16th-note inegal technique after entering the overture three beats. I felt like I was hearing the original performance of this piece for the first time.
Why is he so good and I never heard of this artist before? Usually don’t care for harpsichord but his sound is sooo colorful and 3 dimensional! And the rhythm!! Wow!!
FAr far far FAR superior to Kipnis - whose recordings were super super edited and spliced....... I knew Kipnis pretty well (as a harpsichord maker) and I know Marco's playing pretty well too :) - you might say he is the "Dean" of harpsichordists in Italy - and as Peter Ustinov used to say, "perhaps in all of Europe" :) You will note that Marco's playing here is live - !!!!!!!
Outside of the evidence he's a natural and rare talent, he studied with the greatest. Aeons above Kipnis, on par with the very best - Leonhardt, Gilbert, Ross, Pinnock, Koopman; with honorable mention to Rousset, Staier, Tilney, Dantone and Rondeau
The music and the sound in that room of thew Palazzo really transports you back to Bach's time. Bravo Marco Mencoboni, such a wonderful rendition of this work.
Wandering through the UA-cam wasteland I discovered this. How is it that something like this can produce both light and cooling shade? It's so wonderful for Bach's music to find such expression through you. Thank you very much.
Without a doubt one of the most successful and beautiful interpretations that I have heard of this work, wonderful phrasing and absolute and correct freedom. The instrument is exquisite. Bravo.
Classical Music's Enduring Allure. 🎶🕰 Whether it's the soothing notes of a sonata or the grandeur of a symphony, classical music has an unmatched ability to captivate the heart and mind.
This performance is now the best interpretation of this work I have heard. The articulations and exceptional quality of the many thoughtful ornamentations effortlessly executed makes this an exceptional performance. The well rounded and pleasant sound of the instrument a delight. Bravo!
Such an inspiring performance on every level. I have listened to and watched this recording over and over as I am preparing this piece, and you re-inspire me every time with new insight into Bach's profound and beautiful sound world. Thank you, Sig. Mencoboni, for this masterful recording!
Marco Mencoboni is simply the most fabulous musician. Harpsichord purists will doubtless raise their eyebrows at the way the keys are hammered and pounded (how did no plectra get broken during this recording?!), but the verve, the forward sweep, the sheer excitement of the music-making is electrifying. I'll always listen to Mencoboni playing ANYTHING, again and again. What a genius.
Bravo! I like the careful way(s) you free your interpretation from the 'Bachi-restrictions' without 'hurting' his inner massive building, and the careful silent moments (their duration) between (and after) the chapters. Thanks a lot for this fine upload. By the way, if I may ask - is Riccardo Mencoboni (sound) your brother? and, is Assessorato alla Bellezza refers to "fine arts"?
Both are marvellous, I agree. This video is an exciting discovery. Nature of great music is that it can withstand many interpretations. I’ve also enjoyed Sokolov and Weissenberg ( very good in the bouree) .
Lovely playing but pity about the acoustics. There is so much reverberation to nearly distort the real sound. A few curtains or hanging tapestries here and there would have solved the problem to some extent.
Not only is he not blind, they have an absolute and beautiful clairvoyance. A mervellous artist, full of beauty and inmense artistic true. An incomparable genius. I love Mercoboni!😘😘😘
I like how he´s just sitting in a regular garden chair
Very undignified, but whatever
You can hear an orchestra if you listen close enough - Stunning!!!

Oh my , I like Mencoboni´s performances so much.
How can it be more and more beautiful every time I listen to it? What an inspiration, Signore Marco - !!!!!
Why is he so good and I never heard of this artist before? Usually don’t care for harpsichord but his sound is sooo colorful and 3 dimensional! And the rhythm!! Wow!!
Who IS this guy?! This is one of the greatest interpretations ever. Blown away. Dare I say, on par with Kipnis!
I just falled in love with this person, right today !

Un claveciniste extraordinaire.
Che meraviglia!!! Grandiosa interpretazione!!
Your performance is simply spectacular. I admire that you've got the whole work memorized---I would love to do what you do, one day.
The music and the sound in that room of thew Palazzo really transports you back to Bach's time. Bravo Marco Mencoboni, such a wonderful rendition of this work.
Quelle merveille !! Cette interprétation est fabuleuse, unique !!!
Che meraviglia! Bravissimo maestro Mencoboni; divino J.S.Bach.
mencoboni lifts up the work of Bach to a level not known before. SUPERB performance.

He’s swingin’!
just wonderfull, almost mystic. Perfect in any way! 🎀🎀 B R A V O!!🎀🎀
and what a wonderful instrument, nice sounding, beautifully crafted!
Simplicite, clarte, la musique pure...
Without a doubt one of the most successful and beautiful interpretations that I have heard of this work, wonderful phrasing and absolute and correct freedom. The instrument is exquisite. Bravo.
Excellent!
That Passepied though, what an incredibly nice piece of music!

Listening to this piece played well is about the closest we can get to heaven on Earth, absolutely magical playing.
Esecuzione splendida e brillante!
Meraviglioso, grazie Marco!
Sublime music, sublime performance, sublime instrument.
Magnificent performance.

Best interpretation
Not many words to say. Simply: Bravo e Grazie caro amico!
Excellent, thank you very much !!!
Bravíssimo! O último movimento "Echo" é arrebatador!
Genius interpretation played on a beautifully sonorous harpsichord. What a joy to hear this!
Again fantastic! But still better is your pasta tonno-recipe
Bravissimo!!!! Completely channeling the very essence of Bach's conception and beauty! Magnificent!
Like the others present in this channel, this is an incredible interpretation, the world definitely needs more of this beauty!
Wonderfull, extra, super excellent!
Fantastic rhytmic, strong and elegant. GRACIE Signore Mencoboni. :p

wolkowy1 thanks a lot for all your comments. Yes Riccardo is one of my brothers and the assessorato alla bellezza is fine arts/ culture. Ciao
Quelle présence, merci bien!
Man's hands and mind are wonderous to behold.
He is great
Masterpiece! excellent playd, gracie
is there strictly audio available of this anywhere / in any format ?
What a beautiful piece!
You are beautiful.
Andras Schiff at the piano, and Marco Mencoboni at the harpsichord. What else?
Both are marvellous, I agree. This video is an exciting discovery.
Nature of great music is that it can withstand many interpretations. I’ve also enjoyed Sokolov and Weissenberg ( very good in the bouree) .
Superb!
I forgot to listen to the song ,when watching his playing & concentration with closing eyes
suono glorioso!!!
genial!
Where did this harpsichord come from?
Bruce Kennedy!
Sounds absolutely beautiful, full, the overtones and the balance between the Basso and the Discanto are astonishing! Very nicely played! Bravissimo!
Hmmm...l see you’re not the real Beethoven…
Fantastic
This tuning is quite unfamilliar to me, it is obviously not A=415Hz. Can I know what is the tune applied on this performance?
Look the video until the end please
It is Baroque French Tuning, A=392Hz.
3:56
Am I wrong or he is playing with the “Mano Frescobaldiana”?
Lovely playing but pity about the acoustics. There is so much reverberation to nearly distort the real sound. A few curtains or hanging tapestries here and there would have solved the problem to some extent.
30:00 !!!!
The melodics are lost in the Ouverture.
