Never really knew how important actually feeling the weight in your hands meant until watching Mike's content.. press, pull, and curl, I always try to be aware how the weight feels in my hand during my set, cause slightest change can effect the contraction at the end of the rep.

Mike you've completely changed the way that I use ANY equipment and for the better. This video is great… I had been pyramiding the smith machine and pushing my weight and noticed my chest was not Sore even after 8 sets of flat bench. Switched to a hammer machine bench- lower weight- deeper contraction and would hold the weight for 5 seconds and tense up thee chest as I held …next day chest was very sore and felt the burn. No one at the gym will fool with the bench press machines..but I got great results. Thank you!!!

Very well explained, I’ve been benching like this for years and everyone always asks why I bend my wrist backwards. This is the most natural and comfortable position. No pressure on your wrist if you are doing it correctly. Good content

Over the last 9-10 months, Mike has been a breath of fresh air on UA-cam and Instagram. People needed to hear the things he's said in his videos and many listened and Mike brought them back down to earth. Many have changed the way they think about training and the way that they approach exercises.
Some are too scared to admit that Mike is right and hate on him. The truth hurts. I'm sure I've watched every video on this channel now.

  • @Shreadington

Mike, THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I SAY! You read my mind! I'd rather look like I can bench 4 plates than actually doing it.
The grip changed everything for me. In Jr High the Power lifting Coach showed us the "suicide grip" along with dropping the elbows for bench. That immediately had all of us pushing more weight successfully. Been using it ever since. Keep up the great content!

I benched with wrong technique for years and would flare my elbows with a straight wrist. Now after 20+ years of training my right arm doesn’t fully extend due to injuries. Years ago I had to learn how to bench properly as demonstrated here. Yes, my max weight in bench has decreased but my chest development has been phenomenal

    • @Pharoe29

Like he says, it’s about Bodybuilding and developing the muscle. 95% of people in the gym are just moving weight and getting nowhere.

Fuck this guy is brutally honest and I love it. Mike has always said he shows techniques that works for him. Exercises that work for him. What I don't get is how some ppl are going to critique Mike on his own personal style which obviously works and has worked for him. We need more like Big Mike in this world, dudes and chick's who aren't afraid to hurt feelings by telling facts and truths.

@@MikeVanWyck Everything that I've implemented watching your content has 100% worked for me as well. I really hate that I am an observer when I am resting bc it kills me to see ppl risking injury, using to much weight, using bad form, using way to much momentum or 'body English' to get a lift up and then brag about it on their socials. Anyways always look forward to seeing a Wycked training video or an epic Big Mike Rant.

I started training 2 years ago.. mostly to loose weight. Was 250, I'm down to a pretty lean and muscular 180 now. I've had 2 different trainers and while they did help.. The stuff Mike is saying in these videos has made me make more gains in the last two months than I had in the last two years. It's ABSURD that this is the only person I've heard any advice like this from when all I've done for two years now is obsess over body building and fitness.

6:15 that's totally true for me, outer pecs and massive shoulders.
I've always been advised my trainers and other gym goers to avoid this form of gripping calling it a "suicide grip". I've experienced in the past that this monkey grip helps to connect with the chest better, but was scared to actually use it on a regular basis.
