The PS2 version is probably the worst port, it has 30 fps with constant drops, low draw distance, long and choppy load times, glitches, swaps circle and cross buttons outside Japan, lame sound, clunky controls(IDK), and mild technical issues. Still at best this port is still playable like Sonic 4 Episode 1 did on iOs/Android version and unlike Sonic 1 Genesis (GBA).
@@mizzix Actually, the PS2 version has even more glitches that are not present in the Nintendo GameCube and Xbox versions (Especially the GameCube one)
I had the PS2 version and I got no problems with it. I know everyone has his one opinion..But we shouldn't give that game too much hate (and sry for my bad english XD I'm from Germany)
During that year in 2003, my parents first got me this for PS2 from Blockbuster, sent it back (sadly), and then a few years later, I got to replay it on the GameCube (which I still own.)
@niggerbait At raw power PS2 is underpowered against the other two, but the biggest issue is not lack of power - PS2 is extremely complex and hard to code for. That means, on top of being underpowered, it's too hard to extract the max potential of the console. But, some games did, and when you extract it's maximum potential, PS2 games actually can look equal to Xbox, that have almost double the power of PS2. It's the same of PS3. Sony intentionally developed both PS2 and PS3 with a extermely complex architecture, so lame devs would produce lame games, and good devs could produce quality games. But coding on PS2 and PS3 was super hard, and producing top quality games required a lot of time and work. The idea of Sony was to grab everyone's attention and since the developtment of their console is hard, it would discourage other devs to port their games for other platforms like PC/Xbox/GC~Wii, since they were leading so they should be the primary platform to code for, and, on top of the hard initial coding process for ps2, porting it over to other consoles would be another extra hard work. It worked for Ps2, since it had no competition, but surely failed on PS3. That's why the PS4 is a super simple machine, not much different than a low end PC.
Never seen the PS2 version before, but I always assumed it ran at 60fps... After all that was the framerate I remember on Sonic Riders for the same console.
This game in particular wouldn't have existed if it wasn't for the PS2. Sony was pissed off that Sonic Heroes wasn't going to be on the PlayStation so they threatened Sega that if they didn't release it on the PS2, they wouldn't be able to sell another Sonic game on the PS2. The PS2 was the winning console against it's competitors at the time so it was a huge deal.
This is why I will always have a negative feeling towards sega games being on Sony... it has never felt right at all. Sonic on Xbox on the other hand. Feels like it was meant to be. Xbox and Sega especially when it comes to Sonic games, was and always will be the right way to go
Better resolution? It runs at native 640x480, dude. The aspect ratio of the PS2 version is just widened in the video , but they all fit on the TV screen in the same way.
@@dontegraves5051, do you have any source to confirm that or are you just stating anything without being sure about it?, since "Sonic Heroes" is not in the list of games that could be run at 720p on the original Xbox using component cables. 🙄

Everybody is hating on the PS2 version of the game, but the PS2 was the most iconic console in the last decade. This just wasn’t a good port to the PS2.
@@voltaireentertainment Xbox has no flaws when I'm playing on it plus it got hd and My XBOX 360 brings more power out with 1080i and 1080p. Plus I find it better than my Gamecube version.
The characters volume are more higher and I mean I can really hear them when they speak. Volume for everything is also high pitched even when stepping on glass and hearing the footsteps when moving and triangle jump has volume to when touching wall to wall I can hear and I hear torches and fire and motors on robots etc.
I remember playin this game in my old ps2 and I’ve never notice glitches or bad fps, I remember it was the "greatest hit" version of the game and my ps2 was the slim version
I have both the Gamecube and PS2 versions. While the Gamecube version is graphically superior, I still found myself playing the PS2 version more because I prefer the Dual Shock controller over the Gamecube controller. I also like how the PS2 version has the option for me to switch the voice acting between English and Japanese. Both versions are equally good in my opinion.
I have to agree with you. While I do believe that the GameCube version is superior, I prefer the PS2's controller. I don't like how the GameCube controller's left analog stick is above the D-Pad.
I'm so happy I'm currently in the process of getting the GameCube version of Sonic Heroes, I don't have the Xbox/PS2 ports and I don't think my PC copy will even install on my gaming rig.
I first played Sonic Heroes on my PlayStation 2 but I don’t have the game and the console anymore! 😭 But I’m getting for the wii/GameCube so I can play it again! 🤩 This game was also my childhood!
Just ordered an original xbox along with a copy of sonic heroes🙂 This game was my childhood... I can remember playing this on ps2 and getting so mad that I broke my controller😆 Gunna order half life 2, splinter cell double agent and doom 3 next. I already have combat evolved, halo 2, morrowind, fable, knights of the old republic 1&2 and soul caliber 2, so no need to order those🙂
To the best of my knowledge, the Xbox version was running 720p. Other than that, the Gamecube and Xbox versions were on par. The PS2 version was a mess of a game, for a game that already controlled rather clunky and had strangely odd stage design more often than not. Sonic Team admitted later that they had little to no experience with Playstation 2's architecture. Based on the fact that Sonic Adventure stayed Nintendo only and every sonic game until Unleashed plays and runs abysmally on PS2, they weren't lying.
Here's what I can deter from here: The PS2 version runs at 30 FPS and has the worst sound quality. The GameCube and Xbox versions run at 60 FPS, and have the best sound quality. However, the Xbox version has slight slowdown issues. From my personal experience, the Xbox version seems to load faster than the GameCube version, but this might have something to do with the type of hardware I have. I used a Wii with Nintendont on a 500 GB Hitachi HDD which runs at 7200 RPM. My Xbox is softmodded and has a 120 GB SSD. Keep in mind both are bottlenecked (SSD is bottlenecked by the IDE bus, HDD is bottlenecked by the USB 2.0 bus). I don't have a PS2 so I can't test that. For anyone wondering, I grew up with the Xbox version, later played the GameCube version.
Because you haven't tried the other versions. Believe me, if you would have gotten used to the GC or Xbox versions you wouldn't be able to go back to the PS2 version.
I played this on the ps2 and still had a blast, i dont complain alot when it comes to quality and stuff so i could careless about 30fps the game it self is still good and thats all i care about
Everyone, the Xbox version is the arguably superior version of the game. 60frames with no drops. (Gamecube is 60 with plenty of drops, PS2 is 30 frames.) Sharper graphics. Cleaner audio quality. No glitches. Options for more audio tracks. Option of 720p through component cables.
Well, you can always put the disc into an Xbox 360, that definitely boosts the resolution to 720p., then upscales to 1080p. Can't do that with a Wii or Wii U. And even if you do it on PS2 to PS3, it still doesn't negate the glitches, shitty graphics, or 30fps. (That and PS2 emulation on PS3 is fucking garbage.) The best way to play Sonic Heroes on a console is playing the Xbox version on 360. Followed by playing the Xbox version on an actual Xbox, then the Gamecube version. Avoid the PS2 version like the plague. Alternatively you could play the PC version and negate all of this. --- From this video alone you can tell how bad the PS2 version was. Graphic wise? Look at it. All the jaggies, meaning no AA. 30fps compared to the Xbox and Gamecube's silky framerates. And just look at the shadows for one of the more obvious differences. Xbox and Gamecube have actual dynamic shadows. PS2? Just circles.
Gustav Ferreira Well I'm pretty sure there's moments in all versions where the controls are a bit unstable when running, but I wouldn't call it slippery. But the PS2 version has the worst controls, e.g when you press a button to switch to a character it sometimes thinks you've pressed it twice and then you switch to a character you didn't mean to select which can lead to annoying deaths.
The PS2 is dogshit, so the game runs worse. Initially, the game wasn't gonna get a PS2 version because of this, but Sony basically told Sega that if they ever want to make a game on a Sony console again, they better port Sonic Heroes. This is also what made them switch from the Sonic Adventure engine to Renderware, because the former ran even worse on the PS2 than you see here.
@@dizzydaisy909 Weird. Recently, I've been questioning Sony's morals and business decisions and wondered if they ever were actually a good video game company. To tell you the truth, I've built a lot more respect for Nintendo, Sega, and Microsoft.
I grew up with all version, I know ps2 version was bad cause the frame wasn’t so good, but Xbox and GameCube were the best, pc was just too hard to play on keyboards.
I played this game on ps2 and I didn’t know that this was a not so good version, but I was little, I didn’t care! This was my first sonic game and I didn’t care for how bad it was, the same with Shadow the Hedgehog.
The PS2 had really good games. (Not saying the Xbox and GameCube didn't had good games, they had a lotta good games) It also was the one with most commercial success.
Because power doesn't sell consoles, games do. The PS2 had a ton of exclusives, and every third party developer was supporting it. It was also the cheapest DVD player on the market at the time. They were also riding off the huge success of the PS1, and it was fully backwards compatible. Sony did a lot of things right that gen, but unfortunately, they became arrogant, and that arrogance was what hurt the PS3. It wasn't until 2010 that they caught up to the 360 and managed to narrowly beat it in the end. Pardon me if a rambled on too much.
@redditis4niggerfagz I played most of this game on mute bc I secretly played ps2 in the middle of the night while parents were sleeping. Gameplay is all that matters to me.
Unless u the type to notice little to large details like that, frame rate, picture and sound quality may bug you. But, I can't really tell. Granted, I bought a Pc version that was slow, Slower than any incarnation of the game, but still had a fun time. Now, I would probably buy it for Gamecube, but only cause sonic feels like a nintendo character. Yeah! frame rate slow down can be annoying on any platform. Some may have it more than others. However, if I had focused on that alone, I wouldn't have had so much fun with the shitty version I had!
Even tho the GameCube and the Xbox have better graphics the ps2 version was more fun than the others in my opinion because the ps2 was the first version of the game and I brings back memories and when I played the game i didn't see any frame rate issues set for when I played 2 player mode. [ NOT TRYING TO DEFEND THE PS2 I JUST THOUGHT IT WAS BETTER ]
ik this is a super old comment, but i wanted to point out that the PS2 version was also the most buggy of all the versions. It had worse audio quality, worse video quality, and it had more bugs like clipping through pipes, *especially in Rail Canyon*

Favorite is the Xbox version since it works on a 360 and doesn't have any fps drops, Only thing that sucks is the choppy CGI but otherwise it's the best version imo.
The PC version is the absolute best, with the alltime 60 fps and 4 second loading times. Oh and also mods and controller support is there. The ps2 version is just broken shit, you have to take out the memory card and wait a fucking hour to put it back in JUST to use it, do it everytime you need to save or load.

The PC port is definitely better than PS2 in most areas but the collision is way glitchier, some effects are still missing compared to gamecube and xbox, and big is completely missing his stripes
Xbox is just as good as the GC so enough. Xbox got better graphics and it's 60fps to. 720p to. On 360 I make things look even better. With higher resolution.
@@xxitactical_8723 Xbox is so like the GC one but better graphics plus better high pitched sounds. Teams got better volume when speaking on Xbox as well. I got this on GC so I know my differences plus on GC the teams look pixel too much but on XBOX they look so clean.
And here I was, thinking my copy was just really shitty, with the audio errors, choppy animations, and minor freezing during the loading screens... nope, I was just playing the PS2 version
Sorry to say, but graphics comparison videoclips, especially of native 480i/p games like this are kinda useless due to the many artifacts caused by youtube high compression web video standard that basically blurs and pixelates everything. Maybe rendering and uploading them at 4k would help some... Also it's practically impossible to check the actual framerate of a specific version after all the processes needed to record and show the several versions all together.
I like more the gamecube, xbox, and pc versions. the ps2 it's inferior to the these 3, but i don't think this version it's the worst, for me it's just inferior but not the worst versions of the 4.

I'm going for the XBOX version because it's game library pairs well with Halo and Halo 2.
The ps2 version has the same glitches as the gamecube and xbox version
@@mizzix Actually, the PS2 version has even more glitches that are not present in the Nintendo GameCube and Xbox versions (Especially the GameCube one)
Coming from a nes and master system, I didn't care then
The O and X button swap is just a thing most, if not all games on PS2 did.
I had the PS2 version and I got no problems with it. I know everyone has his one opinion..But we shouldn't give that game too much hate (and sry for my bad english XD I'm from Germany)
I agree! But i like the gc version
Okey

During that year in 2003, my parents first got me this for PS2 from Blockbuster, sent it back (sadly), and then a few years later, I got to replay it on the GameCube (which I still own.)
The PS2 version is clearly the most inferior
Same
@niggerbait At raw power PS2 is underpowered against the other two, but the biggest issue is not lack of power - PS2 is extremely complex and hard to code for.
No wonder it looks the worst .. I never knew this information but I don't doubt for a second it's true.
This is why I will always have a negative feeling towards sega games being on Sony... it has never felt right at all. Sonic on Xbox on the other hand. Feels like it was meant to be. Xbox and Sega especially when it comes to Sonic games, was and always will be the right way to go
@@MizfitZer0 LMAO HELL NO 🤣

I personally think this would've done well on the dreamcast.

Gamecube: sound and frame rate
Ps2: Motion blur
I've had all three so I say that the gamecube is the best version

I ordered the Xbox version of Heroes because I hear it's backwards compatible on the 360 but the FMV's are a bit choppy on the 360
Generation Six = Greatest console generation. :)

Here’s a more modern take:

GameCube - Opera GX
PS2 - Chrome
Wtf happened to the sound effects in the ps2 version?
They got cut off
They're extremely compressed
If you want understand how bad the ps2 version handles watch in 60fps because the ps2 was inferior
PlayStation 2 : better resolution the screen is big
GameCube : Better sound
Xbox -: Better vídeo and qualiy
Better resolution? It runs at native 640x480, dude. The aspect ratio of the PS2 version is just widened in the video
, but they all fit on the TV screen in the same way.
@@krismagix1 Xbox version ran 720p and has the highest resolution.

In fly formation can hear Tails's tails when still on Xbox as well for another example.
Xbox actually has higher quality citscenes with better sound but GameCube has some sound effects that are missing on Xbox
Iky
On Xbox you can change voices as well by going to your dash board settings and switch to Japan
Just ordered an original xbox along with a copy of sonic heroes🙂
This game was my childhood... I can remember playing this on ps2 and getting so mad that I broke my controller😆
Gunna order half life 2, splinter cell double agent and doom 3 next.
Wakt but aren't the levels the same from the gc and xbox?
@@imgr82 The entire game is the same, no matter the console. Each version just has different graphical fidelity.
Here's what I can deter from here:
The PS2 version runs at 30 FPS and has the worst sound quality.
I have the playstation 2 version and I don't have any problems, no regrets
sebash789 just got it today!
sebash789 and you know, it runs at 30 fps. Which when you have 30 other versions that run at 60, is disgusting
@Remixer not even 30fps more like 15-20
Because you haven't tried the other versions.
Believe me, if you would have gotten used to the GC or Xbox versions you wouldn't be able to go back to the PS2 version.
sebash789 I am getting the GameCube version next week so I will tell you how it is
If your on XBOX or is playing this on Xbox 360 you can change to Japanese in your language settings if your wondering.
I like English though anyway and this goes for all games that has a Japanese side to it.
Vision Scape Interactive animated the cinematic cutscenes in Sonic Heroes.

I played this on the ps2 and still had a blast, i dont complain alot when it comes to quality and stuff so i could careless about 30fps the game it self is still good and thats all i care about
Everyone, the Xbox version is the arguably superior version of the game.
60frames with no drops. (Gamecube is 60 with plenty of drops, PS2 is 30 frames.)
Sharper graphics.
Cleaner audio quality.
No glitches.
Options for more audio tracks.
Option of 720p through component cables.
JROKGaming it's 480p the game is a liar
Well, you can always put the disc into an Xbox 360, that definitely boosts the resolution to 720p., then upscales to 1080p.
Can't do that with a Wii or Wii U. And even if you do it on PS2 to PS3, it still doesn't negate the glitches, shitty graphics, or 30fps. (That and PS2 emulation on PS3 is fucking garbage.)
The best way to play Sonic Heroes on a console is playing the Xbox version on 360. Followed by playing the Xbox version on an actual Xbox, then the Gamecube version. Avoid the PS2 version like the plague.
Alternatively you could play the PC version and negate all of this.
---
From this video alone you can tell how bad the PS2 version was.
I heard that Sonic Heroes has slippery controls. Is that for all versions where the controls are slippery or do some versions have better controls?
Gustav Ferreira
Well I'm pretty sure there's moments in all versions where the controls are a bit unstable when running, but I wouldn't call it slippery.
But the PS2 version has the worst controls, e.g when you press a button to switch to a character it sometimes thinks you've pressed it twice and then you switch to a character you didn't mean to select which can lead to annoying deaths.
Gamecube has Action Replay access. (PS2 as well but worst performance)

Who wants a side-by-side-by-side comparison of the PlayStation 2, GameCube and Xbox versions of Scooby-Doo: Night of 100 Frights?
Me
The Xbox and Gamecube versions look great! So, what happened with the PS2 version?

I actually just bought the PS2 version the other day, and it's honestly not as bad as people make it out to be. To me, at least.
Ps2 has the biggest library but Sony don't seem to be taking backwards compatibility serious atm so I would suggest the xbox version of any multiplats
0:00 SONIC HEROOOOOS
how come ps2 lived longer than gamecube and xbox, when its weaker?
The PS2 had really good games. (Not saying the Xbox and GameCube didn't had good games, they had a lotta good games)
It also was the one with most commercial success.
The Xbox version can go to 720p, according to the back of the case. I think I'll get the Xbox version over GameCube.
Dont the gamplay is better on gamecube
Yes it's fantastic on Xbox like seriously and voices are great and sounds.
PS2 GANG PS2 GANG feels bad man : (
@redditis4niggerfagz I played most of this game on mute bc I secretly played ps2 in the middle of the night while parents were sleeping.
We really need a PS5 port of this game... with HDR / Dolby Vision support
Frame rate drops could be a result of emulation or scratched discs as it makes it more difficult for the console to read it.
ik this is a super old comment, but i wanted to point out that the PS2 version was also the most buggy of all the versions. It had worse audio quality, worse video quality, and it had more bugs like clipping through pipes, *especially in Rail Canyon*
@@vitobru8361 I forget I even wrote that comment to be honest, lol. Despite the PS2 version having the worst quality, Sonic Heroes is still a pretty fun game!

1:59 Amy are you? xd
Only difference between the Xbox and GC ones are the shadows. The PS2 version is just...bad.
Favorite is the Xbox version since it works on a 360 and doesn't have any fps drops, Only thing that sucks is the choppy CGI but otherwise it's the best version imo.
I have both the ps2 and gamecube version
GameCube looks the best
The PC version is the absolute best, with the alltime 60 fps and 4 second loading times. Oh and also mods and controller support is there. The ps2 version is just broken shit, you have to take out the memory card and wait a fucking hour to put it back in JUST to use it, do it everytime you need to save or load.

The PC port is definitely better than PS2 in most areas but the collision is way glitchier, some effects are still missing compared to gamecube and xbox, and big is completely missing his stripes
Tiny pictures :/
Team Blast is used by pressing the white button (left) or black button (right)?

Xbox is just as good as the GC so enough. Xbox got better graphics and it's 60fps to. 720p to. On 360 I make things look even better. With higher resolution.

Actually, xbox apparently has framerate issues not present in the GC version. Bit of a tradeoff for the sharper looks, I guess.
My god i still remember how bad the frame rate was with the PlayStation 2 and how much it was lacking with the audio backgrounds
I have the ps2 version and bought the GameCube version today
And here I was, thinking my copy was just really shitty, with the audio errors, choppy animations, and minor freezing during the loading screens... nope, I was just playing the PS2 version
Sorry to say, but graphics comparison videoclips, especially of native 480i/p games like this are kinda useless due to the many artifacts caused by youtube high compression web video standard that basically blurs and pixelates everything. Maybe rendering and uploading them at 4k would help some...
Also it's practically impossible to check the actual framerate of a specific version after all the processes needed to record and show the several versions all together.
You can tell the ps2 version has a lower framerste everytime they go into a loop.
I like more the gamecube, xbox, and pc versions. the ps2 it's inferior to the these 3, but i don't think this version it's the worst, for me it's just inferior but not the worst versions of the 4.
