GameCube I didn’t buy into when it released but for visuals, they could’ve marketed the component cables better than a China and Nintendo website only.
The PS2 version is the worst. It only runs in 480i, runs at 30fps during gameplay with slowdown, has lower-quality textures, water effects and shadows, has the worst load times, and the music and voices are more muffled in comparison to the other two. The PS2 version also runs in a lower vertical resolution than the other two at 448 pixels high, though that's small potatoes. Surprisingly, draw distance between the three looks to be the same. Yeah. The PS2 version is like the last gen version of a game, while the Xbox & Gamecube versions feel like the next gen versions. Either way, the PS2 version was sadly the most played one due to being the best selling console. Even though in my opinion the PS2 is a crappy DVD player trying to pass itself off as a console. I do wonder if they focused their development primarily on the PS2 version, then ported to the other consoles. Would the PS2 version have turned out a lot better? It was like that with the PS3 I think. Seems to be a rule of thumb to focus on the hardest one first and foremost.
calling the ps2 a “crappy dvd player trying to pass itself off as a console” is pretty goofy considering games like god of war 2 and okami exist, games that look almost as impressive as any of the best offerings of the xbox and gamecube- all while being an older and more versatile machine. It easily could have run heroes as well as the xbox and gamecube, but the poet was a last minute call for sonic team. Of course the xbox and gamecube are still more powerful machines, and the ps2 version in its current is… rough. Not to mention shadow on ps2 being a completly unplayable mess, speaking from experince.
I have the PS2 and GC versions. I prefer the sharp unfiltered look of the PS2 version. The GC versions has better framerates. I orignally had the GC version first because with the end of sega in hardware I felt that Sonic was better placed on the GC. Xbox also applys an ugly filter to it's games like the GC, so I doubt i'd like that one anymore than the GC version.
Love this video thank you! Seems like Xbox takes gold, Gamecube is silver and PS2 is bronze, which is a tough pill to swallow because even though now I own all three in the last 3 years. The ps2 was my childhood and the first console I bought with my own money. What settings did you use on the retrotink for each console?
Grew up with the gc version, and I notice the xbox version seems to drop frames where the gc version doesnt. This can be seen in the first stage, iirc it happens on your way to the first set of cannons. A little bit before the palace rises from the ocean.
Although the water is better and the load times are faster on the xbox version, I’d still choose the gamecube version because the controller works well for it. Ps2 version sadly is much worse.
So fun fact; the game wasn't even supposed to be made for the PS2. The original plan was to make it Xbox and GameCube exclusive, but Sony (as they did to everyone that gen) strong armed SEGA into making a PS2 port otherwise they wouldn't let them release another game on the platform. Which was a big deal as the PS2 was and continued to outsell the other two platforms by a large margin, and they couldn't risk that kind of install base. So the game had to hastily be ported to PS2, manpower was taken from the other versions, the development became a mess, and it got to a point where QA testing basically said that if the bug wasn't stopping you from beating the game, just don't report it. It's worth noting that SEGA was well aware of just how weak the PS2 was and actually tried porting the Sonic Adventure games to the system, but the PS2 just didn't play nice with the engines those games ran on.
SEGA killed SEGA hardware, not the PS2. Nintendo fell just as hard as SEGA, but they didn't have the internal conflict of "America wants to be different" and a 32X to compete with their Nintendo 64 like SEGA did. You truly spoke it like someone who wasn't there.
But EVERYONE wanted a PS2 back in 2000 smh.... once again like every other multiplatform game the PS2 suffers in the visuals dept with Xbox being number one in graphics due to raw power......all in all im very glad i gotta Gamecube that generation, good times
The only reason I prefer the GameCube version over the Xbox is that here in Australia you can play the GC version in 60hz whereas the Xbox version you are stuck at 50hz but aside from that the GC and Xbox really are neck and neck for me. PS2 version sucks balls
Too bad then that the 60 Hz setting in the PAL GC version is all wack since it's actually just the 50 Hz setting sped up... a bit too much... with its timing being actually faster than the intended NTSC speed. Also, get this. Apparently, the 50 Hz setting on the PAL PS2 version runs FASTER than the 60 Hz setting. I'm not joking. Also, is there really no way to set the PAL Xbox console to 60 Hz? Not even a hidden feature like holding the B button during the console boot up sequence which Gamecube has?
@@ScatterbrainPete There is, but Australia got shafted even hard than other PAL regions sometimes. My UK PAL versions are fine, but I've got a mate over in Sydney who has the AU PAL version which runs noticeably... different in comparison.
GameCube version being more optimized than the Xbox version it can hold the 60 FPS better than the Xbox version? Damn lazy optimization despite some cool effects and Xbox being more powerful. Maybe if the game was compatible on Xbox Series X/S then it would've take over the GameCube version's throne and making it the best version of it on home consoles and iron out the FPS drops.

Does the xbox filter the image when ran in 480p? I know if it's 480i, the flicker filter can be turned off in your modded dashboard.
@@robbyjvc I just use 1080p on my Xbox 360
I just think the gamecube version is the best from graphics to controls or maybe its just a personal take idk
I would play the Nintendo GameCube version of Sonic Heroes.
I can see there are several graphical issues with the Xbox footage. Are you running these in emulators?
Love this video thank you! Seems like Xbox takes gold, Gamecube is silver and PS2 is bronze, which is a tough pill to swallow because even though now I own all three in the last 3 years. The ps2 was my childhood and the first console I bought with my own money. What settings did you use on the retrotink for each console?
Obviously the ps2 version is the loser. I think the difference between gamecube and xbox is negligable, and an argument could be made for either.
1:34 was this jitter due to video recording or did the Xbox drop frames?
Interesting. I haven't noticed it. I have to go back and check.
Are you using emulator ? The resolution is clearly higher than original consoles
PS2 really held the gen back with games being designed to run on that piecofshi 😂
Xbox has the best CGI looks
I have to wonder if the PS2 version intentionally had the least time put into optimization, since PS2 is what effectively killed the Dreamcast
@@joshuashaw6105 With that situation I'm surprised the game wasn't buggier
SEGA killed SEGA hardware, not the PS2.
Nintendo fell just as hard as SEGA, but they didn't have the internal conflict of "America wants to be different" and a 32X to compete with their Nintendo 64 like SEGA did.
You truly spoke it like someone who wasn't there.
But EVERYONE wanted a PS2 back in 2000 smh.... once again like every other multiplatform game the PS2 suffers in the visuals dept with Xbox being number one in graphics due to raw power......all in all im very glad i gotta Gamecube that generation, good times
Xbox y GameCube son lo mejores
Pc version is the best because of mod support it runs in 720p and 4k with wide-screen with mods
I think the real winners are the people who didn't subject themselves to this monstrosity, regardless of platform.
why ? Sonic heroes is a great game
GameCube wins
Idk about Xbox
And PS2 is my least favorite and I just don’t like this port
Ps2 is disgusting, GameCube and Xbox are perfect
The ps2 version doesn’t look as smooth frame rate wise and has more jagged lines
It works on 360 and gets rid of slowdown, only issue are the choppy CG cutscenes
надо отдать должено, что версии очень близки, у PS2 самое скудное разрешение и это ощущяется в "каше" на экране где много мелкой геометрии, ну и вода, разумеется, сильно пасует перег GC и XBOX версиями
If i play sonic
I will use xbox and nintendo
xbox looks best but has some awkward slowdown
GC > Xbox >>>>>>>>>>PS2
Ps2 is better
@@Switchwall worse*
ps2 version is balls
Xbox is best in my opinion
Elsa Anna on Xbox original this console Jill Mullen girlfriends Nintendo GameCube Jayson on PS2 fat this console NTSC uc
XBOX and GameCube are almost on par. Playstation 2 lags, literally and figuratively, behind, as usual. Let's face it, PS2 was shit. People only jumped on it because of brand recognition and it being a cheap DVD player.
Yeah honestly, It had some good exclusives but if a game is ever ported to all 3 systems the PS2 version is almost consistently the worst one
@@ratking9577 I can't help but try to imagine what a GameCube version of Kingdom Hearts 2 and FF X would have looked like
@@ratking9577 Why don't you run it on Progressive Scan
PS2 is worth owning for its exclusives but yeah... otherwise you're far better off with Xbox or Gamecube even
@@SantiagoMonroy5 Back then, each console had a lot of exclusives, unlike nowadays when there's like 5 on PS, 20 on Nintendo and 2 on XBOX with the rest of the catalog being the same thing
The ps2 looks a lot worse then the gamecube and x box also the ps2 runs with half the frame rate, has worse shadows, texture and models.
