I’ve been roofing and installing seamless gutters for a long time and I warn every homeowner that either puts on new gutters or new roof where they have thought about leaf guards or anything of the sort I tell them never to buy leaf guard gutters. They are worse than just leaving them open and letting the gutter do their normal job. I tell customers that it’s cheaper to hire even a roofer to come clean your gutters than it is to pay for these to be installed I’ve even come over to places where they have got lead guard are completely covered in inches of dirt. And pine needles rendering them completely useless making the rain run right off the roof as if there are no gutters at all thank you for sharing your video. I’ve been blasting them all over social media for years because I think it’s wrong to trick our elderly and veterans into thinking they’re getting some thing that is actually useful when in fact, they’re being just lied to if I were you, I would sue take all your video evidence hire a lawyer, and take them to at least small claims or something let them know you mean business don’t let them just walk away with your money.
I was a roofer for 12 years in my younger days {I'm 68 and retired now}. I came across all different types of gutter guards and screens and I can tell you that none of them were effective. Back then I lived in Columbus Ohio and every autumn after the leaves fell the company I worked for would would get lots of calls to clean gutters and I did a lot of that work. Many of the homes I worked on had gutter guards and I would have to remove them to clean the gutters and clear downspout blockages then replace the useless guards making the job take twice as long which cost the customer extra money in labor. I live in SC now and probably twice a month I get something in the mail wanting me to get an estimate for gutter screens. I just chuckle and throw it in the trash. I am still able to clean out gutters myself. I think these companies prey on elderly folk. My advice is to call a reputable roofer and have them clean out your gutters. Don't fall for it. They absolutely do not work.
Thank you! I've been looking at getting these gutter guards but hesitated because I have a ton of trees and pine needles and didn't see how the gutter guards would work with them. I'm glad I read your post and will continue as I have been, having someone clean my gutters in the fall.
I've had one experience with 'small claims' and will never do it again. After you pay the fee to make a claim, you have to show up on the determined date, sit and wait for the judgement, and even if you 'win' your claim YOU are responsible for actually getting your money! What's the point in filing a claim, then? YEAH, GOOD LUCK WITH THAT! 😱😣
Yes, by all means, contact your state attorney general's office and file complaints for as many things as they will allow you. I get so TIRED of seeing these commercials during the local, evening news... If it sounds too good to be true, it's usually LeafGuard.
@@Mach141 11,000$ 😂 who would pay 11,000$ for gutters 💀 why not call another company to compare prices? I think once u get 65 or older ur brain doesn’t work properly
If there’s one comment I hope she reads, I hope it’s yours. I hope these gutter installers are held accountable to the fullest extent possible for taking advantage of elderly
No kidding! that looks like a sub 2000 square foot single floor home, I have a 3500 sq foot home, and All new commercial gutters were only $4000. I have a second home also about 3500 sq feet that I had a "gutter monster" leaf guard system installed for also about $4000. That system has been maintenance and trouble free for 14 years. I don't even have to clean the gutters out.
Yeah I hate to blame victims, but $11,000 for gutters? With a price tag that high, I can see why things like "100% free labor" sounds appealing. That is a very deceptive tactic and I'm almost certain that's what that company did. Who needs to pay labor when the product is being upcharged 500%?
Sorry for the trauma they caused you. That price is absurd, and the product may work in climates with drizzle rain, but no way can that laminar flow design work with sticks and other debris dropped by trees. I got a deep gutter installed, put in stainless steel gutter guards and they work great. Not the micromesh ones, those clog up, but the larger hole design works great, even for pine needles.
Thank you for sharing g this! These people sat in our living room and promised the world. Started at $12,000, got dorm to $4,000 with no payment for a year, tried to say they need to keep their guys working. My husband is 100% disabled vet with cancer also… I sent them packing. Tried to tell us our log home built in 1850’s had a wet crawl space … never have we had a wet crawl space. We dodged a bullet. A complete sham!!
We payed $5800.00 in 2016 for one story house,we are elderly we felt it was too much , just got a new roof. The corners of roof was water logged and water damage.they preyed on elderly. My husband is vet,no mention of any discount…😡
I’ve been a STATE LICENSED contractor who specializes in exterior work since 1999. I can tell you I’ve never done a gutter job on a single story home with leaf guard for more than $2500. We constantly come in behind these guys and fix or entirely redo what they’ve messed up. A lot of customers who got their bid first said they knew it was a scam soon as their sales guy is taking 25% off in minutes if “you sign today”. You can’t NEED $4,000 for a job and be down to $2500 in minutes of starting the sales pitch. And most of my interactions in Florida with this company are just leaf filter related. They don’t get many full gutter jobs down here. It’s all just adding leaf filter to already installed gutter systems. But they switch things in those like the hangers for wrong sized hangers and I’ve had 3 entire houses of gutter fall after they went and “upgraded” the system. These aren’t contractors or even Constuction oriented humans. They’re sold a franchise and are getting into work they’ve never done.
Actually, “old people” are not gullible, they come from an earlier time when people were honest in their business dealings, and many such dealings were done on a handshake.
Very good lesson here Brenda. Thank you. I grew up in tropical climate where houses are built with corrugated iron roofing sheets. The sheets are simply extended beyond the edge of the building so that when it rains, the water falls at least 2 feet or more beyond the structure onto grass. No gutters required unless you want to direct rain water to a holding tank.
Thank you for making this video. We had a leaf guard guy come to our house several years ago. When he gave me the quote, my mouth about hit the ground! The whole concept never seemed right to me. I couldn’t see how they would work. Thank you for verifying that I was right! And I’m so sorry for what you and your husband have been through. 😢
I too recommend avoiding LeafFilter at all cost! When I got the estimate of almost $12,000 after all the discounts for the complete system I decided against it. Instead I agreed just to have my existing gutters cleaned for a cost of $585. LeafFilter subcontracted the work and the subcontractor told me if I had gone directly to them I could have had the job done for $125. I got burned by LeafFilter.
I went from paying some local mexicans to clean my gutters twice a year to spending a few hundred dollars on a gutter cover with self tapping machine screws that was just aluminum with a lot of small drilled out holes in it. Hired the same people that cleaned my gutters to install it and they did the gutter cover installation from the roof all the way around the house in less than 30 minutes. 5 years on, It's been fantastic. No longer the splitter splatter of overflowing gutters in front of my front porch and side window. Every year it pays for itself. Sure a lot of youtube videos say that eventually the gutters will fill up with roof granules as the roof degrades but I can use the money I've saved to deal with that later. Ya it will be a big expense later but so will the roof replacement. Home ownership ain't cheap.
No gutter guards are going to be completely maintenance-free. I have the kind with holes drilled in the top, and even then stuff gets inside. You have to clean them out, but they do help keep the downspouts from clogging up.
Thank You so much. My husband and I were just talking about our gutters. We live in Florida, where it rains almost everyday, in the Summer. Our gutters over flows when ever a heavy rain occurs, which is quite often. I wanted to see about these, but NOT anymore! I'm sorry about everything you have gone through, you can't believe ANY company, anymore. I miss the old America.
Your gutters may be over flowing from to small of a gutter during these heavy rains. If you have a 5 inch K style gutter, then you could go with a 6 inch K style gutter which doesn’t sound like much, but adds a great deal of extra water volume. If you have proper run off away from the house, I would not worry about it so much anyway unless you are getting damage to landscaping as the run off occurs. Gutter guards will not help you with only heavy rain, it will actually make things worse. If your gutters are old and worn out, look at the 6 inch gutters
Get yourself a deep gutter. That is fastened securely so that the weight of the water won't bring it down. And have it sloped and drained to the right location.
Dear Brenda, your post has done so many people good! Please consider doing another post in 3 more months, and then in another 3 months. You have the POWER with this video, so please USE it! God bless you and your husband ❤️. And keep fighting! You are doing God’s work.

I am so sorry that you went through this Brenda. Thank you for warning the rest of us about that company, it is greatly appreciated. Please file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. All the best to you and your family. 😊
My personal experiences with the Better Business Bureau is that they are actually business friendly, and really there to insulate businesses from actual accountability. They receive and then attempt to defuse customer complaints, rather than act to protect the consumer. They are the "Fox guarding the hen house".
BBB is a waste of time. The same thing happened to me. She did the only thing you can do. SHOW THE COUNTRY. I tried every agency in the book. Bottom line..BUYER BE WARE..The contract you sign in iron clad.. I am disabled also. They dont care. I had my son pull them off before they did to much damage. $2500 for a small job. Their junk has been thrown down beside my garage for a couple years. I still owe $1600 on payments.
The BBB is the largest scam that's been running for decades. All it is, is for businesses to force their customers into arbitration. In fact, you would be better off not to do business with any that boast their BBB credentials.
If you people aren’t aware the people telling you what things to buy are finally directly connected to the people selling you everything! What a perfect economy!

I have had gutters on my house for years, I called a gutter company to do a general maintenance and cleaning. They refused. I was specifically told that they would only do the service by allowing them to install these at a cost of nearly 5k. Why would I have to replace my gutters that work just fine but need occasional maintenance. I had read reviews on these and found that people that were quick to review gave great reviews, but the people that waited 6 months or more had the real honest reviews, not good at all. I am glad you took the time to post what people should know. If only you knew before you invested hard earned money
Our home is surrounded by trees, so the gutter cleaning every year was a major pain. I looked at variouos gutter guards and noticed a major problem. They all seemed to lay flat on the top of the gutter. And, of course, they were expensive. I searched around and found that I could get a box of 3 foot gutter guard panels; enough to cover 100 feet, for abouot $90. They came, and were even supplied with self-tapping screws and a magnetic drill bit to hold them for one handed drilling. The change I made, was not to install them flat on the gutter, but to match the pitch of the roof, which was an a-frame. The debris washes off, but the holes capture the rain and let it flow through the gutter. About a total of 4 hours of work and my whole house was completed. Cost? Under $100 and my time. This was last year, when I was 74.
I'm a senor age 73 in Michigan and these guys advertise relentlessly. So sorry to hear about your troubles. It is a general principle that a great majority of contractors will rip off from senior citizens no matter what the service. One company told us it would cost $30K to put new lines to our septic system when we had a clog. Another fellow fixed it for $250.00 in twenty minutes. Go figure. SENIORS BEWARE!!
Sadly that happens to anyone that doesn't know any better. At a local restaurant I eat at the owner mentioned a toilet that did not flush properly so he called a plumber, the plumber said those 3 toilets were not commercial type and the only way to get them to work would be replace them, to the tune of about 5,000.00 I told him I would take a look at it, they have been there since 1970, and only 1 was having a problem, I snaked it and didn't find anything, but I noticed it just wasn't much water coming out when flushed, (by the way, these were the commercial toilets that have no tanks, just the big chrome handle to pull to flush) I pulled the valve out and found someone had put in the wrong valve, it wax supposed to have a 3.5 gallon valve, but only had a 1 gallon valve, so a 25.00 valve fixed the problem, 4,975.00 less than the plumber quoted. Owner bought the valve and I put it in, by the way, I got a really nice steak out of that.
Be wary of anybody who constantly advertises....it means they're constantly on the hunt for new clients. And, their fees include money to fund those endless ads.
Yes, constantly having someone ring my doorbell saying they are doing a job in the area and saw that my “ so and so” needs repair or redone. Since they are in the area and already have the materials on hand they can do the job really cheap. I just say NO and shut the door.
I worked with a woman several years ago who's husband was a LeafGuard contractor/franchise owner. I asked if I should switch from my aluminum slotted covers (they were working fine). I wanted the inside scoop on LeafGuard is all. She said they don't work well in heavy rains (here in the Midwest we get a lot of heavy thunderstorms in the summer). That didn't surprise me. What did was when she told me that they create ice damns and long BIG icicles that tear the gutters off the house! After 3 years her husband sold the franchise because he could no longer install them with a clear conscience.

Thank you for posting the video, so sorry to hear this mess. I too was a roofer for a little while in college and we always advised folks to chose traditional gutters and have them cleaned out on a regular basis. Unfortunately, it's still the most reliable method, especially in rain-prone areas of the country.
Thank you SOOO MUCH for this information!! I have thought about contacting them about replacing my gutters but after hearing about your nightmare, I've changed my mind. Thank you again & GOD BLESS YOU🙏💓🙏
I watched their commercials and questioned whether the gutters would work. Thank you for taking the time and consideration for others to post this video.
Same here. I have often seen their TV ads. Each time I asked / told myself: "That looks like it might be a good idea,,,, but,,,,, will they actually work"? Apparently from the video by "Brenda", they do NOT work at all. I have done some work part-time & full-time on home construction/ painting/ repair / block wall-concrete walkways and basic home repairs since I was a young teenager. I retired 5 years ago, but still have some tools.
I'm a senior as well and I don't want to climb on ladders anymore to clean my gutters so last year I bought an extension that goes on the end of my leaf blower, I paid $15 on sale from eBay and the thing works awesome!
Leaf Guard gutters were already installed on a house I bought. During the first heavy rain I realized that the gutters were overflowing and full of small limbs and leaves. I clean them every year. Because of the way they are made they are not easy to clean. A contractor poked a hole in the bottom of the gutter while building a patio. I tried to get the local Leaf Guard contractor to come out and repair it. They refused, they told me the only option was to replace the entire run across the rear of my house. This gutter is under trees and has some dents in the top from limbs falling on it. They told me that voided my warranty. I give them a bad referral every chance I get.
The patio guy is responsible for fixing that. But you can fix a hole with caulk or J.B. weld or Bondo or solder or any number of ways. A plumber can solder it. I would probably use J.B. Weld and just do it myself.
@@rettif9if you know any lawyers that could do you a favor, I’d have them write leaf-guard a threatening letter over their refusal to honor the warranty. If they’re going to sell a junk product for twice the price of what even the best gutters should cost, they could at least do repairs instead of trying to squeeze you for more money

Brenda, thank you so much for creating this video warning people. It’s unfortunate what yall had to go through, but a blessing in disguise is that you’ll have saved others from this heartache. Hope yalls gutters don’t worry yall anymore. Cheers
LeafGuard is heavily advertised on some niche-TV networks in the US. The aspect that always got me puzzled about the design of it: How can the rainwater drain into the gutters when there is a layer of leaves on top of the LeafGuard grill screen? Leaves piled on the roof and gutters would block the drainage of the rainwater to the gutters, making the water flowing to the ground as if there were no gutters in the first place.
LeafGuard, allegedly, works by using the surface tension of water. The theory is that water will follow the curve of the edge into the gutter. Meanwhile, they say, leaves, bugs, dirt, and debris keep going over the edge (not into the gutter) under its own momentum. Knowing that water is a "sticky" molecule, and seeing the design of the gutters, I could never wrap my head around how they figure debris - especially small bits of debris - would make the jump to avoid being flushed down the gutter; it doesn't make sense. But, they sure do have some slick marketing!
I always thought the same thing. I have friends that have had them installed, but they aren’t like me and don’t even inspect around the house when it rains.
I’m 71 years old. Had a heart attack in 2022 which required a quad bypass to repair. This was in Jan of 2022. In June of that same year after getting an estimate to clean out the gutters and install Leaf Guards I decided to tackle it myself. I had been in rehab for 6 months and lifting weights with the approval of my Cardiologist. After convincing my wife I would “ take my leisure “ on the job, I got the materials together and a ladder and began to clean out all the gutters. Took 2 days to clean the gutters and 2 days to install the leaf guards. I watched a You Tube video to learn the ins and outs which made it way easier than I thought. My son wanted to help me but I insisted I would be fine. It was time consuming and me feet got sore from climbing up and down the ladder for 4 consecutive days. But, I finished the job. The estimate I received was for $2100 ( which is why I researched doing it myself ). The total out of pocket for me was 42 leaf guard sections at $4.50 a section and 4 pairs of work gloves, which I had already. The total cost was $189. I was shocked that’s all I invested. But, 2 years later, my gutters are 98% cleared and flowing freely. I brushed them off or spray them off once a year in the fall. We have quite a few trees. A side note……. After the job was complete I spent the next 2 days relaxing and recuperating. I told all this to show how much you get ripped off from some of those companies. They would have made $2021 profit from my savings! I realize most people at my age shouldn’t be doing this type of labor outside but I wanted to see how far I could get the job done. Little did I know I could complete it myself!
THOSE SCREENS CAN CAUSE ICE TO DAM UP AND WHEN IT MELTS IT WILL RUN BEHIND AND UNDER YOUR ROOF and then you have the wood sheeting rotting . My whole porch roof on my house had to be replaced and i had to put new roof shingles on my whole house , 15 thousand dollars because of those screens and i live in SOUTHSIDE VIRGINIA 15 minutes from north carolina border just 4 years of those screens . At least the screens were only put on the front gutter and never istalled on the back gutter
A tip I saw in another video: Screw the handle of a push broom into the underside of the broom head. Then you brush the leaf guards off from underneath. For 1 story gutters, it lets you leave the ladder in the garage.
I would never pay 11k for a gutter system. I do not care that they put a weeping tile system in. That was about a 6k job at best. I am sorry you had to go through this but I think you got scammed. I cam glad you got this fixed before it did major damage to the structure of your home! Thank you and your family for your husbands service to our country and for making this video. I was considering these gutters. I guess I will keep what I have.
This is a horrendous scam that preys on a lot of people especially seniors. Let’s all try to report to UA-cam to remove LeafGuard and LeafFilter ads. I’ve begun reporting LeafGuard ads and will try my best to carry on with this effort

Aloha Brenda - Thank you so much for sharing your poor experience. I'll be 76 in June and I'm a Vietnam Combat Veteran and a military retiree. I live on the Windward side of Oahu. Once in a while we get some major downpours. I don't know the pitch of your roof or the roofing material type, but that makes a difference on how large your gutters and downspouts should be. About a year after I purchased our home I noted a slight leak in our asphalt-shingled (the least expensive material initially) roof. So after considerable research online and visiting a builders expo in Honolulu, I decided to have both my 1800 sq ft Rancher and 500 sq ft 3-car detached garage re-roofed with Aluminum Shake Roofing. It has a Lifetime warranty. Of course, I had to pay more than twice what an asphalt shingle roof would cost, but if I had the asphalt shingles I would have had at least one more roof replacement and 5 years into another. The humidity and salt air plays havoc in Hawaii. Also, normally you have to pay more for materials and labor. Unfortunately, I didn't know that when you install a metal roof, you probably need a larger gutter and downspout. I had the smaller one (either 4" or 5" K-style style with 2" x 3" downspout. So, during heavy rains it would overflow. So several years ago my 20-something year-old aluminum gutters were beyond their life expectancy so I decided to replace them with new 4 1/2" x 6" gutters and 3" x 4" downspouts. That increased the volume by 40%. So far, I never had any waterfalls. One last thing. If you live where there is snow and ice, you should ask for the heavy gauge (0.032 inches) aluminum. Although we have no snow, I opted for the heavier gauge aluminum rather than the industry standard 0.027 inches (or some companies will use a lesser thickness of 0.019 or 0.025 inches). Altogether I paid less than $3,000.00 for 5 gutters and 8 downspouts. Of course, in my case, I didn't opt for any leaf filters so every so often I have to clean two gutters out because of the trees overhead. Anyway, ALWAYS do your own research. The local gutter installer wanted to know how I knew as much as I did about gutters and downspouts. I pointed to my smartphone and said, "I Googled it". He just shook his head. Too many folks apparently don't understand that smartphones can do much more than take photos/videos and look at social media posts.
Every discount claim is typical marketing BS. This industry is full of scammers and it’s sad there isn’t more consumer protection from it. I bought a new big screen TV a few years ago and the hard sell on extended warranty was nauseating. My response to it was all of these risks and potential fatal flaws that are likely to happen soon after the manufactures warranty expires in a year, tells me I should not buy this sub standard product. It’s funny how saying thanks for the heads up and walking towards the store exit changes a sales representatives perspective on the quality of their products. The harder any industry pushes a product or service, the more likely it’s not to your benefit as good products and services sell themselves, not requiring paid chearleaders or deception. Thank you for the video and sorry about your troubles. I like to think there’s a special place in hell for people like this.
@@saintpoyes unfortunately. The physics of the design is based on surface tension of water under ideal conditions with slow constant rain. That’s why the commercials look great but in storms and overall they’re horrific.
The first time I bought a new BMW they had me in the dealership after dark and locking the doors at 9, I had been there more than 8 hours, the sticking point was they wanted me to buy the extended warranty which I did not want, warranties like that are scams, period. I finally got so tired I agree rationalizing that it is a BMW, the repairs would be outrageous if anything ever went wrong. Well it turned out that this warranty was $3,000 financed over 6 years at 5.5% and only covered from the end of the factory warranty (50 k miles) till 75 k miles. And yes there was a problem at 52,000 miles, the center console where the A/C blower motor is inside the dash sucked in a paper napkin that was in the glove compartment because BMW does not put screens over the ports that allow air to get to the motor. They had to disassemble the front interior of the car to get to it with a fairly hefty bill which I submitted to the warranty company, and they denied the claim saying that was not a mechanical repair but "cleaning." AFTER MARKET WARRANTIES ARE ALL SCAMS! ALL OF THEM, and what gets me is how Walmart wants to know if you would like the warranty on your purchases, I am like it is a $1.49 lighter, but if something goes wrong they will pay to ship it back to China and have it repaired and returned to me? And the Warranty is $12.99? I never, NEVER ever buy the useless inconvenient expensive fraudulent warranties!
@@bluebook709 Wow. What a scam. I have found part of the strategy of a new car dealer is to keep you there and just wear you down. I bought an extended warranty on a 2003 Toyota, it was only at the time $300-400, but after I bought I wondered "the whole point of buying a Toyota at a premium price was because it was reliable - so why did I need an extended warranty". Fortunatley I did have a few repairs, and I broke even on it. But never again. Extended warranties are money makers for the retailer - meaning they are losers for you.

I bought an older home a few years ago. There were aluminum mesh guards on the gutters. I removed and discarded them. They did keep leaves out, but windblown dirt that settled on the roof, washed into them with every rain. I had to scrape out 2" of hardened mud with a putty knife. Glad It's a ranch, and not a two story! There is no magic cure, gutters have to be cleaned.

I worked for KGuard Gutters, which is actually owned by one of the original owners of leaf guard, they knew how terrible their gutter system was so they branched off and started KGuard gutters. We did a condo complex that had ALL leaf guard on it, we took it ALL down because they were all clogged and ruined a few buildings. LeafGuard is by far the worst fake promise you can invest in.
I worked there when Carsons sold LeafGuard, it wasn't because of the system, it was because Beldon Roofing out of Texas offered him a huge amount of money.

This was when you couldn't just watch a UA-cam tutorial. 25 years later, I still replaced the brakes on all my vehicles and my family members' vehicles. Almost all of the repair jobs cost less than $50 if you purchase the lifetime warranty pads and return the bases to the original store of purchase. Good job, Bigguy.
I've installed two sets of gutters on two houses, buying the gutter components from a contractor wholesaler. I installed gutter guards on both sets, commercial slide-in on the first, which worked OK but not great. When it came time to do the second job, I researched and wound up using expanded aluminum material from the local metal yard instead of commercially available guards. This worked well, and cost around $200 for the whole house. In huge downpours, the gutters will overflow in a few spots as the down spouts get overwhelmed, but this is uncommon and not a big deal. Shop around, this is a local handyman-level job and shouldn't be anywhere near the prices quoted in the video.
That is correct. $2k max for full gutter installation from a reputable company on most houses. It’s the salespeople that are to blame. They prey on ignorant people. No empathy, just dollar signs in their eyes. The customer too shares partial blame at times. They expect way too much. It’ll never work perfectly. Don’t expect it to. And…. when it doesn’t, don’t blame others. You signed the contract. Pulling out a violin and telling a sob story putting no blame on yourself is just wrong. Do your own research. Educate yourself. Be armed with knowledge and it’s far less likely to be taken advantage of.
You’d be surprised how much decent gutter gets sent to the scrapyard. New roof? New siding? Might as well get new gutters. Functionally they are fine. Might be dirty and dingy and look bad, but otherwise fine and still do the job they were designed for. So, to answer the question…. literally everyone has access to this at a scrapyard.
The collapsed drain pipe 2:40 that was buried in the yard was a major problem that caused the water to back up and gush out of the little clean out door in the down spout pipe. Your gutters were probably full of water during a rain storm. Glad you had that underground drain lines replaced.
I have old underground drain pipes, they were there when I bought the house thirty years ago, I imagine they are all clogged, and have tree roots growing through them. Whenever a heavy rain is predicted I just attach an eight length of gutter to the down spouts and have it run away from the house (in a real heavy rain 3-4" in 24 I'll ad another eight feet. Fortunately my house was well sited (thats one of the reasons I bought it), and the land slopes away in the back and front. For me, I don't think its worth the expense to dig up the old drain pipes.
The gutters ran over in back as well, and we have no drain lines back there. We couldn’t even walk out our back door during rain. The front lines worked fine until LeafGuard gutters clogged them.
Clean out door is upside down because the lip must overlap at the bottom. You will see water like to stick to the surface because of the water tension. Unfortunately not all of the water will stick to the surface and will go over gutter opening. I say it is a bad design and a money pit
@@BrenniJowhere do those downspout lines discharge? Corrugsted rippled piping is inferior, and clogs up with material due to the undulations + holds water for roots to penetrate
Thanks for the video! Always getting their ads in the mail and non-stop commercials which I skip over. Sorry for your trouble. It’s definitely a high price to pay. ❣️🍀
I'm sorry to hear about the horrible ordeal you have been through! I was told that there isn't a gutter guard that works! In CT it costs us 250 a year to get ours cleaned after 10 years 2500.00 . Math made our decision for us. Stay well and thank you husband and you for your service to our great nation. God Bless
I agree. My wife called them for gutter guards. Guy came out and said 5,000. I laughed in his face. I said the same thing you did. 250 to clean that’s 20 years. The guards, which they manufacture, are sheet metal and plastic and screening. The cost to do that is not much. Huge markup on these things.
I can attest to the truth of what Brenda shows here. My mom had LeafGuard and they performed exactly as depicted here. She had them out several times but nothing made them work. I do not recall any doors in mom’s. Please do save yourself the money and destruction that these gutters will cause to your home.
I am so sorry to hear about your experience, but I thank you for your honest review. Was considering getting these gutters installed. No idea they were that costly. No way I would purchase these now.
My goodness I'm so sorry you and your family is had to deal with this. I'm so grateful for your video, I was considering them for our gutters and I am not going to do that now.
The swindlers often target old people. Partly because the U.S. fake currency loses value so fast over time that they don't always know what things are truly "worth" because it changes every year.
Just today (May 7, 2024) I got a paper in the mail trying to sell me Leafguard gutters. I read it, but ended up tearing it up. Then I saw this video this evening and thank you for the warning on top of my intuition. Sorry you went through all that.
Thank you so much for this review, I am so sorry you are having to deal with this. My mother was scammed out of 35k from an unscrupulous ‘roofer and handyman’. We reported him and he ended up serving a few months in jail for crimes against the elderly and ordered to pay restitution (she only got 2k back 🤷🏼♀️) but his partner got away Scott free(better lawyer)… Please do contact your state’s attorney general’s office about this. You may also try your local tv station, a lot of stations have a trouble shooter who expose people like this and often they are guilted into doing the right thing. I pray for health and peace for you and husband 💕
I have the same product with the same problems. I have chopped down trees to reduce leaf debris. I have installed drywells to channel water away from ruining my foundation. I never believed the BS that I wouldn't have to clean gutters, but I never thought I would have to deal with problems that did not exist before I installed this product. 😢
I grew up living in a house that had no gutters. My grandparents house had no gutters either. I'm 68 years old and both houses are still there with no gutters and no problems. I bought a house with gutters and always had some kind of problem rotting fascia boards etc. Twenty five years ago I replaced all my fascia boards and hauled those gutters to the scrap yard. It's been 25 years and I've never had any problems. No wet crawl space no nothing. Gutters might be needed for some folks but as far as I'm concerned I don't want them.
When we did new gutters I had commercial grade gutters installed. These are larger and heavier than normal residential gutters. I asked my installer at the time about leaf guards and luckily he quickly talked me out of those.
I totally agree! I installed some myself, and found not only did the make the water overrun the gutters, but when it snows, it piles up and when the melt starts, the water rolls over the edges and washes out around the foundation of my house! I think they are a scam as well. The heavier the rain and the steeper the roof, the more water overshoots the gutters. Just my experience!
Anyone with an once of common sense can take one look at those LeafGuards and tell that if you get really heavy rain the rain is just going to shoot right over those.
Where did you get the LeafGuard gutters to install yourself. They are pressed into shape on site from sheet metal. I would like to know where you can buy it P
My Leaf Guard gutters in California are clogged with wasp nests. There is no way to open them up to clean them out! Can’t recommend these gutters. Very, very expensive and essentially worthless! 😡
Thank you for posting this review. We were just thinking about installing them in our home but after this video we are definitely not going to do it. I'm sorry about your experience. I hope that you get your money back for the gutters AND for the damage these gutters may have caused. Good luck and God bless.
Just had them out to my house for a quote today in 2024. 206 linear feet of roof to cover - original quote was 15K. They give me a spiel about getting me the lowest price, their final offer was 11.5K - $55 a foot (I refused to do any form of in person commitment or get approved for their financing options which would "lock in" my price even though I told them I would be paying in cash for this project). Soooooo many sales tactics/pitches, took 2 hours because I was trying to be nice, but I wanted to yell "JUST TELL ME THE PRICE." They were doing demo's of the gutters by running it under my kitchen sink. Honestly, I thought their product seemed good but was just too much, glad I watched this video, will continue the search
These quotes never state whether is for everything new, gutters, screens downspouts etc …or just the filter, never the less , sounds outrageously expensive !
Thanks for posting this. Never will I ever use this product. Their ads keep chasing me online because I did a Google search for a roofer to fix our home 🤦♂️
It’s absolutely horrible that this was done to you. If it provides you with any solace at all, know that this video just convinced me to not get LeafGuard gutters. Your video is probably helping so many families from making a terrible mistake. Thank you!
We had leaf guard installed and discovered the hard way, that large icicles would form in the winter all along the gutter posing a hazard for anyone walking up to our front door and to our cars when we came in and out of the garage. When we asked how do we fit this situation, the leaf guard rep said we would have to install a heater wire on the roof, which would be thousands of dollars. We had the gutters removed and had some industrial size gutters installed and they can handle rain and snow melt with ease.
I also have a 1900 sq ft ranch home. I had two lengths of gutters installed along the front and back of my home with 4 down pipes for $1500 two years ago. These gutters are open. Leaves and pine straw will collect in the trough during the spring and fall seasons. I have to occasionally get my ladder out and remove leaves. Thankfully, our home being a single level, the gutters are not that high above ground and are easy to clean. Thank you for your video. This is good information for home owners.
Oh my…,I feel so bad for you. What is the matter with that company!!! I’ve never heard of gutters costing that much! I’m glad your water problem was solved. Sorry it cost you so much. Thank you so much for sharing this information. I will never call them and tell everyone I know. Take care.
I'm so sorry this happened to you. I was entertaining looking into these gutters so thank you from the bottom of my heart for saving me the pain. I too am a disabled veteran and we do not have the money to simply "flush down the gutters." LeafGuard should be ashamed and I'll tell everyone I know about your story.
@@Gardens_of_Vanha_Talo_Soumi We have no drain lines in back, and the gutters spilled over the same back there. Our lines in front were fine until LeafGuard gutters clogged them.
I’m happy to hear this. My point was not revenge, but it was to save others from this nightmare. It’s ok if people want to call me “stupid.” I should not have been so quick to believe their lies. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Thank you for posting this. I have 8 rental homes, and my primary residence is 6 stories on one side (on a steep hill, bottom levels are just holding the house up) It costs so much money to have the gutters cleaned I've given a lot of thought to this. It is expensive, but one thinks: okay, but how much do I spend having them cleaned twice a year. I hope there is a good solution out there, but after seeing this - it is clearly not leafguard! Their cheesy adverts already had me scared, but you and your top commenters should be sent to everyone thinking about hiring this clowns.
I'm so sorry you had to go through this egregious rip off! Thank you for warning others, keep fighting. I'll share this with everyone I know, don't let them forget your name!!!💕
I went to the hardware store are bought window screening, cut the screening into strips, used a staplegun to staple the strips of screening to the gutters, and haven't had a problem in over ten years. Every spring, I use a shop vac, and vacuum the top of the screening.
I’m so sorry this happened to you. They came out and gave me an estimate and I knew right away what a scam they were. They guy kept lowering the price and from $10,000 came down to $5,000 and I still said no because I had this gut feeling that if a they had to send a salesman out with a three ring binder trying to convince me why their gutters were the best then they must not be so great if a company has to work so hard to sell it!
THIS!!! I had just two little sections done. At first it was $6000 then "are you willing to sign today" okay then $5000. I said give me the bottom number and cut the BS. "well would you be willing to put a sign in the yard to show the neighbors you had it done for two week" i can do another $500....... how about X Y Z and then the binder came out.... He got to 4300. Told him i would cut him a check for $2k or he can kick rocks. Instantly took the deal which tells me they simply start astronomical and work down and hope for the best - also they keep all the leaves out but they dont work as promised and certainly need cleaned out at every corner
Thank you for your review and I am very sorry this happened to you. No one should have to pay for a terrible product and terrible service. Best of luck to you!
Thank you for being brave enough to post this video in an effort to educate others about the leafguard scam. I am so sorry that this happened to you and your husband. You are doing a great service to other people who may be considering leafguard as an option. Corporate greed is out of control.
Thank you for sharing! The best solution for me was to simply remove all of my rain gutters from my home. I simply let the water fall where it chooses to, and I have landscaped my yard in a manner that won't get messed up from rainfall coming off of the roof. The house looks better and the problem is 100% solved.
@@matthewronson5218 the building code is for the grade to slope away from the house but my concern is you don't want rainwater running off of your roof all the way around your house. That's the purpose of having gutters in the first place.
Thank you for the info, I retired a couple of years ago. I've been slowly doing remodeling projects around the home and was actually going to have LeafGuard come to give a quote.. Guess I'll take a different route. I'm sorry for your troubles..
Oh my gosh, thank you. I'm shopping around this weekend to have some installed. Great timing, I'm grateful and will need your advice. WOWZERS it's as if you don't even have gutters up!
Thank your husband for his service which I'm assuming was Vietnam. And thank you for your video. 15-20 yrs ago, I had the almost-flat roof redone on the house extension and I asked the contractor was there anything I could buy to cover the gutters as I was already in my 60's and wouldn't be able to continue cleaning out gutters myself. I'm white, widowed and live alone. He said I have something that will help you. He came back with the covers that he used gutter screws to attach. No charge, but I gave him money anyways. And a great big hug, crying because of his kindness. This was a tall handsome black guy who lives in a poor area not far from me. Kindness comes surprisingly sometimes, but not from big corporations. I am so sorry you had to go through this, and especially sorry for the loss of your savings. ❤️💕
thank you, I was thinking about LeafGuard. I am really glad you posted this. I was wondering if this was going to be the result and you just proved my worst thoughts.
You, Steve, are an asset to your craft and a blessing to your clients and potential clients. Thank you. 😉
The supervisor in my area was rude. Didn’t know at start that I would be charged extra to have them taken down for roofing and reinstalled.
Yes, by all means, contact your state attorney general's office and file complaints for as many things as they will allow you. I get so TIRED of seeing these commercials during the local, evening news... If it sounds too good to be true, it's usually LeafGuard.
Ugh, there is nothing to good to be true about spending $11k on gutters for a modest home.
Also helps to contact a local news outlet. Some have consumer reporters that go to bat for people and shame these companies into giving refunds.
Yes usually the Commercials are the crap ones.
$11,000 for initial install, with all those discounts mentioned??
That flat out robbery.
It's not robbery when the moron willingly hands you the money.
No kidding! that looks like a sub 2000 square foot single floor home, I have a 3500 sq foot home, and All new commercial gutters were only $4000. I have a second home also about 3500 sq feet that I had a "gutter monster" leaf guard system installed for also about $4000. That system has been maintenance and trouble free for 14 years. I don't even have to clean the gutters out.
Yeah good gutters are a few $k. They straight up robbed the elderly here.
I am so happy for you!
So sorry, no one should have to go through so much disappointment! Especially the elderly. Thanks for letting everyone know, much appreciated!
Paying 11,000$ for gutters was ur first mistake 😂 I hate thieves and scammers but old people are too gullible, there’s nothing we can do to help em
Actually, “old people” are not gullible, they come from an earlier time when people were honest in their business dealings, and many such dealings were done on a handshake.
You convinced me! I'm not going to touch that company with a ten foot pole! Thank you for your honest review and warning.
were did you get the 10 foot pole? i need one for a fence im building.
Use the 10 foot pole to keep Biden away from children
Beware. The other companies are owned by the same people.
Gutter guards don't work
Had a friend who told me her mother had to call a neighbour to come over and help her convince the sales guys to leave, when she said no.
The Leaf Gurad commercials are non-stop where I live. This was an eye-opener.
Exactly!
I feel so grateful for honest testimonials like these.

That’s terrible. So for your troubles. Thank you for letting other people be aware of this issue
Very timely. I’m shopping for new gutters as we speak and this video saved me from even considering leafguard. Thank you, Brenda.
Free labor 😅, nobody works for free. Real talk, we are overcharging so much for the materials we’re gonna make you think we install for free!
Free labor is a red flag!
$10,750 free labor
To install $250 materials . LoL
Or window replacement company’s. Buy 2 and get 2 free. That tells you how much they are ripping you off. No company gives anything for free or they’d be out of business.
You are also paying for the ridiculous marketing budget and all the fake reviews from "satisfied customers."
Don’t forget the salesman’s white shoes, vest, and flash car!

Bravo to the honest gentleman who fixed it for $250!
Be wary of anybody who constantly advertises....it means they're constantly on the hunt for new clients. And, their fees include money to fund those endless ads.
@@msr1116I always say that, too. The more they advertise, the bigger crooks they are. Ad time is expensive.
Good for your husband, some people have no conscience.

@@Matthew_Loutner two contractors, I'm not sure which one did it. I already patched it myself.

That is not the same product shown in this video. The product in this video is a one piece gutter solution that is formed on site.
Or a down pour!
A hard rain and the water just runs right over them and over the side of the gutter...it's a silly concept.
Could you share what gutter guards you used?
THOSE SCREENS CAN CAUSE ICE TO DAM UP AND WHEN IT MELTS IT WILL RUN BEHIND AND UNDER YOUR ROOF and then you have the wood sheeting rotting . My whole porch roof on my house had to be replaced and i had to put new roof shingles on my whole house , 15 thousand dollars because of those screens and i live in SOUTHSIDE VIRGINIA 15 minutes from north carolina border just 4 years of those screens . At least the screens were only put on the front gutter and never istalled on the back gutter
You save today and pay 6 to 10 times more in a few years from now

A tip I saw in another video: Screw the handle of a push broom into the underside of the broom head. Then you brush the leaf guards off from underneath. For 1 story gutters, it lets you leave the ladder in the garage.
I’m so sorry to hear this Brenda. Thank you for sharing your experience and helping the rest of us not to make this mistake.
Thank you for taking the time to share this. I will definitely remember this and pass the info along to my friends and family.

Aloha Brenda -
Thank you so much for sharing your poor experience.
Seems like they spend more money on TV commercials then there product .😢

I worked there when Carsons sold LeafGuard, it wasn't because of the system, it was because Beldon Roofing out of Texas offered him a huge amount of money.

The point is, it didn't cost anywhere near $2100. Even if over $200, then it is well worth it. I'm not a mechanic, but my grandfather once showed me how to change the brakes on most cars and light trucks. He was a retired shop foreman for a Ford dealership and instructed me on what to look for concerning excessive disk wear & caliber rebuilds. This was when you couldn't just watch a UA-cam tutorial. 25 years later, I still replaced the brakes on all my vehicles and my family members' vehicles.
Yeah, what percentage of people out there have access to that specific aluminum from a local scrapyard?
You’d be surprised how much decent gutter gets sent to the scrapyard. New roof? New siding? Might as well get new gutters. Functionally they are fine. Might be dirty and dingy and look bad, but otherwise fine and still do the job they were designed for. So, to answer the question…. literally everyone has access to this at a scrapyard.
how wide were the gutters???
@@Bikes0420 Not a scrap yard, a metal yard that sells new steel, aluminum, and other metals. Most cities should have one or more.
To me it looks like those lines were crushed and tore while they were getting dug up.
@@BrenniJowhere do those downspout lines discharge? Corrugsted rippled piping is inferior, and clogs up with material due to the undulations + holds water for roots to penetrate

I agree. My wife called them for gutter guards. Guy came out and said 5,000. I laughed in his face. I said the same thing you did. 250 to clean that’s 20 years. The guards, which they manufacture, are sheet metal and plastic and screening. The cost to do that is not much. Huge markup on these things.

she is absolutely spot on..theyre junk.
I put some screens on my gutters and found the 6 foot icicles formed. Off they went.
Anyone with an once of common sense can take one look at those LeafGuards and tell that if you get really heavy rain the rain is just going to shoot right over those.
Where did you get the LeafGuard gutters to install yourself. They are pressed into shape on site from sheet metal. I would like to know where you can buy it

Just get large gutters and leave the leaf guard part out.
You'll be better off.
I had to hire an attorney. They rotted my roof in 16 months. Got my refund and repairs. Trashed a truck load of their junk.
Sure you did. pfff

Thank you!
Thank you for posting this 😢I’m so sorry you are dealing with such a terrible situation- will pray for you
We had leaf guard installed and discovered the hard way, that large icicles would form in the winter all along the gutter posing a hazard for anyone walking up to our front door and to our cars when we came in and out of the garage. When we asked how do we fit this situation, the leaf guard rep said we would have to install a heater wire on the roof, which would be thousands of dollars. We had the gutters removed and had some industrial size gutters installed and they can handle rain and snow melt with ease.
And, those heater wires jack up your electric bill quite a bit.
I have heard of the issues but never saw confirmation. Thank you for your video and confirmation to avoid these things!
Free labor, my butt for the amount of money they charged the labor was already automatic 🤦♂️ shame on them
Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m sorry this happened to you and your husband.
Thank you so much for your warning ! God Bless you and yours !
Me too and a neighbor. Started at about $10k for both of us then ended up at about $3500. They do work for me though.
1200 sqf rain gutters should be max $2,000
lets all pass this on and tell everyone and help brenda pass the word. 🌹🌺🌻🌷
Wow, I never dreamed they would make your gutters worse. I see them advertised on tv and it looks like they would work. TY for sharing.
That doesn't sound like a good idea if you get average rainfall..
@@laryanryan9170 It is if there is a proper grade that sheds water away from the home.
No such thing as a maintenance free gutter system. I’ve lived in the wood for over 40 years and learned this valuable lesson early on…
Nice to see a rational thinking person, brother. thank you.
Oh my gosh, thank you. I'm shopping around this weekend to have some installed. Great timing, I'm grateful and will need your advice. WOWZERS it's as if you don't even have gutters up!
LeafGuard have also been advertising in Canada and I was considering them. Thanks for making this video and revealing the scam.
Wow, thank you for sharing! I just had a leafguard salesman over to the house this week! You saved me from making a mistake, it seems.
Never has the content of our character been more important! God bless you.
thank you, I was thinking about LeafGuard. I am really glad you posted this. I was wondering if this was going to be the result and you just proved my worst thoughts.
I'm so happy to hear this. I don't want anyone to experience the worry LeafGuard caused us.
