I've had this amp for a year and had the same trouble. Then I watched all 142 videos of Kings of Tone by Jeff McErlain on True Fire - vintage 2010. Marshalls are "Lead" amps which means they are punchier and have LOTS of treble. The MG50 is no different. Here are the ways to set up the MG50 with every guitar. BTW you have put together a very bright guitar with a very bright amp - try a humbucker. On your guitar, set all knobs to half way, tone and volume, neck pick up only. Set amp to clean, gain to 5. Crank the Bass and Middle to 10 and the Treble to 0. Adjust Gain, volume and master to fit the venue (home, practice hall, gig). Play chords and ensure you can here every note cleanly. Adjust bass, mid and treble for this. Once complete adjust gain so when you set volume to 10 you get a bit of overdrive/distortion. With all guitar knobs at midway you are now able to use the crunch, overdrives 1 & 2 accordingly using the volume and tone knobs on your guitar to adjust to taste. I could not believe how much more tone, distortion and volume control I had on this set up. You need to do this for every guitar / venue combo. The process gets pretty quick when you do it a few times. Enjoy!

Ac10 would be my recommendation. No effects loop but if you’re using clean tones with pedals then that’s not a problem. Sound is rich and harmonic at most levels and you can just about make it work well at room level.

I have the 2x12 version of this and it rips. Swapped the speakers out for some T-75. My tsl 100 kicks ass, but it’s not fun hauling around a half stack to shows haha.
Been debating on picking one of these up for those smaller shows

Get the dsl 40cr and the 6 button foot switch. It has a half power mode and is fine at any level. 👍

I tried out this Amp for a little while - but I had the MG30. I actually liked it. I like these WAY better than the ID Core Amps, which I don't like at all. Bur the amp just didn't quite do it for me, and I have been jonesing for something to give ma an alternative to my Fender GTRX 50. Just for spice. Something different. And yeah - I liked the Marshall, actually. I found some useful tones for the way I play. But still.... not even in the ball-park with my GTX50. So it went into a nice trade package. Rich - I think the Fender or the Katana are both way better options for you. But you'll have to dial them in. Not sure what tone you're chasing.. but you can do a lot with those 2 amps. They're both amazing. And IMO, a huge step up on the ID Core and the MG.

Hiya Rich have you ever tried any of the Blackstar heads where they are part tube part solid state? I have one of the blackstar studio ht20 heads and if you are local enough you are more than welcome to come and try it out as I think it would suit you well. It has great cleans and takes pedals well and it has their isf which means you can sweep from an American to a British sound

Grab a Katana. I love these, and I have used all sorts of amps over the years. I did have a Fender Champion 100 before the Katana, and believe it or not... it blew up. Sitting there playing one day and a flash of blue light and it went (Not saying that will happen to other people, but just what happened to me lol). Guitar Guitar were great with me on that. Only had it 2 weeks, and they took it back (Ironically, I had a Marshall MG15 as a replacement, and as I needed an audio interface, I grabbed a Scarlet 2i4 as well as other things. It came to more than the Fender Amp and Guitar Guitar waved the extra 15 quid or so. Fair play). Honestly, Rich, and don't take this personally, but I think you should just stick with the guitars you have, and amps you already own and just rock out and keep progressing with the playing. I love watching your vids. I am 49 now. I have owned many guitars over the years, but I have always stuck with what I know. I currently own 6 guitars and that's all I need. A Kramer Nightswan, 2 Charvels, and three Ibanez guitars that I absolutely love. I don't need anymore now. I had Marshall stacks in the past too, but as I don't play in any bands currently, I just stick with my Boss Katana MKII 50. My effects are the Boss GT-1000. That's it. I am happy with that. I wish you all the best and keep rocking buddy. I hope you find the amp that is right for you :)

If you’re looking for a Marshall that will deliver a nice deep warm sound with the EQ set right, have a look for a used DSL40C, I prefer the older one to the newer “CR” model, they can be had for as little as £200 and sound great for the money. I sold mine but only because I upgraded to a silver jubilee 😂.

I don’t know enough about amps or guitars to form any sort of opinion, but to my old ears , that sounds pretty good, Marshal always seemed to be the go to amps for all the top bands , but I assume they have to mix and match their pedal setups and amp controls to achieve their sound , I’m lazy and like the digital stuff do the work for me, which is why I go for the spark gear 😂, you’re obviously trying to find “ your sound “ and from what I’ve seen, that takes time and a lot of fiddling, but you’ll get there I reckon, 👍👍🤠🎸, have a good holiday

I think you got the wrong footswitch - you should have a 4 button footswitch for that amp. You will need to adjust the EQ settings to suit the pickups you're using and the gain levels will be different for each different guitar. Give it a couple of days to accustom yourself to getting the tones set up and saving channel settings. Have a look at the user manual and it will help you with presets etc. 😁

It sounds like you need to get on your bike, go to a store, and try a few out. At least then you'll be able to A-B them against each other and pick the best one to try out at home. Having said that - if you're only ever going to play in your office/bedroom, then is a 50/100W amp the best thing for you?. Modellers and plug-ins have come so far that you might be better off getting a good pair of monitor speakers and trying out some of the new amp pedals like the UA or TC Electronic ones, or try some of the Neural DSP models like the Tone King or Morgan Amps ones as pedal platforms.

Sorry Rich i wouldn't be happy with the sound from it. Gone through amps for home use only and a small tube amp that produces a good clean platform for pedals sounds way better then any solid state amp.
I brought a vox ac4 for good price changed tube for vintage ones and changed speaker for celestion alnico gold and its brilliant.
After many pedals you get what you pay for and my chain now is keeley mini compressor, exotic sl drive, strymon el capistan, strymon Bluesky.
I recently brought the universal audio dream 65 and i am well happy with that so i use that now for my amp for ease of headphone use and recording. I wont sell my tube amp tho, still nice to play it .

listen this to my AKG Studio Headphones and something is just not there for me with this amp , maybe a better speaker is needed it does look good I give it that , if I was to build a decent amp for home I would start with the BOSS Katana Mini base boost that to 25 watts 8 inch speaker with effects loop usb c connector to connect to recording software as a interface I don't think BOSS would want to do something that and impact their Katana 50 range and sales , but if they did it would be a big seller, this is a tough market almost a quest for the Holy Grail in the price range and market ,

@@thenovicenoisemaker exactly the biggest drawback with these amps is the speakers their just cheap Chinese shite, that Marshall you just review imagine that with a decent Celestion speaker for example , it's all about keeping cost down, my quest continues, personally I'm reading about interfaces and plugins , my Katana Mini is perfect for travel and practice this is little amp has some balls on it when you hit the brown sound , I just love straight forward amps old school , even with a plugin if I find that one plugin or virtual amp I will just run with that I just can't be arse pissing looking for this or that , maybe its age lol who knows,

Oh, you do make me laugh, mate, I’m surprised anyone will sell anything to you anymore lol, I’m in the same boat. I’ve just got back into the hobby after having a 10 year break. I bought a katana, what was okay but died after two weeks it was on special and it was the EX model sent it back. Didn’t have enough money to rebuy it. Bought a spark Nice idea will make you sound amazing , but you are restricted with the pedals in the app , then I realised I prefer things in stereo , as I said to you before, I ended up with defender champion hundred for the twin speakers not the hundred watt , beautiful clean sound them built my tone with pedals , Maybe if you concentrate on a song you really like and then try to build on that tone you realise how to stack pedals and chase the tone more successfully , I am chasing Pink Floyd sorrow the beginning intro, paid £85 for a big muff, then I’ve got the same tone from my Beringer £25
