Something about Christian Li's playing.... it's hard to describe except in terms of feelings. There is a unique quality of strength without demand, an alive bounce which elevates yet stays grounded, a newness of exploration with wisdom, confidence with youthfulness. Every piece I hear Christian play I'm anew with the piece, and struck with that after all these years these pieces have existed, that a performer can bring so alive and into contemporary listening an interpretation of this/his time. He makes what was, into what is. Music for today.

It's like his interpretation simplifies the music so that ordinary folks can feel the music's emotions and the composer's theme.
Christian thrives on taking risks and does so with great precision. He wants to create musical value at all times, like Vengerov. He consistently performs his interpretations with great integrity, very much like Vengerov. He still strives for great humility to the work of music which he performs, he knows his boundaries and shows respect for his profession and all of his peers. He seems to be greatly unencumbered by an ego, rather drawing all of his cues from, and pouring all of his needs into the music. I see the violin under his chin more nearly as a vehicle rather than an instrument. I think he is destined to become a great conductor, his ability to use subtle, playful, serious and overt body language to conduct the orchestra while he is playing is very advanced no matter what age the performer might be. I hope we get to see him in masterclass with Vengerov as soon as possible.

The first time I listened to this Grieg violin sonata performed by Christian and Laurence, I didn't have too much feeling. I didn't really enjoy violin sonata before, and I listened to more concerto pieces. However, listening to it over and over again (when it's on the Menuhin Competition channel), I fell in love with this piece and the performance, and finally being able to understand the beauty of the different layers and colors from sonatas. Really grateful for being able to listen to it again. Thank you Christian and Laurence, your performance opens a new door for me, as I listen to more sonata pieces now. Looking forward to your future works :)

Yeah it is nearly as good as a mature player's intepretation. Intepretation is always subjektive but normally it increase by age.
