Fats AND Lee Allen...Jesus Christ.....................this band smoked them all and I saw them fifty times easy.......THE BEST EVER...........Fats and Lee are ripping it up somewhere.............
If there was any justice in the world, the Blasters would have sold 50 million records and be playin to millions. But then again,I love em just where they are.
We gave Fats a ride to the Ash Grove in LA where he was opening for Freddie King and playing in Freddie's band. He always remembered a favor..somehow he got us backstage passes to a Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Johnny Otis Show concert at the Hollywood Palladium. This was about 1969 or 70... I was 14 I think (my older bro drove)
Couldn't agree more. No other vocalist can put the heartache in Dave Alvin's songs like his brother Phil. I saw this tour when it played Portland and got to shake Phil's sweat-drenched hand as he left the stage, as well as that of the late, great saxophonist Lee Allen. May Lee and Hollywood Fats rest in peace.
LEE ALLEN AND FATS R.I.P. I'M SO GLAD PHIL FINALLY COOLED IT DOWN AFTER SO MANY DECADES OF ILL LONG LIVE BLASTER PHIL SEEING FATS LIVE SO MANY TIMES WAS THE WAY TO GO FATS AND LEE DID IT RIGHT CARLOS GUITARLOS USA HIGHLAND PARK L.A. 90042
Fats was a one of a kind player. I think we are still trying to digest it all, really. I saw him dozens of times and it's still one of those "did that really happen" kind of things. I know it did because I was there. I sure wish there was more recorded evidence, but this was fun!
According to Paladin bassist Thomas Yearsley, Fats got the call from Phil Alvin to join the Blasters on Sunday December 22, 1985 as he and the Paladins were loading their gear at the San Antonio club where on the previous night they played the last gig of their 4 city tour. Fats really wanted that gig and when he walked back to the van after the call, he was happier than a midget at a mini-skirt convention!
New Live CD 2019 of a July 19,1986 gig with Hollywood Fats came out on vinyl for Record Store Day 2019, then on CD a few months later. It's also on spotify. It's a 2 Disc set called Dark Night Live in Philly. I'm not a promo man just a fan, and as far as I know this CD is the only one with Fats on it.
some pumped-up irony here...love this song...it has to be one of the most fun cautionary tales of all time... i think it makes a nice trilogy with Samson and Delilah and Help You Dream
Fats played with Albert King at one point and King fired him for upstaging him during live shows. Fats was ridiculously talented as you can hear in this vid, and he was just being Fats no matter who he played with. Maybe Albert was a bit insecure?
Fats was a perfect fit for the Blasters

I was at that show in San Antonio at Los Padrinos? Use to see a lot of bands there
Sounds really good! Just discovering this great band, even though I saw them open for Queen back in 1980.
Got to see the Blasters in the late '80s with this lineup...to paraphrase "Johnny B Goode", "Oh my but what that boy could play"...
Just ridiculous. Amazing. What can you say, it was a golden group.
The Very Very & Best Of This "Rock`n Roll Will Stand !
Michael Mann just blows out the gaskets on this one. So fine.
Fantastic band!
Before he was a Blaster, I saw Fats play with James Harman, and he always made it look E-Z!
They sure are cookin. Driving sound and some hot Berry licks and ripping sax. Dave at his best too. A happy time✌️😎
Dave had left. Hollywood Fats was the lead guitarist. But the band still killed it.
The late, great Michael Mann.
Hollywood Fats had great tone!

Fantastic clip of Fats, although it would have been nice if the Rock 'n Roll Evening "News" had spelled his last name correctly.

I love the blasters and Hollywood Fats but it's sounds like Hollywood Fats it's playing to fast..they are not syncing
it think it is intentional, I mean, it is his style, he plays ahead to give the music a strong push. For sure he is very different than Dave
