    Wow, around 29:25 he even remembered that the hobbits had called Aragorn by the nickname Strider in the first movie. You can really tell how invested in the story they are, and I can't say that I blame them since it is one of the greatest stories ever told, after all.

    The fire swamp with the dead bodies floating in it looks like some of the battlefields of World War 1 that J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, and others of their generation had to fight on. Not all of the battlefields were waterlogged and full of corpses, but some of the most deadly battlefields were, and thousands upon thousands of veterans carried the memory of them for the rest of their lives.

      There’s so much meaning in the line “War will make corpses of us all.” To not make war, but also not allow those who would make war and commit atrocities to go unchecked can be a very difficult line to walk.

    The actor who played Aragorn broke 2 toes when he kick the helmet…… the cry of pain was real.

    • @lorehammer40k4
      @lorehammer40k4 Рік тому +24

      And he really deflected a thrown dagger during the fight with Lurtz for real, and he spent the entire production carrying his sword around with him, and he ended up buying Arwen's horse and giving it to her riding double because she ended up loving the horse so much, and Viggo came up with the tune for the song he sings at the end as the King using Tolkien's lyrics, and Christopher Lee was supposed to scream when Wormtongue stabs him but he said it was too unrealistic because Christopher Lee was a spy in WWII who presumably has heard what it really sounds like when someone is stabbed in the back, and the majority of the Men of Rohan were actually women since they asked for people who could bring their own horse and ended up getting mostly women to respond, the very first scene that Viggo Mortensen filmed was the fight with the Nazgul at Weathertop, and Gimli actually voiced Treebeard, and the daughter that Sam had with Rosie that he is holding at the end of the series is actually the actor's real life daughter (there are like 15 examples of using people's real children in roles like that). I could go on all day.

    • @generoberts9151

      Yeah there are a few injuries. I think Orlando cracked a couple ribs filming too. Viggo got busted up a couple times. The guy that played Lurtz played a couple characters in the 3 movies including the Witch King. He’s a big Samoan looking dude. I bring this up because one of him and Viggo’s friendly greetings were “head butts”. Viggo did this so many times on set they had to treat him for concussion protocol….lol.

  • @magicbrownie1357
    @magicbrownie1357 Рік тому +24

    One of the author's primary points was to illustrate the power of mercy. Bilbo and Frodo both showed mercy to Gollum/Smeagol. And likewise, King Theoden showed mercy to Grima, instead of killing him. Their acts of mercy had powerful and far-reaching consequences and changed the very outcome of the War of the Ring and the fate of Middle Earth.

    • @stevechurch4728
      @stevechurch4728 Рік тому +2

      it is worth pondering that when Bilbo spared Gollum in the goblin caves , that led Gollum, who went looking for the "Nasty" Hobbit Baggins, to the land of Mordor where he was captured by the Dark lord and under torture revealed the fact the One Ring had indeed been found. till that point the lord Sauron was unaware of the Rings whereabouts. Had Bilbo slain Gollum when still underground the ring may have remained "hidden" from Sauron for hundreds of years slowing down the evil ones plans of conquest. Gollum was the spark that lit the flame of war, Sauron gambled he could use his Wraiths to secure the ring before the forces of light could muster any resistance to thwart his reign of terror. perhaps Sauron had he remained ignorant of the Ring would of moved more cautiously and more thoroughly in his preparations to smother Middle earth in Darkness or indeed would he have moved at all?

    • @magicbrownie1357
      @magicbrownie1357 Рік тому +2

      @@stevechurch4728 Perhaps. But the primary reason Bilbo could remain largely unaffected by evil of the One Ring was because he did NOT kill Gollum. Smeagol murdered Deagol to obtain the ring and immediately the evil will of the ring possessed Gollum and dominated his destiny. Taking the ring with mercy instead of greed proved to be critical in how Bilbo was able to lead a relatively normal life afterward and it also afforded Bilbo the option to give it over freely to Frodo when he left. Had he obtained the ring as Gollum had, there is little doubt in my mind Bilbo would have met the same evil fate as Gollum.

    The wizards/ishtari visited Middle earth at different times, the blues went east and were never seen again. Saruman the white studied the scripts and history and books of sauron and his captain, morgoth (the most powerful of the gods/spirits who added corruption into the creation of the world) and he became enticed and corrupted. He had always been jealous of gandalf the grey (who was known to be wise) who in his eyes had no reason to come to middle earth when saruman himself was wise enough to do the job entrusted to him. Radhagast the brown ended up getting lost in his own little world with the creatures within middle earth, partially forgetting his mission.
    It's funny how both subservant spirits (the maiar) of the valar (Godlike spirits that created Middle earth) belonged to the blacksmith, hence saruman and sauron knew each other well at one point, having forgotten with their long time in middle earth and the shells/bodies they now wore, well, sauron no longer had a body, hence he needed the ring which he imbued some of his power into when he tricked calebrimbore the mightiest of elven smiths, into creating them for good.

      When gandalf the grey died fighting the balrog (and killed the balrog) his spirit went back west to the same lands the elves were returning to, the undying lands. One of your comments was very interesting: You mentioned how much the characters in the story love to drink alcohol. I was an ancient history major, and your comment made me think. Tolkien based his cultures and characters on Medieval Northern European culture. And, I think one could argue that Northern European culture has a particular historical connection to alcohol. Even today (at least until recently), the UK has the highest alcohol consumption per person. And I notice that Tolkien has only certain people drink wine (Denethor, for example). He focuses on ale (the more Germanic choice).

    I like how they keep commenting how beautiful New Zealand is, no one really knew the country before LOTR went there to film.... Its awesome to see how beneficial fantasy movies can be outside of the story itself and the box office earnings

    It is fun to see how our two young men get all wrapped up in the Lord Of The Rings series. They catch on uickly to the plot and the names of the characters. Will enjoy seeing them see he third and final episode of the Ring series. The reactions and obvious tension they show in watching this exvcellent trilogy as rathewr taxing on their nerves and energy. LOL The final battle will have them griping the arms of their chairs. Mybe you should offer them a sweet treat after that.. Think they would find the movie The Abyss a good movie to watch. Good video.

    Yes, Faramir is very different than his brother, Boromir. Faramir is stronger, or wiser, but their father can't see it. It's rather a toss-up in my view because Boromir spent many months with Frodo and the One Ring, and it's not until Sam tells Faramir the truth about his brother's attack on Frodo as well as Faramir seeing how Frodo was drawn to the Nazgul that he finally understands.
    Faramir is able to resist and let Frodo go b/c he knows of his brother's strength, hears Sam's words about Boromir's death, and sees the influence of the One Ring (almost giving it to Nazgul) on Frodo that he finally understands. It's clear that the time spent even near the ring was the difference in their actions when around the ring.

    Do you see this in your own language or is it translated for you, or do you understand English? The dialog is so precise sometimes, even an English speaker can miss a fine point.

      @@Cinephilesreact786 Thanks! I wonder how they captured the words of Tolkien, who was a very wordy writer, in a translation. For example, much of the dialog is far above how normal people talk, right? I mean, when Saruman says to King Theoden, "What is the house of Rohan but a thatched barn where brigands drink in the reek and rats roll on the floor with the dogs? The victory at Helm's Deep does not belong to you, Théoden, horsemaster! You are a lesser son of greater sires." I mean, that's more than a mouthful. Nowadays, most people would say "Hey Theoden, you're a smelly redneck and didn't beat me except for them trees!"

      He did tell them before watching 'Fellowship...' that LOTR was a trilogy, but they didn't grasp that it was one homogenous story, probably thinking they were three seperate stories but set in the same world and characters.

    @CinePhiles React -- The arm-rests of the chair of especially Naveed are too far apart. There is an easy mechanism under the seat to shorten them. So that Naveed can rest his arms comfortably.

    The ents and the entwives.. Once upon a time thru lived together, until the ents wanted to live in deep forests while the entwives wanted to cultivate gardens and such. Then sauron came along and burned the area where the entwives lived and non were seen since although in the book its speculated that one entwives visited the shire but as Tolkien himself said, the entwives were lost
