My name is Jennifer Holkem and I am the founder of Save Your Thyroid, a community for patients seeking nonsurgical treatment for thyroid nodules. In 2014, I was first diagnosed with thyroid nodules and advised to have my fully functional thyroid removed. I fought for 5 years to avoid surgery, potential complications, and a lifetime of thyroid medication. After doing my own research and advocating for myself, I underwent a nonsurgical thermal ablation procedure called radiofrequecy ablation (RFA). A lack of patient-oriented resources inspired me to become an educator and advocate for my fellow patients. I am passionately committed to helping other patients avoid unnecessary surgery and preserve their quality of life. There are now several FDA cleared nonsurgical treatment options for thyroid cysts, nodules, and cancers that are supported by a tremendous amount of scientific research. This channel is a resource for anyone seeking more information on this topic.
Exploring Epigenetics and Root Causes: Susan Robbins
Today's episode is a bit different, and I think you'll love it. We’re diving into epigenetics-how your lifestyle influences your genetic expression. This topic is key to understanding root causes and optimizing lifestyle interventions, particularly for thyroid patients.
Today, I'll introduce you to my new friend, Susan Robbins. Susan is an expert in epigenetic human performance coaching and host of the podcast “Everyday Epigenetics: Raw, Real, Relatable.” She’s a Level 2 Certified Apeiron Zoh DNA coach and a Precision Health Alliance (ph360/Shae) coach. Since 2015, Susan has been helping people optimize their health and was even named 2023 PHA Coach of the Year. She previously worked with TruDiagnostics to interpret epigenetic age test results for clients globally.
In this episode, I share my recent health journey, focusing on my latest experience with perimenopause and low T3 levels (active thyroid hormone). We discuss epigenetics and how lifestyle choices impact genetic expression, as well as the value of DNA testing and personalized health strategies. Susan and I talk about finding our health flow, the impact of workout timing and stress on well-being, and the limitations of DNA in diagnosing thyroid issues. We explore T4 to T3 conversion and our experiences with T3 only thyroid medication, emphasizing the need for personalized health solutions and being proactive in our wellness journey.
Why I'm working with Susan: Susan’s approach blends cutting-edge science and compassionate coaching, drawing on her personal past experiences with autoimmune issues, Lyme Disease, and the stress of a career in law enforcement. She helps people find the optimal path to health by understanding their unique genetic makeup.
After the episode, be sure to check out her podcast, where she explores how lifestyle impacts genetic expression and quality of life.

Denielle shares her experience with treating a thyroid nodule using microwave ablation (MWA). After experiencing severe hair and weight loss, she was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and a thyroid nodule about eight years ago. Weighing 70 kg, she dropped to 45 kg due to the condition. Denielle chose a non-surgical option primarily for aesthetic reasons, as she had previously developed keloids fro...

Jen, please don't take this wrong. I find you pretty.
Please Ms.Jen. Can you tell me which doctors would be best to treat cancer thyroid nodules. Thank you.
Does he do this procedure on cancer nodules too
*Dr. Aboda* On UA-cam help me get rid hashimotos with his nature remedies
Hi Jen, Thanks so much! Do you know if this is available in the UK at all? Thank you for spreading awareness about all of this.
So what’s the point of having and showing and introducing a guest,if you are not going to let them speak or your video is Not long enough, kills the whole purpose of making the video
It's to show you what we discuss so you'll watch the full episode. 😏
It's NEVER ok to say it's NOT cancer to anyone. Even using the Bethesda process , IT CAN DEFINITELY STILL BE CANCER LATER OR EVEN YEARS LATER
Agreed, saying this for long years despite the initial subjective statements.
To we have the capability to see when a genes expression has been turned on or off? Are we able to detect what caused the specific expression?
Would this be a good option for someone with 7 nodules and for a nodule that is 2.4 x 3.1 x 3.5 cm, causing issues with swallowing?
Thanks
I have the same problems, if I lay down on my right side I can breathe better also if I raise my hands up to tied up my hair I can’t breathe!!!! But in 3 months I have a non-surgery ARF THANK GOD!!!
This is great news. I have a very large toxic multi nodular goitre and I DO NOT want surgery. Are there any doctors that perform this in the UK?
Thanks for sharing your story Jen, God bless!
I have toxic nodular goitre and don't want to get my thyroid removed. My endo is not interested in RFA so not sure where to go from here.
I have 15mm complex cyst on my right thyroid so I need surgery
Can a recurrent small nodule be treated by RFA ?
Who can afford this
Thanks for the calming info. My nodule was detected when getting a carotid artery sonogram. There is no indication from the outside or swelling. I believe my GP is erring on the side of caution since he said it was on the larger size..... Thank you!
may we know what where the characteristics of your thyroid? mine is isoechoic, composition: solid, no folicular calcification, wider than tall 3cm plus wide, surface smooth
How much american dollars 😢😢😢pls i have a 2.5 cm nodules its causing a lot of pain
Please help me Can you do Surgery on me to remove the lymph node please
Thyroid cancer removed in 2019 five years later I did a ultrasound and found six lymph nodes occur in my neck. I feel horrible.
I have nodules but normal TSH levels. However, I have lost lots of weight (50lbs)and i eat like a horse. Do nodules still cause abnormalities if TSH level are "normal? "
I just had thyroid nodule rfa on 11/11/2024 on 5.8 cm nodule. The procedure went very well. It took about an hour, and I was given local anesthesia and valium. I had minimal discomfort. The doctor had told me that because of the size of the nodule, I may need another treatment. I'm so happy that I decided to do this instead of the surgery.🎉
Will my thyroid nodule reduce its size?
Thank you for this information!
hi my wife have 2.5mm solid noddle in right side from 6 months there is no pain doctor says for surgery i am very worried about my love give me suggestion please ❤❤
The more I learn about my issue, the more confused I am on making up my mind on a decision of which way to go. Surgery, RFA, medicine, radioactive iodine…. 😢
Thank you for bringing hope! I've had my thyroid removed by RAI ( radio active Iodine) I to have issues with Dr. that either don't understand how important it is to take Full measure on other blood testing for labs . And now a mess swelling ,hard to swallow, digestive issues, brain fog, etc. Thank You again Allic from Okla.🦋
Great Information you are really helping for those are very much worried
Hi Jen - is there anyone in the USA that performs cryoablation?
I’ve done my research. I’d rather be dead than live without at least some of my thyroid gland.
The left side of my thyroid is calcified
Hi, can you please tell me at which hospital in Philippines does Dr Lutanco do this procedure ?
So frustrating getting indeterminate finding. Makes me worry and I am making thyroglobulin antibodies and some nodes are flared up a bit. Just wanted to know and now have to wait a month to get into a surgeon. Looking forward to just knowing what it is or isn’t.
What to do?
Updates? How do you feel how are your antibody bloodtest etc.? Thanks for sharing
I'm happy I came across this video! Thank you for sharing your story ❤️. I have a 5cm nodule on my left side and my thyroid levels have always been normal. I live in Canada and RFA has just started to become available and I have my appointment in 4 weeks. How long was your recovery after RFA? Were you able to go back to your regular activities a few days or a week after?
Do we know how big his nodule was?
I had RFA & my nodules had shrunk significantly after 3 months. Very pleased. My last 1 year follow up in 2 months. Can’t wait to see how much more shrinkage. I feel good 😊
I had RFA 6 days ago.., still in pain . Is that normal
Thank you for making this channel and these videos. I am finally feeling hopeful about healing my nodules. I have learned so much from you and the other patients and doctors in these videos. Thank you again. I don't use Facebook but I might start so I can join your group. You and other patients are the first people to have the same symptoms as me and I am so happy to have found you all. God Bless!
...I had 1 and less than a month u need to have another one, why?
Lack of estrogen.
Have been looking in the Nashville area too. My endocrinologist says let's watch it. I DO NOT WANT TO WATCH IT! I want to do something about it.
My provider, who recently got rfa certified, told me my nodules are not suitable for rfa treatment. Are there other non surgical options that are worth considering? Her recommendation is a partial thyroidectomy, which if I must do then fine, but id like to avoid if I can.
Which clinic in antaliya? What is the name please?!

Do nodules keep your thyroid from working properly?😊
They can. If they are secreting excess hormones, then you can become hyperthyroid. Also, anecdotally, many patients with large nodules (that were not secreting excess hormones) found that their thyroid function improved after treating their thyroid nodule. I have asked some doctors about this and they believe it may be that nodules can create a bit of a physical roadblock. Unfortunately, I don't have any data to support this, just patient feedback.
