I want to be especially clear and delineate my words carefully so that there is no confusion as this stylist is not entirely wrong. Hair can become damaged from prolonged exposure to moisture (wetness) of the hair and scalp. If you DC overnight, your hair holds sweat after working out for hours afterwards, or if your wash n go is still wet at the roots by the end of the next day, you are contributing to damage to the protein and lipid complex of the hair and causing inflammation and proliferation of the scalp. Continued hair issues like this can ultimately contribute to breakage, deterioration of the hair, mildew, fungal infection, and ultimately mold... Yes, mold I have seen this happen in one extreme case. This is a very nuanced concept and allowing your hair to air dry completely within a matter of a few hours is fine. The issue is solely a matter of hair or scalp being fully saturated in water and not drying (or in a state of drying) in a reasonable time. If you have hair that stays wet for a long time either due to porosity or the thickness of your hair preventing evaporation via aeration, then I agree with her that you should use light to moderate heat to prevent damage. The misinformation that I'm referring to in the video is her referring to the concept of "dry rot", her suggesting that the shed hair shown in the video is a symptom of dry rot, and her fear mongering air drying entirely.
Thanks for being thorough. Was just about to ask about wash and gos. I know it's generally best to dry and set those with a hooded dryer or diffuser. And to at least make sure the roots dry.
Well said and understood that because I remember that from my Carefree Curl teen years. That’s the main reason why I don’t like going to bed with my hair soaking wet or wearing any type of plastic covering over my hair for more than half an hour. It literally gives me the creeps. My hair is and scalp are naturally very dry, so, it’s usually not damp long enough in the air to cause dry rot. I sometimes have to add water when wet styling it. Thanks for your educational information.
You didn't know that black people never had healthy hair before Uncle Funky's Daughter and Dyson blow-dryers??? Where you been??? But seriously, between this and having strangers tell me I can't use Shea butter in my hair, I'm just done.
@@shamf9672 Ikr! I do Bantu knots for my daughter (add some hair location and all) if others can see that he's not bashing the stylist but showing her her error. Too many UA-camrs do bad things for clicks...
As someone that’s worn their hair natural their whole life, there is some truth to what she is saying. The hair will become weak/stretchy/mushy like plant roots if it is constantly wet. If you don’t like defusing for a lot time or if you have trouble keeping it from getting frizzy, defuse the hair after an hour or when the hair has dried enough to have a cast on it or 80%dry.
@@ReisePiece I can see where you coming from. There are a few black women, who thinks that they don't need any shorts of leave-in for the hair to maintain (same as when doing protective style) once they person is knowledgeable somewhat, they would know that they should not just get/give a shampoo service without nothing added. And further more the young lady's hair is just thinning at the tip (Uneven) just need a bit of clip up and that's it. Hair care takes time and patience, not many want to admit that, they watch some YT videos that speaks on growth and dry, and this and that, but don't pay attention to what they eat, water intake, towels they use, products, etc.
@@ReisePiece then again when last did the person get a deep con... That is another story by itself. I mostly air dry, 95% of the time. I towel boot after I rinse the conditioner out, then apply my leave-in lotion in small sections, my Jamaica Castor oil. The water is already acting as my liquid (LMO) the moisture is the hair lotion and the Castor oil for the 'O' I am passionate about hair care 😍😍
Yea met a stylist like this when I first became an adult and went to the salon as a natural and by myself...she told me to get a straighter result from flat ironing to basically rip my ends with the flat iron, it's ok if those are ripped out they were already weak ends and needed the purge...and my dumb naive behind believed her and copied her teqniue for over 3 years 🙄😅
Thank you, I taught my daughters to dry their hair with a tee shirt, then we just twisted it accordingly. They are grown with amazing heads of hair with the curl patterns God blessed them with.🙌
Y’all said the same shit about the natural hair journey and now look. Please stop taking your simple minded experiences and assuming everyone is dealing with the same situation as you. If it doesn’t apply then let it fly. Y’all be killing me fr. Like stfu and scroll, tf?
She is the reason why I don’t go to Hairstylist, they’ll tell you whatever they want to get your money, having no idea how to properly care for natural hair.
The key is to make sure your hair dries completely especially when you have thick hair . You want to prevent mildew. Natural hair does not need intense heat
How about that…soon as she said that I uttered, “girl hush”. She acts like she’s the two young ladies that discovered that 2,000 year old math problem. And she was being dishonest on top of all that.
IKR. Doesn't matter how healthy your hair is, they will find you're doing something wrong. One made a big deal of detangling my hair ..... I asked her for the comb and I had my short 3b hair detangled in less than a minute. My friend walked out the salon cos she was about to burst out laughing cos she can also detangle my hair in less than a minute. They wanna tell me how to grow my hair ..... I don't want long hair guuuurrrrl.
Right? Her hair looks fantastic. It's long, thick, and full all the way to the hairline with no signs of breakage that I saw. That stylist had to invent a problem to try to make her feel bad for not coming in more. Dry rot? Lol
I really like you because you really know. Blow drying damaged my hair until I went to a salon in Ghana. I was point blankly told to stop blow drying my hair. My hair is so much better now.
Can you tell me the relevance of how she didn’t learn it in school so it must not be true? Trichology is the study of hair, and in hair school we touched on it VERY BRIEFLY… does that mean there isn’t more information available in regards to the study of hair? Schools don’t know everything nor do they teach everything. Poorly washing your hair and then sleeping on it while it is damp will absolutely cause mold to grow on the hair. Maybe instead of thinking she is lying, do the research first?
@Bora Cylwa TV She would have to have proof or some substantiated evidence for her to make those claims, not me. I was natural for seven years and slept in "damp hair" almost every night with NO mold AT ALL. My hair grew just past my waist in that time-frame. I also know many others who never had that issue. If someone is growing mold on their hair/scalp, they should check their health and blood status before saying it has a "topical" root cause. As far as trichology, to quote yourself "they don't teach you everything in school". Damp hair is NOT the sole cause of those types of conditions.
I’m a master licensed hairstylist of over 20 years. Air drying your hair is perfectly safe and less damaging. Your hair can only get molded if you allow it to sit wet underneath a sew in or with added braids 🤦🏽♀️
@@hapichampagne5916 put your products in it, brush it like you’re about to put it in a pony tail but then don’t… let it dry more then finish while it’s still a little damn and flexible but is going to dry fully when it’s up and you won’t have that problem
This the only man that has taught me how to do and care for my own hair! I’ve been watching him since he did his first set of yarn braids and BAAAAABBBBYYYYY He’s a true blessing when it come to loving our crowns! Salute to you and Thank you!!!!!❤❤❤❤
I have been air drying my very long hair for 57 years, not once have i experience hair rot or any of the things mentioned. I wear my hair natural, is curly and healthy. Thank you for clarifying !
It reminds me when I tried to go natural YEARS ago. I told my stylist n she was like “no, being natural will damage your hair.” After another year I realized she didn’t want to lose a customer $
Had a stylist tell me that when I was 14. I couldn’t take her seriously because she had fried and permed my hair so bad I could count the strands with one hand😅
I absolutely won't stop air drying my hair. It's flourished with the wind God moves. Nothing better than the wind in your clean, stretched, damp hair while it's drying.
I’ve let my hair air dry and it really doesn’t help my hair at all. It causes my hair to smell musty, and also causes sores on my scalp. Using heat occasionally doesn’t hurt the hair and using low heat , can beneficial.
That's because the natural yeast on the scalp proliferates in moist environments. An excess in yeast on the scalp can cause conditions like dandruff, itchiness and an odd odor. It's best to blow dry the roots even if you don't blow dry the rest of your hair in order to prevent these issues as it'll keep the yeast under control. The goal should be to not allow the scalp and roots to remain damp for very long.
Same! I found out that I have fungal dandruff a couple of years ago which explained why air drying made my scalp smell strange. An anti fungal shampoo, a good heat protectant, and a quick little blow dry helped me so much.
This is so valid! Any person that studies hair knows that air drying is totally safe for literally all textures and hair types. Dry rot is a fungus that effects wood via a fungus, not hair!
People wore Gerry curls and other wet styles. Dumb…Stupid as can be. My grandmother never eva blow dried any hair. As a matter of it was “platted” until dry.
I’m a Cosmetologist and I can’t believe she would say air drying is bad for hair. How does she think our hair dries for tens of thousands of years before heat styling 🤔
That's my point. There was a time when all blacks had was Vaseline, olive oil, any soap you bath with as shampoo. Now it cost a arm and a leg for products that "snake oil ". The problem is only black buy into this BS . Compare black hair products prices with white hair products, then decide who's being PLAYED. 🖤
I have locs and my hair is long and super thick. Air drying COULD cause some mold if not careful but that is because of the tangles and air not flowing as easily but never have I heard that about loose natural hair having that problem. She wants to pressure people into extra services and costly blow outs!
I think the problem comes when you leave your hair wet all day every day because it never dries. Wet hair tends to be more fragile and prone to breakage. It’s best to do styles that allow the hair to air dry quickly if possible. If not low heat on a hood dryer or diffuser is probably better than allowing the hair to be wet for hours on a regular basis.
Air drying DOES NOT damage your hair. The constant manipulation DOES! This includes improper detangling, "protective" styles, ponytails, use of rubber bands, etc. Tools like diffusers are used to reduce frizz, allowing your hair to dry in clumps, but aren't necessary. Mold/mildew occur when a person bounds their WET hair in a ponytail for weeks without removal. As always, do what's best for you! 🧡
You wear a ponytail in a bun with your own hair but you shouldn't try to brush the hair straight because it's curly hair and it's not going to be straight. Wearing a ponytail is fine just as long as you let the hair do what it naturally does on its own.
She’s advertising or sponsored by a hair utilities line. Air drying can make your hair a little dryer, sure, but castor oil, rose oil or a trusted leave in conditioner can easily fix that.
Thank you for speaking up. I can say that my hair had been thriving since I stop using relaxers and have started use Ayurvedic herbs in my hair regimen. Thank you for educating us all!!!❤
How do you trim your hair ? My hair is fine texture that it seems to not like the heat but I love my press outs . I am now embarking on going heat free to heal the damage . My hair is in a short bob . Any suggestions appreciated. 😊
This information is SO MISLEADING. There is nothing better than natural drying. It may not always be convenient if there is a time constraint. Hair will not mold by drying naturally. I would like for her to prove her newfound facts.
Thank you sooooo much for correcting what she said. When I first saw this, I was like, "Omgosh 😢, whattt?!!!" Then, I thought, "wait a minute, I've been air drying my natural hair for 6 years and never had the issues she stated."
“Dry rot” took me tf outtt!! 😂😂😂 as a stylist…she is one that unfortunately my clients come to me and complain about…and are finally relieved to meet one of the few elite stylists that care about ALL hair…not just our pockets 😮
I guess the client had her hair in braids. I did do a girls hair and she literally had mold in her hair. She was a little girl and her hair was so stink.
@@hopehendrick869 Really? Wow, I get the same type of request from UA-cam for other vids as well. Don't know why, but anyway, my quote was from the hilarious late comic, Paul Mooney, during one of his many stand-up routines. I hollered!😂😂. But there was a lot of deep truth in his statement, especially considering that many Black women and children were forced to wear rags to cover their hair since it was deemed unpleasant and unattractive by the enslavers. Nevertheless, Black people still have the most versatile hair on the planet.💯
As a 4c girl with waist length hair (who only gets a silk press once a year if I feel like it) for the last seven years I have been fully natural my hair has air dried on 9 chunky twist with leave in conditioner and jojoba oil and I have NEVER had a problem.
Same, I don’t have waist length hair but it’s past my shoulders and I do the same thing after every hair wash and I have never had a problem and I’ve been natural since 2015
YESSSS SIS!!! Better work with your waist length 4c!! I swear ladies if you want long hair, it’s all in air drying/keeping heat to a minimum, washing consistently, the chunky twists, leave-in conditioner is the gamechanger & key to retaining length, and oil to prevent your ends from snapping off! My hair is down my back after getting a big chop 5 1/2 yrs ago.. & I’ve only started this routine like 2 years ago! Mad I didn’t start sooner.. my hair would’ve been waist length by now too! 😆
Great that you came back with more. Thank you! I agree with you on both the video and this statement. As a Hair Extensions Company Owner who owned a Salon as well, I have been of the belief that natural drying of my hair especially during warmer seasons is best. As a tennis player I always would shampoo and head out to the courts daily with my hair wet as the Houston heat would dry it in under 30 min flat! Of course playing with a cap on in that same Houston heat would cause my roots to be wet although my hair was not drenched like so many other girls. I have very healthy hair and never suffered any damage from my practice of natural drying. I did have to be careful to add conditioner to the ponytail and especially my ends as they were always exposed to the hot sun which would fry it if unprotected! I noticed sometimes my clients with very thick natural hair would be the ones with the moldy smell but never a “dry rotting”. We did take extra caution and provided education for those very thick hair clients who chose braiding and didn’t want their hair heat dried.
Some people don't realize that you can develop a yeast infection on the scalp from constantly sleeping with wet hair. People who do this tend to have flakes/ dandruff, but it's the yeast infection. There's an easy fix: if you want to keep going to sleep with it wet, you can purchase or get prescribed Ketoconazole shampoo. Never go to bed without allowing the roots of the hair to at least become damp not wet.
“Letting your hair air dry everyday…” sis no black woman is washing their hair everyday. As for the dry rotting 😂😂 I guess all of the natural girlies w/ the bouncy, voluminous dry over night twist/braids out have dry rotting hair. If that’s the case then I want that 😂.
I’m a Black man and I wash my hair everyday because I’m a swimmer when timing is right. I blot/press down on my hair (never rub) until most of the water is gone/stops dripping and put in organic cold expeller pressed unrefined coconut oil (always purchase in a glass jar, never plastic), and I let it air dry after I twist, not braid it, in the direction of my curl pattern, making sure to focus on the ends since that’s where the most dryness/breakage occurs. I started doing this in college after I decided I wanted to swim for the Olympics and learned how to take care of my 4C hair after I decided to stop perming/bleaching it two years prior because it all fell out at a play while my white girlfriend’s hair did nothing. And to keep the length, I’d just cut off the thinner parts (the ends) of my twists. In the beginning, Before I started using organic cold expeller pressed unrefined coconut oil from a glass jar, I was using Trader Joe’s pure jojoba oil (pronounced hoe-how-bah) because jojoba oil has similar molecular and chemical properties as sebum, the oil that is naturally excreted out of our scalp. It’s light and smells WONDERFUL.❤ But I don’t know much about combining jojoba and coconut oil. Do your research before combining the two-they MAY cancel each other out.😕
I used to do a wash and go daily (Dickey method) and let it air dry. When I say my hair was SOFT??? I low key miss it but ya girl only has time once a week now
I wash my hair daily because I have germ issues. People tell me it’s bad for years but my hair is fine. I blow dry it daily as well. I wish I didn’t have to but I can’t sleep unless it feels clean on the sheets.
Lol i mean isn't that essentially what it is? Some ppl want that consistency for whatever styles they're attached to ig but for those who care about hair health it's not for us.
Heat trained is a thing😅 it could lead to damage if not done correctly. Heat trained hair should will take less heat to straighten and still return to its curly state with no issues
Thanks brother . I soak my natural hair just so I can sit in the sun and allow it to sun dry, our hair grows towards the sun in a type of photosynthesis.
As a natural hair stylist .. I PREFER to blowdry my OWN hair..mainly bc it's easier to deal with after washing. But no ma'am, you do not have to blow dry your hair. It can definitely cause heat damage. I don't blow dry most of my clients. I hate to see people spread misinformation bc of their own personal preference
SIR THANK YOU FOR SAYING THIS! I've been natural for 30+ years and the stuff I have heard from so-called professional stylist is mind-blowing, gaslighting and money grubbing 💯💯💯💯
Blowing it dry with heat dries the hair out. Low heat is less damaging. Yes. These are people who want you to pay money for them to do your hair. So sad. He is right about gaslighting people. Wow people are so sneaky.
Agreed. Im confused about the mold comment. How does hair get mold from being wet for a few hours. Mold develops from moisture over super long periods of time.
AS A HAIRSTYLIST IN GENERAL…..It does not matter what we do! Everything is damaging to the hair! Even sun light is damaging! Protective styles are damaging, heat is damaging, if you overload your body on vitamins that can be damaging! Everybody should just do what works for them and their hair! It’s no right answer to healthy hair especially African American hair!
By living u're approaching death year after year, but there are things that u can do while u're alive that will kill you faster Putting all these things at the same damage level is ignorant. Especially as there are numerous scientific evidence on what causes MORE damage universally to everyone
I only air dry my hair and its grown by leaps and bounds. The only time I use heat is with a heating cap for deep conditioner. Period. Thank you. for giving solid information.
Heat destroys. The more heat you subject your hair to, the worse you damage it. I quit blow-drying it about 50 years ago, and I've never had any problems like she described. I'm 70, and I have silver hair to my waist. It's strong and healthy.
I’m 21 and blow drying my hair makes it dry and crunchy! I like having it air dry so it can be a little damp for my leave in conditioner. People need to stop making things confusing
Facts. I always wrap my hair and dry over night. Even when I do a silk press I let my hair air dry first. Never heard of this dry rot mess in my 40 years hair hits my bra strap. She is tripping.
Exactly. If her client’s been air drying like she says, then I’m sold! Because her hair looks very healthy. That little tuft of hair she held up just looked like shed hair to me🤷🏾♀️
It looks like her client was keeping it tied up when letting it dry, which caused the mold and mildew in the hair. I used to wet my hair everyday and put it into a high ponytail. After a while I noticed that my hair did have an odor because it never actually dried from day to day. In the inside of that ponytail the moisture was becoming moldy. I believe this is what she's referring to. 🤷🏾♀️
I get where she is coming from. When I wash my hair and then plait or twist to lock in the moisture, if I then further put those wet/damp twists in a tight bun- then I experience exactly what she she's talking about- especially if its been nearly 2 days since you've washed your hair and it's still damp- that means there is no air circulation between strands. This is not true for air drying in looser twist etc. Her statement is not entirely wrong but its maybe not true for everyone. There is a wrong way to airdry and a wrong way to blowdry, know what works for your hair.
Air drying is leaving hair loose to dry naturally, not pulling it back into a ponytail or up in a bun, that’s styling, not drying. Of course you’re going have issues pulling wet hair up and never letting it get throughly dry. She’s saying if you don’t use heat to completely dry your hair after every wash, it’s going to dry rot and that’s just not true
I'm glad you spoke up on this... i am a woman who almost NEVER blow dries her hair or use any heating tools, relaxers, etc. My lifestyle is way too busy at the moment but i have my heated rollers, etc if i need to stunt this 19+ inch hair on a sunny day! Lol
So I'm guessing you don't believe that you're being upcharge for everything that you're purchasing that's just the way of business every business have a tactic
I absolutely love him. Let's protect him at all costs. Not only is he lovely to look at , but he's smart, articulate, and not subscribing to her b.s. I could go on and on.. But in a nutshell, I love him !
I’m going to agree with her in this case because I do have customers that air dry here incorrectly so as a professional in the business for natural here, I am going to say thumbs up to her because when you have a client and they incorrectly drive there here it does have an impact to what’s going on on the scout and some of the customers. I have to give them an extra treatment because there is mold and mildew sent coming from the Scout because they don’t properly air dry so I think what she’s trying to basically say is that it needs to be properlyventilations in the area that your air dry in your hair or just walk outside for couple hours in the sun and it will dry
For smooth hair textures, leaving the hair in a wet state and going to bed with it wet is bad because the cortex expands. Also when your hair is wet, it’s 50% more stretched. However for our natural sisters, our hair lacks moisture, wet styling is actually good for our hair. With that being said. The hair MUST be moisturized and sealed then detangled and platted first.
That part 😊 I had to learn that myself after going natural my cousin would always tell me combing hair while wet will break your hair I'm like no ma'am my hair loves water😂
that's where I messed up. I would moisturize my locs, slap on my bonnet, and go to bed without giving it time to dry and eventually got dread rot. now I make sure to give my hair time to dry!
I need some tips and tricks. If I don’t heat style my hair, it is a frizzy mess and it feels super dry. I use Kerastase, Argan oil, heat protectants, gloss and unless I heat dry it I look like I’m on me*h
This actually happens when you wet your hair everyday and don’t allow it to dry properly. I had the same problem when I first went back natural because I would wet my hair everyday and tie it into a low pony almost immediately after. So the hair in the middle would never dry properly and would always become brittle and break very easily. It’s like when you throw too much water into a plant over a period and the roots start to rot.
As a black woman who has long and healthy hair to my lower back, air drying is great for your hair. You have to verify people and their talent before letting them do beauty care on you!
Spritzing doesn't saturate the hair enough to create an wet enough environment to contribute to any damage of the hair and scalp. Your hair would need to be drenched and wet for most of the day for this to occur
Exactly. I'm like what black woman is washing their hair every single day to need to air dry every day? Spritzing water is completely different than saturating the hair every day. Meanwhile she's saying this while ruining this ladies curl pattern.
Thank you for setting the record straight. There is ALOT of miss info about hair on UA-cam. It got to the point where I research the hair tips given by these influencer. Therefore I’m not miss guided
She's trying to get more naturals to come back to the salon--her salon--so she can get that 💰 Narada, thank you, thank you, thank you for dismissing this mess! ❤
I think what she meant to say was letting 4c hair air dry while it’s all over the head and not in a protective style will cause damage. Which is true because 4c hair easily tangles so it needs to go in plaits or twist if you plan on air drying after a wash.
Natural hair isn’t as complicated as we make it, many people are just inconsistent and don’t accept their hair texture for what it is. All these slick backs, braids and different hair styles every week are not for everyone, especially if your hair is already dry and unhealthy
Exactly! Most " stylists " don't know a damn thing about Natural hair anyway. All they want to do is use those hot azz flat irons or make you a bald eagle by installing a weave/wig
Stylists like her are the reason I stopped going. Leaving perms in my hair too long and over processing it. Lying about the condition and texture of my hair. Charging exorbitant prices. Honestly, I would probably still be on that creamy crack if the stylists I frequented practiced healthy hair care. Now, the customers have spoken and it's affecting those pockets. Change your ways!!!
Thanks for sharing. I stopped around 2011. The main reason I stopped was because of over-processing which left my hair dry and brittle. I'm glad I made that decision, especially now that I'm hearing about a link between relaxers and fibroids. I love healthy hair regardless of the length. Thanks to UA-cam videos, I learned many ways of styling it. In the past, I dreaded the heat and humidity of summer but now I've realized that natural hair is extremely versatile. You mentioned that you are African, what country?@@jeswazwadi7049
Go to a curly hair stylist that specializes in natural hair and is educated on it. My stylist, a black woman went to school and was actually taught how to care for curly hair. Unfortunately it's still new, but people are starting to learn. I think you have to get younger people tbh. Older people most of time do curly/coily hair the old ways
I'm a licensed cosmetologist and definitely air drying your hair is the most natural and low-impact healthiest way to dry hair. And if you want it straighten after it dries then just stretch the hair out so that it air dries stretch. This will decrease how much heat a person has to put on their hair using a blow dryer and flat iron
@@midnyghtryder.ou can do two cornrows if you’re feeling lazy after a busy day or do large box braids. Heatless hair stretching helps retain length and moisture and reduces shedding
Right. I’m a “straight natural”. I always air dry my hair stretched then blow dry. My hair is longer than it’s ever been. But it’s definitely heat damaged still.
@@midnyghtryder. Do a few big braids. When you hair is about 80% dry, take the braids down. And let your all your hair finish air drying or use the blow dryer on low heat to finish drying. (Licensed Cosmetologist)
Air drying with it completely out might make it easier for damage to arise, but literally air drying itself is not the culprit. Add some plaits or knots to make management easier. I think it's combing out that air dried, loose hair the wrong way that is the problem. I use plaits.
Mold can happen but that's only when you leave hair wet for extended periods of time. Scalp and hair is not meant to be exposed to prolonged moisture exposure.
@AfrikanHairGod that's what she meant. She cannot say all of that in a short. Now everyone in the comments thinks differently and it was taken out of context
Some people talk about a single type of hair texture as if it's all hair textures. Maybe she has worked with someone in the past who's hair responded better to heat. But that's not everyone's hair.
Thank you. Since when has our hair been molding? First they claim locs are molding, now loose hair? Yet, I see no masks or special equipment for this "mold" ever being used to protect their workspace or future clients from inhaling the "mold" while they happily work in it barehands. 😂 ❤ You said it best!
I wish there were more channels promoting natural hair awareness and hair care. Women with beautiful natural hair are stunning. Anyone who is taught proper hair care practices and maintenance can enjoy beautiful hair.
I def need to be taught because I struggle and I'm not sure which curl pattern I have. I feel like I can't be great with any style because it's fine and breaks easily.
I’m so confused I want to start wearing wash n go and twist outs but there’s a lady on UA-cam showing tons of clients with inches upon inches of mechanical damage from wearing twist outs and wash no gos for years. I want to minimize the amount of heat on my hair
The funny thing about this is, although we talk about “ no heat, no heat. My hair would always break as a Natural, and yes I would air dry. I was in a rush one day and decided to blow dry my hair so I can get to my destination. I noticed the hair looked different ( unexplainable better/ healthy looking) so I started blow drying on a medium setting for my weekly wash. Needless to say, it helped my hair stop breaking. I can’t explain it. I just know when I saw this my mouth flew open. Lol Moral of the story. What works for one individual may not be ideal for the next. Do what works for you. I’ve lost a lot of hair following these natural hair gurus 🙃
There’s two types of damage natural hair can incur - mechanical damage from combing and tangling hair in its weakest state (when wet) or heat damage, the over use of heat tools. Looks like keeping hair stretched, using some heat and detangling hair dry or with some oil can help keep natural hair flourishing. I’ve been learning a lot from Cyn Doll
Thanks for the clarification. I was about to comment that the minimal amount of hair shown looked like normal shedding

EMPHASIZE THIS STATEMENT!!!!

The problem is only black buy into this BS . Compare black hair products prices with white hair products, then decide who's being PLAYED. 🖤

Exactly, these natural hair Nazis are out of control 🤦🏽♀️
I agree but that doesn't mean anything, they also didn't use toothpaste
Thank you for addressing this. My natural hair has suffered irreparable damage from misinformation spread by stylists like this. ❤
DING

Right! She made a broad incorrect statement. Just dumb!
@@TheJCMlove exactly
Air drying is leaving hair loose to dry naturally, not pulling it back into a ponytail or up in a bun, that’s styling, not drying. Of course you’re going have issues pulling wet hair up and never letting it get throughly dry. She’s saying if you don’t use heat to completely dry your hair after every wash, it’s going to dry rot and that’s just not true
No that is not what she said or ment. Because no one air dries with the hair in a ponytail. That is not what air dry is.

Context is everything
That part 😊 I had to learn that myself after going natural my cousin would always tell me combing hair while wet will break your hair I'm like no ma'am my hair loves water😂
that's where I messed up. I would moisturize my locs, slap on my bonnet, and go to bed without giving it time to dry and eventually got dread rot. now I make sure to give my hair time to dry!
Exactly!
I need some tips and tricks. If I don’t heat style my hair, it is a frizzy mess and it feels super dry. I use Kerastase, Argan oil, heat protectants, gloss and unless I heat dry it I look like I’m on me*h
I partly agree with her only because thinner curly hair like mine seems
To shed something horrible when I let it air dry in comparison to blow dry.,
How do you air dry it?
This actually happens when you wet your hair everyday and don’t allow it to dry properly. I had the same problem when I first went back natural because I would wet my hair everyday and tie it into a low pony almost immediately after. So the hair in the middle would never dry properly and would always become brittle and break very easily. It’s like when you throw too much water into a plant over a period and the roots start to rot.
There's no such thing as dry rotting of hair though
Same thing happened to me
@@AfrikanHairGod 🤣🤣
@AfrikanHairGod I'm not saying it's called hair rot. What I am saying is something similar happened to me and I explained what happened
As a black woman who has long and healthy hair to my lower back, air drying is great for your hair. You have to verify people and their talent before letting them do beauty care on you!
How did you do it
As a black woman who has hair past my butt and is healthy. I agree 💯💯🎯🫶🏾
Who's wearing their hair wet every day? 😒
wash n go...spritzing
Spritzing doesn't saturate the hair enough to create an wet enough environment to contribute to any damage of the hair and scalp. Your hair would need to be drenched and wet for most of the day for this to occur
@@AfrikanHairGod ok thx
I wear my afro wet most days. It's normally drys in a few hours depending on how it's styled.
Exactly. I'm like what black woman is washing their hair every single day to need to air dry every day? Spritzing water is completely different than saturating the hair every day. Meanwhile she's saying this while ruining this ladies curl pattern.
I really want to get my dome by you are so honest and informative with hair in general but especially when it cones to natural hair 👏🏿👏🏿🙏🏿
Thank you! 😊
Exactly 💯💯
I've been a cosmetologist for 16yrs, I totally agree with you sir! As long as your hair is properly moisturized you will be just fine ladies!!!
I don't think she's entirely wrong. Personally my hair feels drier and more prone to split ends if i don't use some heat to dry it.
Yes that's what I primarily believe "what you throw comes back to you, star" Lauryn hill
Exactly
Exactly! Most " stylists " don't know a damn thing about Natural hair anyway. All they want to do is use those hot azz flat irons or make you a bald eagle by installing a weave/wig
Not a bald eagle 😂
Once a beautician told me if you don’t get a relaxer I’m not doing your hair no more so I gave her what she wanted & stopped going to her.
@@Abundantly-Blessed 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 the audacity of that hairdresser!
They really don't and these are black stylist too with black hair smdh
@@KnowYourChi She was frustrated and felt my hair was too much work
“ I take great offense to this video” 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I swear down I couldn’t help feeling like she was gaslighting me 😂
Stylists like her are the reason I stopped going.
Im glad you’re off that stuff girl! I am no longer dependent on it either. 😂
I stopped using hair relaxers b4 2020 around 2017 & my hair has grown to my back ,it feels so thick ,full & healthy ,proud African with 4c haRR
Well said!🎉
I'm a licensed cosmetologist and definitely air drying your hair is the most natural and low-impact healthiest way to dry hair. And if you want it straighten after it dries then just stretch the hair out so that it air dries stretch. This will decrease how much heat a person has to put on their hair using a blow dryer and flat iron
Yes! 💯
How do you properly stretch the hair out as it dries? My hair takes forever to dry and putting it in twists just locks the moisture in.
My hair became the healthiest and softest when I began air drying
Dry rotting??? Mold??? Huh???
Mold can happen but that's only when you leave hair wet for extended periods of time. Scalp and hair is not meant to be exposed to prolonged moisture exposure.
Not unless you are dead.
Wrong answer, false. Air drying your hair doesn't damage it. Pressing and continuous heat damage the hair.
@@AfrikanHairGod Never been in that position before so that means I’m doing something right🤣 Thanks for clarifying!
@AfrikanHairGod that's what she meant. She cannot say all of that in a short. Now everyone in the comments thinks differently and it was taken out of context
"Stop letting your hair air dry"
And I'm getting a new stylist and telling EVERYONE to stay away if they love their hair.
❤ You said it best!
Thanks for correcting this.❤
I wish there were more channels promoting natural hair awareness and hair care. Women with beautiful natural hair are stunning. Anyone who is taught proper hair care practices and maintenance can enjoy beautiful hair.
I totally agree!
I def need to be taught because I struggle and I'm not sure which curl pattern I have. I feel like I can't be great with any style because it's fine and breaks easily.
More? Do you look for them? It's thousands
I am enjoying my natural hair especially wash days!!!
Lol
Moral of the story. What works for one individual may not be ideal for the next. Do what works for you. I’ve lost a lot of hair following these natural hair gurus 🙃
Same thing happened to me. There’s no one size fits all for hair. We have to do what works for us.
@@katrinamichee7119 that part.
Thank you for TRUTH.
Calling normal hair shed dry rot is the craziest thing. Do not try to scare your clients about the natural process of hair growth and shedding.
I always air dry, and my curls are POPPIN, and my hair is healthier .#teamNatural
Yup same. I’ve only ever air dried unless I’m getting a silk press
Heat can alter your pretty curly pattern.
Thank goodness you are out here making sense of nonsense! ❤
She is 10000% correct air drying 4c hair can leave smell and dry rot/mildew hair! She is right.
