That’s exactly why hair porosity is important especially for naturals because we need to know how our hair is going to receive certain products. I have wasted hundreds maybe even thousands of dollars trying to find hair products that’s worked for my hair. Once I understood my hair porosity I was able to figure out what products my hair would receive or soak up and what products would just sit on my scalp or roll off. I figured out how to open my hair follicles and what would seal the moisture in. It may not be that important to some people but it definitely saved me a lot of money and time.

Loved the video/tutorial and commentary! Thank you so much. I have suffered a tremendous amount of breakage since using the comb attachment for the last several months since my Revair broke. I won't be using the comb anymore for all of the reasons that you listed. I got tangles knots CONSTANTLY while blow drying my fine hair with it. My ends were trashed and badly splitting. I had about 3+ inches cut off and I'm starting over with a clean slate. I'm going back to the paddle brush with all of the great advice you've provided here on how to blow dry natural hair.
This video is a year old!!!! Omg I have been trying to figure out what I’m gonna do about my hair along with my two daughters. I used to take really good care of my natural hair, then I got postpartum depression after my second daughter in 2017 and I have sucked at caring for all of our hair. My youngest daughter has more hair than me and her sister combined. We’re all natural. Anyway this video came through in the clutch. Thanks for all you do!
Porosity helps understand how your hair absorbs water. You can spritz water but with low porosity you need heat to open up the cuticles to take it in otherwise it just sits on top of your hair....still remaining dry. It changed the quality of my deep conditioning & oil treatments knowing I need to be under a dryer for longer for all that goodness to get in
No that's actually not true. You don't need heat to absorb water. That's like saying your hair can't get wet without heat. Porosity as everyone knows it on UA-cam has been completely misconstrued.
God sent me to this channel I know this video is old now but I needed this and all the knowledge! I can’t afford to get my hair done & I’ve always wanted to learn to do my OWN hair ❣️
I agree! Even when I brow dry my hair at home I do not like the comb attachment. The tension method is the best. It's even more efficient when you pull the hair taught with your hand and waver the blow-dryer from the roots to tips. I also use the tangle teezer blow-dryer brush. Grant it, I have a Revair so I don't have to go through this hassle no more.
Thank you for this video I just recently had a customer with 4C hair Im a novice braider just started taking my braiding serious this year and he basically said I didn’t know enough about his hair texture so he found someone else and then this video popped up on my feed at the right moment
Thank you 😊 I know my comments late ⏰ but I’m currently in school and they teach how to blow dry fine hair but not natural more coily hair so this was definitely helpful and keep doing what you’re doing.
Thank you sooo much for this video so informative and there is definitely a difference between a paddle brush and the comb nozzle. I tend to use the comb nozzle when my hand starts to get tired because it is faster but it does not give you the smoothness I desire.
This is great! The stylists I have gone to don't understand that it takes time to detangle our coarse 4c hair. Lol it be your own people too. My poor hair always gets ripped through. I'm used to it now but some days I just opt to do my own hair. I know what she's like. Hopefully I can find someone like you in my area.
Thank you for this ! My 11 yr old has hair exactly this length and this type and she wants her hair blown out this weekend so you just made this easier for me!
Yeah, that comb attachment I had to stop using for the reasons you said; it really just takes through, and I had to do too many passes. Once I started using a brush, I was like yeah, this is MUCH better.
I really needed this. I have a granddaughter with mixed, extremely thick, and long hair and have been using the comb attachment method but will try the paddle brush method.
I don't own a paddle brush but I think my detangling brush will still work, I just have to work in smaller sections. But I absolutely love this technique. I also don't own heat protectant so I'll still have to maintain tension method with the dryer a couple inches for my hair. Currently in a protective style (mini braids) but once I take them down I intend on doing another blowout (did one before protective styling). I feel like I need to have my hair completely stretched out more but I need a fail safe way. I only ever either use threading or tension method. I'll be trying some techniques from this tutorial next time around 🙌🏾
The one thing knowing my porosity helped me with is conditioning and moisturizing my hair. Because it’s low porosity I need to apply heat to open my hair shaft when conditioning. Also my hair can absorb lighter products better.
🥴 Porosity is VERY important. If your hair is porous you need to make sure you’re using low pH products and cationic conditioners to fill and flatten the cuticle after using water of any kind. Which is why things like Porosity corrector and neutralizer can give high porosity hair a lot of added shine and silk.
Thank you so much for clarifying the necessity of cleaned conditioned hair first, especially the less is more part. I thought of hair grease, hot comb from back in the day. 🤦🏾♀️ Thank you!
Very great job blow drying!!❤❤ I only use a blow dryer and heat if attending formal events! But, because I workout often and sweat, I usually just wear my hair in braids, twist, or Rock-A-Afro with a headband!❤❤❤💯💯🥰🥰
Her hair is so healthy 😍💕 seeing your technique, my technique isn’t too bad 😮 it’s kinda hard to use a brush on myself though so I rather the attachment but I always do the tension method first.
Try to position the brush and then chase it thru like you do the flat ironing with the comb chase method. That's what I used to do after using the tension method
Thank you for this video! I just tried my first blow out on my 4c hair with a paddle brush and I must say I "HAD" decent results except for my ends. They were very ragged and still had tight coils at the ends. Is that because I need a trim or because I have never used heat on my hair since I grew it out 5 years ago? I tried lighter products ( a leave in/heat protectant and serum) but the ends began to revert as soon as I was done. So much work but it's longer and since I deal with constant tangling, I'm thinking a blow dry would be quick so I can braid it up and not wait 2 days to dry in large plaits for a heat free stretch. I need professional help!
You’ve just made me realise I’ve been blow drying my hair all wrong all these years with that damn comb attachment 😂 Happy I found this video, I was about to buy the ghd Helios and I’ve been debating the comb attachment
Lol, my boy was real aggy with that comb attachment😅...you know when he started cussin, he was drove...first time watching and I love you already...thanks for making this tutorial fun and informative...thanks for being human!❤
I thoroughly enjoy your commentary, you say the things I think when I do my clients hair and that comb attachment UGH. It has its uses but I prefer the paddle brush. This was a great video.
Awww .lol.. i loved this video ..i could definitely see the confidence transition from you using the brush to the comb. I started using the comb so i became very proficient in blowdrying, and later bcame used to using the brush.. the brush took me waaay longer to completely dry the hair
I use the tension method however, when I'm pulling the hair down I dry out to the roots first. So, I'll pull the hair and hit the top of the hair, both, sides and under. Then when I'm done with that I blowdry with the brush from tips to roots. It has worked for me better. I also find that a 9-row brush helps with the tension. Do you have any recommendations on a good paddle brush? the one that I have has bristles that go in every direction and I hate it! Also, If you have recommendations on round brushes I'll take that too! Thanks for the informative video friend!
It’s soooo funny I watched this video as I blow dry my hair with a comb attachment 😂. My hair is never smooth like this and I tried the way you do it years ago and got overwhelmed with it all. You make me want to try it again and just be patient with myself. Plus find a really GOOD paddle brush. Do you have some you can recommend?
😭😭😭 your method of using the 🪮 attachment… I wish you blew it out in the downwards motion like you did with the brush. I can see why the hair would get tangled faster… However, I do prefer a brush to blow my hair out muchhhh more than the 🪮 attachment because it’s so much smoother for me and I get the roots so much better. I love your method with that brush!!! New subbie here ♥️♥️♥️🥰
Im a nurse and have been obsessed with hair videos lately, well after my last silk press damaged my curls. Wat Ive realized is I have to have patience with my black hair... like how you detangle and twist the hair before blow-drying I will implement that on my next wash day . I should have been a hairdresser. Thanks for this video .
I have a funeral to go to in two days, I usually keep my hair in twist. It’s about past my mid back and I’m gonna try my best with this video 😂 idk how to straighten my hair but I’m doing better at detangling so thank you! It’s a struggle having course hair and truly not having the patience for it, be ready to cry😂
Oh yeah, I peeped comb attachments back in '08! While I did love my gold n hot blow dryer, I could not mess with the comb attachment. All that damn work🤣 The concentrator is definitely my favorite.
Oh yes ma'am. We are all about cleanliness and sanitation at our salon. We sweep and clean the floor/station/chair after every client, we only use one value per person and we keep our business clean as possible for our clients.
Give thanks for this video Dyson comb attachment for heat distribution and detangle then I follow thru with paddle brush with light oil to seal the cuticle ❤
Learned a few new things here. For those of us unable to use the brush (or who just find it difficult) and do use a comb attachment, would it not make sense to do smaller sections than you're able to do them with the paddle brush? From your wording it seemed you were concerned about how thoroughly you could spread the hair and get to all of it, which that would help with no? Also is there a safe method for detangling the hair beforehand so you don't hit snags with the brush or comb attachment, or is that solved by starting at the ends and slowly loosening by going up to the root? My hair tends to dry fast so I'm going to practice rehydrating it slowly rather than soaking it again 😭 sorry for asking so many questions 🙏🏻 if it makes any difference to advice, I use a Dyson with the pick attachment. I feel like it is better (than even the Dyson with smoothing + brush) but my hair is longer + thick and I kind of lose energy by the time I get to the top. I can tell it's noticeably less smooth
Thank you for responding. Yes you are right. But it also means stiffness, soreness, flaw, eccentricity. To me, this word goes way back. AfricanHair, Afro or natural is better. I guess it's up to individual.
You are choosing to use a negative connotation to a word that's not even referencing it. I am basing my terminology based on technical and scientifically accepted jargon so that means my reference and your interpretation may not align because you are not within my field of study. African hair, afro hair, and natural hair are not better terms for me to use because they are extremely general and broad. When i need to specify a specific characteristic of natural hair, I'm going to use terminology that reflects that so that i can speak with clarity and specific intent.
There is a comb attachment that is made by a black man , and I used 30+ years. It worked much quicker than the attachments that come with the dryer plus the hair is smooth when finished, and you don't need to use no more than one glide through with the flatiron. No heat damage, at all.
I have higher porosity and I have highly dense hair lol - thus I agree with you it’s so hard for my hair to receive the styling product when I’m doing a wash and go. I’m going to lighten my leave in vs add more product. Great advice.

I have extreme 4C hair and by extreme I mean my hair tangles so easily and my hair has a cottony texture. I just tried your technique and although it came out better than what I usually do. My hair is still stiff and dull. I am literally giving up and I don’t know what I am doing wrong?! I washed with Olapex 04 and 05! Then followed with a diluted ACV rinse and then rinsed. I didn’t let my hair get too dry, and then I created sections. I applied my favorite leave-in milk and did the whole blow drying method. It still comes out stiff and my ends look horrible. I can feel myself giving up on 4c hair because I am trying so hard lol!
What exactly is it that you are trying so hard to do? There are many things in your process that I don't really understand that could also be contributing to your blow out. I think something that meant people forget is that the health and condition of your hair is going to really be a determinant factor in the results of your blowout
@@AfrikanHairGod My hair is pretty healthy, I actually just cut it into a bob! It grows steadily, but it’s difficult to manage in between protective styles.
Been doing hair close to 40 years and I must say I enjoyed you 😂!
Narada's TLC to natural hair....priceless.
I live in Florida but will travel to GA for a yearly blow out and trim.
I love the way you always explain how to take care of natural hair
God sent me to this channel I know this video is old now but I needed this and all the knowledge! I can’t afford to get my hair done & I’ve always wanted to learn to do my OWN hair ❣️
This was the most comprehensive and helpful blow out tutorial. Wow. Thankyou! 🙏🏾
Come attachment is the best thing for my hair. Gets it the straightest.
Do you straighten your hair often?
Whew! That is a nice blow out! Can’t believe it only took 30 minutes!
Narada you look like you’re so gentle and tedious. I love it! 💛💛💛
Thank you! I really try to be gentle
My childs hair isn't as long as hers and it takes a minimum of 1hour
Thank you 😊 I know my comments late ⏰ but I’m currently in school and they teach how to blow dry fine hair but not natural more coily hair so this was definitely helpful and keep doing what you’re doing.
Thank you sooo much for this video so informative and there is definitely a difference between a paddle brush and the comb nozzle. I tend to use the comb nozzle when my hand starts to get tired because it is faster but it does not give you the smoothness I desire.
Wooow I learned a lot. I like how you broke down why you don’t prefer the comb attachment, great work
This is great!
Omg just watching you take care of her hair with so much love and attention makes me happy. I with we had stylist like you in south Africa!
Thank you! I hope to visit there and do natural hair there someday
@@AfrikanHairGod Lovely!!! a Masterclass for/with the hair stylist could be a good idea too.😇
Yeah, that comb attachment I had to stop using for the reasons you said; it really just takes through, and I had to do too many passes. Once I started using a brush, I was like yeah, this is MUCH better.
I watched so many other videos on blowouts and this is by far the best one. It's helped me sooo much!! Thanks 😊
I use the comb attachment and using a titanium blowdryer is what works best for me. Less passes and the heat is evenly distributed through the hair.
Love your demonstration of the use of the paddle brush with the dryer and the comb attachment.
I appreciate this sooo much being a potential stylist on natural Hair, I am grateful for this video ❤
I really needed this. I have a granddaughter with mixed, extremely thick, and long hair and have been using the comb attachment method but will try the paddle brush method.
This has helped me so much. I never thought to using water &/or a liquid leave in to help better the process
The Revlon One Step Paddle Brush dryer get the roots soooo well .
It's not because you should be using those things ANYWAY so what would be the need for the distinction in this regard?
Thank you so much for clarifying the necessity of cleaned conditioned hair first, especially the less is more part. I thought of hair grease, hot comb from back in the day. 🤦🏾♀️ Thank you!
Once you started talking like a cosmetology teacher I followed 😂😂❤️
I use the the Revlon round brush dryer because of my disabilities.
I'm so impressed, the first time I've ever subscribed so quickly. I'm learning so much. I have similar thick hair. Thank you.😍😍
Thanks! This was so helpful! My hair is not as long but it dries fast, and is resistant. You showed me many tips!
Thank you so much!
You’ve just made me realise I’ve been blow drying my hair all wrong all these years with that damn comb attachment 😂
Happy I found this video, I was about to buy the ghd Helios and I’ve been debating the comb attachment
This came at the perfect time! Thanks again for the great tips and knowledge
Lol, my boy was real aggy with that comb attachment😅...you know when he started cussin, he was drove...first time watching and I love you already...thanks for making this tutorial fun and informative...thanks for being human!❤
Thank you so much. I’ve been needing to blow dry my natural hair out. This was helpful, I have the exact blow dryer.
Check out my shorts on this video here. I also really like the Denman D38 brush for detangling.

@@AfrikanHairGod thank you!
New subbie here ♥️♥️♥️🥰
Your videos are always so informative. Thank you 😊
You are so welcome!
Just came across your channel and wished you were here in Jacksonville FL to do my natural hair. Love Your styles.
Awesome job 👏🏾 While watching, I could not help but notice how clean the floor was. I am sorry, I had to mention it.
Oh yes ma'am. We are all about cleanliness and sanitation at our salon. We sweep and clean the floor/station/chair after every client, we only use one value per person and we keep our business clean as possible for our clients.
@@AfrikanHairGod So nice!! And I am sure they appreciate that.😇❤🙌🏽
I love your energy!!!! Be blessed as well Sweetie!!!💗💗💗💗Soft Beautiful Blowout!!
I found my hair twin!
With the comb attachment, you really should start from the roots and then work your way down of course, on very detangaled hair
I couldn't it was pulling at her hair. I know how to use it. I don't like it. Her hair was already well detangled
Give thanks for this video Dyson comb attachment for heat distribution and detangle then I follow thru with paddle brush with light oil to seal the cuticle ❤
My hair is fine but cottony . I need to get my hair blown out and trimmed 😢it’s been three years. You do such an amazing job ❤
I bought the EZ Detangler dryer. I can blow dry my thick kinky hair within 20 minutes.
May I know what the comb attachment is called?
What is the name of it? Please share.
@@snshnwht I believe it is the Willie Morrow blowdry comb. You have to screw it on, if I remember correctly.
I have higher porosity and I have highly dense hair lol - thus I agree with you it’s so hard for my hair to receive the styling product when I’m doing a wash and go. I’m going to lighten my leave in vs add more product. Great advice.
This is why I miss the roller set and sit under the hood dryer.
You got through her hair so fast 😲! My God!
Omg this is my hair texture.
I did ur sectioning method the hair and it help but i did lost my brush so i did take different brush but u help me alot just i need to get new tools and blowdryer and straightner whn god bless me with the money😊
You did an amazing job
I would always love to learn new ways to make it even more healthy, but I am honestly not sure what I haven’t tried yet. My main struggle is stretching my hair. No one really knew how to properly do my hair growing up, so I am starting on a fresh “hair knowledge” slate. I go to my stylist and she always does a great job, but when I replicate her technique at home, I don’t get the same results. I am moving for college soon and I won’t be able to go to my normal stylist and I want to be able to wash and blow dry my own hair 😔
@@svnnahtafireyi maybe your should speak with your stylist since you like her results.
My childs hair isn't as long as hers and it takes a minimum of 1 hour to blow dry. Next time I will try the brush method and less product. Thank you!
