    Thank you for normalizing our hair. The media has made it seem unnecessarily complicated. When you started talking about the obsession with porosity I couldn’t agree more. I never cared about that and couldn’t understand why it mattered so much. I’m happy I’m not the only one who realizes its not that important when it comes to normal or everyday hair care. I love your energy. You are awesome! Stay blessed ❤💕

      @@Latte-girly90 wow you are so spot on with this because most of us black women don’t feel comfortable with our hair how it grows out of our head always have to have it “styled”. I have been wearing my hair out in an Afro some days minimal styling and I feel so confident I get so many compliments on my hair and people just stare and people tell me how beautiful I look with my hair. A lot of hairstylists will use the comb attachment to blow dry the hair instead of trying their hand at using a paddle brush with a blow-dryer. They tend to think it's convenient and quicker when they could actually be tiring themselves out and possibly damaging the hair they're working on. I appreciate you demonstrating your best technique. Because of you I feel like I can do it myself instead of paying someone to put my hair through unnecessary stress.

    Thanks for this. Not only does the peanut gallery make our hair "weird" but we do it to each other. We went from Black is Beautiful in the 70s to something is wrong with you through the 80s and 90s. It was like natural hair was a crime. We went from just a nice press or blow out to you need a Jerry Curl, relaxer, fried dyed and laid to the side. Now we back to all things natural.

      From the late 60s through the 70s, it was all about social change and challenging the status quo. The people who were in high school and college during the 60s and 70s went on to adopt the yuppie lifestyle of the 80s and 90s. Of course, that meant that Black folks would either straighten their hair or make their curl pattern looser in order to get a decent job, and unfortunately we’re still fighting for the right to wear our natural hair in the workplace.

    Thank you for this video! I just tried my first blow out on my 4c hair with a paddle brush and I must say I "HAD" decent results except for my ends. They were very ragged and still had tight coils at the ends. Is that because I need a trim or because I have never used heat on my hair since I grew it out 5 years ago? I tried lighter products ( a leave in/heat protectant and serum) but the ends began to revert as soon as I was done. So much work but it's longer and since I deal with constant tangling, I'm thinking a blow dry would be quick so I can braid it up and not wait 2 days to dry in large plaits for a heat free stretch. Then when I'm done with that I blowdry with the brush from tips to roots. It has worked for me better. I also find that a 9-row brush helps with the tension. That’s exactly why hair porosity is important especially for naturals because we need to know how our hair is going to receive certain products. I have wasted hundreds maybe even thousands of dollars trying to find hair products that’s worked for my hair. Once I understood my hair porosity I was able to figure out what products my hair would receive or soak up and what products would just sit on my scalp or roll off. I figured out how to open my hair follicles and what would seal the moisture in. It may not be that important to some people but it definitely saved me a lot of money and time.

    • @AfrikanHairGod
      @AfrikanHairGod  2 роки тому +17

      Round brushes are not really made for this kind of hair in mind. You can finesse it and make it work but most round brushes are designed to hold and apply heat to the hair. This doubles the amount of heat that you apply to the hair during the blowdry process. This is going to increase your risk of heat damage. Also the type of bristles can put a lot of stress and damage on the ends on the hair. You can see this is not the case with the paddle brush as it just glides thru with ease. This is from someone that was known for my round brushing skills in beauty school and even gave a lesson to my peers on it.

    I have extreme 4C hair and by extreme I mean my hair tangles so easily and my hair has a cottony texture. I just tried your technique and although it came out better than what I usually do. My hair is still stiff and dull. I am literally giving up and I don’t know what I am doing wrong?!
    I washed with Olapex 04 and 05! Then followed with a diluted ACV rinse and then rinsed. I didn’t let my hair get too dry, and then I created sections. I applied my favorite leave-in milk and did the whole blow drying method. It still comes out stiff and my ends look horrible. I can feel myself giving up on 4c hair because I am trying so hard lol!

    • @AfrikanHairGod
      @AfrikanHairGod  6 місяців тому

      What exactly is it that you are trying so hard to do? There are many things in your process that I don't really understand that could also be contributing to your blow out. I think something that meant people forget is that the health and condition of your hair is going to really be a determinant factor in the results of your blowout

      @@AfrikanHairGod My hair is pretty healthy, I actually just cut it into a bob! It grows steadily, but it’s difficult to manage in between protective styles. I would always love to learn new ways to make it even more healthy, but I am honestly not sure what I haven’t tried yet. My main struggle is stretching my hair. No one really knew how to properly do my hair growing up, so I am starting on a fresh “hair knowledge” slate. I go to my stylist and she always does a great job, but when I replicate her technique at home, I don’t get the same results. I am moving for college soon and I won’t be able to go to my normal stylist and I want to be able to wash and blow dry my own hair 😔

    Thank you sooo much for this video so informative and there is definitely a difference between a paddle brush and the comb nozzle. I tend to use the comb nozzle when my hand starts to get tired because it is faster but it does not give you the smoothness I desire.

    IT seems you're holding the dryer by the nozzle at an awkward angle. I've been taught to hold it an easier way, but I you say don't use the comb attachment anyway. Do you have any tips on how to use brushes to blow dry kinky hair? I've tried it on clients and my own hair and the issues you have with the comb attachment I have with brushes. The hair just knots up and tangles again. Is it because of the end needed trimmed or me not detangling well enough before hand?

    Porosity only matters when choosing hair products. I have low porosity and heavy thick creams do nothing but sit on my hair and create flakes. So I use light watery leave ins. Aside from that, porosity doesn't matter.

  • @brokgrl85

    Porosity helps understand how your hair absorbs water. You can spritz water but with low porosity you need heat to open up the cuticles to take it in otherwise it just sits on top of your hair....still remaining dry. It changed the quality of my deep conditioning & oil treatments knowing I need to be under a dryer for longer for all that goodness to get in

    • @AfrikanHairGod
      @AfrikanHairGod  10 місяців тому +2

      No that's actually not true. You don't need heat to absorb water. That's like saying your hair can't get wet without heat. Porosity as everyone knows it on UA-cam has been completely misconstrued.

I really wish my clients had the time to spend as much energy on knowledge like hairdressers have the time to spend the energy they come in focused on one aspect and don’t even understand it fully and then have all these judgments on their selves, it turns into this whole other thing besides, just trying to give them the hairstyle they want based on the hair they have

    I’m surprised as a stylist you don’t know how to use a comb properly to dry the hair. My hair is equally as thick and longer and I prefer the comb. However, I like the conair 1850 dryer and I comb out my hair prior to blow drying. It literally takes me about 20 minutes to do my entire head and it dry and straight. I’m not a stylist but have been doing my hair and others for over 20 years and have grown my hair to waist length. I don’t prefer the dryer you used bc of the awkwardness but have used it with great results and about the same drying time.
