  • Although we're not quite at the end of March, there's been so much activity I thought I would compile this, as I have an extra additional film waiting in the wings.
Smoky the vixen gave birth on the 23rd Feb and has been constantly in and out of her den. Defending against threats nearby, whether it be from the badgers Flora or Brutus, or other foxes she doesn't know.
The other vixen, Silver, gave birth a week later and has been around most of the time. Her den can't be too far away. Smoky seems to know her and doesn't see her as a threat, so they must be related I'm guessing.
Usually after a month, fox cubs begin to emerge from the den and here was no exception, so watch until the end. The extra film I'll post later.
We also had a dog fox with what looks like a very badly damaged leg. He was around before Christmas but has only now returned.
I contacted the local fox rescue for trapping, but with so many foxes passing through it's really difficult to target the right one, especially with a mum and cubs so close by. I've kept any eye on him and given him painkillers, he's in most nights and seems to be getting on OK.
Smoky's mange I have treated but it's looking bad again, so another course of treatment is required I think.
    Stay tuned for more soon...
