There was a movie called untraceable that had a similar plot but it was a live stream of victims being tortured and potentially dying based off view count on the website the killer created.
One thing I don’t get is why the police couldn’t get the social media company that owns the platform to lock down the video in someway or just straight up remove it.

The kidnappers could forward the plan and execute Nick, which would be an unknown factor. There's a lot of factors that could screw it up
At the VERY least you can see IP traffic. Who watched it, WHO POSTED IT, or at least WHERE it was posted from. If it was a phone upload that phone number would belong to SOMEONE. The first 100 people to watch the video would be immediate suspects. And you can trust and believe that platforms like youtube have the power and sometimes DO freeze the view counter. Remember when botting was an issue for the algorithm? UA-cam Implemented a view freeze feature so they could have EASILY made the traffic of the video DRAMATICALLY slowdown to almost a legitimate believable level to buy authorities more time. Removing the video would just challenge the kidnapper into killing the victim lol.

This reminded me of a show in my country where the girl finds out from her ex that the guy she just married cheated on her a day before the marriage and then proceeded to go though with it.
14:30 - She didn't come clean on the same day they married. Instead, she confessed her 3-month affair the night after a marriage anniversary party, which means that they were married for a year or more when she confessed. -- That's still not nice, but at least she did come clean mostly out of her own free will.
It wasnt right after marriage but yeah. Even if he divorced her nothing will get better because he will lose 80% of his things because thats how divorce works. His wife will get the house, the kids, most of his money and other physical belongings

yes but it was obvious it was a kidnapping. in cases like this, especially men, kidnapping cases are likely to be of revenge to punish and/or admit wrong doing (there are many cases as such). the goal was to make him admit his wrongdoing with the threat of death to force him to admit it whilst publicly shamming him and turning him into a villain that society (specifically the types of people watching the video) would praise/not care about his death thinking he deserved this. hope this explained things :) trust me watch the series on netflix. this review misses alot of small significant plot points that make this whole story a*. and the acting sooooo good
