    The Nike GPS or Nike General Purpose Shoe was designed by Tom Sachs also the designer of the mars yard and mars yard 2 both were designed to be a versatile sneaker that put function first and design second. The Tom sachs gps Tom sachs general purpose shoe was designed to be boring and a shoe anyone and everyone can get but it is all hype and marketing or is the Nike gps good?

      If I were Tom (I'm not sure how wealthy he really is) I would have kept all the ones that he got to sell on his own site, that he likely paid cost for in a warehouse somewhere, and then sold them at cost in a couple years. That would be a big FU to the collectors and price gougers.

    Basically all sneakers are resoleable. While I appreciate big companies pushing repairability as a feature, there is nothing stopping people from having their cobbler put a fresh sole on their converse,vans,yeezys, keds, dunks, rick owens,etc. What would actually be cool is if they started providing original soles for use in repair. A lot of sneakerheads especially want to keep their shoes looking as original as possible, and providing the original materials could go a long way to encouraging resoling.

    • @jakej722
      @jakej722 Рік тому +16

      What's stopping people is that it wouldn't be worth the cost to put a fresh sole on a $50 pair of sneakers.

    • @TillmansFX
      @TillmansFX Рік тому +8

      @@jakej722 Yeah absolutely! But there are plenty of sneakers that people pay way more for, whether its retail or resale, and I think it would be a more effective sustainability initiative to offer original materials for resoling than it is to make a one-off that isn't any more resolable than your average sneaker. Just my $0.02 though.

    • @garethbaus5471
      @garethbaus5471 Рік тому +10

    The TPU coating does not add much mechanical durability, yet it extends the lifetime of the upper a lot. The first 0.5-1 inches of the upper, contiguous to the outsole, faces debris first, as well as it soaks dust and sand particles form the ground. Especially a mesh/fabrics upper. The sand is abrasive so it gnaws the material apart. That's why I do not buy completely mesh shoes without a stripe of leather along the bottom. Otherwise I get a through hole in 2 months. The TPU layer prevents that. Mesh running shoes protected with a bottom stripe of TPU last much longer.

    Great and enjoyable video. I fail to see the purpose of a bottom that can be resoled while the upper itself is not really that durable. Expensive for what it is, too.

    What do you do with the cross-sectioned shoe? I’d love to purchase a half or both for display if I could.

    They extremely expensive. Like for rich people only.
    Reminded me of Puma GV/California casual shoes and those are on the opposite end, like super affordable.

    It reminds me of the New Balance that I have. The sole logs are almost exactly the same in appearance. Does this mean Nike ripped on New Balance ?

    I'm interested in these but, after looking online at their availability and seeing the scalper prices, I'm not going to hold my breath. I would *love* to be proven wrong and see a) these readily available at or around MSRP and b) scalpers choke on a garage full of inventory.

    Could you cut open a SBD power lifting belt it’s a belt that’s highly loved for it’s leather quality in the weight lifting community and I feel like a lot of people would love to see the quality and what the inside of the belt may look like and what the quality is really like

    Tom Sachs X Gore-tex GPS would be ideal for this concept. The style of the GPS and durability of a Gore-Tex weatherproof shoe.

    I have a pair of the Studio Colorway. I love them. And I agree with pretty much everything that you said about these shoes..
    The only thing that I would change about these shoes is the heel area. I would prefer a heal more like on the Nike Internationalist, or the Waffle One's. A heel that really locks your heel in, one that doesn't give you the heel slippage that these shoes do...
