What an amazing story. Kyle was blessed to have people around him who saw what he initially didn’t see. To own and operate a business as a foreigner, in Japan, for THIRTY years isn’t anything to shake a stick at. He’s being incredibly humble about his work ethic. Nothing but the highest respect for this brother ✊🏽
Yes it is really, really grand. What I don't get is why is it that Ranzo can find all of these black people, with ease it seems, yet these other black channels I have come across of ones living in the same country are always alone. Not finding any others. Not collaborating or anything like he does. I can understand if you don't want to be around other westerners as much as you because you aren't there for that but still this is the only channel that shows this.
Kyle, I've known you since before you came to Japan. Man, you made my now 22 yr. old daughter's first birthday cake! It was delicious. I still have memories of eating that cake. You've been keeping it going for this long, so keep on brother. I know about a few of the trials and tribulations, buy they just made you stronger. You know that " I Luv Japan!" And I know that YOU love Japan, too. Bro, let's keep it going and get together soon.
The most amazing thing is that he succedeed while doing what he loved every day. Everything came together on its own / the people that he met lifted him on this direction. While baking the same 5 cakes for 30 years.... look at that. (loss for words - amazed) There are always obstacles but at the end of the day is on us.
Outside of Black Americans. Africans on the continent and Black poeple in the diaspora. Japanese people are some of the coolest people I have ever met. No one is perfect, but I can say when traveling to Japan and being around Japanese I feel loved and appreciated. Thank you all for making this mans business flourish for 30 years. I gotta visit when I head back!
“ Persevere”… did you see Supreme Court Justice Brown Jackson tell her Harvard story.? Her first few months at Harvard as an undergrad, having such a difficult time, and an anonymous African-American lady passing her on the footpath leaned in and said, “Persevere.“ Such a powerful word! Thank you for all of these wonderful stories! I’ve been living in Kyoto for 30 years, and each person you interview is so inspirational!
I'm not black or Japanese but I enjoyed this story and history narrative!!! More stories please. I will definitely visit this bakery when I go to Japan iA
He is basically a GOOD MAN. You can see his honest comments. And I think that is exactly what Japanese people saw in him. I hope him continous success and a long happy life!!!!
I love seeing this. He opened his bakery a year after I moved back to the US from Japan. It definitely makes me wish I had stayed a little longer in my new home. I also went to JAFA meetings and my first time living in Japan was 1985. So happy to see him content and successful. Continued blessings.
@ALAIN MEKOYO because he is the baker... Hes wife might help him but he stated that he makes the carrot cake which is the best seller. Did u watch the video?
Wow! I have 4 kids as well and lived in Japan for 16 years. All my kids speak fluent Japanese. All my kids attended school on a millitary base where I work. Now I have one kid playing basketball at Mary Baldwin University. One about to graduate from the twelth grade one in 9th grade and one in fifth grade. I never even knew any japanese people before I met my wife. It just happened.
I am about 5 minutes into the interview. Really, really, really a great story. You can see the humility, peace, and cordial nature in this man. It is really no surprise that the Japanese invested in this man and got him the location. He has kindness principles about him. But, in Japan it does seem that a man is more free to be kind.
His smile is infectious and his positive energy is palpable even through the screen. Thank you Ranzo for introducing Kyle to us and much love, respect and continued success to you both.
中野近いから行ってみるかな。 It's close from my town. I'd like to try. P.S. 今日行ってみた。 キャロットケーキとチーズケーキとガトーショコラを注文。 どれも旨いけど、チーズケーキが気に入った。 創業30周年キャンペーンで、1割引きだったからツイてたね! また行きます。 I went today. I lived in China for 6 years and the main thing that I missed were American baked goods. Asia doesn’t have the same baking culture as the west. Most people cook via stove top. While I lived in China, unfortunately I refused to eat cakes, donuts, and even cookies because they just didn’t have the same taste and satisfaction as the pastries I was used to.
Thank you for the video. It is awesome to get to know about the businesses, business owners and their story. I will definitely be ordering an apple pie the next time I am in Japan. If they deliver, I would love to send it to some of our friends as gifts. I will check out the bakery the next time I am there. May he have continued success in all his business endeavors for the next 30 years! よろしくお願いします。
This just proves that *mentality* is the main ingredient in success. Not just your own mentality, but the mentality around you. The people around him pushed him to business, because they saw he had a talent. On the flip side, people with the wrong mentality, will try to tear you down or not support.
Kyle is a living testimony of the power of relationships not only in Japan transcends overseas with family in good deeds. Also he seems like a very cut throat business man and great interview. Ranzo Respect BEJ Family...🎉💯
One key to his success in one word: community. He has a great personality, and was really blessed to meet the people that he did. It brought so much opportunity, and its clear he also cares deeply for the community that supported him.
I read about Kyle and his business in Popeye magazine last year. Good to see him featured in this channel. I hope to visit his shop whenever I get to go to Japan again.
This is wonderful i am planning a trip to Japan soon and I will most definitely visit his bakery he is making all my favourite baked goods. The people in Tokyo are so lucky to have this wonderful bakery with everything lovingly made by hand

I really enjoyed the video interview. He’s has a great, mellow, easygoing temperament. He made what would normally be ordinary life annoyances sound so simple. He gave good insight for anyone wanting to start a business and a new life adventure. He seems as though life is very simple and easygoing. What a great feeling that must be for both him and his family.

Having food that's out of the ordinary Japanese style and it's good food is the best business. Being able to walk right in or order and and have it delivered quickly is a good factor as well. Just because the business failed, doesn't make you a failure". He describes his experience in Japan all these years to be a positive one, with no overtly racist encounters. You can really tell that he makes a conscious choice to not let negative experiences loom and stay with him. He always looks forward and I love that. A great role model in that regard. Reminds me of my mother. Thank you for the interview! Will definitely visit on my next trip!!
