Cost of living at winter: inside the UK’s warm banks

  • Between the cold weather, a cost of living crisis and soaring energy bills - this winter is forcing families to make tough choices and sacrifices. But some communities have created safe spaces for vulnerable people this winter - these are Britain’s warm banks.
    (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
The UK economy is in recession and bills for every household across the country are soaring. Leaving many unable to afford to heat their homes properly. It’s estimated more than 8 million people will be in fuel poverty by April 2023, and many are choosing between buying presents for their families or heating their homes this Christmas.
We visited three Warm Banks in Barnsley and Gateshead to speak to the volunteers and those using the community spaces for warmth, a warm meal, singing songs or just for some company and a shoulder to cry on.

Building wealth involves developing good habits like regularly putting money away in intervals for solid investments. Financial management is a crucial topic that most tend to shy away from, and ends up haunting them in the near future. Putting our time and effort in activities and investments that will yield a profitable return in the future is what we should be aiming for. Success depends on the actions or steps you take to achieve it. "You're not going to remember those expensive shoes you bought ten years ago, but you will remember every single morning when you look at your bank account that extra 0 in there. I promise, that's going to be way more fun to look at everyday", we most be successful in life I say this with strong faith 🙏🙏🙏

In the UK a single person over 25 out of work is entitled to £340 per month universal credit. A third of that can be taken automatically for outstanding debt. leaving the person with just £240 a month to live on. I had to give up work last year to care for my son full time. I was living on £240 a month. We ate mainly from food banks, which is mostly tinned food. Thankfully this year we are in a better position. But I can`t imagine what people are going through this year on such a small amount, when food and fuel has gone up so much. :(

Be prepared for a fight for it and that it will take time, we started the claim for Husband in May 2017 and it was not awarded until September 2018 plus we had to go to tribunal for it. If you have a charity or Citizen's Advice Bureau in your area they can support you with your claim if you need to take it to tribunal. But if you are successful they backdate your claim from the date you phoned them and made the application. If you can face the fight it is well worth it as many claims rejected by the DWP are overturned on appeal. Good luck to you, it's souldestroying out there >

They can’t cope with the slightest adversity that isn’t even adversity. None of these people are skinny. Why heat entire homes? There’s such a thing as a silent majority. Sure, if awful things were done against these people, like a positive act of raiding their homes, dragging them out and torturing them, most people would be in disgust and take action. The most effective thing that can happen is if these people take action themselves. Instead of whining and complaining, thinking that they’re owed something and that someone else should and will come and save them. i have never been to Great Britain but as someone living in a damned cold country I think a lot of the expense of heating a home in the British Isles could be attributed to construction, energy efficiency standards, and materials used. could someone offer me any information?
