When I get a Tele, I want alnico 2's in the neck and bridge positions. I will probably go with Seymour Duncan. The tone seemed to inspire you, Mike!
From Leo: While there is a different sound, I cannot say one is superior. They both have good tonal qualities. The better and top level of guitars come with pretty good pickups. It is the bottom to lower level guitars that greatly benefit from upgrading the pickups. By the way, great work on the demonstration riffs!
alnico 2 are my faves in teles. cuts the harshness I also like alnico 2 in my gibson. weird eh but I just like guitars that are not shrill and yes I am a regular user of the tone knobs. ya cant beat pickups with low output because it's easier to add boost or gain than it is to get that old paf sound out of overwound pups
Love the "quack" of the alnico bridge, but I definitely prefer the stock pickup for the neck. Thanks for the superb demo!
Alnico 2 the bridge and 5 for the neck.
Got to agree here. I have never liked A2 in a neck position. The bass strings are way to spongy and soft.
Wore me out just watching! You're not the only guy who doesn't like to fool with the guitar you bought. :)
My Ibanez Talman Prestige 1702 TFB came with Alinico Pro II as well and I love them! I think it sounds great on your Fender Tele Mike! Cheers!
I'm still getting used to my recently purchased 1702. Way different than my Texas Special loaded American Special Tele.
very helpful, thank you... not only properly demonstradet and compared, but also played the right style, to help me make a decision :-)
The SDs had that Brad Paisley sparkle and brittleness. A honkiness thrown in. I like it more
Mike, First of all....Great Playing! I have been thinking of upgrading my Tele's pickups for a while now. After watching several videos and doing a lot of research. I think I am going with the same set up as you have. I hope Seymour Duncan is giving you a cut on all the pickups your video sells for them.😁
Hahaha I wish!.. let me know how you get on with them.
New bridge pickup sounds less harsh and original neck has more bite.
Amazing quack on the new bridge pickup but I like the original neck pickup.
ScottTheNews I’m looking at getting a Jazzy Cat (Neck only) to go with that potent SD Bridge. Love that twang 🤘🏼
You keep saying slight, that thing sounds completely different lol Way more thick bluesy sound than before. I think now it's a better solo instrument, just because the sound is so much more dominant. But before it had merit for its nice thin sound as well, good for more sweet, less aggressive sounds I think. Anyways, it was cool to see the difference. Thanks for posting!
sounds pretty good after the change. nice to hear rock/blues playing and not country....
Thanks Steve, yes I'm very happy with them :)
+Mike Bradley I hate to tell you this man, but the original Fender pickups sounded better. It sounded more like a guitar. The Seymor Duncan pickups may be louder, however they don't sound musical....they sound very plastic.
Fair enough buddy,I still have the originals. One day I might pop them back in.
I thought they sounded coppery wirey .
The new ones have more of a Jazzy and bluesy tone. Something you could probably get with the tone control on the old ones.
thinking about buying a alnico pro neck p/u for my tele. i have a quarter pound bridge and unknown neck pickup that is terribly muddy and almost unplayable to my taste. your tele setup sounds fantastic pal!
The neck pickup is great for jazz on a tele.I had one but sold the guitar .Just about to buy another as I now have some jazz sessions to inflict on a desperate public.
Duncan Alnico 2's seem to deliver as advertised, softer and less harsh than the rest
Forget changing the water on the salted cod. Fresh cod , boil it up , oil and lemon . Baccala on that blonde finish. Hey it's Christmas somewhere .
That lick at 3:46 😱
I would put the originals back in. Just sounds like an American tele. Duncan’s sound pretty good. But depends on personal preference. Good video.
sounds great.
man im sold! Im getting the neck Alnico II with a Little '59 on the bridge!
Nice one, let me know how you get on with it.
Nice playing Mike, I'm just going for a pair of those PUP's to go into a self build. So you recommend them then?
Thanks Geoff, yes defo check them out.
Hi mate! I'm just considering change the bridge pickup on my 79 tele, the Duncans Hot for tele and the alnico II pro are the choices, after seeing you demo I made my mind, so its the Alnico II the way to go.
Awesome playing and tone. Thanks. Cheers form Guadalajara, México.
Thanks buddy, let me know how you get on with them
Can't find a used Alnico 2 pro tele bridge pickup to save my life. These things go in and they never come out...
Never liked SD pickups of any kind, fit your your old ones back in, I prefer them. or you can send me your old pickups out of it.
Hi Mike it’s been a while now since you installed these SD Alnico Pro II pickups, are you still happy with them? I have a ‘17 Fender MIM Telecaster that I feel is a little to bright with the stock pickups, in your opinion do you think these would be a good choice for my tele? I play mostly classic rock and blues. Thanks!
I'm still happy with them. The bridge is quite hot, I've thought about trying to get a slight lesser hot pup.
Haven't finished the video completely but the stock pickups sounded great. nice and firm, but with a clear edge that comes through. this is a case where swapping the pickups didn't make it better.
Nice sound.. I got a Fender tele. the seymor duncan pro alnico have great sound.
Hi Mike. Can you tell which pickup should I use as a combo with alnico2 neck pickup. I want to get a sound like some bands as Incubus, Bush.
Mike, it's hard to tell what they really sound like from the video. What do you think of the pickups after a few years? Still got that guitar with those pickups? I just ordered a set of these for my MIM Tele.
Yes I still have and love the guitar, really great sounding guitar.
thanks, can't wait to get 'em.
Mike, maybe a review/comparison for software like Bias FX with real pedals?
I just bought the 2017 Telecaster American Professional...the pickups seem too warm for me... I want a late 50s to mid 60s rock and roll Tele sound.
Anything you recommend?
Twang Kings, etc.?
AdrianVino American Special Tele?....with Texas special pup's. It's a more vintage sound.
I think it's just a question of taste, I like the two kind of Pickups, I think the original are brightest and less modern than Seymour's Pickups, according to me, the first seem rudest and more natural in the fender signature "the roots" isn't it?
Thanks for this super test
Absolutely, I like both of them, I've def kept the original if I do want to change them back.
Man! Sweet percussive playing at 7:27 - I'm gonna try and copy. Got any tips to help me out bruh
+Mahdi Y Cheers buddy, check out my video, thinking like a drummer.
+Mike Bradley Youuu got it 8-)
how do you only have 1k subscribers, your videos are great, keep it up.
Thanks mate really appreciate it. any help spreading the word will forever be appreciated.
He's got over 70k now. I'd say he's doing all right!
I'm thinking about putting these in my Talman.
Cool, let me know what you think.
The Talman Prestige models, 2016 and 2017, came stock with these. I'm still getting used their sound in my very recently purchased 2017 TM1702P. It's WAY different and more traditionally Tele sounding than my factory Texas Special loaded 2018 American Special Tele. They've already inspired new licks, riffs and songs.
People can be forgiven for believing that I love green Talmans since besides the aforementioned Screamers Green Metallic 1702, I also own two '90s era Talmans. A Metallic Avocado TC620 and a Metallic Green TC420 that I love to play.
(What age is too old to have a favorite color and really like pearloid pickguards? My Tele is Sherwood Green Metallic, BTW.) = )
thanks for posting great job. no disrespect but this confirms my guess. i don't enjoy the mid range sound. stockers were best to me.
+hetjaar Fair enough buddy, I still have the originals so there always there if I want a change about.
Yeh, liked the Duncans better!
The new ones sound a bit muffled. And with less pronounced character. Put the old ones back.the sound of the old ones is probably why you chose that tele in the first place.
can you play this with more gain without buzzing sound?
What kind of pickups were the original ones?
American Tele's are fine but the mexican Tele's got that special 'bite', they got the 'fire' !!! ;)
Mexican and their hot sauce, eh?
Thank you for your answer! I think a Tele or Strat wasn't made for heavy metal music. Ibanez guitars would be the better choice.
@@MartyMartin87 hehe As you well know, folks pay $1000 or more extra for that "fine" quality. I've found there to be quite a wide range of tonal qualities across the American line, including some with more bite. But hey, if you achieve what you like with your MIM, you've created a very nice win-win.
I do enjoy playing my MIM Duo Sonic HS, fun little guitar, along with my American Special Tele, whose bite, it's true, isn't exceedingly Tele sharp.
holy crap! If only you lived near detroit and could teach me some sweet guitar licks! I'd be happy to play half that good!
+riotgrrrlchannel Cheers buddy. I do Skype lessons if thats of any interest to you :)
+Mike Bradley-cool! I'd like to hear more !
drop me an email at mikebradguitar@aol.com
namberak in a good way i hope! :)
That dirty neck tone really reminded me of a SG P90
What tele is this? Is this an American Tele or a Mexican or a Squire AffiniTY?
+Angel Martinez Its an 60th Anniversary USA Model.
Mike Bradley thanks for the video...what were the original pick ups?
Do you name all your guitars and give them girls names?
Not all of them, but pretty much! Haha
My mind is set, im getting the seymour duncans for my japanese tele
+Tonight The World Dies Nice one, let me low how you get on with them.
what jap tele you got ? I have a 2004 in Candy Apple Red all stock minus the jack
Daniel Weston I think it's a 2005 japanense 62 telecaster. Rosewood fretboard and a white finish that has slightly yellowed. It's the R series (serial number starts with r). It's got all new electronics. CTS pots, CRL switch, Switchcraft output jack and seymour duncan pickups. It's a beast
It doesn't sound like a Telecaster anymore.
Love the video....love my new Tele....a FSR Tele....made in Mexico (with everything made in USA)....ash body with maple neck....with reversed controls (great and easily reached for volume swells and tone wahs)....and Hot Standard Tele Single-Coil Pickups (Neck & Bridge)....wouldn't change as just fine for what I play....but your video was interesting....love your playing
alder with maple board is very middy. When You put these pickups in it you are giving more mids. Just does not fit in my opinion. I would look for 50s style pickups in this guitar.
do you use 250k pots for vol and tone?
It's all standard.
What is it with people who point with their middle finger?
Holding a pick, or pre-emptive strike?
I'll take your stock pickups
Good demo - amp used here?
Thanks, the amp is my fender super sonic 22
Mike Bradley Ok, thanks Mike. Great tone and playing!
Man, you can play!
+Liam Tahaney Cheers Liam!
sold
i thought it was 60th anni of the strat?
Yes this year is the 60th for the strat, but 3 years ago when I bought this it was the 60th for the tele.
oooh i see now mate
11:48 inxs tone ayyyyyy
Man, you are suppossed to play the guitar not attack and strangle it......also the pick up change was not much. compared to a lot of decent telecasters on youtube.........I am saying it as I seen and heard it.........been playing for over 50 years......happy picking.......BTW I modify, tune, adjust and change pups and capacitors on guitars........have listened to many....all sorts too.........cheers
+poppa bear Like most pups he'll mellow as he ages and ease into it as he grows...dang nab good for where he's at :)
Yes, he attacks it but elicits great tones as well! Plus he is doing it for review purposes....
Way cool. There is no sound like a telecaster : )
+Stranger Horse ps your music man has that feature by design...Leo Fender didn't give up after CBS bought him out....steel wool and wet sanding...the tele I'm building now ( I finished the body but bought a custom neck....look at it in the light....sparkly tonewood: ) I also appreciate the cut down sides on the rear pickup plate. Easier to get the root sounds down there and works better for me too. Thanks for another lesson : )
could anyone tell me what i need to change on my mexican made tele to make it sound exactly like the american standard? thanks
+TracksByDesz most of it I would imagine is the hardware. I expect the frets aren't rolled of on the mex either.
aah ok. thanks so not just the pickups? i have a nashville deluxe but its made in mexico. do you know any names of the hardware?
Just go to Fender's website and look at the two guitar spec pages side by side. Pickups will make the biggest impact. Professional series uses the newer V-mod pickups. I believe the older American standard used the twisted tele set. The other big difference is the three brass saddle bridge. You would want to check with a guitar tech however to make sure it's compatible on the Mexican before purchase. Those would be the two I would consider. I wouldn't worry about the frets or nut. You can get too crazy and at a certain point it would make more sense to just buy a used American tele.
Alicono? Hehe 😜
Looks stoned
I was just about to invest 16 minutes in this.
‘Alicano’
Pass.
Fuck it... the originals are better
if you can't be bothered to mic up why even do the comparison video
Seymour Duncan single coils are trash
You talk too much, just play the guitar dude
Those pickup's suck !!!
alder with maple board is very middy. When You put these pickups in it you are giving more mids. Just does not fit in my opinion. I would look for 50s style pickups in this guitar.
