Oh, I had forgotten all about this build.. :) I have a thing for 2-seaters, especially unusual ones and yes, the paint scheme is nice. Nightfighters don't have to be all black..
Well, like I said, you're the one that inspired me to get this kit bought AND built! I was lucky to spot it on ebay, and luckily it never went into a bidding war. I ended up paying a small fortune for another kit I was bidding on, but I was determined I should have it, and in the end I put in a killer maximum bid, which he still almost outbid me on. Oh, the drama! Still, the kit is in my wardrobe stash now, awaiting a keenly anticipated build! :) Glad you liked my effort here, thank you, Sir. :)
Another awesome build, I know you this is a old video, but I really dig all the old videos, and kits reminds me of the 80's and happier times. Thanks rob 🤝
Thanks for showing off your build and video....nice job. Gotta love the old Revell, Frog, Airfix kits.....how many of us started building kits thanks to these cheap kits as kids. Yeah, not much detail in them back in the day, but as kids, who cared?
I really like this one, so it was good to see it come together and get the history lesson as well and boy, they are big suckers! Only when you see them next to people do you realise their size - especially that front wheel strut!
Thanks Pete.. I have a some more old Frogs coming up later on, the next one will probably be a Gloster Meteor F.4.. but not sure when. I really must start the renovation / continuing build of my Lanc next and get it done.. :)
Thanks.. This aircraft ticked most boxes for me too.. so I was pleased when I found (and won) the kit on ebay! :) It is one of those kits I had to build very soon after buying it.. :)
Absolutely excellent!!! I have always been a fan of the two seater more than the single. I built a 1/48 of this kit some time ago, and it was quite massive. Excellent job on the squiggles, hard to do brushed.
Thanks.. I'm still working on the format of my videos but it's mainly the talking bit that needs a bit of work! I'm thinking of scripting what I want to say so I don't forget half way through or get stuck for any other reason.. :)
Thanks.. and yes, this is pretty big for 1/72 so it must be HUGE in 1/48!! Would love to builkd a larger versio of this plane at some point though, something with a bit more detail.. :)
Yes, I knew that was you.. :) Thanks for adding me!! :) Looking forward to seeing the Albatross, whenever it gets posted.. please let me know when it is done as I don't want to miss it. I miss far too many videos these days, unfortunately. :) I have finally got round to the Lancaster, this morning I repaired the broken landing gears, and tomorrow I'll fix the broken cockpit, then it will be back to how it was when I put it away! Hopefully it'll by done by end of next week, if I can keep at it!
Thank you very much!! I used a fine brush with a pointed tip.. Got a few 'blobs' but luckily they all sort of blend in and after a coat of varnish it gets all 'uniform' anyway.. :) Patience and a steady hand is required, sadly I do not possess any of that but sort of managed anyway.. :)
Duxford is only a reasonably short car ride away from me, I hope to go there this summer, finally! We had planned to go last summer but my son wasn't up for driving, having undergone surgery and so on.. This year hopefully we'll make it! As for Hendon I have been a few times, they have a BIG model show in May every year and my club always display, we normally have a table right in front of the B-17 Flying Fortress, next to the Fw 190 :) I hope to go again this year, it's always a brilliant show!
I would only sand the filed areas, otherwise you will lose a lot of detail.. :) I can't remember what grit I use mainly, but I think it is 400, or something.. also, it is always best to use wet & dry sandpaper, as you can wet it down for a smoother finish.. :)
I think the nightfightertrainer variant looks nicer than the regular! That'll be the version I build if I ever get my hands on the Revell kit anyhow! Great build as usual!
Thanks for this Video.. i ahve that Frog DO 335 and was going to build it Night fighter as opposed to captured with English markings. The Decals are fried, but I have aftermarket which will do fine. I will add the details as you have and it will come out great. Your Video here will be played a few times over so i can see all your work.. Great Inspiration for my building of this Kit. Thank you again...
Yes, please do a tutorial on brush painting scale models. As someone who cannot afford airbursh at the moment I really look forward to such a tutorial.
Thank you.. and no, no rescribing! I haven't yet mastered the art as good as I'd like so thought the better of risking it.. :) Need to find a cheap old Airfix kit to practise on, I bought a rescriber but it is too 'fine', and don't do the panel lines deep enough for my liking, bearing in mind that I handbrush.. so I will try and buy a different scribing tool when I next go to a model show.. :)
I envy you guys in the UK. Your just a train ride away from Ducksford! If the RAF Museum your talking about is Hendon yeah you should go! I was there in the 70's and I really enjoyed it! We can't drink beer at the snack bar at any museum here in the US!
Absolutely excellent work, a stunning result. I really like German night fighters and odd/interesting/rare aircraft so this ticks all the boxes. I also love the night fighter cammo squiggle pattern. Keep it up.
Thanks.. it's not bad for an old Frog kit, I guess.. :) I had fun building it and I'm glad I did the extra squiggle pattern as it made a big difference to the completed model.. :)
I have seen the REAL DO 335 at the National Air & Space Museum. I also built the Lindberg kit in 1/72 when I was a kid. Revell has the Monogram kit in 1/48th.
It'll be worth the ride, I'm sure.. :) I'm lucky to live reasonably near the RAF Museum outside London, and a few other museums as well, which I haven't yet had a chance to visit.. but maybe this summer it will finally happen!! There's also a lot of small airfield museums in the area, anything from WWII bomber stations to fighter fields.. most of the used by the USAAF at the time. The closest airfield (the 'famous' Boxted Air Station) is only about 20 minutes away by bicycle... :)
I guess this plane would have been pretty hard to shoot down, yes.. it was big, but very fast and quite agile! So the game is probably quite realistic in that aspect, I guess.. :) Glad you liked my model.. much appreciated.. :)
That's a nice build up of a great, classic kit. I remember building some of these in the Revell box. Speaking of Luft '46, I wonder how this would look in Italian or Japanese markings?
Strangely enough* my viewings have gone down, as has the comments, since I started doing talkies more.. but I will persevere.. :) :) I enjoy the different format, but I'm still working on improvement.. :) * = Not so strange really, I sound like Donald Duck..
It towered over all other models. Sadly my 3 year old got a hold of it. If I remember, it was an old Monogram kit and it didn't have much detail either.
I did my National Service in the Air Force.. that's why.. :) Probably the most interesting time in my life.. :) As for the camo, it took a while to do but I'm pleased I did it, as it makes the model look a lot better.. :) Thanks.. :)
Well, most models with a tricycle landing gear, i.e the single wheel at the front rather than at the back, will not have the correct balance, if you don't weigh them down in the nose! And the easiest way to do that is to add some weight before you glue the fuselage together.. it saves a lot of bother later and makes the model stand in a realistic way.. :)
I love modeling butnim having some problems when I paint the under side in ether 90 or 20 airfix paints they are to runny even when properly mixed can any one help
Thanks.. I'm yet finding my feet when it comes to talkies.. I think I need a written script as I always forget what to say or get stuck... :) But other than that I'm sort of enjoying the experiance.. :) Glad you liked the model.. :)
i used to fly a lot of Combat Flight Sim 3. This was one of the hardest aircraft to shoot down.... not sure if that was because it really was or it was just the game,.... anyway, as usual, your work is stunningly good.
When sanding down the filler should I sand the whole plane with a fine grit sandpaper or only the filled areas? Also, how fine should the sandpaper be without making noticeable scratches? Great model by the way! :)
Yes, I thought (when I did my Lindberg 1/72 single seat version years ago) that it was well and truly out of scale.. but it turns out it must have been a massive aircraft.. :) And the 2-seater even more so.. but it was a fun build and I took a leaf out of your book and did some scratching, however basic.. :) All good fun.. :)
I do indeed... :) The more the merrier.. and yes, I'm keeping up, albeit at a much slower pace than I hope to do.. but alas these days I only seem to be able to build in the mornings after work (if I'm not to tired) and at night during the weekends.. again if I'm not too tired! So I don't get done half of what I want to do anymore.. sigh! :P
It was definetely in the books, and had the war carried on a few more months it would have happened, in as much as it had been possible, considering fuel shortage and lack of trained pilots.. I was in doubt wether I should have added the 'spaghetti' pattern, but I'm glad I did as it made the finished model look so much better than in the intended 2-tone camo.. This model will definetely go on the club table at any show I may attend this year! :) :)
Thanks.. I have a big liking for night fighters and intruders and this just had to be buit, even if it technically never saw active service in this version.. :)
Well, as you have obviously missunderstood the title I guess I better explain that 'Frog' is the name of the kit make, just like Revell, Airfix, Academy or Tamiya, just to name a few.. :) I knew the Do 335 was called the Anteater, it sure looks like one with a biot of imagination.. :)
Very nice! The camo must have been very hard but I think it was handled beautifully :) btw I'm intrigued, why were you in the Swedish Air Force? The plane is also wired, a breakthrough at the time?!
Ah, that's a shame! Is it beyond repair?? Just like most other makes, Monogram kits are a mixed lot.. they often have detail like gun bays and such like, but not always much in the office.. :)
thats good, hope to see ur lanc soon, i will send u a message when my albatross is done, i really hope to see more videos and camera updates :), hope to see that that lanc popping up soon :)
Да, это ночной истребитель, но он не видел действительную военную службу. Война закончилась прежде, чем эта версия действительно полетел! Рад, что вам понравилось модель, спасибо! :)
No your right it is the only DO-335 left! Yeah I do consider myself lucky I live near the Smithsonian.National Air & Space Museum. I also need to get to the US Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio too! That will take my about 6-7 hours to drive there!
Thank you very much.. as always I had great fun building this, I think these old kits have a certain charm.. :)
Very nice paint scheme! Although I prefer the single seater your Pfeil looks great!
Oh, I had forgotten all about this build.. :) I have a thing for 2-seaters, especially unusual ones and yes, the paint scheme is nice. Nightfighters don't have to be all black..

Thanks rob 🤝
Great video Robert. I really enjoy having you talk about the aircraft/kit instead of text. Nice going :)
Thanks for showing off your build and video....nice job. Gotta love the old Revell, Frog, Airfix kits.....how many of us started building kits thanks to these cheap kits as kids. Yeah, not much detail in them back in the day, but as kids, who cared?

That's some camo scheme, it looks terrific and nice to see a Frog kit, not seen that old box art for years...all the best to ya...Pete...
Thanks.. This aircraft ticked most boxes for me too.. so I was pleased when I found (and won) the kit on ebay! :) It is one of those kits I had to build very soon after buying it.. :)
Thanks.. I'm still trying out different ways to make the videos more interesting.. I have some more work to do yet, I think.. :)
Well, your amazing camo painting sure makes it look like you've got a steady hand!!
Absolutely excellent!!! I have always been a fan of the two seater more than the single. I built a 1/48 of this kit some time ago, and it was quite massive. Excellent job on the squiggles, hard to do brushed.
Crazy looking plane. The camo pattern looks deadly. Loved it as usual thanks dude :)
Thanks.. I'm still working on the format of my videos but it's mainly the talking bit that needs a bit of work! I'm thinking of scripting what I want to say so I don't forget half way through or get stuck for any other reason.. :)

Another superb job as always! You seem to have a knack for painting the more complicated camo schemes : )
Just about to build one of these old frog kits. Great video.

I guess now I have a workable camera with good sound, i.e my new mobile phone, I should mnake the effort to do a tutorial.. :) Glad you liked it.. :)
I love the new voice-over thing you do for he history bit of your videos!
I would only sand the filed areas, otherwise you will lose a lot of detail.. :) I can't remember what grit I use mainly, but I think it is 400, or something.. also, it is always best to use wet & dry sandpaper, as you can wet it down for a smoother finish.. :)
WOW, you did a fantastic job on the paint job, first rate brother!
I think the nightfightertrainer variant looks nicer than the regular! That'll be the version I build if I ever get my hands on the Revell kit anyhow! Great build as usual!
i love thos nachtjäger camo patterns, great work man :) never thought of the possibility that the pfeil might have served as a night fighter.
Thanks.. I actually enjoy painting those camo patterns, it is quite good fun.. but patience and a steady hand (none of which I have) is required! :)
I will try, just need to figure out how to set my mobile up, it doesn't fit with the camera tripod.. ;)
Thanks for this Video.. i ahve that Frog DO 335 and was going to build it Night fighter as opposed to captured with English markings. The Decals are fried, but I have aftermarket which will do fine. Thanks... and yes, the scribble camo made a big difference.. :) :)
Yes, it is an antique, but I love the old kits so I had great fun building it.. :) :) It went together very well.. Thanks!
Absolutely excellent work, a stunning result. I really like German night fighters and odd/interesting/rare aircraft so this ticks all the boxes. I also love the night fighter cammo squiggle pattern. Keep it up.
looks great very nice camouflage the frog kit must be old but stil made up well

I have seen the REAL DO 335 at the National Air & Space Museum. I also built the Lindberg kit in 1/72 when I was a kid. Revell has the Monogram kit in 1/48th.
The song is called 'Fliegerkameraden' and is an old song from WWII.. :) Thank you.. :)
I use a fine tipped brush and go carefully.. an airbrush would have worked better, but I'm still happy with the end result.. :)
Excellent work, on a old kit to deliver a great Luft 46 aircraft. Very nicely compiled and discussed vid.
very nice work Rob, i really like the camo upon it, like the commentary throughout the video, Keep Up The Good Work :)
It'll be worth the ride, I'm sure.. :) I'm lucky to live reasonably near the RAF Museum outside London, and a few other museums as well, which I haven't yet had a chance to visit.. but maybe this summer it will finally happen!! It would be greatly appreciated.

* = Not so strange really, I sound like Donald Duck..
how does he do that awesome video
Will check out your channel later, I probably missed a video or two when muy computer was being repaired.. :)
It towered over all other models. Sadly my 3 year old got a hold of it. If I remember, it was an old Monogram kit and it didn't have much detail either.
Awesome, Rob! I didn't wait result like this!
If you can, please make a tutorial, how you make the videos!(programms and stuff..)
Thanks.. :) I alaways glue them, otherwise they'd be loose, rattling about in the cockpit.. :)
excellent model mate, but tell me why do you put weights at the bottom,i know there probably is a simple answer,
Hi
very nice Plane.
Can you tell me, how do you made the speciale camouflage for this Nightfighter? The look is fantastic.
Greetings.
Very sharp looking build.
I did my National Service in the Air Force.. that's why.. :) Probably the most interesting time in my life.. :) As for the camo, it took a while to do but I'm pleased I did it, as it makes the model look a lot better.. :) Thanks.. :)

how do you do that night fighter camo pattern (the squiggly black lines)?
Thanks.. and yes.. it is definetely more interesting than the single seat version.. :)
cheers mate, did not know, will remember if i build a plane which i hope to do later on in the year
The two-manned version of the arrow (Pfeil) was the anteater (Ameisenbär) and not a frog. ;-)
You're very lucky to have seen it, I think that is the only one preserved in the world.. but I may be wrong.. :)
Nicely done mate
weight a minute.. why the wait???
When sanding down the filler should I sand the whole plane with a fine grit sandpaper or only the filled areas? Also, how fine should the sandpaper be without making noticeable scratches? Great model by the way! :)
It really looks amazing! How did you paint these tiny lines without using an airbrush???
cool, i know the group about the Wolrd airfix kit trip, i asked about signing up next year, is it jonny plumb who runs the group,
Very nice! Always like the German nightfighters. Perhaps you could someday do the nightfighter Bf-110 if you havent already.

Nice video, as always. Did you re-scribe the panel lines after you sanded down the raised panel details?
Amazing finish
Another amazing build ;) Thanks for sharing! :)

A fantastic airplane I must say. =) Well painted and executed!
Do you glue the pilots into the cockpits or just place them there?
Thanks.. I have a big liking for night fighters and intruders and this just had to be buit, even if it technically never saw active service in this version.. :)

Hello Rob, Thats another lovely build mate, How did you get all the squiggles done, that must have been frustrating
What song was that? Btw great job!!
Excellent job!
Hi Rob . Love the camo scheme . Which colours did you use ? How did you paint the squiggle scheme ?
Thanks.. I will try and do that, if I can.. :)
Yes, that was me some 31 odd years ago, when I was in the Swedish Air Force.. happy days!! :)
Very nice! The camo must have been very hard but I think it was handled beautifully :) btw I'm intrigued, why were you in the Swedish Air Force? The plane is also wired, a breakthrough at the time?!
Oh yeah.... it's well beyond repair. It was a fun kit but did have some fit issues. Think it had raised panel lines.
As soon as I have something to show or tell.. :)
поздравляю! отличная сборка! самолёт с экипажем из двух человек, это ночной истребитель?
Thank you very much... :) :)
Thank you.. :)
Thanks.. :) That plane called for some scribbles, I think.. ;) :)
Ah, that's a shame! Is it beyond repair?? Just like most other makes, Monogram kits are a mixed lot.. they often have detail like gun bays and such like, but not always much in the office.. :)
