‘Eyes Down’ looks like a rip off of That Peter Kay Thing episode also called ‘Eyes Down’. Which brings me on to a suggestion. Excellent- That Peter Kay Thing. I’m sure it doesn’t need an introduction, but it’s a mockumentary which aired for 6 episodes (excluding the 1998 Comedy Lab Pilot) on C4 between January & February 2000 showcased the lives of characters (Most played by Kay) in and around Bolton. Many of Kay’s best characters came from this show including the characters from episode 1 ‘In The Club’ which obviously got its own spin off show in the form of Phoenix Nights- Brian Potter, Jerry St Clair (played by Dave Spikey), Max & Paddy and the like! Although my personal favourites from this series has to be Mr Softy Top & Leonard!

Underrated: Banzai , hilarious spoof of some of those crazy Japanese game shows. It featured placing bets on such events as whether an old lady could reach the top of her stairs on her stairlift before Fish from Marillion could finish singing his hit song “Kayleigh” as well the classics Mr ShakeHands Man and Lady One Question (and Burt Kwouk). Place bets now !

I've suggested Hyperdrive for a bad one like 3 times now and you never mention it! 😅 Pretty sure it was BBC early 2000's and only had 2 series, Starred Nick Frost, Kevin Eldon and Miranda Hart (🤢). I remember being excited for it when i heard of it as i was massive Pegg/Frost fan and the trailer's looked good but it was so boring and disappointing when i watched it.

Another forgotten animated gem and possibly underrated is Channel 4s Muran Buchstansangur. Muran was essentially a head and face with arms and legs but no body. He was a melancholy sort who lived in a kitchen cupboard. Rather than going on exciting adventures or even flights of fancy, the narrative of each episode would centre on Muran facing a problem or dilemma Muran would ponder over, often being aided by his friends. I think it was more aimed at adults than kids. I also originally thought it was of Eastern European origin given the name of the character. However, it was actually British.

Forgotten, the dark and twisted but hilarious UK adult animation Monkey Dust show on BBC Three in the early 2000s. Excellent, US quirky comedy Northern Exposure, full of great characters. Rubbish, Kinvig from 1981 - despite being written by the brilliant Nigel Kneale of Quatermass fame, this sci-fi comedy didn't live up to the promise.

Good / Forgettin JUST THE TEN OF US is American sitcom starring stand-up comedian Bill Kirchenbauer as Coach Graham Lubbock, a teacher and the head of a large Catholic family with eight children living in Eureka, California. The series is a spin-off of Growing Pains,.Coach Lubbock's four eldest daughters, the teenagers Marie (Heather Langenkamp), Cindy (Jamie Luner), Wendy (Brooke Theiss), and Connie (JoAnn Willette), became the primary focus of the show. On the topic of Phillip Glenister, here’s a two for one:
Amazing: Life on Mars (UK) - One of the most engaging and entertaining drama series I’ve ever watched, and genuinely funny to boot.
Awful: Life on Mars (US) - They tried, bless em. They really tried. But this was rubbish, and the ridiculous ending just insulted the brilliance of the original.

I need help finding the name of kids tv show. I’m normally pretty good at digging this stuff up.
Shown on CITV circa 1993 at a guess. Probably only ran for one series. It featured two parents becoming a couple and moving in together in a large house with their kids. All I really remember is the youngest daughter had a Jack Russell and its poo was shown in a bucket. The family car may have been a VW type 2 camper … but that’s more a feeling. Childhood memories might be playing tricks on me

The moment you said Eyes Down was a British Sitcom I thought that'll be a rubbish one then won't it? And lo it came to pass.
Demons was originally going to be called the Last Van Helsing. I assume ITV then thought too many viewers wouldn't have read Dracula. It didn't quite work, because it tried to be a pre watershed show. I would watch it and be thinking 'watch Supernatural and see how it should be done!'. Philip Glenister would have been great in a Bobby Singer style role, after all. He Quit Demons after the end of the first season saying he couldn't make the dialogue work. Then it got cancelled anyhow. I recall a radio times interview a few years later where he said 'Demons wasn't my finest Hour. I was still too much in Gene Hunt mode'.
If you want more rubbish ones:
Piece of Cake. 1988 ITV Sunday night show following the exploits of an RAF squadron from the start of World war two to shortly after Dunkirk. Didn't actually watch this but it got nothing but bad reviews at the time and was slated by critics. Spitting Image did a good parody called 'piece of fake.' Mind you those who watch historical shows just to nit pick about people having the wrong number of buttons on their jackets had a field day with it. So they got what they needed and wanted from it. Not that such folks would ever admit it. Although just looking up imdb reviews most are well in the positive, so maybe it has picked up a following.
Allo Allo. I don't need to explain the premise, I am sure. I happened to watch the second episode of the first season when it was initially on. Although was only partially paying attention to it as I was trying to write something at the same time. And I hated it. All the jokes were so obvious in their set up as to be unfunny in the delivery. It was completely puerile also. So I never watched it again. Am I being fair calling it rubbish on the basis of one episode? Maybe not. Do I care? no.
Talking of Philip Glenister and American accents:
Underrated; Outcast. Ran for two season on fox. Was from Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman. All about demonic possession in small town America. And one man who has the power to remove the demons from people. Philip Glenister played the local priest. Did a perfect American accent. Frankly I think he was even better in this than he was as Gene Hunt. Which is saying something. Rather passed without notice in this country though. There was a comic version of the story also, which did run to completion.

I quite liked The Mick with Kaitlin Olson as an underrated show. I seem to remember it being shown in a terrible slot on something like ITV3 at 11pm on a Thursday, and only the first series ever aired. I guessed Fox killed it as Always Sunny is a cash cow for them

Forgotten - Psychobitches, a largely ignored, absolutely bonkers show seen only on Sky Arts for two Seasons and one Pilot about 10 years ago.
It starred Rebecca Front as the straight-laced therapist of various notable female figures from history, trying hard and often failing to keep the session under-control and co-starred a variety of well known character players like Sharon Horgan, Julia Davis and Samantha Spiro as the female notables seeking therapy. Their take on Enid Blyton was memorably weird, if not faintly slanderous. Michelle Gomez as usual often stole the show, including a turn as a barely understandable Mary Queen of Scots (and I'm Scottish) and my God the Bronte sisters had issues! I think Reece Shearsmith played Princess Margaret in one episode. Their version of Barbara Woodhouse was TERRIFYING.
The weirdest thing I remember them doing was a song and dance routine featuring three of the Mitford sisters, Unity (the Nazi), Nancy (the author) and Jessica (the Communist) - just as crazy as it sounds. It’s very much an acquired taste but an interesting take on comedy.
Rubbish - K9 and Company, a disastrous early attempt at a Doctor Who spin-off from 1980s Who Showrunner John Nathan Turner starring the late and lamented Elizabeth Sladen as the beloved Companion Sarah Jane Smith and John Leeson as the voice of K9 the robot dog on adventures to investigate the occult and the supernatural. A show so lamentable it never made it past the Pilot stage (the episode ‘A Girl’s Best Friend’) and is now almost mythic in the lore of the Whoniverse. I doubt anyone under the age of 40 has seen it - sadly, they aren't missing much.
Lis Sladen had to wait another 36 years until the BBC took another crack at staging a spin-off starring her character, the INFINITELY superior Sarah Jane Adventures - a wait that proved sadly overlong given that Lis would subsequently pass away from cancer during Season 5 in April 2011, leaving behind many heartbroken Whovians for whom she had been such a big part of their childhoods. #RIPLis
Excellent - I am going to suggest Dark Skies. An American 1990s sci-fi, conspiracy period show which started in the 1960s about a young and optimistic Government aide John Loengard played by Eric Close who discovers evidence that parasitic aliens known as The Hive have been on the Earth since the 1940s and were staging a discrete invasion and the US Government knew, leading to Loengard’s post-Kennedy assassination disillusionment and personal mission to prevent disaster.
It was easily the best of the ‘influenced by The X-Files’ shows, but had its own vibe because of its historic setting and its use of historic events and people to tell its story. It also put sci-fi icon Jeri Ryan, the future Seven of Nine from Star Trek on the genre map, casting in the role of top operative Juliet Stuart and is the most credible in her, “before she was famous” roles and a sign of things to come - she's now the incumbent Captain of the Starship Enterprise - who could have guessed?

I don't know how familiar you Brits are with Herbie The Love Bug, but he had a short-lived show in the late-80's I want to say, simply titled "Herbie The Love Bug", I think. It was the only successful TV series based on the character, but there were two other attempts to bring him to the small screen: A scrapped CGI cartoon of which there's oily one screenshot, and a canceled series where he was a high-tech car, rather than just naturally alive, which was only an idea which later morphed into a short-lived show called "Fast Layne" which had only original characters, and did away with Herbie. The point is: I find the Herbie show I talked about first to be underrated and forgotten (mostly the latter)

If you want to combine the themes of good/underrated TV shows with Eerie's Vault, check out the Canada/US production "Sanctuary" (2008-2011). Although it undergoes some shifts over its 4 season run, the core premise is that all manner of myths and monster tales have their origins in "abnormals" - ranging from humans with supernatural powers to bizarre creatures of all shapes and sizes. Some of these abnormals live among us, keeping their differences mostly concealed; others avoid contact with ordinary humans as much as they can. The central characters operate a sanctuary for abnormals, studying them while keeping them safe from the various threats they would face if their existence became widely known.

Modern Toss, Hit and Miss and Don't Worry (this was a satirical current affairs show from 2004 that aired on channel 4. Not only do I think it's underrated, I'm probably one of about ten people that even remember it exists😂)
Also Stranger Things is an overrated pile of asshole hair

GOOD - THE MOLE (Channel 5) - The American Netflix Reboot is OK, But the OG Channel 5 series was GENIUS!!!
FORGOTTEN - I am going really old school with this one... JOE 90 - A Gerry Anderson Puppet Animation... I dont think it was ever as popular as Thunderbird's, but I know I enjoyed it! And the Theme Tune... I have not watched it in DECADES yet I can already hear that tune in my head!!!
RUBBISH - It about time someone said it as there were so many Big Brother style Spin offs... SURVIVOR... Just BLOODY AWFUL! Every contestant was a Wannabe Celebrity, Not actual real people (Sadly, an issue that the Netflix Reboot of The Mole also has... SO WHY THE F**K AM I GOING TO APPLY TO BE ON THE SHOW???) - Yes the challenges could be fun but lets be honest... It was AWFUL! And since it has pretty much died its death, we also know a good 70% of it was Scripted so it wasn't even real!
Much as Folks moan about I'm A Celebrity ... Get me out of here! - Which owes at least part of its life to Survivor... There really is unexpected things happen!!! (No one could have staged that Cockroach that went up Fatma Whitbread's nose...)
and another... RUBBISH ONE, Also Forgotten and best forgotten! FLEABAG MONKEYFACE ... A CITV children's cartoon that was choc full of Gross out Humour... And I am no prude! I love Gross out Humour, There was juts one problem.. THE CARTOON WAS NOT BLOODY FUNNY! It was absolute TRASH!
It tried to be a Children's Ren and Stimpy Show, and FAILED!!! (I was not fan of Ren and Stimpy either.. But at least that could make me laugh!)

A funny show I remember was Night Stand with Dick Dietrick, a spoof of Jerry Springer-style shows that was in US syndication in the mid 1990s. There were some cast members that appeared regularly, like Hamilton George the plastic surgeon, and some "audience members" who asked questions. I loved that show.

I really have to disagree - maybe it’s my nostalgia from watching ‘Eyes Down’ with my Gran in her last years but it was a cheeky laugh. ‘Stressed Eric’ was bloody awful and actually boring - one joke every episode and it was touted as “The U.K. Simpsons”. I agree that ‘Demons’ and ‘Big Lake’ were truly bloody awful - although there is unintentional comedy value in Philip Glenister’s crap American accent in ‘Demons’.

Very subjective really. IMO Stressed Eric was garbage. Phil Glenister can’t act to save his life. Awful in Life on Mars.
All US sit coms are dreadful. Except Cheers, Cheers was good.

For a rubbish choice I would say that Everybody Loves Raymond is a contender. It was actually quite a decent sitcom on it's first incarnation. But I've come to resent it because it's been repeated every fucking morning on Channel 4 since The Big Breakfast was cancelled. And that was about 30 years ago. DON'T get me started on Frasier. GNNN

Same with the Big Bang Theory. Which I loved. But it finished five years ago and E4 seem to show pretty much nothing else.

And those Channel 4 broadcasts are edited to remove some of the more mature humour. As Ray says, it's not about the kids. Still a brill show though.

@@ClearLight1967 @paultapner2769 Agreed. Maybe there is a sub series in this for Retro?

You know, you could always turn the TV off and do something else.
      Don't have to watch it.
