This is too cool. I have lived in this area since 2006 and hung out here in this 90s. That is the Glencairn subdivision and then Loche Katrine and Hwy 6 where the Kmart use to be and then Hwy 6 going south. Remember the tornado in 92 that damaged the library on Clay? I think that Kmart also had damage as well as that Sonic on Clay.
a light pole fell on my uncle’s car in a grocery store parking lot in front of bear creek subdivision that night. didn’t it rip the roof off the library?

I was born October of 1976, at Heights Hospital and stomping grounds are etched in my mind and seeing this and hearing the music puts me in a trance ❤❤❤❤❤
I’m also October 1976 but grew up about four miles north of the Washburn Tunnel off Federal Road so that stretch, Pasadena, and Baytown are my memories. I loved seeing so many parts of west Houston as I’ve lived on this side since 2002 and we are now in Jersey Village. If anyone has video or pix of 290 from 8 to Senate/Jones/West/Eldridge etc , I would love to see them! I collect/summarize Jersey Village history as a hobby (only have lived here for four years 😆).
I don’t know how I stumbled across this video, but so much nostalgia! I was born in 93, and my family moved here in 94. I grew up in the alief/fort bend area and to see this is crazy! I knew exactly where the video started 😂
@@calebmouse_ glad this video landed in your feed! I just drove through aleif/fort bend last night going home from Christmas dinner. I'd love to try and re-record these views to see the difference some 30-odd years has had on the city.
With all due respect I was born and raised in H-town all my life and this video has to have been made at least by 1996!! And let me tell you why!! At 6:05 to 6:06 you noticed a Sam Houston Tollway sign on the Southwest Freeway and Sam Houston Beltway wasn't built until 1996!! I should know because I currently live 1/4 of a mile from the tollway 😀
I appreciate your comment. Looking at it, I suspect it could be 1993, maybe 1994. Only reason I say this is because I'm in this video, I'm the smallest child towards the beginning. I couldn't have been older than 3 here, born 1991. You're right that it's probably not 1992! But I don't think it's quite 1996.
Found this online! Here's a summary of the construction timeline for Beltway 8. Construction of the Sam Houston Tollway, also known as Beltway 8, began in 1985 and was completed in 2011: 1985: The first 27.5 miles of the tollway began construction. 1987: The 8.6 mile segment from US 59 (south) to I-10 was completed. 1988: The 8.6 mile segment from US 59 (south) to I-10 opened. 1990: The segment between US 290 and I-45 opened. 2011: The final section of the beltway system was completed.
@@SitDownArchivesI apologize I was about to delete my comment because I was dead wrong!! What I meant to say was that the Sam Houston Beltway expanded in 1996!! You when I was a kid in the late 80s early 90s my parents never drove on that side of Houston, but we did drive through the Sharpstown area quite a bit!! You were right and I was wrong!! You know I remember looking on the internet in the 2000s and it did say that the beltway was built somewhere in the 80s 😀💥
@@SitDownArchives thanks for this post because I learned something new today!! Do you know when you were driving down the west side of the Beltway near Bissonnet and Richmond, I noticed some of those office buildings and apartments that I still see today!! I just drove by that area on Christmas Eve!! Keep bringing those videos if you have more friend 😃😄

@ yep sure did, a news clip of it is on UA-cam. It also damaged the apartment and a store on Clay as well as a hanger at West airport.
@@billybassman21 could you possibly drop a link to the library video??

Wow, I was seven in 1992 and resided outside the Dallas area during this time. Amazing footage!
@@sangregato7831 Thank you! I've got some more to come.
I was only 2 and born in Houston!
Looks like an Old school version of today
Houston was a little calmer then compared to now
