I had a BMW once. It honestly caused me very little issue compared to a couple Chrysler’s I had and a couple GM’s I had. The only problem was the cost. I busted a ferro-filled bushing once on a pothole and it was $600. But I paid for the maintenance package, so aside from that, I didn’t pay for oil, brakes, wipers, etc. I’d do it again if the wallet ever allowed it.
I had three and they are not as unreliable as what people say and the issues are predictable. My last one had 136,000 miles and only needed a water pump (known issue, all three had theirs fail at 90,000 miles) and the fan blower motor. I would still drive it today but its a coupe and i need four doors so i traded it i for a VW Golf. I buy parts online they're much cheaper than the dealer.
Very true
Their build quality is just as good as any other car, they're definitely designed to be driven hard. They just require a little more care at service time due to the complex components.

BMW had the right concept with the "range extender" hybrid, a small petrol engine to recharge the battery rather than driving the wheels. But they stopped making that as well.
I would of bought an i3, but the tires last 20k miles and costs like $1000, that turned me off for good

That's just plain damn vulgar. Have the damn thing spew out odors.
@@NeverTalkToCops1 well look at it this way. You still hear it on the inside but it doesn’t get the cops attention everytime you downshift like my e46 m3 did. @6:40 it looks like a giant Cicada ! both its grille looks like the mouthparts ,its eyes are the headlights & the gull wing doors like its wings
Good name for it , "Cicada". too bad the Germans don't know what those are much.
My son owns a beautiful 1981 Delorean - and he gets all kinds of attention when we go to a restaurant and get out with the gull wing doors. Sometimes it is too much attention, especially if our friend drives his Delorean also - then we have 4 open gull wing doors and people want to take pictures, want to sit in the car, etc. It's fun, but you can't just park and go inside without lots of attention.

Opening the hood voids the warranty?
What?
What about the NSX? It is also a hybrid and it has almost double the hp.
I remember when this thing came out it looked so futuristic... now in 2021 every car looks so crazy that this just blends in a little. Sure it looks fast but now it just looks normal. Very forward thinking of bmw
The Pontiac Aztec was futuristic looking when it came out too. Definitely blends in nowadays
@@GuerreroDelInfo that thing is hideous!
@@GuerreroDelInfo it was a fail🙄
That’s because futuristic looking cars are not futuristic their modern cuz they are done as much to not be “futuristic” but normal and modern
@@GuerreroDelInfo how do they blend in? Considering their low production/sales numbers and their overall poor quality, we have precious few “futuristic looking” (see: “fugly”) Aztecs left running here in the USA.
They are rare. I’ll see at least 20-30 grand prix models on the road before I see one Aztec. I’ve seen more first generation Pontiacs grand prixs around here than Aztecs!
They don’t blend in to me :)

Nice car. I know someone with one and used a daily driver. First if it needs to be towed, good luck finding a tow truck driver that will tow the car. Second, at least in our area tires are not available. My friend had a flat, the car was towed home while he waited for new tires. If a person can afford it and willing to live with the short comings, it is fun.
Anyone who can buy one, ought to have a few other cars too.

Scotty is a legend because of him i bought a 1994 Toyota Celica ST205 and i love this car!
I'm always amazed at what "rich" folks throw their money away on.
Yes, but they helped make it affordable for us. My dad was an early adopter of hybrid technology, and I use to chide him about it, but he would respond that he was spending my inheritance so he could leave something for his grand children. As I get older I find that I understand what he meant more and more., and understand why what he did is so important.
@@brenturquhart7090 I agree.
I bought a 2001 Prius in 2000, for full MSRP after a year or two on a waiting list before they brought them over to the USA. When seeing another one on the road, we'd honk or even pull over to talk, sort of a cult car. Not long after the Gen 2 came out in 2004, that ended, and pretty soon half the people driving them had no particular knowledge of what they even had, other than it was a nice car that got great mpg. That's OK, because if you needed special knowledge or special ways of operating it, the market for it would be too limited. Many people were surprised that you just put gas in it, and drive it like any other car. My Prius Prime, you can do that also, or you can plug it in if you wish, choose an operating mode if you wish, etc. But by default, it makes perfectly fine decisions on its own if you just treat it like a regular car.
Over the 20+ years since getting my first Prius, I've led directly to the sale of probably around 10-12 of them by my friends, though no family members have gotten one yet. There were 5 times when I accompanied a friend or girlfriend to the test drive and purchase negotiations. A little advocacy and hand holding can go a long way to helping friends and family adopt new technologies which may otherwise seem mysterious or risky to them. It also helps make up for the fact that car salesmen are generally clueless about the features and operation of unusual cars.
Not always the case. There are rich people who are basic. They don't need designer clothes, or a Mercedes benz
@@danielcarrillo1057 yup and depending on your definition of rich there are a lot more frugal rich people than flashy rich people.

BMW may have sold 3300 per year, but I think this is the worldwide sales figure. Total sales in the US were just shy of 7k over 8 years (2014-2021)...so fewer than 1k per year, mainly because 2021 had only 18 sales.
The i8 really is a spectacular looking car as well as being an engineering marvel. Sadly, it just doesn't have the performance to match its looks. It is rumored that BMW might bring back the i8 but this time as an M-variant with the performance to match the looks. We'll have to wait and see...and hope they do.

This is not the only three cylinder engine that BMW mass produced. The first was in the BMW K75 models. 750cc triple that was placed in the bike longitudinally like the K100 four cylinder bikes. Unlike the K100 the K75 was super smooth and it was overbuilt like the K100s. I have personally seen K100 and K75 powered bikes with over a half million miles on them.
Technically this is not the only 3 cylinder production engine that BMW has made. BMW made the K75 motorcycle that had a 750cc liquid-cooled horizontal 3 cylinder engine known as “the flying brick”
Bmw also make the 3 cylinder turbocharged 1.5l B38 engine inside 1 series hatchback sold in Europe
“The flying brick” is the K100. The K75 was a slightly later development of it.
THE K 75 AND K 100 WERE BOTH WATER COOLED. What else most folks do not know was the K75 was just about the smoothest running motor ever invented and made. You could stand a chap-stick on end, start the motor and the lip balm would not move! I won lots of wagers doing that.... The K75, when maintained half way decent, would last over 300,000 miles!

Good luck if that breaks down, even the dealership will have problems repairing that awesome technological junk.
3 cylinder turbo is also used on Mini F56.
The highest 1 year sell rate (Customers who sell their car after 1 year) belongs to BMW. Not Dodge. People are not prepared for the maintenance cost. In other words, they make junk and then rip you off on repairs with proprietary parts and computer systems. And in terms of customer satisfaction, they rate no higher than GM! Consumer reports have rated them below average on a whole and never above average in terms of reliability since 2007! The i8 has all kinds of electrical issues from everything I read.
