so, I take it you aren't gonna buyout the i8 after the lease? I'm not gonna go find all of the other videos you did on this car, so what has it gone to the dealer for other than routine service? How long did it sit at the dealer to get fixed? What would have been the cost(s) of said fixes if out of warranty? Will the i8 make a good 2nd or 3rd owner car 5 or 6 years down the road? Since you seem to be into Hybrid "supercars", why not seek out the new NSX. Similar concept, but with only 2 seats and report back with the differences btwn it and the i8. And since your leasing it anyways, no biggie, right?
Its not fake sound, is the real sound transmitted by conduits to the cabin, using the speakers because they are strategically placed for better acoustics, ¡but not because it is a sound they are playing!
Surprisingly these thave dropped greatly in price.. Might consider getting one used. I'm glad I came across this channel to hear about the ugly aspects of owning this car though!
The most interesting word you used was, "mundane." A $150,000 hybrid that looks and apprarently drives like a space ship to be called 'mundane' is awesome!
I have a 2016 i8 Pure Impulse. It's been like any other car so it depends-do it yourself oil change/oil filter once a year = $55+$35. Dealer = $250+$150 if done at the same time. Similar with spark plugs. Fuel is really less expensive with 34MPG km the city and 40 on the highway. Unless you drive WOT which I do several drives a week because the car is so much fun flooring through a turn=priceless.
I hate the fact that BMW’s depreciate in value so fast after warranty. A BMW I8 headlight costs $6000.00 each if you need to replace it. The electronics always have issues after so many miles and it’s not cheap to diagnose and fix. Everyone leases or buys new and sells them after warranty expires. This leads to a flood of after warranty cars on the market that need repairs or shortly after. Wouldn’t be so bad if the replacement parts were cheaper in my opinion.
Luxury Lives On I know, you are probably tired if yours by now. We are super excited about ours. Thanks for the reply. The mystery continues. I assume you used the emergency latch to get out?
Ok looks are subjective. That is all up to a person's taste. My issue with the I8 is that it is not really a car worth over 100K. BMW is the best at making people over pay for stuff that they really could get for thousands cheaper. This car at the most should be in the 90K range and nothing more. Is it flawed....yes but what high end coupe isn't. I wouldn't call this a super car that is a huge stretch.
@@TheDumanify Dude just stop. First what you want from a car in this segment is different for each buyer. To some the lack of performance of this car after it is driven hard and loses a charge is a deal breaker. Also everyone doesn't think it looks as hot as others. There are cars under 100K that can shame this car you just have to be a car guy to see it. You can't be a person that worships at The Temple of BMW.
RayJ-HT it‘s all about taste. Dont be so rude. If you want a sportiv hybrid car, then i would say the i8 is the best pick. And i never heard of performance problems from the i8. And i know that all european cars which are NOT sold in europe have always bad quality. (Im development engineer by audi in germany.)
@@TheDumanify Well I wasn't trying to be rude sorry if it came across that way. At the end of the day it is a gas powered car. It is not geared for efficiency so the hybrid part is void to me. Now when this car is tracked and the battery is gone the performance does degrade.

My 2013 328i xdrive gets 0-60 in 5.6 seconds plenty fast for me... in eco mode it gets 40 mpg on my commute. For a few hundred I can get it tuned if I need to go faster...and I picked it up for 13 grand (off lease). It has the sport package so it has a nice trim level . And I used to like this car, but having seen it up close and personal, it’s not worth the price, it’s a nicely designed rip off. Your smart to lease it with the horrible depreciation....I mean I just said I’m driving a 40k dollar car for pennies....how much more would my wallet hurt to buy this new or used
Despite BMW's claims to the contrary, these i8's have been covertly piling to the ceilings at BMW's ports of entry so dealer's can appear not to have a lot of stock. Yet every dealer seems to have several - which is odd for a car that is "SOLD OUT". By spending $3B on the i-car project, BMW shot themselves in the foot by eliminating the flexibility of using different powerplant displacements. They have no way to " down-market " the vehicle to spread the costs around, as they do with EVERY other series. As an EV, owners are reporting a 29 MPG average....which is pitiful for a car developed for efficiency. A 20 year old 7 Series gets above 20 MPG with no modification whatsoever. Finally it does look like a spaceship - but in a silly " Space 1999" way. Three year old models are available now at HALF the original MSRP....not very encouraging.
@@oeiras99 i agree.. But bmw just went for weight savings fuel economy and for the whole revolutionary hybrid supercar idea ... So they compromised on the grip. They just wanted to get a message out there and be the first to have a fuel efficient supercar
Shortly the new 992 generation Porsche will be hybridized so it will be interesting to see how it does in fuel economy with 305 rear tires up from 295 in the previous generation. They provide grip and give the car a great stance.
@@oeiras99 yes well Porsche is an all out performance brand they dont really care about fuel efficiency and luxury, i think their idea of hybridizing the 992 is for performance oriented reasons only, unlike BMW's i department.
My friend bought one last year. Broke down the 2nd day so the dealer gave him another one and 2 months later electronics were failing and also it left him stranded on the freeway. Dealer just said they will give his money back lol
I own one. It has a standard HD 360 camera system with trajectory lines. The center of gravity is so low it's like driving a go cart. 0 to 60 in 4.4 seconds is very fast but not crazy fast. I can't imagine a better handling car. All wheel drive allows it to perform without the rear end sliding around. Because a computer is putting power wherever it can without any wheel spin you won't enjoy any burnouts. Burnouts are so old school anyway. If you want that get a Dodge Challenger with a HEMI. It will peel the rubber off the rear wheels, go nowhere fast, and make TireRack rich. The ride of a "M" will beat you to death, the back end will slide, but it will do a half second better on the 0-60. The "M" is old school. The M3 is a box with a big engine. It's like the 1973 M3. Nothing to look at but it drives great. The i8 is the future. It looks fantastic, drives fantastic, and used you can buy them for $65,000.
Your getting rid of yours before the trouble begins. Very smart move! In 10 years this car will be massively depreciated and who ever owns it will visit the BMW service center a lot. $$$$$$ Camaros, Mustangs and their Mopar brother are built to a standard of toughness like the good old Sherman Tank. North America has more to offer than you might think.
@@antoniogriffin7135 honestly i did have to take it to the dealership for multiple different technological issues. But so far they were all just small computer malfunctions. Although irritating i still like the car. I just don't reccomend anyone buy one passed its warranty period. I did have to get new brakes and new tires. Which were pretty pricey. Brake job came up to around 2400. And the tires i dont remember exactly but i wanna say i paid around 1200 or so

Since you seem to be into Hybrid "supercars", why not seek out the new NSX. Similar concept, but with only 2 seats and report back with the differences btwn it and the i8. And since your leasing it anyways, no biggie, right?
yes that would of made for a better video but he's just rich kid drivin daddys car
Its not fake sound, is the real sound transmitted by conduits to the cabin, using the speakers because they are strategically placed for better acoustics, ¡but not because it is a sound they are playing!
I8 is my dream car and Bentley truck is to
Surprisingly these thave dropped greatly in price.. Might consider getting one used. I'm glad I came across this channel to hear about the ugly aspects of owning this car though!
@timtimzi - Cycling and Gaming its for 60k now. You think its worth it?
I like the car and they are cheap used. Any insight on reliability? You mentioned the door, why were you getting locked in or out?
definitely wouldn't mind having one of those in my garage...
I’m glad when reviews actually talk about legitimate bad stuff about a product.
I wait and get for 20,000
Goodluck lol maybe in 2030
It's fairly cheap now!
Same
yeah right!
idk how much they were but you can get one for 50k now
The most interesting word you used was, "mundane." A $150,000 hybrid that looks and apprarently drives like a space ship to be called 'mundane' is awesome!
It kinda is tho compared to other $150,000 cars if you ignore the looks
What’s the maintenance cost on one of these for 1 year ?
That's what I'm wondering.. Any updates?
I have a 2016 i8 Pure Impulse. It's been like any other car so it depends-do it yourself oil change/oil filter once a year = $55+$35. Dealer = $250+$150 if done at the same time.
Similar with spark plugs. Fuel is really less expensive with 34MPG km the city and 40 on the highway. Unless you drive WOT which I do several drives a week because the car is so much fun flooring through a turn=priceless.
Steve M thank you good sir 🙏🏼 . Congrats on the car 💪🏻
Itachi Uchiha if you have to ask it means you can’t afford it you waster
B N that’s your point of view , but it’s all about mindset. Before I buy something I will do my research on it , it’s the smart thing to do .
Great points! Thanks!
Is it just me or do bmw locks, door handles, windows, and water pump all break?
What do you do for work
PIPERBOY WILLIAMS he doesn’t it’s his dads money
Then what do his dad do for work?
The car looks insane good, indeed, very futuristic.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The back end of the car is flat out ugly to my eyes.
We just bought one. We are curious how you got locked in or out. How low was the charge?
Heidi and Franny's Garage Hey there! Nope not really sure why but it’s only locked us out a couple times.
Luxury Lives On I know, you are probably tired if yours by now. We are super excited about ours. Thanks for the reply. The mystery continues. I assume you used the emergency latch to get out?
Did you run a mile before recording the intro
To be honest with you, that was a good review.
RayJ-HT tell me a car in this price segment which is technically better.
@@TheDumanify Yeah, which car besides the Alfa 4C and the BMW i3, has a CF chassis for less money?
No matter what car you'll buy. You will find video on youtube about " why this car is bad"
Did you notice any battery degradation over time? just out of curiosity
4:12 as a detailed and an owner of white bmw seats. Improper/lack cleaning and mostly no leather conditioner lead exactly so fading leather, crack and more fragile skin
I love it! It's definitely a future classic.
if you had a car parked 12" from your car would you be able to open the doors?
You could fit your worst enemy in the truck good I'm sold I'm getting a i8!!
Truck? This is a car.
You keep saying "our" & "we"
Who are you referring to bud?
Darwin Brown Its not my car it’s my family’s so I’m always very careful to never claim something as being mine if it isn’t. To many UA-camrs are fake and try act rich I’m just a guy who loves cars and has some great opportunities to be around them.
If Cars Could Talk respect 💯
If Cars Could Talk 👊🏾💫
I have heard that these i8s have had a ton of transmission issues. Have you experienced any?
Great video and really great camera work, thankyou from george
Hallo yes 911: yes hi look i lock myself inn my car ...
911: okay hold please LOL
Bruder du hast komplett verkackt
Im surprised the seats are not better quality...had fabulous leather Recaros in my S4..
Solar oven trunk?
If someone parks within 1 feet of the side of the car, you can't get out. Or is that not true?
Thx mate ! Finally rewiev for intelligent people, not only sweet farting commercial of car or " it's the best because I have it" 👍
How much was your lease payment with insurance? I’m trying to get an idea before I make the plunge.
Your smart to lease it with the horrible depreciation....I mean I just said I’m driving a 40k dollar car for pennies....how much more would my wallet hurt to buy this new or used
rambo4war same, got a x28i but rwd. Can max it up at around 306 hp if not more.
rambo4war 328 IX owner here and loving it
Bro. How did you overcome the fault of the doors not being able to open ? Please tell us the remedy. Many thanks.
Jansen Wilder Homestly it would just go away after un-locking and locking the car from the key several times.
Thanks for watching!
Does your i8 not have the manual door release on the interior?
Todd Konifka It does but the car would lock us out of it sometimes meaning no access to the release
I dont get that turning radius is so bad. Usually BMW’s have amazing turning radius
U.N. Owen at that half original msrp though are they a good buy in your opinion
My main complaint about the 8 is the skinny tires compared with say a 911. Why does BMW do that? Economy?
Yes fuel economy..
I think that anyone who buys a sports car would be more interested in grip than bucks.
Looks like something Marty would drive from back to the future
The i8 may become the new DeLorean
I have a black and red one OH My gawd ITS AMAZING O
How have you had it for 3 years and still don’t know how to get in or out of it? No wonder those seats look beaten up.
Do u still have it and its for sell?
It’s an amazing looking car, just the fake exhaust sound is just lame. I definitely would buy one. I’ll wait till it gets to under 40k
Not anytime soon
It’s a sharp looking car 🚘
Very genuine reviews 👍🏼
My friend bought one last year. Broke down the 2nd day so the dealer gave him another one and 2 months later electronics were failing and also it left him stranded on the freeway. Dealer just said they will give his money back lol
is the emulate sound can be turn it off???
Andrew Tan no
My older brother bought one but he says he doesn't have any problem with it
I own one. It has a standard
HD 360 camera system with trajectory lines. The center of gravity is so low
it's like driving a go cart. 0 to 60 in 4.4 seconds is very fast but not crazy
fast. I can't imagine a better handling car. All wheel drive allows it to perform
without the rear end sliding around. Because a computer is putting power
wherever it can without any wheel spin you won't enjoy any burnouts. Burnouts
are so old school anyway. If you want that get a Dodge Challenger with a HEMI.
It will peel the rubber off the rear wheels, go nowhere fast, and make TireRack
rich. The ride of a "M" will beat you to death, the back end will
slide, but it will do a half second better on the 0-60. The "M" is
old school. The M3 is a box with a big engine. It's like the 1973 M3. Nothing
to look at but it drives great. The i8 is the future. It looks fantastic,
drives fantastic, and used you can buy them for $65,000.
you spoke all facts!!! True i8 owner I can see! I'm enjoying the i8 life!
It's an electric car with phony ICE noise and a 150 mile range. Where can you go with it?
Bob Mikan It’s a hybrid, meaning that it has both electric and gasoline engines. Just fill the gas tank for more range.
I just bought a blue one i love it
legin nigellus I’m proud of you
Did you have any repairs done yet?
@@antoniogriffin7135 honestly i did have to take it to the dealership for multiple different technological issues. But so far they were all just small computer malfunctions. Although irritating i still like the car. I just don't reccomend anyone buy one passed its warranty period. I did have to get new brakes and new tires. Which were pretty pricey. Brake job came up to around 2400. And the tires i dont remember exactly but i wanna say i paid around 1200 or so
Is there a hack to change the fake engine sounds to, say, starship Enterprise sounds? I mean, if the sound is fake, why not!
What’s the maintenance cost doh ? For atleast 1 year
So. If ur. At a gas station geting. Gas how is ur passenger going. To. Get. Off if. The door goes up
Can you do the U-Turn again but in a 2020 version?
Im definitely getting one
Not new of course it would be a waste 😂
Did you ever get parked in where you went back to your car and the car next to you was too close to open the door?
HollywoodF1 haha great point. I should have mentioned that. They are German doors so surprisingly they are usually fine unless some jerk parks next to you.
How do you have a vanity plate on a leased vehicle in California?
Well I wouldn't see being able to not get in it a problem. With the door. But not being able to get out. "trapped in a BMW" stuff of nightmares.
What did you guys get?
thanks, great review. definitely in for one of these.
There MUST be an Off setting for the fake noise.
Technically speaking the noise is not fake BMW just amplifies certain sounds
Dude showing the steering had me laughing, showed anyone could get a license
Nice review D, honest genuine no BS. Up yours to all the haters out there
8k Miles for 64k. I might get it
@VuziTube what do you do for a living
stockx method and other methods
VuziTube Did you get the car
