ALSO! I just read the article (and it's linked in the description) and found out that the head designer and Ci-Ci were on great terms. and that Bella jumped headfirst into her vision for the show. So that explains why she always had a more extreme aesthetic.
I love the idea that over layering and many accessories was a Disney money making plan lol P.s. Sometimes cough drops have xylitol in them which is very poisonous to dogs so glad you got on that 😱
I was already in highschool when the show started airing so I was out of the demographic for it, but I remember thinking the fashion was awful! I was absolutely a part of the early 2000s middle school mall emo/scene maximalism thing and Shake it Up always felt like Disney people taking a dead trend they didn't understand and trying to make it mainstream. It felt really weird coming on the heels of like, the Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez era where everyone dressed like a real person or even compared to huge flagship shows like That's so Raven or Hannah Montana where Raven and Hannah (not Miley) absolutely did NOT dress like normal people but that was the point. The Hannah/Miley wardrobe dichotomy was very intentional, and Raven was always serving super cohesive looks, so maybe Shake it Up was a bid to establish a strong, recognizable look that just went wrong somewhere.
This show was my shit and I knew ALL of the dances, tho I was so anxious about my weight I never danced in front of anyone lol (don't worry i solved that problem in my adulthood by not caring)

I'm so freaking glad someone is finally talking about this LMAO
Please give me more deep dives into weird Disney fashion!
Wow that fashion does feel like a blast from the past though
