I really appreciate your channel and I hope you keep making content! it feels like the best time to be into alt fashion because of all the SEWING RESOURCES....
I frequently see the "argument" against handmade lolita from sweet lolitas because they forget that other styles exist and don't need border prints or prints at all. Also when you're plus size or have an "abnormal" body type it can be actually more cost effective to make your own lolita because custom sizing or plus sizing is up-charged and hard to access, or impossible in my case.
take this with a big pinch of salt, it is just my opinion and i'm not in the lolita community, i've been interested in lolita for about 10 years but never got into it because of how confusing it is to find garments that suit the style and because i live in portugal and am earning less than 5eur an hour and so i have to budget my hobbies pretty hard. What has made me dive deeper into lolita recently is learning to sew, it's been almost two years since i started sewing and i know how to source great fabric at afordable prices and sewing is actually fun, hard af but fun! i always hated buying clothes because nothing fits right so sewing in my case is the best, easiest and cheapest option. i also have to wear fairly long bloomers because of chafing and that means skirts that ate pretty long and don't really fit into the lolita thing. anyway idk if this comment made any sense, english isn't my first language ^^'
I just want to sew Lolita to make exactly what in the color ways that I want. Maybe what I end up making won't fit into the Lolita "rules," but it seems too fun to pass up. I can't believe people are saying not to see your own stuff
Daughter really likes the sweet lolita look, but without the print at the bottom, and she (well both of us) are plus sized, so sewing them is really the only way to go. She is an adult.
... What's the thinking behind the idea that sewing your own clothes could be "bad for the community"?? Genuine curiosity from an outsider. I get the idea that you disagree. But what is their concern? I don't want to guess or apply logic from other subcultures that could be entirely incorrect.
The argument against "learnimg to sew to sew lolita because it's hard" is so funny and a bit privileged imo. I am from a place where shipping might easily cost me the same as a dress. I made my very first coord because i was determined to figure out how lolita clothes were put together so I could wear them too. Mistakes are part of sewing and i strongly disagree with the sentiment that "lolita is harder to make than regular clothing" because i can make lolita clothing BETTER than i can make normal clothing. Ask me to make a JSK and i can do it. Ask me to make fitted skirt? Garbage.

Sewing is my goshdarn hobby. No I won't sew a petticoat because I'm not patient enough. But bloomers, main pieces and headwear? Hell yeah.
this was so helpful, thank you!
Re prettier mugs... If you haven't seen Scrimshaw Pottery mugs yet, they are $$$ but so cool/pretty & total goth vibes.
