Just to clarify, that was not a failed maneuver, this was a forced landing, there was something wrong with the plane, the pilot send a mayday signal and return to Costa Rica (it was supposed to land in Guatemala) when they landed, the plane was not slowing down properly (partly because of the weight it carries) so the pilot had to make that turn, otherwise they would haven gone straight to the highway.

What? Where did you get the 757 (or any plane) has a lifespan of 20 years? First, airplanes are not designated a "lifespan" ...manufacturers and operators don't count years, they count cycles. 30,000, 40,000, 60,000 cycles etc. Do you know there are still over 600 757's in active service including about 100+ still flying for Delta? Delta won't retire their 757's until the late 2020's. Age rarely has anything to do with an aircraft crash...it is usually maintenance, pilot error or etc.

If airplanes were structurally firmer, they would be too heavy to fly. Therefore they are fragile, at least not made to withstand loads such as those generated when falling into that depression perhaps 3 or 4 meters deep right next to the runway of El Coco Juan Santamaría Airport in San José CR. The fuselage broke in two. The airplane broke in many more parts. Poor insurer. For sure this B757 will be written off.
