Hi Luke! We are on a Blacksmith School hiatus until the Texas heat breaks, we'll pick back up in the fall with power hammer basics.

Look up treadle touch on the Internet. This is my take on it and you are welcome to copy it. Wendel Broussard is the genius behind that design. Thanks for watching!

Really love seeing these videos. I appreciate the time and effort this must have taken, and I don't want to seem ungrateful for what is here, because I am, but the fullering and slitting of the NISG seems to have been lost in editing. I have a pair of monkey paws made pre super groove, and would love to add that feature on my next pair.

      Hi Matt!
Nice to hear from you! Are you still hammering on that big 350 lb.Fisher? Best anvil ever!
I appreciate the acronym, the name of the tongs is wordy and growing and needs abbreviation. Regarding the videos, I thought about writing to bookend my 26 years of teaching blacksmithing, but I felt videos capture a myriad more of the smaller unspoken details of technique.
I’ll have to look back, seems that the fullering and slitting is in there somewhere, we didn’t edit much if at all, much to the dismay of fans of instant gratification rapid fire image videos. Twenty hours to make a pair of tongs, ridiculous, but the devil and the craft is in the details. The fullering and slitting create a pocket and hollow, which cradles the stock from all sides. I’ll mention the fullering and chiseling technique again in future videos, rockin’ in the groove!
The MHODWTNISG tongs have definitely evolved, the new improved super groove has created a pair of tongs so versatile to me that they are about the only pair of tongs I’ll grab whether hand or power hammer forging, often in tandem. They hold odd shapes and tapers securely maintaining a minimum three points of contact, they are the only ones burnished from use, the other odd styles left rusting on my tong rack.
      Thanks for watching,
      Will

Hey Will, these videos have been a wonderful nostalgic trip. I definitely still have the anvil and love using it. I have to check my vanity every few years and resist throwing some rods at it to clean up the torch damage. I have never lacked the real estate I need on it as is, and the surface is harder than woodpecker lips, but anvil vanity is a tricky devil. I also have a hammer and a couple sets of tongs that I made in a tool making class that are all going strong. It's interesting to see how the nuances of these tools continued to evolve. There really is a wealth of information here, and I don't think there is any quick way to get it across.

    Hello William!!!
Paul here from Australia, I still rate your hammers the most cherished tools in the shop. Thank You again
Do you still have my email (20 May 2019), I only have the old .edu email for you ?
I am eager to place a tong order for the Littlemonkeyhandsofdeathwithnewimprovedsupergroove (I do like the name)

      Hi Paul,
Really nice to hear from you! I am glad you like the hammers, you have the most complete set!
I would be glad to make for you a pair of LMHODWTNISG, however we are experiencing quite a heat wave and I have put hot work on the back burner so to speak. I'll be back in the forge in a month or so, and will make for you a pair.
I retired from teaching, and although I was assured I could keep my edu email and contacts, to my surprise and dismay everything was wiped clean. You can contact me though at my personal email, the first part is the same, the second gmail.com
      Kind Regards,
      Will
