Your welcome! I try to save and rebuild as many as i can get my hands on. I figure it will, these take a while to break in sometimes. Thanks for Watching!!!
it has not done much work by the looks Of the internals it has not even seen sufficient work to remove the etching off, the cylinders. Need putting to work
On the last couple of small engines, I rebuilt I used the Stens chrome ring set, they come with a 3-piece oil control ring, and I found that works way better than the one-piece oil control ring for preventing smoking with a worn bore, might wanna give those a try next time. I used them on a cast iron and aluminum bore engine with good results.
Nice to see the engines being brought back into service instead of being dumped. A set of stud extractors would be handy for getting bolts out like oil drain plug. I had a stud shear off in the engine block of my car and a few shillings later had extracted it, paid for itself with just that job. Great video as always, thanks for sharing.
I have a 74 8 hp that I’m working on. I had the intake valve stuck, flywheel stuck on and a few bolts rusted down. I was able to get most parts either new or used. Redoing valve seats and adjustment next. Be great if I get this 50 year old classic running again
Great rebuild video. Are you up for a collaboration? Hipa supplies parts for small engines and maybe we would work together to help more people in the community.
I have some i'm going to do at some point, i have a 6hp tecumseh horizontal shaft that threw a rod, a couple kohlers and a few other tecumsehs. Thanks for Watching!!!
I have a 01 8hp I just rebuilt the carburetor on . I noticed on yours that single red wire hanging there. When I was putting the carb back on I have the same wire hanging out. I'm assuming it's a kill wire maybe ??? Can someone tell me what and where it connects to . TIA 👍
I have the same engine on my gokart, is there any chance you here a tapping noise on the top of the cylinder head while its running was just curious, my same type engine needs a lot of work yours sounds great, I wish I could get mine to run just like that
I'd just let it run. The 85 11 horse in the old Craftsman will quit smoking after it runs a while. It's running Delo 15/40 and the thicker oil slows smoking down and lubes better. The car runs Valvoline 30 and everything else runs Delo nd Valvoline 15/40 diesel formula. Tranny's run Lucas Engine Treatment but no engines. A little sticky helps everything. Got an 8 horse I/C on my Roof brand mower. They were used on tree farms a while back. 28 inch cut, blade is belt drive and wheels (bike size) are snapper drive. Runs like a SWiss watch and sits all winter and starts 3rd pull. Thanks, Pal and Blessings!
I have a 5 horsepower Briggs & Stratton generator that I just picked up part of the muffler was glowing orange last night when I was running it. This is only something that you can see at night when it's dark out. Is this normal? What are the possible causes?
Timing off from a partially sheared key on the flywheel Running too lean Leaky valves ( needs a valve job) Those are some of the reasons that comes to mind, at this moment.
Usually a glowing muffler means a leaking/not completely sealing exhaust valve, very common on older engine, and as R Verro pointed out, running to lean can cause it to along with other things, but the flatheads are bad about the exhaust valve clearance getting to tight and making thevalve not seal, not to bad to fix, lap the valve and file the clearance, might as well do the intake while your in there! I've seen one on a tiller put out a constant flame to it was so bad. Next time i run into one doing this I'll make a video! Thanks for Watching!!!
I typically use the 3 stone hone to true it up and if I have one I'll give it a few finish strokes with the ball hone since it produces a more uniform and finer finish. Rings always seated in quickly and no oil consumption.
that's not smoking it just breathing heavily. from standing It needs exercise To liven up it fitness. it's like me after a winter OF sting about Not working. LOL
Thanks for sharing. I don’t see many people who are into rebuilding the flat head engines. Nice job hope it stops smoking.

Yes Sir ! Frank is back at it. Thanks for the lessons and sharing, young buck.

Nice to see you rebuilding this 36 Year old classic engine
I try to save and rebuild as many of the flatheads i can find! Thanks for watching!!!

Thank u for the awesome videos man
What number spark plug? Do you use on that eight horse?
Awesome explanations great wprk
How do you setup the governor on those engines so they don't go wide open on you.
Great rebuild video. Are you up for a collaboration?

I got one of these from 1986 on my baja warrior mini bike they got a lot of power
Im rebuilding a 6 hp ohv briggs 120312 its all aluminum do I hone it or deglaze it?
Love to see you do some kohler and tecumseh engines

Where’d you get the rebuild kit? I’ve got one and want to rebuild it.
Thank you,
Alittle oil burn will keep the Mosquitoes away, lol
Nice job Bud👍🏻

That piston is really scored. I would have replaced it for sure.

5 horse I'm asking about is very similar to the one that's in the background when you're painting your muffler
Timing off from a partially sheared key on the flywheel
Running too lean

Leaky valves is the most common cause on the older flatheads, but the others can also cause it as well! Thanks for watching!!!
@@fnaguitarplayer9 I'll look forward to seeing that episode thank you
Leaky valve guides?
Do you ever use a dingle ball hone on a motor like that
I've never used one before, I feel like the other ones true up the cylinder better then those. Thanks for Watching!!!

Those drain plugs make such a mess anyway I just use the oil extractor through the fill tube
Why did you bother with this video. No settings etc
