Yes!!! My mom passed in 86 and she lived figure skating. I remember the last winter Olympics before she passed. She was so excited to watch Scott Hamilton and there wasn't much TV she watched but when figure skating came on even my dad had to change the channel. When I see Scott I think of her and smile. I could care less about quads and such. He was the ultimate showman. The audience loved him.
I was nine years old when I saw him on television. I still remember this routine like it was yesterday. Watching this today in the year 2022 makes me feel like a kid again. He was unreal. When he got on the ice, you knew you were going to be entertained. Best of all, you could tell he loved what he was doing and HE was having fun, which made us viewers have fun too. He will forever be the best skater that ever lived. No one compares to Scott and those badass back flips!!!
His artistry will only be compared to John Curry and Brian Boitano. But for back flips I gotta give it to Robin Cousins, with his long ass legs. I believe he was the first to do one in the Olympics, as well.
Oh yeah!!! I kept waiting for the backflip...Waiting for the backflip... Waiting for the backflip... And he didn't do it. Like millions of other viewers, I sighed, but grateful to see Scott back on the ice, even without the backflip. I'd prayed daily for his recovery. But then-- "I wouldn't really be back..." And the audience SCREAMED IN ANTICIPATION... HE DID THE BACKFLIP!!!!! One of the greatest comebacks EVER!!! I had tears rolling down my face from sheer joy! 😺💕🐾
Scott had it all! Talent, perfection, determination, showmanship, spirit, personality, joie de vivre and everything else! There are other good skaters, but they’re all chasing Scott! God bless him!
I was a sportswriter for 35 years, and the loudest ovation I have ever heard was for Hamilton in 1984. He was doing a charity exhibition at the arena where he learned to skate, and the building shook when the reigning World and Olympic champion took to the ice.
Scott was thrilling to watch..no fear. Now all they care about is quads and triple that and triple this...no entertainment like Scott was, he had it all! Get out there and have fun!!
see now I disagree ... even Scott talks highly about Nathan Chen. Nathan has progressed past the quads regiment & has added fun artist motion into his routines. & it's not just Scott as all the greats look at Nathan as a throwback to them but going beyond. Don't detract from some icons not only in US but around the world. There is a young one out of Japan that smacks of old blended with new. Then a very young skaters coming into play here in US. Just needs more experience. Took Nathan a while. Just as it did Scott. I admit Scott is favorite of mine. Legend that will never die out. He marked the sport. Just like Jason Brown.

I once asked Kurt Browning at a book signing once, what influence Scott Hamilton had on him as an entertainer. Browning's ability to hold an audience is great, but Scott Hamilton is unparalleled.
I remember watching that competition when it was broadcast. Everyone thought Brian Boitano was a lock for the top of the podium and Scott’s routine just blew everyone away.
He always has skated with a pace and energy you just don’t see today. His intricate footwork is amazing ! The way he synchronizes his movements to the music is perfection. You can tell he loves doing this, and who can ever forget those awesomely cool backflips😎⛸

Scott Hamilton’s always been one of my favorite figure skaters. Everyone else takes themselves way too seriously for their own good. But Scott has always had a good sense of humor. He’s clever, too, and it shows.

In his childhood they thought he had celiac disease and his parents took him all over Ohio trying to figure out his failure to grow. Just a great book about how to deal with illness and other setbacks in life. Truly inspiring!
I'm 80 years old. I have followed Ice Skating for decades. When anyone says ice skater I immediately say Scott Hamilton. He was best ever! That famous back flip! Totally threw the judges into a tail spin when he did it. I loved this performance and remember seeing it live. Thanks for posting it. ⛸🎖⛸
I just don't think there will ever be another like him. He will always be the best to me. Seeing him live was amazing! I got to the Hampton Coliseum early so I could watch them warm up & practice. He came out on the ice, saw us & made a bee line right for us, spent a good 20 minutes chatting & was as friendly, personable & funny as I had imagined him to be. The whole show was great, but Scott was the highlight for sure! His smile is infectious.
Scott, Kurt Browning, and the two Brians--they don't make skaters like this anymore. It's all about the jumps these days. I miss the musicality and the fun.
What an all-time incredible skater, but more importantly what an awesome human being with a sense of caring for other people and a great sense of humor. You blow me away Scott you're one of my personal Heroes.
Scott didn't just perform on the ice, he OWNED it. It was his freaking playground. Today, it seems like skaters just execute maneuvers, but Scott was having a damn ball doing whatever the hell he wanted. And he was so good at it.

I loved it when the figures were part of the Olympics. Scott Hamilton had it all and loved every minute of it. I had the privilege of seeing him twice in person; and also got to meet Brian Boitano. They can do all the quads, triples, etc, now, but there will never be footwork like Scott Hamilton. Go Scott.

Trying to explain to my kids how awesome Scott Hamilton was as a skater. He had total control, made difficult routines on ice look like child's play, and those flips! Crazy good.
Scott was the best skater in males, he was so fun to watch, my mom and I loved watching him perform. He was a comic, fun, exciting, and his back flips he was always in control. No one will ever replace him, ever. He is one of a kind. ❤

There are some really talented skaters out there now, but as good as they are they just don't have that something that Scott Hamilton had....his foot work has never been equaled....he was so damn....even at the end he said more with skates than people can say with a mike

Oh, Theresa I so agree with you. I miss the Scott Hamilton era which includes pairs dance and singles. We had more exhibitions, Pro competitions and although all skaters can't do 6 or 7 quads in a program, which is definitely a skill, I really miss the entertainment as well. I. Love. Scott. And the best part was he skated for us, his fans. I loved that great big smile at the end of his programs.
I live in Colorado. Years ago I met Scott when he was getting his drivers license renewed. We talked for a little while, and he gave me his autograph. I still have it. He's truly a very nice person. All the best to you, Scott.

What a Spectacular Figure Skater EVER! I saw Scott at a Billy Ocean venue at the Beacon Theater in Manhattan, NY. and had a beautiful young lady on his arm. This was way back in the early to late '80's. My date and I didn't approach him so he can enjoy his privacy but looking back at it, I kinda wish I had. Anyway, in the end we have ONE THING that no one can ever take from us is our MEMORIES!! This is one of those memories and I'm good with that. HAPPY NEW YEAR ONE AND ALL!! NYC🤘
Adam King you are wrong. Many skaters have done back flip. Scott wasn't first who has done this and he wasn't last. In fact, they say back flip is easier than triples, It's just take some time to learn it.

There are some really talented skaters out there now, but as good as they are they just don't have that something that Scott Hamilton had....his foot work has never been equaled....he was so damn....even at the end he said more with skates than people can say with a mike

With all the quads and triples axles and such. Scott Hamilton was ahead of his time in the era he skated. This video of him skating still is as entertaining today as he was in 1994....👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Had the privilege of seeing him all the time at a very fancy private golf course. He was always polite and pleasant to be around.

Oh, Theresa I so agree with you. I miss the Scott Hamilton era which includes pairs dance and singles. We had more exhibitions, Pro competitions and although all skaters can't do 6 or 7 quads in a program, which is definitely a skill, I really miss the entertainment as well. I. Love. Scott. And the best part was he skated for us, his fans. I loved that great big smile at the end of his programs.

I live in Colorado. Years ago I met Scott when he was getting his drivers license renewed. We talked for a little while, and he gave me his autograph. I still have it. He's truly a very nice person. All the best to you, Scott.

Mr Hamilton embodied the whole package. Yes, athleticism, but not at the cost of artistry, & neither of those without the skill, consistency & perfection to back it up. & it shows.
I was eight years old when I saw this routine on television, and I can still remember it vividly! Still one of the best and most entertaining skaters I've ever seen.

What a Spectacular Figure Skater EVER! I saw Scott at a Billy Ocean venue at the Beacon Theater in Manhattan, NY. and had a beautiful young lady on his arm. This was way back in the early to late '80's. My date and I didn't approach him so he can enjoy his privacy but looking back at it, I kinda wish I had. Anyway, in the end we have ONE THING that no one can ever take from us is our MEMORIES!! This is one of those memories and I'm good with that. HAPPY NEW YEAR ONE AND ALL!! NYC🤘

Adam King you are wrong. Many skaters have done back flip. Scott wasn't first who has done this and he wasn't last. In fact, they say back flip is easier than triples, It's just take some time to learn it.
