  • Have you ever wondered what exactly it is that successful people have in common? In this motivating, heartfelt talk, Kim reveals the key to achieving success - and how any person can acquire it. Drawing upon powerful experiences from her personal and professional life, Kim Perell explains how the secret to success isn’t being the smartest or the luckiest - it’s being resilient, failing forward, and staying strong in the face of challenges. Kim Perell is an award-winning entrepreneur, bestselling author, angel investor, and technology CEO. Laid off from her dream job out of college, Kim started her first company from her kitchen table, going from broke to a multi-millionaire by the time she was 30, and selling her last company for $235 million in 2014. Passionate about supporting others to achieve success in life, Kim is an angel investor in over 70 startups, 14 of which have successfully been acquired. Kim attributes her success to her ability to execute, which inspired her to write her bestselling book, The Execution Factor, The One Skill that Drives Success. “I went to an event for high-performing entrepreneurs and the question was asked of the room, ‘How many of you have achieved your financial goals?’ Amazingly, 80 percent of the room raised their hand. Then the question was asked, ‘How many of you feel successful?’ and 80 percent of the hands went down. This example alone shows that there is little to no connection between the standard measurement of success and the feeling of success.”

I’ve travelled the world, made films with different celebrities in it, and I’ve obtained a six figure salary, but none of that helped me feel successful until I started digging deeper and learning what really made me feel the most fulfilled.

I thought having more money, becoming more well-known, and having more accomplishments would make me feel successful, but it didn’t. I just ended up in a vicious cycle where I was constantly on a chase for the next big thing.
The big problem is that we inaccurately chase after the things we are told that will make us feel successful.
while growing up no one told me investment is key to a successful life.

Good talk DAV_B.... We never had the opportunity to invest or know what investment was, things are more easier now than before. To be successful in life you don't have to depend on one source of income, show me a man with one source of income or don't have an ongoing investment and i will tell you how long it takes to go bankrupt.
I started investing with Shermwilli trade few months ago and have made so much profits and still making more and more every month.

Are you someone who reads as much as possible about potential investments and asks questions about them? If so, maybe you don't need investment advice. However, if you are busy with work, children, or other responsibilities, or if you feel that you are not knowledgeable enough to invest on your own, seek professional investment advice.
Investment professionals offer a variety of services at varying prices. You can get investment advice from most financial institutions that sell investments, including brokerage firms, banks, mutual funds and insurance companies. You can also hire a broker, investment advisor, accountant, financial planner or other professional to help you make investment decisions

I am fortunate to have followed my dream since day one when I was kid & dreamed it. I am not rich. In fact, I am broke & haven't had a "regular" job or paid rent going on YEARS now. But I've managed somehow. I am a songwriter & musician. I have well over 1000 great songs (and several good ones not making the cut). The bass player/keyboard/backup singer & drummer/backup singer in my band are my two kids; young adults learning music, how to write, compose, rehearse, produce & perform music. My family thought I was a delusional dreamer...so they cut me & my kids out of MY inheritance my grandfather left me because I worked on his ranch that I helped him build when no one else understood HIS dream but me & my grandma. Instead of litigating, I walked away to continue MY dream unfettered. Life is, was & never will be about money. It's about THIS. The sooner you get to LIVING it, and give up worrying about it, the better. It's not a scheme, a plan or an education. It's learning through doing & doing it at ALL costs. I GUESS there's a benevolent God cuz he watches over us & somehow pays just enough of the bills to keep us going & working hard on it each & every single day...even through sickness, "pandemic", and the sincere efforts of others to stop & impede us. The middle finger speaks to them. My gratitude speaks to the powers that be. Our efforts & fruit of these labours speaks to the evidence of our faith. Need I say more? The songs speak for themselves.

While the story was heartfelt and personally revealing, I am not understanding what tools I'm supposed to utilize from this, which is what I thought these presentations were supposed to relay. stopped watching when she was praising herself for being resilient. Her grandma actually gave her the cash. That's not resilience. That's privilege.

Using the position someone else was born into and which they can’t control is a bad reason not to listen to good advice. There’s successful people that come from all backgrounds and social status’. The only thing that statistically separates the successful from the unsuccessful is their level of reslilience and ability not to make excuses for themselves. Food for thought

The secret to success? I was broke an asked grandma for 10k and invested it into a .com start up. AFTER going to Hawaii and staying rent free with my BF. Okay then. Touching story. But secret of success?

While thats a good point.....but how many people could turn that $10k loan into $100M? And $250M?....With the grit and resilience this woman had, I am certain she would have succeeded eventually even without a grandmother to help her.

The secret to success is have family with extra money and being attractive and young so your boyfriend floats your cost of living... got it. Not to discount your hard work and success, but please make sure to think about your privilege before expounding platitudes.

Most people commenting here bothered to watch the whole thing and found the story inspirational. Then there's the handful (still too many) who seemed to have stopped listening when she said her grandmother lent her $10,000. They apparently rolled their eyes and went straight to comment. Had they finished the talk they would realize her point was not about financial success at all.

We don’t all have grandparents that can lend us 10grand.... your success came from someone else’s money
If you didn’t have them you wouldn’t of been successful.
The key to success is to have a family with money.........

We all know you too can become a multimillionaire ... only if you could get a hold of 10k. Dreams, crushed, forever. Sad.
