I think my favorite aspect outside of the performance was seeing two accomplished, strong women sharing a stage with ZERO animosity or competition or sense of oneupmenship. They went out there fully embracing each other and gave the world one hell of a show.

@@elderfan1 oh of course, not all laughing is done maliciously but in every reaction video I've seen thus far (and there've been a lot) the laughing always seemed to be done ignorantly to the fact that this is a joyous cultural expression
G S....Yes, it is done ignorantly because many people from other parts of the world are in fact ignorant of this cultural expression. To many people, this is a sound version of making a funny or silly face when you're a kid. It's not anyone's fault that they don't know it's a cultural thing....just like it's not your fault that you didn't know that this would strike many people as funny, silly, and random based on their own past experiences. No one can possibly know everything. :)

What you heard in spanish is mostly salsa and reggaeton. Salsa is very popular here in Colombia, even more in Cali (Colombia's third city) where all salsa world champions are born.
Just want to add that Shakira is from Barranquilla a city very close to Cartagena, on the colombian north coast. This is why she sings "en Barranquilla me quedo yo" (In Barranquilla I stay) at 5:32.
"Champeta" is the music genre they dance at 18:19. It originated in Barranquilla too, as a mixture of african and colombian rhythms.

Maybe it could be interesting that you reacts to Rosalía with one of her songs more focused on flamenco style, and comment the different approach to the technique that the USA ways. "De Plata" or "Me quedo contigo" (live Goya Awards 2019) could be pretty examples for that.

It was tough at first, since "singing in class" seems to horrify California students (who've sadly been raised not singing together daily). This would be a great shift in American culture, if students sang in class every day. Thank you.

I like your reaction the best. You were definitely more natural. The rest I've seen were not. I also I dig the appreciation of the performance and music. Unlike the criticism that they got for being too "sexy". The chicas rocked it and it was a first in history. Not only an all Latino halftime, but females rocked that stage. Let's not forget that. 😉
