I know they were some playbacks but you can almost hear thier voices also many of artists sang live but they couldn't dance and some of them ruined the performace so you don't wanna risque your performance

there is nothing more iconic than the "Shakira Shakira" line everyone knows and loves!
I just don't understand why so many vocal coaches are being asked to review the performance. Do people not understand this is like performing when you're running a marathon? You cant properly review this other than to say it's EXTRAORDINARY. Having spent 10yrs working in the NFL and witnessing what it takes to even coordinate a SB Halftime show it takes nothing short of the precision of a military operation to pull it off. The time constraints are UNFORGIVING...everything has to be accomplished TO THE SECOND. What Shakira and J-Lo accomplished will go down as one of the greatest performances in SB history. Add to that the fact they actually did much of their own singing and not a full lip sync to a soundtrack makes their effort super human.
DeeJayRoyalT2 I agree idk how some people can just say “the vocals could have been better” like you try singing 6-8 songs live in six minutes (although they did use some prerecorded vocals) while doing a different set of choreography for each of them and moving around the stage to meet your cue. Some people would faint. I think this is indeed the best halftime show so far.
Shakira said she came with up the my hips dont lie bc when they write music she tells the producers if her hips arent moving the song is not ready 😂😂😂 there for her hips dont lie ❤❤

There were so many cultural references and I'd say probably very few Americans recognized. It was a celebration of culture, and one of the most honoring things these two women could have done for Latin Americans.
The part where JLo’s daughter sang was a form of protest against what Trump is doing with inmigrant kids.... that’s why Emmy sang “born in a USA” and had a bunch a Kid in white and some in jail.
Well, also "Born in the USA" was another way to tell Trump and People that Puertoricans are born in the USA, as Puerto Rico is part of USA that is why Jlo shows Puerto Rican flag at the same time.

Regarding using playback at the Halftime show, what I've learned recently is the production team prefers to use playback as much as possible. The team has six minutes to set up the stage and the crowd on the field. Connecting and balancing microphones and instruments adds so many layers of complexity. I don't begrudge any artist being willing to do anything to make the production team's job easier in support of a fantastic show.
I've never thought about that actually. A very eloquent point. Not that it bothered me seeing playback being used.
That's why when artists push to actually sing live, like Justin Timberlake, there are multiple audio issues.
I love that you are realistic without taking away from how hard Shakira and jlo work. There’s definitely live moments as well as vocal breaks so that when it is live, it won’t sound like they are catching their breath
They both killed this halftime! I love it! It meant so much as a Latino to see two latinas be on such a huge stage with so many watching❤️
They are two beautiful latina ladies love their performances love there move love there singing this the best performance ever in superbowl 2020 love them they both was singing live good job Latina ladies.
In some parts you can clearly tell the vocals don't match with mouth/body movement, but as far it sounds, the live vocals blend perfectly with the pre-recorded ones. It was understandable to use, especially in this kind of show so I think they did a great job.

Cesco 00 Yeah she prerecorded the whole thing during her rehearsal that’s why it sounds breathy to mimic a live performance. Doesn’t take anything away from how excellent she was tho.

Both of shakira and jlo used some playbacks but the whole performance was almost real you can hear thier voices

Actually, the only live parts are when they say things like "come on!"... 90% of the performance is lip synced. Shakira's only live part is when she screams "i'm on tonight" while the crowd carries her, or the "No fighting" she says 2 or 3 times... The rest is not live at all. Anyone who has ever hold a microphone in their lives would realise.
Cesco 00 She sang Empire, Ojos Asi, I Like It, and Chantaje live. I believe She Wolf, Whenever Wherever, and Hips Don’t Lie were prerecorded because those were moments where she danced the most and needed to catch her breath. Most of JLo’s was prerecorded tho except Waiting for Tonight and Let’s Get Loud I think.

Master yes sir on 17:17 was a political statement with the USA treating Latino “immigrants” even thought we are a mixed ppl we mostly are of Native American decent and result of colonization like we don’t belong on the land.. the latino kids in cages is bring awareness to the way latino kids are locked up by the USA with some dying in the process because of lack immigration negligence.. every lyrics from Shakira “no fighting” to Bad Bunny “que viva la raza” to J Balvin “mi gente” to Jlo “let’s get loud” are all put there on purpose to send a message
Those message was for the Immigrant except Puertoricans. Pretty much everyone who are not part of the USA are Immigrants. Puertoricans are part of the USA.

As a fellow Latino, I am honored to be part of not only an amazing race, but such a great culture! I truly show my greatest gratitude for the powerful message all performers sent on stage and how Shakira and J. Lo brought all types of cultures to the stage. ¡Mil gracias! ¡Sigamos luchando, Latinos!
On the costume change, she had the green body suit under the first black leather outfit. You'll notice that the black outfit had a lot of zippers. She goes to the back of the stage while the dancers are writhing around amidst the lasers and placement of the poles and four or five people unzip everything including the boots.

Brian Davis great question. The parameters of a microphone , the synchronicity between track and mouth movement. Spotting moments in shot where the microphone appears to be off. Let me preface this by saying these are just moments within the show and do not reflect the whole performance or undermine the talent of these strong and talented women in any way - it shouldn’t. Just like movie magic, there’s tv magic too and can be an industry requirement at times
Rise Academy of Music I hear what you’re saying. I’m not a vocalist but I am a musician. Honestly, Shakira is a much stronger singer and vocalist then Jennifer Lopez is. Nothing against Jlo she was fantastic.
I watched the performance about 10 times. and you can tell when Shakira is not live, “She Wolf”, “whenever”, “hips don’t lie”, her voice is exactly the same as the CDs, there is no difference, listen to the song. When she does let’s get loud, you can hear she is live, there is a difference in her voice

Jennifer Lopez certainly doesn't get the credit she deserves as a singer, she's been criticized for not been the best singer in the past (it's only over the last few years people and critics have actually started giving her the props she deserves) I can't think of any other female that can deliver that type of solid vocal effort whilst displaying that kinda of Showmanship she did! People may scream Beyonce but show me a video of Video Delivering this type of cheography... JLo seriously is One of the greatest female performers alive love of hate her this Women Can absolutely Slay that stage. She works her ass off and has only gotten better!

Has anyone mentioned that there was no “European singing?” Just wondering.
Last I checked, Spanish is a descendant language of Latin spoken commonly in the Roman Empire. Rome was and still is in the area we now call Italy. Thus, Spanish and all its descendant dialects like those spoken in Puerto Rico and Colombia could be called European in heritage.
Jay Reynolds Sorry, but by that logic, Spanish (as is spoken in Spain) is an Indo-European language along with several others such as German, French AND ENGLISH. So if you want to look at it from a roots perspective the. Every language sing in that performance was European.
I don’t look at it that was and consider those of LATIN decent separate from those of Spanish descent (in this case Columbia and Puerto Rico). And if this is your perspective there are distinct differences between the languages.
they were not trying to represent Europe anyway... they were representing their countries because of all the problem with immigrants that is going on in the US, "European singing" would have been another topic, not that its wrong or anything, its just not what they were aiming to say, in the end, this show was really political. Also that tongue thing Shakira did was because of her Lebanese part as well as the belly dancing, not Colombian, again immigrants.

Why did you say that Shakira was using playback live vocals but JLo was live ?? it seemed they ware both live to me, Shakira is used to sing and dance at the same time and always has a stable and powerfull voice so why does it seem to you so unlikely for her to be 100% live ??

No problemo .When she sang in Spanish , same with Italian, the words are more dominant around the vowels rather than consonants meaning there is less friction and tension with the sound. When we emphasize consonants we can impair phonation and cause tension specifically in the jaw, teeth, lips, laryngeal muscles and tongue.
The words “cuore mio” for example will accentuate the OH and EE sounding vowels :) Italian especially has what’s known as “pure” vowels meaning it has little to no diphthongs (the combination of two vowels in a single syllable) . Most likely than not we will always emphasize on the first vowel which can produce a freer sound. Thank you for a great question and your curiosity

JLO is using pre-recorded live vocals, during let's get loud why don't you notice that when she is animating the crowd she sounds totally different, well just super tired. The thing is JLO is pro when it comes to using playback, and Shakira not, she is always singing live on her concerts, so when she playbacks it is easy to notice.

Manuel Ospina there are certain sections in her performance where her breath needs to be caught and microphone is turned off. This does not undermine her extraordinary talent and ability to sing
Mariah and Shakira fans especially have been pointing out A LOT in the past that J.Lo lip syncs. And it was for the better earlier in her career. Trust me. Now those are the singers who keep getting caught lip syncing lately while J.Lo sounds better with every performance. She never had a singing talent or was a „natural“ but you can see where hard work and dedication gets you. In 2030 she‘ll probably be singing the national anthem 😂
Jerry Seibert It’s impossible to sing live while doing all the things Shakira was doing. She was dancing a lot more than Jlo, belly dancing, playing the guitar, playing the drums, etc. They’re both great.
Water She definitely didn’t dance more than J-Lo. And it’s harder to sing and dance at the same time, than playing drums and singing at the same time. And J-Lo sang on a pole. But I agree they were both great
