Things to consider for this game...
- It's a B game (kind of like a B movie but for video games)
- Voice acting is lackluster in some cases
- Map design and layout is awesome, it really captured what you'd see in T1 and T2
- Soundtrack and audio are hands down the best part of the game
- Terminator variations are nice with some new designs to make things interesting
- AI is lacking, though I found playing on *hard* or *extreme* will have them making them slightly more intelligent
- RPG element is basic, but fits the atmosphere of a post apocalyptic war.
- T-1000 Easter egg
- Story is pretty good considering this company having a small team and budget.
- "He's a man not a god" easter egg poking fun at Rambo
If you're a huge fan and can get passed some of the games' flaws then I HIGHLY recommend this, this is by far the best Terminator game and a major comeback for the company who made that horrendous Rambo game, you can tell the company really put in the effort to make the game authentic to what you'd see in the first two films, they really cared.

I like b movies. A movies mostly suck
There are no such thing as B games, games are either good or they suck. There is no excuse for putting out a game with a last gen engine on this gen consoles and claiming it's "xbox one x enhanced." Plenty of AA studios have put out much better with very small teams. Unreal Engine 4 is literally free and so are so many other engines so there is no excuse for what most of y'all are trying to pass off as "some flaws" just because you are so desperate for a story. You even say the AI is lacking which is one of the most important parts of a video game (especially one about super advanced AI) and it's not difficult for a dev who knows what they are doing to program an interesting ai in campaign modes, Bungie was doing it on the original Xbox.
Kenneth Bowers personally I find the game to be complete shit just my opinion though.
@@ariesradke6193 Some are excellent, like the Chuck Norris Cannon films from the 80's (although any Chuck Norris film is a B movie, but the ones from the 70's and 80's he did are top tier), but I've seen a ton of dogshit B movies that ain't worth the celluloid it was imprinted on.
The music for this game is absolutely phenomenal though. One of the best renditions of the Terminator Theme to date.
Indeed!
I did like how they the T2 Desert Suite for the safe zones and the Goodbye theme at the end at the Time Displacement Chamber but there were definitely more musical cues that could been added even from T1. Example: When you find the ruined Jeff's Big Buns Burgers, they could used the theme from T1 where Sarah rode there on her motor scooter.
Brilliant!!
Especially that hk takedown
It is, but it's really not for me, when I play this game I play a CD of the original movie's soundtrack, I play the theme from the first future war scene with Reese for the real action packed levels, and some of the more somber, ominous themes for the lone wolf missions at night. Really makes me feel I'm in the T-1 future war, besides T-1's soundtrack is my favorite cause I prefer the first film to T-2.
I obsessively played this game to completion and enjoyed the combat and attention to detail of the Future War landscape. The terminators and Hunter Killer tanks were also lovingly recreated. A really enjoyable surprise.
Also if you shot the H/K down there is actually wreckage that stays on the ground ! Looked amazing when I took one down.
@@CliffuckingBooth I was suprised when a hacked turrent started defending me from an Aerial HK.
@@ThePathStrider Indeed! Or that the HK actually falls down and you can loot its wreckage :)

This looks like a perfectly passable budget game. I too am a sucker for move tie in games or AA games that aren't received super well. This releases in December in the US. Love your review, Oliver. You give a very good , honest fan perspective based review. Thanks for putting this out!
I hope oliver reviews the mandalorian or the new jedi game
Mr. Squirrel I think Ollie could absolutely do a video game film tie in review series. I would pay extra on Patreon for that or however he would do it.
Until then, though, I’m perfectly happy with whatever content he wants to share with us!
I wholeheartedly agree.
For like a millionth time - this is NOT A TIE IN ! It was only released after Dark Fate but have nothing to do with it. (thanks goodness) It only reference T and T2.
Umbrella Ops too bad they’re charging full price
That game was exactly what I wanted instead of Dark Fate.
id say yes
Dark stool.
yes :(
Dark Fate was good though.
@@9776722 Glad you enjoyed it. It destroyed the franchise for me and was unoriginal.
This is unquestionably the best Terminator game I've ever played. I've been playing Terminator games since the NES days, and none have been as satisfying as Resistance. The gameplay is old school but fun as hell., The graphics aren't anything fancy, but theyre serviceable and really do put you into Cameron's world. But what makes me love this game is how well written the story and some of the characters are. This feels like the best sequel we ever got to T2.
It's honestly disgusting that IGN gave this game a 4/10. It reminds me a bit of Greedfall in a way; lower budget but a lot going for it. Great review.
IGN's review has a large disconnect with the steam reviews, which are far more positive. I feel players are going in knowing they just want a simple shooter in the Terminator world and it meets those expectations. I feel fans of the series are willing to overlook a criticism or two if it means getting a future war experience.
remember IGN scores depending on how much they get paid for review
They gave doom 2016 7.1 -_- and fortshit 9.6.. what do YOU expect??
If its not COD it ain't getting 9...
ign get paid for their reviews never listen to those clowns/they are not real gamers.
Here they gave Death Stranding a 6 out of 10....I get it's opinions and all but Terminator Resistance doesn't seem like a 4 out of 10 and Death Stranding is NOT a 6 out of 10 game.
IGN has a hard on for Call Of Duty only
I’ll be honest, I was quick to judge this because it was made by the same developers of Rambo the Video game. So I didn’t have high expectations but now I think I’ll pick this one up.
I think the people at Teyon have definitely redeemed themselves with this game.
These devs seemed to have learnt from their mistakes since RAMBO - TVG and have given us a terminator experience that captures the atmosphere of the future war seen in T1 and 2, a feat that hasn't been accomplished by any Terminator movie or game from the past 2 decades (from what I know, correct me if I'm wrong).
Only games that comes remotely close are Future Shock and it's sequel Skynet on PC from Bethesda. Both are excellent shooters.
The cancelled TV show Sarah Connor Chronicles did a good job capturing the original spirit of the series as well. Otherwise, yea. Not much manage to come close to T1 or T2.
teyon really love the terminator lore and its shows in this game even down to being able to call the dog max or wolffy :D
I really enjoyed it. It wasn't perfect, but the aesthetic was pretty spot on, and the music was very well done. I was actually surprised at how well it kept to the source material, with some nice throwbacks to the films, as well as a couple of possible answers to some questions in the lore. All in all, it was refreshing as I really hated Dark Fate. I'm looking forward to the fan-made game too, which I have a feeling will probably top Terminator Resistance, hopefully it won't get a cease and desist though.
From what I've seen of the fan-game Tech-Com 2029, it definitely LOOKS more like Cameron's Future War than the Resistance game but it seems to lack story and interactivity as you'll have to read text box conversations and not have much say in the story like Resistance with it's multiple endings. Also I feel there was a missed opportunity with Resistance not having Jacob Rivers meet and fight beside Kyle Reese since they were stationed in the same bunker but other than that Resistance is great and I bet Tech-Com 2029 will be too. If Resistance and Tech-Com 2029 were combined into one game, it would be the ULTIMATE Terminator game.
Good to hear that someone thought that "perhaps we should try and make a good game" instead of some half assed money grab.
I bought the Mad Max game you recommended and I have to say it was a great fun for the most part.
Thanks.
😁👍🏻
The Mad Max game was so underrated. Avalanche studios did great work on that one and I hope they make another one someday.
Max max was awesome
Mad max was brill imo
Great review as always, glad you're making game ones as I was unsure whether to pick this up or not so thanks for covering it.
IGN giving it a 4/10 is a GOOD sign! I thoroughly enjoyed this game, I'm currently on a second run through with some INI tweaks that improves the FOV, graphics and more
This game looks really good. Most Terminator games range from mediocre at best to absolutely awful.
This looks like it takes the best parts of the more enjoyable Terminator games, and combined them into one pretty damn good experience.
Just got this for Christmas; really enjoying it so far
How are you able to crank out quality content so quickly?
I highly recommend playing the Enhanced Version, Annihilation Line and Infiltrator Mode DLC's
The only reviewer I've ever heard mention surround sound, this information is much appreciated great review 👍
The game is actually great. I especially loved the soundtrack!
Good and balanced review of this game. I enjoyed every minute of it ...
I still play through this game at least once a year. Such a pleasant surprise...it's not perfect, but it's a must for fans of the first 2 films.
The enhanced edition of this definitely makes the animation look sharper and cleaner and the Terminators are much tougher as well.
6:42 Yeah, but Kyle Reese did mention in the first Terminator movie that most of Skynets drones aren't very bright.
ITs a really good indie AAA its only shortcoming is lack of a new game + mode. Its franky better then a lot of big budget AAA games that came out in the last few years and it just oozes references and atmosphere. This studio has a bright future if they can keep making stuff like that. It has to be said this game is VERY comparable to the old bethesda terminator games which were revolutionary at the time and it even uses the same principle as those games AS IT DOES NOT NERF THE TERMINATOR! Even with damage upgrades the terminators are a danger up until near the end of the game when you have access to 2nd gen plasma weapons and upgrades that finally put you on even ground with the terminator and before you get plasma weapons you have 2 choices when facing T-800s and those are 1. run and 2. hide. This game builds up the terminator well
Technically it would be AA.
Agreed, I loved the suspence when I was send on that mission to that university hospital where I encountered my first T800's (not counting cutscene's) the background music suddenly got very tense, I loved it. I actually managed to destroy those T800's without having any acces to plasma weapons yet. I destroyed them by hiding in corners and crawlspaces flicking pipebombs at them, that did the job though. I'm guessing I am at 3 quarters of the game (I'm lvl 17 atm) but have not encountered a T850 yet. I am dissapointed at the lack of earlier Terminator models though, I would have loved to also see some T600's (skinjobs) and hoping on a T1000 or TX final boss at the end! :D
Technically there is a sorta New Game +. Or rather it has replayability. It's like Resident Evil, it has multiple endings depending on how you decide things or interact with your fellow survivors. You might make a choice that gets 1 or more killed & after completion you'll have to replay the game to get the Good Ending.
@@MegaJetty1 yeah i know i played it BUT THATS NOT EVEN A NEW GAME + TECHNICALLY! Thats just replaying the game
Don't need multiplayer, finding a decent new single player focused FPS game is becoming real difficult these days.
The big push is for online stuff full of baloney greed and lazy game design/stories.
Glad they stuck with single player like Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order.
Maybe give these guys: Starship Troopers, Robocop, or the Judge Dredd license?
Heck, how about Aliens and maybe a real Rambo game too.
Hearing good things from independent reviewers, from what I have seen the sound effects and music are done very very well, and the game is the mist fun the first 50% of the game while your under powered, every review that I saw they had fun the entire game long but the last 50% of the game you have such good weapons the threat feels far far less. Was happy to see this on your channel Oliver. Thank you for your thoughts :) on this.
True. But that can be fixed if you don't invest sklil points to backpack, health and weapon and don't use ultravision. I had same problem with Mad Max game for example. I limit myself with upgrades to keep game fun.
At least it looks better than that piece of crap dark fate.
Dark Fate is a joke and now Tim Miller is also!

The plasma rifle sounds, and the soundtrack, make this a game worth owning.
An outstanding profile on this eagerly awaited game, just the right amount of details & enticing for fans of the iconic films & games! Delighted to have discovered your channel via this review my friend, subbed.
I dunno if you read these comments since you get a lot, but would you consider reviewing the DLC Annihilation line, and perhaps revisiting the main game after its overhaul patches?
hi Jay, I was offered some DLC to review but sadly the new content is only for PC and PS5. I don't have either. Currently got an XBOX and PS4.
I was a bit hesitant about this game when I the trailer and images first started coming out, but I'm glad to hear it's not half bad. Of course, it'll never top the greatest Terminator game, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.
Blood Dragon was the best Far Cry game. It truly sucks we never got a full real sequel to it.
Probably never will as the director left Ubisoft and the dlc for Far Cry 5 was terrible.
Ubisoft really doesn't care about making proper single player focused games now either.
Got get in on those sweet greed baloney and gambling.
@@Gruntvc Yeah, I remember when I met Michael Biehn last year and asked him about Blood Dragon and why there hasn't been a sequel, but in retrospect, I'm kind of glad it hasn't gotten a full-fledged sequel (aside from the Trials follow-up) since it allows the game to stand on its own.
I always saw Blood Dragon as the video game equivalent to something like Airplane.
Excellent review. I hope the fan made game, Tech-Com: 2029 won't get hit with a cease and desist. It looks very good!
Wow. Your game review skills are actually quite insane. I would totally be interested in watching more
Just played through this on the Series X. Runs in 60fps and I'm not sure about resolution but it looks above 1080p. I banged two women and saved everyone's life at the end.
Great review. Terminator Resistance looks great.
Idk man, a lot of my favorite Content Creators on UA-cam have given the game decent reviews & received it in a fairly positive way. Looks good to me & I'm a hardcore fan of the 1st two Terminator films (the only ones that matter or are good).
One thing this game does extremely well compared to the new movies is bring back the horror of the Terminator. The last thing you should want to do is get into a face-to-face fight with a T-800.
I didn't even know this was in the works! Thanks for reviewing it
So... I've got an opinion:
Between this, Amid Evil, Dusk, Bungie going indie to release their own version of Destiny 2, Night Dive Studios, THQ Nordic and the return of 3D Realms with Ion Fury and WRATH, I think the future of gaming will (mostly/at least in the west) belong to these AAA independent titles.
More like it's a resurgence of the "mid-tier" releases you used to see a lot of back then.
I've seen The Infiltrator scenes and it's great, the music, the sound of the plasma weaponry, I can feel the teror of the charactors
Played this on the PC version. Pretty good especially you get to shoot the firearms from the two movies. As for the skill upgrades, should pick the ‘Fast Learner’ in the Survival option as the first upgrade as you will gain experience more quickly and thus access to more skill upgrades in shorter time. The other thing to upgrade is the Toughness option as at level 5 you will self-heal and thus rely less on health packs. Crafting is a lesser priority as you can buy weapons later along with Stealth (skill).
Keep up the great work mate
Will you do an LP? Also a fan made game came out of the same type will you be doing a review?
You skipped Robocop vs Terminator.
He probably didn't play that
I always felt it was more of RoboCop game. You don't play as any of the characters from The Terminator series.
@@OliverHarper Nor in any of the Bethesda games yet you put those on here
@@OliverHarper It's not like the game will have you play as Arnold and kill an army of RoboCops
What about that third person ps2 terminator game that was fairly good tbf good review btw
This game has honestly turned into one of my most anticipated, even though it came outta no where, and I don’t give an ass rats that this game is no where near “game of the year” material.
Good review! Coming from another Terminator fan, and a musician, the Terminator theme was the first thing I learned how-to play by ear on a keyboard. To have multiple reviews exist on Resistance with props on the composed soundtrack, just makes me so happy to hear that. I just bought Resistance for PS4 and couldn't put it down! It has several functional elements that mesh very well together to make a solid single-player experience. Since the source material is very 80's & 90's, the film-grain effect on the lighting carries the graphics and the animation beyond it's inconsistencies. The crafting is overkill but Extreme difficulty paces the necessity for it rather evenly. The story and music compliment the level design that nails the cinematic architect of the source material. The graphics are decent on the PS4 Pro with the motion blur off and the framerate set to unlimited. It is INDEED quite a serviceable Terminator game.
Also if you shot the H/K down there is actually wreckage that stays on the ground and you can loot it as well! Looked amazing when I took one down.
Had no idea u did video games. Awesome, love ur content!
Recently the game received new DLC.
I was very impressed with its story, it’s attempts to flesh out Jacob Rivers as a character, and new information that expands the Terminator lore.
This game definitely fills the void for quality Terminator content and brings innovative ideas which have been sorely lacking in film.
It’s definitely on my to do list for my gameplay videos

I’m just doing what I’m passionate about
I put over 14 hours into the game (pc version) and still injoying it alot. I am taking it slow and not in any rush to finish it. I love the references/homages to T1 and T2, easily recognisable for any diehard Terminator fan. The voice acting is below par but the soundtracks and audio score is fantastic. Playability and storyline is good and graphics are ok. Loving it! :D
Seeing the fast food joint that sarah used to work for, won me instantly..
This should have been t3. Im glad the developers went full in on this. Congrats for beign so passionate
Thank you. IGN really screwed the pooch on the review and were completely wrong. Other reviews or opinions I've seen were from those that never finished the game and showed by making statements like no purple lasers in the game which is false. Glad you gave it a fair shake.
Yes, there are no more video arcades on the beach where I used to visit. Mortal Kombat may have been the last or next to last arcade in the galleria.
This is what the new movie should have been. Not some ol' woke garbage with the director insulting the fanbase.
PORK FLAPS You do know Dark Fate was co-written by James Cameron right?
@Stoneryoda 937 They gave us a version of the future war with Salvation but that movie sucked. All we wanted was a film that looked like the future war footage shot for both T1 and T2, not some Mad Max meets Transformers rip off crap that was Salvation.
MrDeadhead83 Tim miller had more power than james the sellout
alucard624 it’s not as in depth as Star Wars or movies with books behind them. They tried with salvation, but it seems you want more space ships and lasers.. Maybe you’re just a whiny/bitchy fan... 🤣😂
AA Dodge they had Reese and co. wandering around during broad daylight in Salvation which was the opposite of what we were told they did to avoid detection by the machines. In so many ways it was dumb like that and didn’t represent the future war scenarios we’d seen glimpses of or were told about. For that and numerous other reasons it wasn’t that great.
They patched the AI and difficulty so that it should be much harder to kill Terminators and resources will be more scarse. Im planning to replay the game so that i can see for myself and I've spend 25h on my first playthrough :)
Also 7:17 transition was perfect good job man :)
i started playing this game like... well EVERYONE says this is a bad game, so well, i suppose that im the only one sucker in the world who wants to play it, but hell! i know its not perfect, but its a great experience
Might check it out! Thanks Oliver!
THIS GAME IS FUCKING EPIC!!!!! THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DARK FATE!!!! MY GOD WHAT A GAME!!! Going to have nightmares for years, brilliant. Great rendition of T1, and T2. JUST EPIC.
I am extremely grateful for how faithful Teyon was to the first two movies and the fans.
Great review ,Just got this game...at first I was not impressed but once it gets going its superb fun....the only thing thats anoying for me on a ps4 is when you die the game seems to reload the level which takes some time....
P.s like the Black rain film music at the end....
Sleeper hit of the year. I actually don’t think the graphics are bad at all. Some of the environments actually look really nice. Lovely moody lighting that captures the essence of the first two films.
Hearing Future Flashback @2:00 made me VERY happy.
I’m really excited for this game. From the fan reviews it seems the devs made it for the fans and put a lot of heart into it. First it was going to be released in North America on Dec. 3rd then it was moved to the 10th and now January 7th. The anticipation is killing me. #stoked 🤘🏻
Hey great review, I'm also excited about this game, just waiting for the price to drop a bit. I have no problem that the gameplay is somewhat simple... It's actually all I need from a Terminator game.
Now I don't know if you missed it on purpose or not, but there was another Terminator game for the PS2 called Dawn of Fate. Wasn't based on any of the movies and while not amazing, it was a solid action game. They also managed to capture the style and atmosphere of the first 2 films, though added some techno music for the action sequences and a bit overly cartoonish character designs. But since you enjoy Resistance, I think you'd have your fun with that one as well.
I'm glad this team have come a long way since Rambo The Videogame and it seems they have given fans what they have been asking for, unlike the recent film.
Yes, it doesn't really do much new in terms of gameplay, the visuals look very dated, especially on console, and the npcs are laughably last gen. But it does recreate the terminator universe perfectly. They didn't just make a simple shooter but included basic rpg elements, which is fun.
I platinumed the game on ps4 and still play it. It's definitely worth picking up. Play on extreme, it's honestly not that difficult but makes the Stealth more tense. I put 24 hours into it.
Oh and there's some terrific lighting in this game which helps create atmosphere.
i actually watched the whole walkthrough 6 or more hours . this game hit the mark. A+
Nice in depth review, I wish you could play as a T800 that they hack or reprogram and then that should be the one that gets send back to protect John.
The music sounds amazing.
New Update is out btw which improves graphics and the AI, as well as makes the AI react differently depending on the difficulty.
All i want is a future war game with blue light, darkness, Franco Columbu-like infiltators with huge plasma guns, original Terminator soundtrack and a good mix of stealth and action. Like they did for Alien isolation, entirely in line with the movie
Great review! I would also mention that it doesn't have BS micro transactions or DLC. It's all in the game like the good old days 😊
The best soundtrack since T2. What a compliment. And it's well deserved. Kudos to the composer 👍
Great review. This is a Game for Terminator Fans! They make all they could with the small budget!
I’ll have to wait for it to go on sale but I’ll definitely buy it hopefully sooner rather than later
This looks pretty good tbh, I'll have to pick it up at some point, great review mate 👊
I'm confused? Your review is from late November and the release trailer you included showed a release date of December 10th. Why are retailers not showing a release date until January 7th, 2020. I'm also a bit surprised this is a 'full priced' game. It seems it would sell much better at $40.
Glad to see they released a free DLC of this, Terminator Resistance Infiltrator where the player controls a T-800 Terminator who must scavenge up guns, ammo & repair parts, find human resistance bases, exterminate the humans, collect information to the location of a TechCom bunker, infiltrate that, kill the human resistance fighter inside and assassinate the TechCom commander.

Sort of like the evil campaign of The Lord of the Rings Conquest game where you control the minions of Lord Sauron to recover the One Ring before it is destroyed in Mount Doom and run a rapacious campaign of destruction against the men, hobbits and elves to conquer all of Middle Earth.
IGN hated it but fans of the movies such as yourself and WAB have both said it's actually pretty fun

Great Review!
Just got today and i am looking forward to playing it
This game is more Terminator than the latest Terminator films.
I give it a try based on your review.👍🏼
Thank you for this review! I've been hoping for a decent Terminator FPS game since Future Shock/Skynet on the PC. Dawn of Fate for PS2/Xbox (Original) had great potential but the terrible camera shifts made it difficult to enjoy ( if only that whole game could have been in First person mode), but this is the game that myself and many Terminator fans have been waiting for. Thank you! With this and Star Wars Jedi:Fallen Order, we're hopefully returning to a decent gaming age. Now hoping for an Alien: Colonial Marines (proper/remake/remaster or whatever) , a great, new AVP, and a great Predator FPS. I know, that's probably too much to hope for.
I just bought redemption, looking forward to playing it. gonna get this also
I've too completed the game it was a fun ride... And of course the musical score gave me the chills..The best terminator game I've ever played..Forget the IGN haters.Only issue was the price..It does take 60$ for a 30$ game. But I wouldn't miss it for life..
