  • Wild horses Goliath and Red Lady reunite after being separated by a BLM roundup. After being apart for six months they see each other for the first time at Skydog Sanctuary and shortly afterwards have a final foal together. This is a call to action for people to get involved in this issue and help fight for these wild horses who are being endlessly rounded up and put in holding facilities in America. Please go to www.skydogranch.org / skydogsanctuary
    to find out more.

    Horses helped build the foundation of our nations. It is a tragedy that we never took the time to really honor their service. A statue or a nice poem does not do justice. They should be protected and honored as the noble animals they are.

      Exactly! Humans as a species and so ungrateful and never look back and appreciate what got them so far as a they are now. The world could survive without humans but couldn't survive without the very animals we disgrace and abuse.

      I mean that's all people like Andrew Jackson, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, etc. got. We treat animals way better than any other country on the planet. You ever see a police dog? If someone hurts that police dog it is treated the exact same way as if someone hurt a human officer. Because that dog IS an officer. The exact same goes for police horses. You have no idea what it's like in other parts of the world if you think the US is even remotely bad for animals. Hell, the national and state parks are larger than any others in the world and completely forbid hunting. Unlike at other countries, you ever go to Africa? Poaching and legal hunting endangered species EVERYWHERE. That'd be a felony in the US. These Horses ARE protected way more than you know, literally just look it up.

      @@WalrusWinking So your bar is say, China where they torture and beat dogs to death to make the meat taste better. Our country should look to more brutal treatment of animals in far away lands to justify shortcomings in our own nation? No, the bar should be raised higher.
      Factory farming should be abolished. Beef should be grown in labs. No animal should have to suffer just so a human can have a burger. If ranching disappeared, wolves, pumas, burros and wild horses would not have to be "managed". I always chuckle at that word, because who is managing the massive billions of humans on the planet? A greedy predator that has killed 70% of life on earth. And will continue until this planet is nothing more than a massive dust bowl.

    I hate how so many humans feel they have the right to prevent an animal from reproducing. An animals only legacy is it's offspring, which many people seem to forget. Once they are gone there is nothing left in the world to remember them apart from their children. These animals are something that needs to be protected. Animals are beings capable of sadness, depression and stress. To remove an entire herd of wild mustang from their habitat without relocating them to a suitable place should be a crime. They are an animal that deserves respect and protection. The Americas used to be home to dozens of large herbivores and grassy planes. It'd be a shame to think the mustangs would be wiped out for the sake of livestock production.

      @Antonia Sigafus - Actually, that's the profit monger's story. Mustangs are rounded up from our public lands so that wealthy cattle ranchers can graze their cattle on our public lands for free. They have paid off the government so they can do this... the lands that the horses are rounded up from are not then left alone, they are grazed by cattle which do much more damage than horses. Horses migrate and move, they do not stay long enough in one area to cause any damage, unlike cattle. Instead of believing the propaganda from those with money who have the money to spread false information, please do deeper research and learn the truth.

    What people fail to realize is that we all own these wild horses and we all should be demanding safety and humane protection towards them as well as our public lands. It is a shame that every stallion captured is gelded. There are some blood lines that should be preserved and protected. Many former pet horses of various breeds been abandoned out west when people can no longer provide for them and the ones that survive have bred into mustang herds creating horses that are less adapted for survival in the wild and weakening the herds' unique blood lines. When we come across a mature stallion in remarkable physical condition we should have an option to preserve this stallion as intact for organizations and tribes with the land and resources to manage a herd of wild mustangs. Mustangs should not be considered in the same category as unwanted dogs and cats that are routinely sterilized. The mustang is a national treasure.

      Supersmile330 Many genetic groups are descended from horses from several hundred years ago who were separated from humans by war, shipwrecks, or natural disasters. So I assume these are what your refer to as former pets? The pets of today that are let loose often die for lacking the traits necessary to insure their survival on the open range or mountain foothills or are are killed by wild stallions and protective mares as they remain outside of herds. Some of these wild groups are particularly impressive in their rugged traits, able to thrive on parched pasturage, hooves that stand up to barefoot lives on rugged terrains, bodies that develop thick undercoats allowing them to thrive in temps well below zero and yes, they should be preserved. They are not the hothouse flowers of many breeds of today. Some genetic family groups are already under protection, more should be. "To observe them and wax poetically" ? Well, I guess we do that too because even though we are down to earth practical farmers, horse owners, and trainers and also own several rescues we do indeed sit on our porch on occasion and observe them and wax poetically, as does every single horse owner I have ever met. It is not what drives us to protect the wild horses though as waxing poetically is something we just don't have much time to do as we work year round and have the responsibility of animals 24/7 on our farms and ranches. I am glad you asked though. Perhaps you should try and visit one of the Indian tribes out west or the Nations in Canada where herds of wild horses have fairly recently begun to thrive once again under protective laws. They will most likely leave you waxing poetically as would watching herds of buffalo that are once again reappearing as they are protected and encouraged to breed with genetically superior bulls (having the traits needed for best chance of survival). I will have to borrow your term, it fits so well! Thanks for enriching my language and sharing your thoughts.

      @xolitaire 5 років тому +32

      Supersmile330 they are rounded up so that cattle lifestock have more room. Its monetary gain, nothing else. Who cares if most of the caught mustangs die from stess, infections or deseases they never came in contact with in the wild. Wild horses existed for a long time, cattle ranchers with enough money are the new element.

    • @farmwife7944
      @farmwife7944 5 років тому +20

      Conservation groups that rescue these wild horses do much to raise awareness and needed cash to promote better management of our natural resources. The fact that they do not breed these horses says much about the fact that they are leaders in educating the public that herd management is not a backyard breeding program. Read back to the fact that we are farmers. We know about grazing rights on federal land, not some random private lands that horses invade, our lands that the BLM is supposed to wisely manage with out tax dollars. And again, yes, there are some types of vegetation as well as animal life that are endangered on these lands and need to be protected from overgrazing and despite bad press farmers and ranchers have done much in this area as stewards of the lands we use. We take this stewardship very seriously. (which brings me around to the ranchers who do not pay land fees and refuse to get off federal lands deemed under protection, i.e. the ranchers out west who seized federal parks and buildings to protest the feds demand for rent money and relocation of the cattle herds to protect wildlife, but that's another issue). Read my comments again. I suggest that there are stallions who need to be preserved intact. Their herds also demand protection which means selective culling. You do not understand land and herd management, it has nothing to do with sentimental value and everything to do with preserving a a unique genetic strain while protecting others under threat. Cattle herds are not under that protection but they do provide necessary funds from rental fees. We do the same for buffalo herds. Many are now used as private cattle herds utilized for processing as food, but other wild rugged bulls are left intact along with mature successful cows and allowed to breed, preserving their genetic contribution and also strengthening (health wise) the wild herds that are under BLM and environmental group protections for relocation. The superior bulls are helping to repopulate areas deemed safe for these herds, such as Alaska for instance but the herds are also managed such that if culling is necessary it is done but targeted bulls are left intact and returned to the herd or used to start new herds, smaller herds that can be appropriately managed. Yes, there are thousands of horses that can be rounded up and become pets, and neutered to discourage irresponsible breeding but the unique breeds that have developed in select herds need protection, just as we do for other forms of life under threat; the vegetation, turtles, wolves, wild buffalo, bald eagles, etc. Thanks for your interest which goes above and beyond what most folks with a professed interest in herd management display.

He said that they try to get all of the horse but they couldn't get them all. I was so look happy and sad at the same time that some horses got away and most of them got caught. That was last year. They then spread to Eurasia from America over the Beringia land bridge. Wild horses lived across North America until some time between 12,500 and 7600 years ago, when they became extinct there - which is linked to the arrival of humans from Eurasia to North America about 12,500 years ago...

      @@GentlemanBystander Humans are the most virulent, destructive, invasive species there is. Horses originated in North America 35-56 million years ago. These terrier-sized mammals were adapted to forest life. Over millions of years, they increased in size and diversified.
      Horses got larger in size and underwent other changes to their feet and teeth to adapt to changing environments. From five million to 24 million years ago, a number of horses occupied niches to which they had adapted, including grazing the spreading grasslands.
      It was about four million years ago that the genus of all modern horses arose. The modern horse, known as Equus, evolved from the horse Pliohippus, which arose around 5 million years ago and was extinct by two million years ago.
      Equus occupied North America for the entire Pleistocene epoch, from about 2.5 million years ago until their extinction. Scientists believe Equus crossed the Bering land bridge around the beginning of the epoch.
      Some made it as far as Africa to evolve into the zebras we know today. Others moved across Asia, the Middle East and northern Africa, evolving into the onagers and wild asses of today, both well suited to desert environments.
      Still others spread across Asia, the Middle East and Europe, evolving into the true horse, Equus caballus.
      North America remained home to Equus species for most of the next 2.5 million years until they died out. On the latest evidence, that was just 7600 years ago. The new timeline suggests an overlap with human habitation approaching 6000 years.
      They were REintroduced, by the Spanish Conquistadors, back to lands they belong. They lived there for millions of years & their ancestors were returned. So how can you claim they’re “an invasive species”?

      Yeah? Let's consider your logic - wild mustangs roam millions of acres and have done so for centuries. Enter the cattleman. Mustangs are removed from their homeland so cattle can graze. Horses are selective herbivores, meaning the browse as they eat. Cows are dedicated grazers. The methane produced by cattle farts has an impact on global warming due to their sheer numbers. So, please explain how removing a relatively small number of wild mustangs so that large numbers of cattle can graze has any basis in the idea that mustangs are overpopulated so the ecosystem can no longer sustain them.

    I have a mustang and love him. He was captured in a fire and still has hair that grows back white from where the fire burned him. He lives on 7 acres and loves his two beautiful mares. What they fail to mention in this video is that a lot of horses starve in the wild and sometimes have to be collected when fires burn all the food the horses have to eat. My horses are all nice fat and happy and I know he’s happy because he's one of the laziest horses I know and loves having his food handed to him. He will also do just about anything for a carrot which he had never had before. It was the funniest thing watching him eat it for the first time. The BLM collects horses but also releases horses quite often. They won't adopt a lot of horses out because they're going back out to be released. Trust me once a wild mustang, always a wild mustang. lol If I go more then a few days without touching him he reminds me of his wild with all kinds of attitude but if I love on him every day he walks up behind me and puts his head on my shoulder and pulls me into him. He also always gives me kisses but I think that's more for the carrots. Lol

I would say he's a Bashkir Curly.These horses have great endurance, strong legs that never go lame and are hypoallergenic for humans. They tolerate cold better than other breeds and are easy to train, very intelligent. Goliath should not have been castrated but instead used in a breeding program to strengthen the wild horses still in the wild and improve our own weeker horse breeds. Too many of the wild horses are fine boned and scrawny. The BLM don't recognize the contributions this horse could have made even to the Bashkir curly community who want to continue the best of this rare breed. I understand farmers have to have land for their cattle to graze but, there's plenty of it around or, at least there was until man started devastating the land, overworking it just like everything else. The ground, like everything else, needs rest too. I'm not surprised it's no longer "bearing fruit" like it use to. A BIG thanks to Skydog for not only giving these beautiful creatures back their freedom but, reuniting them once again. What a beautiful reunion.😭😭❤❤

    We get right nasty over dolphins and orcas being kept in captivity. But then I suppose if dolphins and orcas got in mans way of making money they would break up their families too as they have been, till folks took a stand.
    Thank you for yohr care of Mustangs.

    • @Automedon2
      @Automedon2 5 років тому +3

      We worry about orcas, yet all over the world there are tens of millions of horses being kept in tiny stalls, bits forced into their mouths and steel shoes nailed to their feet so humans can bounce their useless fat asses on their backs for recreation. Surprise, surprise, every one of the horses that people own were separated from their mothers at young ages, torn from their herds and sold back and forth. Horse ownership is mindless brutality even though the people who own them claim to love them, they are just beings that have been reduced to generational slavery.

      Ocean animals do not belong on land. That is just straight up inhuman to do and the worst humanity we could ever do to these ocean animals. All for our pleasures, makes me so ill. Do you know thanks to Sea world our Southern Resident American Orcas who live along the Washington coast are endangered? Man ruined these beautiful, so very important animals lives and destroyed their families and put them in line for extinction. All for greed.. I swear, I'm so disappointed and angry at what humans have become.
      Horses are the one animal in our existence who deserves to live out their lives running free in this huge country of ours. Away from man's hands.

    Thank you sky -dog. Why can’t people just leave them beautiful horses alone.there is so much land out there for the wild horses 🐴 an other live stock they are only looking after their family an what’s best for them same as what you or I would do to look after our love one . So please let them be with their family we have no right to separate them. Why don’t the government go after the the mistreatment ones an save them instead an give them a chance to live an love 💕 like these beautiful wide horses. Thank you 🙏 again Sky- Dog for saving these amazing an beautiful horses ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

    I've watched this 100s of times, but I keep coming back. I cry every time because I know what happened to Goliath n Red Lady happens still far toboften. We must do something to stop the cruel rounding up of these majestic creatures. They shouldn't have to get our permission to live out their lives wild, free n with their families. You will probably see many comments from me amongst so many others. That's because my heart swells in my chest every time I see this. Because every time I do, I pray I'll see an attached message that says they no longer do this. That the wild horses are once again safe to roam free.
