videos on emergency situations would be good to see. what do to when you see a bear, or threatening wild life, cleaning a cut on trail, how to stay warm in rainy conditions etc. have fun!
I don't want to be rude, but if you do not already know & fully understand the rules of bear safety, DO NOT GO BACKPACKING YET! A lot of backpacking videos avoid certain topics, because this is not a beginner activity, day hiking a developed path is. Before you spend a day or a night in the wild, as a car camper even, you must know your safety rules & techniques. Good news, lots of hiking UA-camrs have created such content. I think the bulk of the backpacking community already knows those things, as you learn most safety protocols when you take up day hiking or as you grow up. I also have a feeling REI has legal concerns about posting bear safety techniques other than how to use bear spray, since unfortunately, most other safety maneuvers are hit or miss. Prevention (store all your smelly stuff - food or other products with any scent - SECURELY) is a strong message in her videos for a reason. Good luck to those of you just getting started - you've got a really beautiful life of adventure ahead!
Watching this video after knowing that Nala has crossed the rainbow bridge is bittersweet. I really hope that Miranda soon finds a new hiking pal. In the meantime, I'm really enjoying seeing lil Nala bear hiking with her beloved human.
Because I’m a procrastinator when it comes to getting out of camp there are a couple of habits I stick to. Before I get out of the tent in the morning ( no matter how bad I have to pee) I pack up everything in the tent. Then I pack up the tent while I’m heating water for coffee. By the time I eat breakfast I’m 90% packed. It really helps me get out of camp quicker.
Great video. Being that I just started hiking last year, I’ve learned a lot from the REI channel and website. Please continue to provide more videos about backpacking, day hiking, and rock climbing/rappelling.
I have that exact same pillow, a pillow trick I read was to slip a t-shirt over the top of your air mattress, and put the pillow in there to keep it in place while you sleep, I haven't tried it yet but seems like a good tip.
Hey Miranda! I’d love to see you planning a trip from start to finish. Like planning the list of things you need, to purchasing the new gear, to planning the shuttle if needed, to seeking places to camp on a backpacking trail,to picking up passes, and just tips in general along the way, it’s all rather complicated! Lol
I love watching your videos . Their is so much information in them and oddly enough they are relaxing to watch. Thank You for the enjoyment & knowledge.
I only hike in trail runners, take calf compression socks for the evenings at camp and that really helps! Also, a tennis ball or smooth stick for rolling the bottoms of your feet! I really liked this video, do more please!
I really enjoyed this vid. I liked seeing the products and your comments on them from the use of those products. Thanks for taking us on this trip. The views were amazing.
Thanks for hiking with Nala . Will check out that Ruff Wear dog sleeping bag...though I’m sure my Catahoula dog will get up after I have fallen asleep and attempt getting in the bag with me. Knowing how you punctured the filter bag will help me to avoid the same mistake.
This brings back memories! My wife and I took the ferry to Stehekin in July of 2021. And spent two nights. I loved Rainbow Falls. I took a lot of photos.
Very cool!! Thanks Miranda and crew for showing us this very real, “in the wild” view of your backpacking trip!! Really liked to see your problem solving skills and tools! Cheers. More please!!
Loved the video! My wife and I use a Nemo Dagger 2P and LOVE it! I absolutely love the fact that it's not a tapered floor so you can't mess up the orientation of the rain fly. Also love ALL that headroom and huge vestibules. The ONLY gripe I have with it at all (compared to the Quarter Dome 2 we had before) is the air vents are on the vestibules so you have to unzip the door in order to open them, but the Quarter Dome made it so easy by having the vent at the top. It's a minor detail and overall it's an amazing tent.
... Awesome video,, love seeing the dogs that think it's only right that they get to wear a backpack too ...Beautiful location and overall scenery ,, good gear choices .. only thing I would have to add is evening fishing and an evening and/or morning swim ,, nothing more invigorating to get the day started .... on trail for the destinations activities ,, not chasing miles .... Agree , in the cooler times , dry sleep socks can make the night SO much better,, and if too cold ,, down booties over them ... Also on hard ground ,even with a good pad, putting your backpack under your knees , relieves lower back muscles for better body recoop.... Way overdue for an outing ,, but soon ....hopefully ..
Bathrooms with flush toilets on trail.....pure luxury! Just completed 18 mile Wildcat Hollow trail at Wayne National Forest in Ohio. Overgrown with briars, literally over my head in some places. My Flash 55 backpack held up like a champ thru all the nasty sticker bushes clawing at me all day (maybe that’s why it’s named “Wildcat Hollow”?😼). No tears or snags anywhere! Love that pack💕💕
Hi from Oz Miranda an Narla,I can only wish our trails had beautiful scenery as the States, from beautiful pines to snow, its amazing to watch. We also have beautiful but very different down under.Love watching you hike and your know how's.Happy trails.Buuuuuurp!
Years ago when I was backpacking through western Europe I was just outside Barcelona hiking in the foothills of Mount Tibidabo, I was at the end of this path and I came to a clearing, there was a very secluded lake and there were tall trees all , the end
The Nemo Disco is wonderful! I hate normal mummy bags because my legs always feel trapped but the disco made it so I slept so well and didn't feel claustrophobic in my bag.
You know, it would be cool to have a geologist travel with y’all (like me 😊) and explain the geologic history, you know, for science and fun 😊 we use a lot of your equipment to keep us safe and comfortable while we are mapping the wilderness.
This was a treat. Nala looks so much like my dog Charlie! We're still in total lock down here in Ontario so I'm itching to get out and have some fun. Thank you for the video.
I can't wait for autumn. NJ isn't too hot in summer but it's too hot for me. The autumns here are perfect hiking weather. That's my plan, get the bulk of my work done this summer and coast through fall and hike a bunch
Miranda, you’ve given me the confidence to go out at all. I’m an ADHD personality type, and I have very low confidence. Seeing someone silly and cheery like me just sort of fumbling through, not taking it too seriously, really comforts me. Thanks for all that you do!
I went to REI for maybe the second time ever, and asked where Miranda was….NO ONE there watches. I talked to no less than 7 employees LOL…. All said man I loved it, every employee was so knowledgeable and friendly !
This is my favorite type of video. Thank you. I would love to see you do the bear bag (you probably already did one, but I haven't gotten to it yet). I would also like to see one of your wettest hikes. Rain and hiking intrigue me.
For ticks on dogs, my vet recommended doing double protection because I spend so much time outside. So he's on brevecto and a seresto collar. While I still find ticks on him on occasion they're dead and come off easily.
I use a yoga mat outside the door of my tent. It keeps junk out, gives me a clean place to put on shoes, and is helpful because I crawl out of my tent because of my mobility issues.
Love your videos!! Keep up the good work. Just getting my 2 sons into backpacking and hiking and without a lot of my own experience, your videos are super handy. Thank you
Awesome video. Gear loadouts with total weight would be cool to see too. There’s SO many outstanding thru-hiking loadout videos but not nearly as many of weekend/few/several day backpacker ones.
Perhaps a video on dog training for the trail? Started taking my in-laws pup on the trail. Working on getting her to not pull show much. Also never thought of a dog first aid kit until I saw this video. Any tips and best practices would be appreciated!
Such a pretty dog. Me and my pitties have been hiking/camping for many many years and they are naturals at it. My current little girl must have some mountain goat in his lineage, because she can beast rock climbing like she was born on a cliff.
Loved it! Would really enjoy more...with the “real deal” stuff, (like the tick & filter, “too much up”) with different gear/food to test drive at camp. You crack me up!
For ticks, I use duct tape or any tape I have. If the tick is not yet attached to the dog or you, just use the sticky side to pull the tick off, fold the tape with the tick inside and since it can't escape, it dies. If the tick is already attached, then you have to use tweezers to remove it, but then just put it in a tape coffin. Pack it out, of course!
As a new hiker, I feel validated by the fact that Miranda, a much more experienced hiker/backpacker, also hates the uphill parts 😂
My favorite trails are downhill both ways. - Miranda
I feel like I'm getting stronger on the uphill parts. On the downhills, I feel like I'm beating my body up. Neverending knee damage.
@@hillwalk24 trekking poles really help on the downhill for me
You’ll know you’re broken when you start trail running.
Nobody likes uphill.
videos on emergency situations would be good to see. what do to when you see a bear, or threatening wild life, cleaning a cut on trail, how to stay warm in rainy conditions etc. have fun!
good questions :D im curious too as im gonna go for the first time soon.
Could probably do the other things too
Agreed

I loved this blog type. I would really love to see one for the day of. Like packing, parking, starting. Day 1 is always the most daunting to me.
We are doing something similar on our channel so feel free to check it out :)
Woooh! More please! Lots of jokes and laughing is the best, with sprinkles of yummy tips and tricks! Cheers!
For a short moment I read. Tips and ticks...
But I agree. More of this please.

Ticks are indeed the a-holes of the wild!

I’ve done this with my polar fleece jumper and I was perfect on a freezing night. So snuggly and the pillow didn’t slip once.

I felt so bad for Nala, but the way you dispatched that tick right on trail ❤️ You are a great dog mom.

There is no greater beauty or charm than what we can find in your video.....thanks for sharing!!!!!!!!
Miranda in the wild videos bring me life!! ♥️ much love to Nala ♥️
I just fell in love with your sweet dog.
I love seeing you doing backpack video’s. I appreciate you telling all about the equipment!
I love everything about Miranda! She needs her own UA-cam channel! ❤️
She does have one! Called miranda in the wild you should definitely check it out!

Nala is such a good dog.
Agreed. I wish my outdoorsy cat was half as well behaved!

From an opera singing backpacker, I loved the joke about the acoustics in the bathroom haha! Also WOW campsite restrooms is a LUXURY!

Love that you bought Oofos! They are like little clouds on your feet! Well worth the expense.
GREAT video! Thanks for taking us along for the hike!
Thanks for brightening my day with your backpacking journey. Half expecting cocktail hour on the trail! 😉
Dear REI, Miranda deserves a raise- make it rain 🌧
Yes!! She deserves it!!

Great Sharing! Lot of love and respect from a solo mountain hiker from Chitral Pakistan.
Cool!
As you talk your little one also expressed so many emotions. It is so interesting
Good morning we're all alone "what are you doing??" Lol great channel and funny.
Great video! My third and fourth weekend backpacking trips are this weekend and next weekend; super excited! Videos like these are so helpful!
I'm stoked to hear that, Kat! Have amazing weekend trips! - Miranda

Nala is adorable! ❤️ 🏔 🥾
Found this video and was amazed at the difference in the gear between this video and now. Such a big difference, same enthusiasm though.
Love the adventure videos, keep em coming! Also, Nala is best girl
that is the nicest outhouse ever....
I went to REI for maybe the second time ever, and asked where Miranda was….NO ONE there watches. I talked to no less than 7 employees LOL…. All said man I loved it, every employee was so knowledgeable and friendly !
Omg love the use for the stasher bag! Never thought of using it to warm stuff up in while camping!
Omg same!! It’s genius
Videos like this make me wish I lived on the west coast. So scenic!!

Love and miss Nala ♥️

I love that pillow!
I was watching something and this ad came on and I sat through the whole thing
I use a yoga mat outside the door of my tent. It keeps junk out, gives me a clean place to put on shoes, and is helpful because I crawl out of my tent because of my mobility issues.
I believe this is a successful series by the fact that everyone is crazy in love to go backpacking with Miranda.
I have never seen anyone being so happy for their water boiling. I love your personality.
As a backpacker, I laughed when she showed the stuff sack full of stuff sacks in the tent
Love your videos!! Keep up the good work. Just getting my 2 sons into backpacking and hiking and without a lot of my own experience, your videos are super handy. Thank you
That's awesome! Happy hiking to all of you. -Miranda
Another fun video. Yay! Thanks.
I love your video
I enjoy any videos that you make! Definitely love the backpacking ones since it helps me know what trails I want to hike, when I can.
Hiking with your best furry baby is the best! I hike with Gus everywhere.
NALA IS SO DAMN CUTE! More Nala pls. Also Love Miranda of course.
Awesome video. Gear loadouts with total weight would be cool to see too. There’s SO many outstanding thru-hiking loadout videos but not nearly as many of weekend/few/several day backpacker ones.

I kinda wish REI was in the UK too. They're an outdoors retailer, I get that, but their channel is awesome, especially Miranda obviously. 🤪
The backpack looks like my Flash 55. I love that pack. Maybe that one is a little smaller than 55 liter.
That burp attacked you outta no where in the beginning 😂 also "doglette" 💀
Thanks for bringing us on the hike, great time. I marked the hike and will going, looks like a great weekend outing.
I liked it! Very nice to see a little of how the day goes, and how you plan the routine .
We hope you were able to get some inspiration!
I have the same sleeping bag and pillow. I love it!! I also just got the new sea to summit tent!! Game changer!! Hang out mode is awesome!
Your video quality is SUPER good! I mean both the visual quality AND the content!
Yay, thank you! - Miranda

+10 for the saxophone music and slow mo intro to the bathroom
Still haven't made it to Stehekin. For Nala, a bandana around her neck that was permethrin treated could help with the tick situation.
Good pointers for accurate sleeping bag temp ratings compared to what you recommend using them in! Thanks :)
A silicone splash guard for your Nalgene would be great. Mine is pink with a butterfly.
I LOVE north cascades!! One of my favs!
Yes!! More please!!!
Morning lodz its very beautiful place i love this kind of nature be carefull
Please do a gear I use video!!! I want that leash and am super curious about the pack and a few other pieces of gear that you’re using.
You got it! I'll see what I can do :) - Miranda
@@rei sweet😎🤙🏽
This video was great!! I love hiking with my dog and need to do a backpacking trip with her, too! Thanks for sharing the amazing views❤️
That hands free leash does look really nice! I’ve been tying my dog’s leash to my backpack hip belt.
You could also boil the water to purify it… but I’m sure you knew that😃
What a beautiful hike! What kind of backpack are you using?
It's the REI Flash 55! www.rei.com/product/148671/rei-co-op-flash-55-pack-womens - Miranda
