  • Almost three decades after his death, Nnamdi Azikwe remains one of Nigeria’s most loved and widely respected leaders. As Nigeria’s first and only indigenous Governor-General following independence in 1960, and later, the first president at the beginning of the First Republic, much of what we know about him has been centered around politics. In this NZUKO exclusive interview, we bring you to Onuiyi Haven, the Azikiwe family’s residence located in Nsukka, Enugu State, where we sit down with Professor Uche Azikiwe - a beloved Nigerian scholar and the widow of the great Zik of Africa to learn more about his legacy and personal life. Enjoy the interview with us!

I schooled at UNN. Zik flats was only 75% in use as at early 2000s when I was there. Now it's completely abandoned. Can you ask her why the family can't put aside petty squabbles to lease out the place and let a developer do justice to that piece of prime property right opposite the University gates?

Ziks flats is university of Nigeria Nsukka property. He gave it to them. It's not Zik family property. Same for the Anglican Church St John's was a gift to the community

Honestly speaking Dr Nnamdi Azik iwe is very intelligent and educated man, but he lacks forsite, if not we would have been in this mess today, even the so called one Nigeria government doesn't want to recognize him the way their recognizing sir Awolowo and sir Armadu Bello and their families, this is very very sad indeed.

Zik is not different from the chains of controversial black colonizers. He retired from politics in 1973 but He was the NPP presidential candidate in 1979/83.

Uche was his second wife. He married her in 1973 at the age of 69. The First wife was Flora Azikiwe who had four children born between 1940 and 1950. She also studied at Howard University in the 1950s.You can see the difference between Flora and Uche Azikiwe. One was the First Lady of Nigeria and second wife was Uche Azikiwe a PhD holder and mother of two boys.

What she meant here is more like "he started to practice Pan Africanism" at that time! Not that he began the concept of Pan Africanism 🙏

What’s wrong with that? You better respect yourself. What a demonic type of mind do you possess? Do you see a 27 lady who married to take care of a retired 70 year old young man as evil? Did you know they married almost 3 decades? Are you really alright ?

Oga Azik, the Nigeria you left is no longer working. Your kinsmen are surfing for the sake of your one Nigeria. If you had let the North and West go at that time, your kinsmen could have been in a better position today. We all will meet on the judgment day so can explain to us why you do what you did.
