Great video, it's wonderful to see anyone being so open and honest, thank you. I used to have similar issues and struggled for a long time. I read a book by Anneli Rufus, Party of One: The Loners' Manifesto, which I found incredibly helpful. I don't know if it was just that I was ready, or even if it applies in your situation, but it really set me free from my social anxiety disorder. Mostly because it made me feel that I was not beholding to anyone else. Do what makes you happy. Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday! You've earned a new subscriber (me). I have been quite a hermit at times. I discovered whenever I'm not in a relationship or persuing women that I make some really bad decisions. I'm married now (wouldn't have imagined that at 25) and my wife, like Dan, assumes certain jobs are "not theirs" but, hey, that's life.
Happy birthday! Glad you're getting better! :) To get out of the flat, I recommend going on a walk down the Thames (seeing as you're in London) Also, try to answer comments, I think it could help with the interactions - makes it an actual conversation :)
my mum would never leave the house, but she started to by taking small steps, she would set a day, and however she was feeling, good or bad, that was her day to do something. we would plan what we would do and for a while we would just go to a new shop once a week, and she would buy something. shed have to interact with the people in the shop, which caused great anxiety, but gradually she could go out more and more. i have seen a massive improvement just from her talking to new people. :)
No apologies necessary for the "low energy" feel to the vlog. Everything you said came across as genuine and heartfelt. I think that pushing yourself to do the UA-cam Space thing is a great idea. I can only imagine how daunting that must feel, so I wish you the best of luck. I think we all do.
I understand you on the perfection thing. Just think that everyone makes mistakes. I find it imposible to do anything. It takes me hours to start anything and even longer to get it to where i think it is finished. I bin a lot of things i try to do. We all love u so trust that we will enjoy anything you do.
Good to final hear from you again Wot. I'm sure I speak for all your fans when I say, if you want to chat, let us know. We can do chat sessions, emails, perhaps a live Google hangout on Google Plus? Take things a step at a time, and don't get discouraged. Regarding fitness, might I suggest Zombies, Run? Neat little mobile app for Android and iOS. Also, I would have laughed so hard if when you mentioned the trash duties, Dan just yelling in the background, IT IS YOUR JOB! XD
Using the fact that I have an early comment to hopefully get your attention, Wot. I have a lot of the same issues you do, and I just want you to know how reassuring it is knowing that I'm not the only one. These video's help me, and I'm sure others, an awful lot. Thanks.
I hear you on that! I love Mtn Dew, but it's so awful for your body. But in moderation anything can slide, and that's something to remember for all things life, especially overcoming something debilitating like depression. PS. It's really awesome that you actually took the time to reply to all these comments. You have just shot up the charts of "Coolest UA-camrs I Know" because of it!
I'm gonna go with statistics, but it's nice not to feel alone. About so many subjects. Thanks for you honesty and stories and puppets (I'm into puppetry myself. I'm working on a concept. Id love your thoughts when I flush out the idea more)
there was a wonderful poem/vid I saw on this yes. for the most part my problems have not been other people. (despite being a nerd and autistic I've never been bullied really) so for me it's not one where time will help I need to make things better, but i appreciate that you have faith in me to get better. thanks
Wot, please do NOT think that you haven't achieved much. You have acomplished so much with Dan here on youtube. You two have worked your asses off to get you were you are on here, and you deserve every last comment, like, subscription, and penny that you recieve from us fans. Here's to a happy birthday.
Great to hear how well you've being dealing with your depression and health recently Wot, even if certain things are little steps, it's all in the right direction! :) It takes a very strong person to talk about things as openly as you do and the fact you're wanting to change certain aspects of your life and are doing so proves that. The little challenges you are setting or getting people to set is a great idea! Keep going Wot, you're a top guy :)
happy birthday wot :) my mum has bad depression, and i dont think people understand how it makes you feel unless you have seen it first hand or had it yourself. i think that people under estimate how it makes you feel and assume your looking for attention, when you cant help how you feel. you shouldnt be ashamed of how you feel, sometimes its better to let it out :) x
I always try to watch these videos, they aren't something you'd necessarily come on UA-cam to watch (That isn't meant to sad bad, apologize if it does) but I always enjoy them (Is enjoy the right word, respect?). I struggle with interaction and often feel a bit like a Sentient Robot from Mars I think that the challenge that you set yourself of going out and meeting other UA-camrs (strangers :O, kinda) is a brilliant one and making new friends is the best way to get a social life
You are most definately welcome :) also, i know how hard it is to socialize, me being on the spectrum aswell. But i find that speaking to atleast one person, no mateer how long the conversation is, can help. You can even try on the train.
well august is packed already. we are at both vidcon in america and summer in the city in london. if i have a spare second I'd love to return to the Edinburgh fringe festival (the largest comady festival in the world and last year was the first time I've missed it since I was 16) but i may do something similar at other conventions.
Getting out there is definitely a good idea. After about 10 years of speaking to virtually no one, trying to socialise again a few years back made me feel very uncomfortable. The rest of the group didn't notice though and I was "a good laugh" "quite a character" etc. accourding to them. I know everyone is different but I think, in general, it's too easy to project your own insecurities and make them real when really everything is fine. You've just got to get past the first stage and then it's ok
i haven't but I'm pretty good at talking and being open to people. it's the change yourself that's tricky and I'm not sure therapy would help me that much. but I'm glad it worked for you.
Hi, Wot. If you do ever feel unhappy, just remembered what you have achieved in your life. You, like you say, are doing well as a business, and it's clearly popular, so you have achieved more than you think. As you said, you enjoy working on the channel, which is more than can be said for some people who just sit in an office complaining, but never do anything about it. You clearly seem to be capable of getting motivation, even if it's just simple things like emptying the rubbish or doing...
Keep strong wot. We don't mind how often you post videos, you post them when you want cause we want you to be happy. Yours and dans videos make us happy. Happy Birthday mate :)
I'm a depressive too, and I'm so impressed with how you've managed to improve your quality of life. I want you to know that I'm rooting for you. - @jawakitten
I hear that soda, especially diet, is a depressant... so cutting back on it will definitely help with your depression. Exercise also helps combat depression. I can't really speak on social lives... consider I don't have one... but I think the key is to find others that fit your personality. Depending on where you live, that could be tough, but I think you'll be fine living in London and all. And that Reddit idea sounds great. It'd give me an excuse to finally start using Reddit.
I think this is very true and making a day the day I do things sounds like a good idea. the only reason I made this was as I said it had to be done on my birthday. so that's a good idea I may take thanks
Hi, Wot! We've spoken before a little bit. I'm proud of your progress and will be sitting here on the sidelines cheering. The fact that you made this video, accomplished goals, and are reaching out is a big improvement. I wish you all the best and look forward to seeing the creator space vlog. Your dad died right around the same time a friend(and childhood crush) of mine committed suicide. Death is something you can never truly "get over". But eventually, it won't hurt as much. @writersblock242
i may do a few of the london conventions this year ad we are at both Vid con and summer in the city so me and dan are probably at our max for summer conventions this year. but i would love to do San diego comic con one year...maybe even next year
Hi wot. Umm its really suprising to me that you have very similar problems to like social problems and the area where it can be difficult just to get up. But I'm glad I can find someone like me and have a feeling like I'm not alone so thank you. Also I think you should go talk to a random stranger nothing big weather etc but it can build confindence and help in the long run
Wot, I you're quite inspirational, lots of people say they're going to change things, and very few actually do it, what you have are solid results, and they're brilliant. You do have the motivation to do this. As for social aspects, you enjoy writing sketches, so why not try doing more of that and seeing if you can involve other youtubers, you guys are already connected to yogcast through martin, and the other day you mentioned emmablackery, who does that sort of thing, why not try emailing her?
thanks for the kind words. we do have plans to start collaborating on the irl soon (well as soon as I can find people to join us). reaching out with a blind email may make a good challenge later(and a good vid as i will freak out).
some exercise, you've shown, that in managing to do those things that you can motivate yourself, and a way to think about things if you can't motivate yourself to do them, is to think of the benefits it could bring, long or short term. Also, in terms of goals, i believe it was mentioned in the first IRL plays... that you hoped it would become a series, so maybe you could start by working on that, maybe begin slowly at first, maybe one a month, and slowly get into it. That way you're helping...
yep. i know it's all in my head. but transferring that in to action is something else ;) . it's like the seen in the dogo of the matrix. I've got to not just know it's in my head but live that as my mind makes it real. there is no spoon
I also wanted to add that though you may not enjoy them or perhaps Dan doesn't enjoy them (or perhaps you both enjoy them I don't know), but you should really be in more Nerd³ videos. The DBZ and Snoopy Dogfight videos are two of my favorite videos because you and Dan make such a great competitive duo.
your business, as well as being able to settle down and play some good old fashioned board (or card) games :) Also, if you ever feel you have no social life, maybe just look through you're followers on twitter and just send a random message to one of them just saying hi, and who knows? Maybe you could make some friends over social networks that you could meet in real life :) Finally happy birthday. You're an awesome youtuber and i get excited whenever you upload a video. Maybe ...
Nice vid Wot. Please though, as someone with depression., who was unmedicated for so long then medicated, I urge you to see a doc and get some medication. It doesn't change you or turn you into a zombie, it just levels you out a lot and has been wonderful for me
people keep telling me that better body gives a better mind but I've yet to feel it all my mind wants is more coke;) I am quite happy not being the life or soul of the party but mostly I achieve this by not going to party's. I actually have no problem with this (I find party's painful) it's just I don't meet new people which is limiting. thanks for the input though
well I have been taking a break but in general making videos is good for me just so long as I don't sucome to the stress it creates. I glad you enjoy them though
Hi yes I remember you made that lovely vid for me. I'm sorry about your friend that can't have been easy. I hope your ok. I think I'd struggle more with the loss of a crush but I'm strange that way or maybe the grass is always sadder on the other side.
Wot I think it's a great idea for you to get out and do something like going to the UA-cam creator studio and making a blog, I also suffer from depression and feel that doing things and setting myself social goals helps me cope with my depression
i'll look into google pluss, I'm not very familiar with it but sounds like a good idea.(not good at socialising means i have little interaction on social sites). and yes that would be funny but also why i record mostly when dans asleep ;)

thanks for the kind words. I'll try to live up to them.
Happy birthday! Glad you're getting better! :)
To get out of the flat, I recommend going on a walk down the Thames (seeing as you're in London)

That should be a t-shirt message (or in your case perhaps a tattoo on the chest...)!
Happy Birthday, Wot!

Also the youtube space thing would be a great experience. I hope once me and my friends channel is started we manage to have that chance to.
I struggle with acts without goals, like walking for the sake of it but I will try and respond to comments as best I can
I'm glad to share tips. as for random people I want to work up to that yes but right now, without a plan that feels impossible.
Happy Birthday Wot :D. Keep up the amazing work and we are all here for you.

it is a very misunderstood condition, that's part of why i feel it's so important to document my journey when I can

That would be amazing Wot, but I live in Australia. Maybe one day our paths will cross.
People don't realize how crippling depression can be. Good for you for working on it. Happy birthday.
well done. I hope to follow in your footsteps
And don't worry Wot, we all love you!
i haven't but I'm pretty good at talking and being open to people. it's the change yourself that's tricky and I'm not sure therapy would help me that much. but I'm glad it worked for you.

I also need to add that this was a very honest and very brave video.
Keep strong wot. We don't mind how often you post videos, you post them when you want cause we want you to be happy. Yours and dans videos make us happy. Happy Birthday mate :)
I suffered from depression and had to re-learn how to be social. It's not easy, but I conquered my depression.
living with dan is a constant challenge to move forward. it's fustraiting but as you say good for me.
being selective did well for me, then i stopped aquireing people and lost a few then chose a social job. i hope it works well for you and thanks
You're brilliant Wot.
Agreed. It was new and quite raw really, but showed ALOT of potential. I laughed and that's what counts isn't it.
I'm a depressive too, and I'm so impressed with how you've managed to improve your quality of life. I want you to know that I'm rooting for you.
- @jawakitten
i'll do my best. glad you enjoy them

Going to the UA-cam space is a great idea

Stay confident Wot you've gotta take life by the bollocks
Happy birthday Wot! :)
Good to see your making videos again wot :)
Stay strong Wot!
as said I'm making some steps myself. though i did make a deal with Dan that if I have a major relapse I'll see a doctor
Happy birthday Wot!
no problem. glad to help
people keep telling me that better body gives a better mind but I've yet to feel it all my mind wants is more coke;) I am quite happy not being the life or soul of the party but mostly I achieve this by not going to party's. thanks, and good luck with your own deprestion
i love this analogy, (I'm sorry if i steal it and forget to give credit I'll try) and thanks.
I love how you can see a portal turret :)
Wot I think it's a great idea for you to get out and do something like going to the UA-cam creator studio and making a blog, I also suffer from depression and feel that doing things and setting myself social goals helps me cope with my depression
happy birthday

happy birthday wot
good luck Wot
Happy birthday you old bugger
thanks
Wot, my dream is to meet you more than 30 fps. You are such an amazing person. I have never found someone who is so similar to me.
i'll look into google pluss, I'm not very familiar with it but sounds like a good idea.(not good at socialising means i have little interaction on social sites). and yes that would be funny but also why i record mostly when dans asleep ;)
I just noticed the portal turret!

WE LOVE YOU WOT!!!
*rips off shirt*
Thanks m8 :) my 'friends' do seem to be slowly pushing my out of our group :(
"The Monotonous Diet Cook Book." You should write it Wot. (it'd only take 5 mins)
:p
I'll get on that then.
You could restart Medicine for the dangerously sane? I certainly enjoyed those videos, and i'm sure i'm not alone.
- @Oli_jukebox
one outside our flat
congrats
thanks, though i honestly don't know how to live any other way.
